This channel is focused on Bones, Hormones, and Healthspan to help midlife women and beyond aim for optimal, not average, and reignite their spark!
The videos on this channel will be focused around helping women navigate healthspan and longevity through the lens of osteoporosis, perimenopause, and menopause. When it comes to osteoporosis and menopause providers and educators often get tunnel vision and your symptoms might get better, but if you don't keep longevity in mind, symptom improvement may come at the expense of heart and brain health.

My hands are on my ears and I’m singing
Exactly…hands on my ears and almost singing. I am listening and still searching for the ultimate Swiss water process dark roast DECAF whole bean. I can’t see myself giving up coffee.
I agree Llalalalalalala
@@cherlgolja5402 Second verse, same as the first!
haha thank you for sharing!
@@debraduffy7787What's the point of decaf...lots of bad chemicals in there. I limit myself to 2 black cups of coffee a day. That's it. Not giving it up.
I live in Panama, a place with the best coffee that my family grows and processes. I may think about reducing but I will never give it up.
Thank you for sharing!
I am a french press girl. Grind my own beans. Not loyal to a brand of coffee, just whole beans dark roast fair trade I only consume one cup a day.
Thanks for sharing this!
I am a 58 year old man .I have been drinking Green tea for over 20 years but I still
got Osteoporosis

I did a deep dive for organic coffee beans that are tested for mold & mycotoxins, also fair traded, and high polyphenols for health. Also, the coffee had to taste full-bodied, not like hot water! Many are expensive with NO testing results available.
I found what I think is the best! It’s ‘Cardiology’ coffee. Made specifically for a group of cardiologists in Scottsdale AZ because they see many heart health benefits from good quality coffee consumption. The dark roast is amazing! Delicious! They also have a medium roast. I think they have it ground already, too. It’s available on Amazon or can be ordered directly from their website.
I know many pay a lot for Purity coffee. I tried it and found it had no taste, just my opinion.
Is that the name of the coffee? If not, what is the name?
Thank you so much for sharing this!
So Purity coffee is the actual brand. Found it on Amazon.
Wow-I'm an ELDERLY woman at 68? Go figure. I'm down to one big cup of Lavazza espresso (maybe two) a day and that's as far as I can go, osteoporosis or not.
Thank you for sharing this!
Yep...2 black cups a day & done.
I always laugh with my husband, we’re 70 and 67, when people say “elderly “. I’m thinking we have a good 10-20 years before we qualify 😂
@@janedough6575 Yep! Not until 80, at least!
@@janedough6575 When I worked at the VA, you weren't considered elderly until you hit 80.
I drink green decaffeinated tea with lemon and stevia. I can't live without it all day long!!!!!
I wondered if you've had gunpowder green tea?

Timely video. And issue I needed information on. Thank You. My mid day tea with 30mg of caffeine NOT a problem in my view
Throughout my working life, I have had 3-4 8 oz cups of coffee per day. I switched to tea or Pepsi in the evenings. I did have a fracture, but even 5 years later my femoral neck is at -2.5. To my mind, my Dexa score should have been worse if caffeine was a problem.
I drink 1 mug daily, Caribou coffee Obsidian, a dark roast. Yum!
Always looking for a good, dark roast. Everything in moderation. Cannot give up my coffee.
Thanks for sharing!
I love coffee! However, I cut back from 40gr/day to 20 when I researched it about 3 yrs ago. At that time I was dx'd with Osteoporosis (T score -3.4). I've improved my T score to -1.2 as of last Dec. I only drink organic coffee beans to avoid pesticide residues. Coffee is the most heavily pesticide laden crop in the world. I grind them by hand with a manual burr grinder just before brewing. I use a pour over with a non-bleached paper filter to reduce cafestol. I add vanilla whey protein and glycine for bone health and flavoring.
My favorite beans are med-dark roasted organic beans from South America.
BTW, I admit to a serious case of confirmation bias when it comes to evaluating the health benefits/risks of coffee consumption. ;)
Thank you for sharing all of this!
I drink one cup in the morning. I make it with Organic Ethiopian coffee. If I need a "pick-me-up" in the afternoon, I drink one cup of organic green tea, but this is not daily.
Thanks for sharing!
My favorite is blonde roast from Coffee on the Porch in Camden, Maine. Plus I love Dan’s photos on Facebook.
Thanks for sharing!
I buy my coffee by the 10lb bag from the Green Coffee Co. here in Canada which lasts me well over a year. I buy organic green beans, roast my own and hand grind. It's fantastic and can't imagine going without. I add powdered bone broth to my first brew of the day which ups my protein and collagen intake a bit.
So continue putting cream in my coffee...got it! 😀
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the post! Maybe caffine is something I need to do some experimentation with. I drink coffee occasionally, but I'm a big ice tea drinker. Tannins are said to be an astringent, so if anyone runs across information on tannins or other properties, that effect bone, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Not giving up my coffee!!
Remember...we were all told how dangerous an egg yolk is...NOT!!

