Ordered this kit a few days and will be doing the install myself on my bmw 320d lci (N47) today. Just a heads up the kits has been tweaked slightly so the brackets that hold in the bungs/plugs are different but will still work attaching to different bolts to secure them. Many thanks to you George, awesome and informative content keep it up.
I just ordered the delete kit myself now. I’m in the middle of removing the engine to do a timing chain replacement after the middle one snapped, and once I took the intake manifold off I decided to look for a video with instructions for EGR delete, and I found it. Thanx! Not much damage as I can see so far. 3 or possibly 4 rocker arms are broken. Both the cam shafts are undamaged. The valves I don’t know yet, but I’m pretty sure the rocker arms are «the weakest links» so any other damage is purely bad luck. This is an X3 btw so its also needed to remove the front drive shafts as they are going through the sump and the diff is also mounted to the sump. It is a hell of a job especially since it is the first time for me doing this kind of work. I will get some help replacing the chains and setting the cams in correct positions (have the tools already). Hopefully the engine will be good for many years to come. Btw, will the emission change so much that it will be illegal to drive with after the EGR delete? I am considering for the check in September to just use some strips to mount the EGR valve and cooler for them not to see that they are not in place. They normally dont look under the hood anyway, but just in case, I’ll do it.
Just a tip Turn the electrical connectors so they face down before cable tying them so the water will not fill them up and sit there or even better seal them to keep them dry and clean . Remap it’s a must after this the engine will run hotter after this mod !
How would the engine run hotter after this when the exhaust gasses are going straight out of the exhaust pipe and not fed back into the engine… surely it would run hotter before removing the EGR would it not as the hot exhaust gasses are put back into the engine? That’s the way I would see it would work anyway!
@@kanestewart7249 The EGR routes gas which has no real combusability (no oxygen) back into the intake, before it does this it goes through the EGR cooler. So you've got cool gas with no oxygen in it going into the combustion chamber instead of high oxygen. This is why when having the EGR fitted it makes the combustion chamber cooler. With the EGR deleted, the intake air is (mostly) uncontaminated, full of oxygen, and cooled by the intercooler (making it more oxygen rich), so the combustion temps are at their highest.
Hello George, nice video! I blocked it right on the 23mm stainless pipe that delivers the exhaust egr gases into the admission manifold when I did the swirl flaps removal. Also cuted out the egr difusor that was blocking about 10% of the air inlet.
Looking at buying BMW, but on my 1.9 TDI VW the intake wasn't bad at 200k miles, however I did blank the EGR and noticed a slight improvement in MPG, nothing otherwise noticeable though. I thought the part was faulty but turns out i was other sensor for the turbo... also I would think at MOT on the BMW it would be obvious having it located at the front of the engine.
Disconnected the EGR vacuum hose from on my E92 320d N47 engine and done about 300km. So far no engine lights have popped up and I have not remapped the ECU. Noticeable gain in power and MPG. Dont forget to seal the vacuum hose using a screw or something.
Darkside Developments write this on their web site: The EGR valve should NOT be removed on vehicles that still have the DPF Filter in place. Doing so may block the DPF as the EGR valve operation is a prerequisite for DPF regeneration.
I have also noticed this and would like some information as to how to blank that plz. I found out the hard way. I was following this video and luckily only had to reinstall air box when I realised they weren’t the same.
Hello sir, if you delete EGR just with EGR blanket plate, DDE will give a error : "Fault in the exhaust-gas recirculation" and your turbine will we always bypassed (open, no boost pressure). I will advise you to do a diagnose scan, just to see if any code is active.
Hello George. There is some part under the egr valve on the egr cooler thats vacuum controlled. Do you know what is it for. If it is sone sort of flap do you think that disconecting that vacuum line will block exhaust gasses even if the egr valve is active. Make some video of it if you can. Regards
Is it not possible to disable the operation of the valve - thereby achieving the entirety of the benefit with the exception of the weight loss? Seems that would be an easier implementation (and also easier re-instatement if you had to).
I tried to clean the egr, but I did not do the resetting bit. The actuating arm would get slightly stuck when pushed to open the valve, but seemed to get better before putting back in. After driving for a while, 2 erros showed up 255C00 and 290900. Is it because I did not reset it or is it because the valve was getting slightly stuck open? I also have a question about my dpf (main reason to be cleaning egr), so I tried go regenerate it from 54.99g of soot, but it would reach 45.99 and stop there. The average exhaust temp was about 450-500. Eventually it got to 45.80g when exhaust temperature increased to about 550°C, but it was hard to maintain that temperature (speed limit) and soot levels returned quickly to 45.99g. I used a dpf cleaner aditive in full tank, but not sure if it helped. Whats your advice on this one? All the requirements for a regenerations were met. Coolant, fuel, exhaust temp and no fault codes

Hi George, grey vid thanks. Can I ask something, if I delete my EGR and map it out, will the fact I haven’t deleted the DPF, do you think that would cause any problems? Thank you.
