    Watch our latest video: bit.ly/carbuyervideos
    The latest Land Rover Discovery is one of the most practical cars in the world, with space for seven adults across its three rows of seats. The 2.0-litre diesel engine offers impressive economy, while more powerful engines are also available. The Discovery is relaxing and comfortable on the move and handles well for its bulk - it’s is also cheaper than the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, but if you want leather seats, you’ll have to upgrade from the entry-level trim - at which point the price advantage disappears.

    There is actually a very good reason why this new Discovery doesn't have a split tailgate. Not only was the split tailgate expensive, but it was also difficult to seal and it attracted a LOT of corrosion!

    isn't discovery should have different design language than other land rovers ? to get me wrong i like land rovers design nowadays, but disco should looks more tougher rather than "just follow the crowd".

      Sorry disagree I have one and it looks great. Just give it time for people to get used to it and all that fuss about the design will be a distance memory. It's a bit like the evoque which a lot of people didn't like when it first hit the road. Opinions have now changed and sales figures back this up. The new Discovery, in my opinion, is better than the Disco 4 in almost every way. Land Rover has addressed the short comings of the old model. In fact it almost makes the Range Rover Sport redundant.

      Sotis .. have to disagree, even the dealers call ut 'the ugly sister of the range'. sure familiarity will help but it simply looks wierd - too tall with a wrap around lopsided rear end...it will never look right.

      George, fair enough you have a right to your opinion but still think it looks good
      in particular with the black pack I have specified. if you go on to some of the new discovery forums I think you will find there are a lot of people who disagree with you as well. Many of whom have received their new vehicle or are awaiting delivery.

    The 2007-2014 Chevy Suburban has been sold as the Via VTRUX and GMC Yukon XL in the United States and literally has won some Car of the year awards! It's more “station wagon” rather than “full-size SUV” like...let's say a Toyota Sequoia...

    Excellent review. Hoping he would have covered the Sunshade like Mat Watson probably would have. If I'm not mistaken this is one of the vehicle makers that got it right with a Solid Sunshade instead of the Mesh Sunshade that usually come with other high-end vehicles. With a Mesh Sunshade your vehicle quickly start to feel like you're a microwave on hot summer days.

    Nahhh i would spend extra and get the audi SQ7 which is much better built quieter more comfy, more refined more luxurious, not as practical but plenty enough, not as off-road capable but still almost no one will use them off road, but the thing is the SQ7 has EARTH MOVING torque with the V8 TRI turbo diesel and i am sure its more economical than this 4 cylinder lazy engine

    • @sotossocratous
      @sotossocratous 7 років тому +1

      and as Jeremy Clarkson - who I rarely agree with by the way- concluded in his Sunday Times column that the Audi SQ7 is absolutely pointless. I tend to agree with him on this occasion. The car is plain, no where near as practical and depreciates much more quickly than a discovery - the Audi is projected to retain only 43% of its value after 3 years.

  • @hedydd2
    @hedydd2 7 років тому

    Nice car. People don't have to purchase that specification at that price of course, because I'm sure LR sell them with basic Poverty Packs for less than £50,000. Still a lot of money but what else gives you the style and rough road potential along with 3.5 tons towing capacity for the price? Well there might be a few that will meet people's expectations for around the £50k mark, but if this one tickles your fancy, go for it I say.
    Personally I would buy the four cylinder but lease the six cylinder. The V6 has gained a poor reliability reputation of late, and I would not like to pay for a new engine after the warranty period.

