The Velar looks way cooler than the more expensive Range Rover Sport. And its way more modern. I love this SUV
they updated the sport as well and the sport doesnt come with a 2l engine.

Why do car touch screens always have the frame rate of a netbook trying to run battlefield?

Okay, when you are rich, you will not buying something for what your money worth, but you buy something just because you simply like it.. and there is a lot people like that.. a lot !
Of course, that's why there are still people that will bid on classic cars even if it's not practical. Cars maybe just for transportation to you but not for other people.

This is a fabulous red Velar! Test drove a silver Evoque and fell in love. Yes they are pricey to fix, but I have always been a fan of the brand. Terrific review!

Give me physical buttons anyday. I can put the windscreen clearer on without taking my eyes off the road, I know the feel of the button. Touchscreen is just less reliable, gets smudged and is more difficult to use. I mean you could see the touch lag when he's using the screen it's pointless.
The camera can't pick up on the screen properly, so that's not how it is in real life.
Thomas Hee No it's not the camera. When you see video reviews of smartphones is there any delay? Not compared to this car. Go and watch the in depth Infotainment video of this car and you'll see the screen and software are not as responsive as you'd like them to be, especially if you were using them while driving.

Yes, but the touch screen is cheaper and easier to connect than placing many expensive buttons in various places.
For those wondering, the square 'bottleholder' is wireless phone charger space if one would have been opted.

Great review Matt, i sat in one of these at the weekend, am 6:2 and it was too small up front. I used to be able to easily jump in dosco's and range rovers, now they seem a bit tight
Great review Mat!!!!!.... as much as the Velar look seriously nice but the reliability of such a high tech car is seriously important as well. Can't imagine if the system blackout, I guess there is no way anyone can drive it. And Range Rover didn't fair too well in the reliability department.

The Velar simply looks fantastic in my eyes and I´m not the target group and I´m not particular found of SUV´s and I´m not from the UK. - It must be one of the best looking SUV´s on the market these days - I can not come to think about another luxury SUV that looks as clean, dynamic and having an absolutely great stance. The Jaguar F-pace is close, but lack the last parts for the elegance, details and streamlined composure.

Quick note: You can drop down the rear middle and left seats together by pulling on the left release lever in the boot. No need to drop the center seat first.
Honestly, do you guys like this new trend with screens operating literally everything on the car? Do you even like the look of screens over buttons because I sure don't :/

It will be the same story as when 16:9 screens came to the laptops. They killed of efficiency because of cutting costs and hinting that when watching a movie you don't get the black bars. Problem is, how often do you watch movies compare to actual work...
Same thing in cars. It may look awesome, but functionality wise they suck. I'd love a hybrid solution with buttons for navigation, but large OLED screens for viewing stuff. They should also pull in Google Maps directly instead of wasting money creating something by themselves. Viewing the map can of course be touch as an extra gimmick.

I don't understand why drivers would want to change car settings while driving.. If the need arises that you really have to make such changes or if you're simply fickle minded; you're supposed to safely find a spot to stop and make the changes then go once you're done. For me, I'd rather do all the needed adjustments before I drive out of my garage. All in all, great review, Mat.

Never seen one in person before. Watched this yesterday. Saw one today.
Nice review of a great SUV without a doubt. I would like to see you guys do a full detailed review of the Lexus LC 500, that car has the best interior excluding Rolls Royce's out today. This velar in my opinion has the best tech infotainment system available on any car today. Those two screens just look amazing, so sharp, detailed and the graphics really out of this world.

Love it. Still warming up to the screens instead of buttons but I'm slowly slowly getting use to it. Waiting on the new Defender. :)
What Land Rover really need to work on is their anti-theft system. We know a couple people who've had their Range Rover stolen (and never found again). A friends' was found in a shipping container in Thailand. There have been a ton of Range Rover thefts where i live.