This might be a stupid question but I was wondering if the removal of the EGR valve will affect the DPF regeneration system. I want to remove my EGR valve now, but I plan to keep the DPF system in place until I get my emissions tested. I've heard that the regen system "requires all systems working" or something like that, and that makes me think the absence of an EGR valve might anger the ECU. I have heard about the EGR delete causing engines to struggle to get up to temperature and maintain operating temperatures at idle, or if the heater is on. I was wondering what your experience is with this. Thanks
Can you tune out/blank/delete the egr valve without causing issues with the dpf? I'm interested in doing this to my e82 but some places say if you remove or tune out the egr you have to remove the dpf as it uses the egr for regeneration.
Apparently the DPF will get more clogged with the EGR removed, how true this is I don’t know... however if you’re doing motorway journeys for the DPF to get hot enough then you should be fine👍🏻
My n47 is smoking like chimney. Its got the dpf light showing on the dash. Also its leaking oil from swivl motor flap and according to diagnostic it has egr valve stuck open. Can u please help. Kind regards.
Hi George, great vids mate, very informative thanks. Just a quick one, on the N47/57 the engine cover is quite small and you can see the EGR has been removed even with the cover on. Does this mean MOT inspectors might see its removed and if so is there any issue with that? No effect on emissions either?
ive been doing this for years and there is many ways to do this but prefer this way to declutter engine bay and have less redundant hardware that has a volume inside it for turbo spool to lag with or fill up with breather vapour over time.. good all round job to delete it from software and engine remap at same time as author says. But at the very least if you cant afford all this expense or think this will cause problems with prolonged engine getting to temp or problems with exhaust after treatment i would start off with an oil catch can on pcv system to greatly minimise the need for maintenance due to oil and soot mix
George. Thanks for the video it helped me to do an intake strip and clean on my F10 520D with the N47 engine. I also removed the EGR and the troublesome EGR cooler (which can leak and start an engine bay fire). I used a similar kit from Darkside too. My question is I now have the check engine light on, does the remap actually remove this warning and what should I be looking for in a company that provides this service? Many thanks.

Hi george After bit of help ! Want to remove my egr cooler on x5 n57 engine ! Bit confused as the plug that plugs into the cooler at the top if i unplug that engine note changes does not sound as smooth ?
Think my egr is on its way out now, I've been taking it out and cleaning it every now and then , but needing to do it more frequently now, I've ordered a new one to replace but can anyone tell me what size the 2 clips are that hold the 2 small coolant hoses on to the egr please Thanks
I have the kit delivered and planning to remove the egr. I know you have to remove the egr from the ecu but my question is if you remove the egr wil you get problems with the dpf?
You can force the DPF regen time to time but problem is, due to EGR removal, all the soot will be hitting DPF hence it will cause alot of drama quite often. Best approach is to delete and map out both at the same time. Good luck.
On C's mainly fitted in F10/11s you definitely need to remove DPF as well. Plus map-out for both to keep ECU happy. EGR removal only will cause DPF failure very quickly.
Hello, great video guidance, will it pass MOT? I drive BMW 2 gran tourer and got an intermittent EGR fault, want to remove and forget this bloody thing. Thanks

I know this is an old video but I would like to point out that your serpentine belt is mounted wrong....the ribs are supposed to go in not out....just FYI of you still have the car?
Great video George, I'm becoming a fan of your channel. Could the same results not be had by either making up a blanking plate for the EGR inlet and closing the flow of gas through the valve?
It would fail MOT as egr must be on the vehicle. So you have to put the egr and cooler back on also if you drive on the road and get stopped by the police you can get into some trouble with them If they notice egr missing.

Hello George, great vid. Should I apply this procedure to my 2014 f20 116d N47?
Thanks mate.
🍻
I still have chek engine litgh after when i blok my egr can you show me plz how i can fix it with ista plzz im big fun of your work
My friend try using cataclean it did the trick for me so you put cataclean on quarter tank then take it on a motorway keep your speed above 70mph for 20 mins with your rpm touching 3 all the best
Hi George my name steven from Australia, I’m watching your UA-cam, you had don so good video I got the X3 e83 3.0d m57 engine. I would ask you which is the good egr vale delete kit for my engine lot there is any website or companies I can order for my car thank
I have heard about the EGR delete causing engines to struggle to get up to temperature and maintain operating temperatures at idle, or if the heater is on. I was wondering what your experience is with this. Thanks
More likey thermostat
Never had an issue
Any problems with emissions at the MOT ?
Great video George but if valve is working ok it's just a matter of unplugging vacum pipe from egr valve and block it with some screw ;)
ive been doing this for years and there is many ways to do this but prefer this way to declutter engine bay and have less redundant hardware that has a volume inside it for turbo spool to lag with or fill up with breather vapour over time.. good all round job to delete it from software and engine remap at same time as author says.
Appreciate that Gary! A remap alone doesn’t clear the EML, you need to ask them to switch off the EGR at the same time👍🏻
Hey Gary, did you check what was the code when the engine light came up? P0401 or anything else?
Hi George. I have e92 LCI N57 engine and I've just received blanking kit. Now my question is can I drive car for a bit after blanking it ? I have arranged remap and software side to be done in two weeks time so just wondering if I can drive it after delete ?