    Back rear quarter and the back rear looks totally weird! Should of kept the square boxy look. But I understand why LL went with this design! The new Defender will be the boxy looking LL. LL did not want it to compete with the Defender! And it certainly will not with this bizarre style.

    not my taste at all.. it looks like Land Rover did cut and bodge job here.. from front it looks like they took Bonet style from Range Rover Evoque.. on side..just plain piece of metal with couple of lines and finally at the back :-( they took inspiration from new London bus.. it looks so bland.. I think they just realised that its been ages they made new model of discovery and management wanted new car asap.. so designers came up with this brilliant and cheap idea so they don't have invest anymore money in new technology

    • @sotossocratous
      @sotossocratous 7 років тому

      I think the designers will not be too worried abut your comments as Land Rover will or have sold many Disco's already. I do recall the Evoque was greeted with the same scepticism when it first hit the showrooms and guess how many Land Rover have sold since it's launch? Well over half a million and counting. Also, wait until the Range Rover Vela goes on sale. That's going to be a another winner although I'm sure it won't please some of the miserable people on this forum.

It has addressed many of the short comings of the disco 4 and to be honest it is a class above the old model. In fact it is that good that with the added practically and build quality I would choose it over the range rover sport and sorry to say over the Volvo XC90 which is still not as good.

    sorry but the back end is unbelievably ugly! As for the rear most seats, James looked really uncomfortable sitting there. There is no way any adult would thank you for that lift! All those electric chairs and flaps etc etc are just ridiculous. If the motors go, which given LR electrical problems the last few years they will, your screwed. The boot will be completely useless if the motor for the flap/perch seat thing goes!

    • @sotossocratous
      @sotossocratous 7 років тому

      I think you will find out of all the 7 seater SUVs out this is the only one which gets near to accommodating adults in the rear most seats. Also, electrical problems are common place across all car brands not just Land Rover. Some of the other so called prestigious brands have also been plagued by electrical faults. It will also get worse as we move away from petrol/diesel to electric vehicles although will be very interested to see how our infrastructure and National grid will cope with say a million electric vehicles. We will find out soon enough when Tesla start to produce the Tesla 3 - they have half a million on order.

    • @sotossocratous
      @sotossocratous 7 років тому +2

      In my opinion having electric seats is not a deal breaker. I had the Disco 4 and it was a chore folding and unfolding those seats manually so in that respect I can see why the designers have taken this route. I have had the car for around 5 weeks now and no complaints from me or my family. The Volvo XC90 is a nice car - I had the old one before the disco 4 - but the discovery has a better drive train, more refined and better packaged in my opinion but each to there own.

      Theweescot sorry, but the electrical problems were before 2013, yet people like you still try and use it as an excuse to slag of the car. If you want to complain about an issue, don’t complain about one that was abolished 4 years ago!

    Those electric seats and hatch are too slow. You will be soaked when it is raining.

    I really think Land/Ranger Rovers get too much of an easy ride from reviewers/critics; they are like IPhones when you stop being dazzled by the fact a new one is out and you have had time with it you realise others do the same thing much better. I don't hate them I just wish there was someone who would say "if you're a man in his mid to late fifties with a stinking amount of money or you're a lady with two over-pampered kids and a local Waitrose....here's the status symbol for you...and yes it comes in black"

      Sorry don't agree. I'm a man in his fifties but don't have a stinking amount of money and drive a Land Rover. Agree with your iphone comment though. Will always choose android over anything Apple.

      Chaka Whyte I'm a man in his fifties driving a Range Rover Sport and absolutely loving it. My wife loves it too and my kids are too old to care. And yes, we do have a local Waitrose. But here's the thing. We could be driving a boring XC60 or some German machine, but thank Christ were not. I feel bloody good about supporting a British brand.

    And as if the appallingly ugly design isn't enough, Whatcar now agree that the 2L diesel Disco 5 does just 26mpg, the worst on test. For a newly developed vehicle that is a disgrace.

    The Disco 3 (and the 4 restyling) had a very controversial look at launch. But it soldered 14 years, selling well even in its last year.
    I think this one will also be a classic, it looks good, the rear looks much better than the Disco 3, particularly the Disco 4. The Disco's always had a special look and the Disco 5 delivers.
    If you need a car that does it all well, chances are the Disco 5 or Sport are some of the best choices out there.
