Thank you! I am 61, very healthy and active but was just diagnosed with osteoporosis- not taking meds but, like you, focusing on my exercises and eating enough calcium and protein! Appreciate your videos and clear explanations!
Congratulations on your good results on your more recent scan! And thank you for the detailed information about the strategies you have employed between your first and second scans. If you don't mind sharing this information, I am interested in why you avoid milk. Is it just personal preference based on how you personally digest it? Or do you have concerns that it is not the best source of calcium because of absorption issues?
It just me, my body does not digest milk well, I do okay with yoghurt, and cheese though! Dairy can be inflammatory for some people. I think it is for me, so I am mindful of how my body is feeling and cut back on dairy and other things if I am having more joint pain.
Great video! Thank you! The dexa scan is recently got has t score for left. I don’t understand why right side is not measured. I have not been able to get an answer from my doctor
Thank you for sharing your experience and results. This is super helpful, as understanding a Dexa scan can be a challenge. I'm happy for you that your osteopenia is stable. Should a Dexa scan be performed yearly? Or does our body take longer than 1 year to regenerate more bone? ( with proper exercise & nutrition)

Thank you, this was really helpful. Can I ask you to link or reference where you saw that the effects of hormone replacement therapy for bone health tends to plateau out at about 4 years?
To clarify, the INCREASE in BMD for post menopausal women from hormone therapy peaks at 3-4 years but the protection for bone density continues while on therapy, as there will be a rapid loss of BMD is HRT is discontinued. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5643776/ jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/211331
Thank you for this explanation, Dr. Lisa. If you don’t mind my asking….were you active and health conscious b4 your dx? I just wish I knew 20 yr ago 10% of what I’ve learned in the last 2-3 yrs. Non exerciser and consumer of Pepsi and wine. I guess “stable” is good w op
I was, mostly, but not perfect in any way. Not the healthiest eater in my late teens and early 20's when peak bone mass is built. Definitely had some habits that were not helpful to my bones over the years. But as we learn better, we do better. Can't go backwards, only forward.
Hi Dr Lisa. I prefer to go and have a Rems test they can also see the bone strength. Im following Belinda Becks Lift heavy trial. I have a personal trainer at a gym and now been going twice a week for ,9 months now. Ill have another Tems test in December. Just making my bones stronger and I take supplements too. But not calcium tablets.❤
I would prefer REMS scan too, but it is not widely available in the US. I don't have access to it. DEXA is still the standard for most people. Thought I do hope that changes soon! You are following the premiere OP strength researcher! Keep doing it! Share your results when you are able.
Ho Dr Lisa. Thank you for your reply. Yes,I will keep in touch when I go for the Rems test. I'm from the UK and we only have 2 places available in our country.Thank you ❤
Hi Lisa, re protein/day, how many grams per kg of body weight do you aim for? And would you be comfortable sharing your daily dose of magnesium, Vitamin D etc?
Supplements are personal and should be based on your needs. Protein too, based on activity. I shoot for at least 1.2 grams of protein per kg of body weight per day, spread throughout the day.

Most US based insurance only covers it every two years. It does take time to see measurable change.

Dr Lisa.... there is some exciting research on eating prunes daily😊
Thanks this is very helpful
Awesome!
Doctor, is it possible to perform exercises that involve jumping with osteopenia in the spine?
Check with your doctor for what is right for you. I have osteopenia too.