I tend to drink decaf most of the time when at home. If I go out, I seldom get decaf because it tastes awful at most restaurants. There are a couple of exceptions here in Milwaukee where I live. Typically, these serve coffees I also make at home, which are locally roasted. My preferences are decafs from Collectivo, Valentine and Stone Creek Coffee. There are a few other roasters in Milwaukee but I haven’t tried them. Usually, I get beans and grind them myself before making a pot. I also have a Keurig for making single cups if I won’t be around to drink more than 1 cup. For K-cups I use several brands , mostly purchased online because finding a strong, dark roast decaf in the local supermarket is practically impossible.
Basically, I drink coffee for the flavor, not the caffeine. I get that in energy drinks (sugar free of course) so I don’t need it in my coffee.
Thank you for sharing this!
Many sodas have caffeine, surprised they weren't mentioned. Did subjects in the studies include consumption of caffeinated soft drinks, energy drinks, even bottled waters, widely used? I drink a 16oz mug of coffee in the morning that's it, very rarely will have coffee or any caffeine at night.
The best coffee I've ever had is IKEA's "PATAR" coffee, expensive and a bit hard to find except in their stores (over an hour away from my area). I would spend the money if it were local. My usual coffee is Folgers "Black Silk". 7-11 ground coffe not too bad either and affordable. Some stores sell bags of their ground coffee.

the study 300 mg caffeine is “a lot of coffee”..-(at 80-100 mg caffeine in 8 oz)..3 cups? And, seriously, what coffee mug actually holds JUST 8 oz?? I’m sure people get much more than they think!😬
I started 3 years ago mixing same coffee-1 lbs decaf with1lb regular-this has helped me cut my caffeine in the 2-3 cups I get a day.
After AM, I’m a decaf green tea drinker… no caffeine past noon. My sleep has become so important. And I’m up at 5am to walk.
Thanks for this video… I guess it is/ isn’t harmful 🤷♀️

Fair trade organic, caffeinated and decaf. One cup (10 oz) in the morning then I do caf/decaf mix.

Seattle's Best Organic Coffee, using a non bleached filter, pour over method, two cups in the morning and not at the same time as calcium. I do have organic kombucha at lunch for gut health. Recently had a DEXA and for the first time the technician asked a series of 20 questions which included: "how much coffee do you drink?" I asked if they were comparing the information with others and DEXA results for a study and she said no. Currently, trying to do 1/2 decaf. with 1/2 caffeine. Concerned about loosing the benefits of caffeine such as cognitive function as I get older.

I live in the UK and drink Kenco Rich instant coffee. I tend to alternate it with Darjeeling tea. I drink both black, no milk. A little sugar (demerara) in the coffee.

Vermont organic brand mix half and half decaf. Did not drink coffee for 30+ years. Just started to drink a few years before osteoporosis diagnosis at age 61.

I drink organic cold brew concentrate which means you soak the grounds for 12 hours and run it through a thick filter which makes a concentrate kept in the fridge and add hot water to it as needed. Supposed to help reduce acidity. Same amount of caffeine and tastes delicious.

Usually a big mug of organic dark roast, French press with a lot of half and half. Occasionally I’ll have another but later in the day and maybe 8 oz. I couldn’t stop this…

Folgers Decaf 1 cup in the morning, and 1 cup a flavored type coffee after lunch. I can't got any further. I already switched from regular Folgers to decaf. I travel with the individual packs of Folgers decaf to make sure I have it on hand. I will just do a few more heel drops but the coffee stays. I only get into tea with honey if I have a cold which is hardly ever.

Either way I'm going to enjoy this coffee.

Not a brand snob really. It’s more flavor. Love hazelnut….Seattles Best is quite tasty. Happy to know I can relax and enjoy it rather than feeling like my bones are being gnawed away with each sip.

@@Dr_DougLucas thanks. but that is just too expensive. I am not rich
What about JUST caffeine (as in caffeine tablets) without coffee or tea? Coffee upsets my stomach (possibly due to all the crap I put in it to make it palatable) and I’m not fond of the taste of caffeinated teas. I do have osteoporosis so would love to know if I’m shooting myself in the foot taking 100-200 mg (half to a full tablet) of caffeine a day (to help wake up and focus my mind before getting out of bed in the morning). Any research available?

My favorite coffee is from Brain Bean! Organic high in CGA’s

I only drink Bulletproof coffee brand because it is tested for toxins. I’m highly sensitive to mycotoxins from mold and here in the US coffee is not routinely tested for mold toxins. We switched to another brand that was a gift and I had horrible trigeminal neuralgia at the temple for about a month before I realized what was going on. When I switched back to Bulletproof brand my symptoms slowly went away.