Thanks for awesome videos . 👌✌️ Keep do what U do !
Yes should be fine to drive but you’ll get an EML after 20 miles or so👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters thank you. Will do this job Saturday!! All best
Thanx alot mate
I’ve ordered mine 👍🏽👌🏽 keep up the great work
they say that it is impossible to completely cut out the egr cooling system, since there is no normal circulation of coolant through 1 cylinder. What do you think about this? I have disabled only programmatically and the collector is clean.
Yeah that's not true. Completely fine to remove the EGR cooler.
George mate some people say after this delete the engine will run hotter, some say it will take longer to warm up. What's your opinion?
It may take slightly longer to heat up during winter👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters Thanks man
Hi george
After bit of help ! Want to remove my egr cooler on x5 n57 engine ! Bit confused as the plug that plugs into the cooler at the top if i unplug that engine note changes does not sound as smooth ?
Will doing this make error codes pop up at all?
What are the causes of bad egr? can it burn oil?
Hi George, how do I remapped the ECU? Do I need to sent it out somewhere? Your advice is much appreciated.
Go to a tuner
Put blanking plates in mine with the nessisary software and it seems to take for ever to get to operating temperature. Can't be good for the engine...
On my n57 there’s a pipe that runs directly across the front of the cooker so how do I tackle that ?
Think my egr is on its way out now, I've been taking it out and cleaning it every now and then , but needing to do it more frequently now, I've ordered a new one to replace but can anyone tell me what size the 2 clips are that hold the 2 small coolant hoses on to the egr please
Thanks
Hi
If I only remove egr and dpf without remapping. It's will work?
I have the kit delivered and planning to remove the egr. I know you have to remove the egr from the ecu but my question is if you remove the egr wil you get problems with the dpf?
You can force the DPF regen time to time but problem is, due to EGR removal, all the soot will be hitting DPF hence it will cause alot of drama quite often. Best approach is to delete and map out both at the same time. Good luck.
@GeorgeAusters it was a questions cauz I hesitated to remove my egr can u ask me sir?
Thank You man for presentention, you are the best!!!
what about your dpf,if you have it?it result more ash!And you have removed the elctrovalve egr,no engine light?
On C's mainly fitted in F10/11s you definitely need to remove DPF as well. Plus map-out for both to keep ECU happy. EGR removal only will cause DPF failure very quickly.
Does not plugging the cooling recirculation risk damage the circulation of the engine coolant?
Hello, great video guidance, will it pass MOT? I drive BMW 2 gran tourer and got an intermittent EGR fault, want to remove and forget this bloody thing. Thanks
From what I’ve see on the search web it’s only illegal to remove a dpf that a car have from stock you are allowed to remove egr or so Google
Anyone any idea on the mapping with hybrid turbos on my e82 1 series put my foot down other day and blew oil seals I’ve stripped it down and cleaned all inlet manifold and exhuast manifold bigger intercooler made some aluminium hard pipes running bmw 125d injectors and fuel pump and egr delete my mappers saying he doesn’t do hybrids does anyone know where does near Blackpool 🙈
Hi George , I have watched your video and it gives me an idea to start with , but I have a different engine from you . My car is an e90 320d efficient dynamics 2010 in year . I don’t know if I can send you a picture of mine on here but I will try . But just so as I know if it is a similar process for my car to remove this . I am not a mechanic ,but do a lot of my own mechanics ,and this “ I should be able to do “ but am nervous about stripping it all off ,then finding it’s a different part needed or other problems and not being able to put it back together . I had one quote only for this , and I think it is a silly price .. €500 .( I live in Spain ) and struggle to find a decent mechanic who is not going to rip me off ..please reply .thanks
I know this is an old video but I would like to point out that your serpentine belt is mounted wrong....the ribs are supposed to go in not out....just FYI of you still have the car?
Wrong.. It’s a double sided belt👍🏻
Great video George, I'm becoming a fan of your channel. Could the same results not be had by either making up a blanking plate for the EGR inlet and closing the flow of gas through the valve?
Same performance results yet but there are many benefits to completely removing the whole system
Would any one no would just putting g blanking plates and not removing still.have the same effect as taking off or does it need removing if doing it
Do you block off both vacuum lines. The black one and the long red one?
Once you’ve completely removed the system there is only 1 going to a junction at the back👍🏻
my engine only only has one port ?? and a bit comes off and goes into the water pump ?? any ideas george ??
Nice video, one question though, how much difference would this make to the emission test on an MOT?
It would fail MOT as egr must be on the vehicle. So you have to put the egr and cooler back on also if you drive on the road and get stopped by the police you can get into some trouble with them If they notice egr missing.
@@markhill1353 No it wont, i think you are referring to the dpf
@@augustlandstorp9236 if it came from the factory with the vehicle and is anything to do with emissions then it will fail if you remove it most will refuse to touch the car if you do, or if it’s for track use... your all good pal. 😉.
Never had an issue with MOTs, you’re usually fine if your engine is healthy
How common is for the 2 exhaust manifold bolts to be seized and snap during removal?
Never had an issue with it
@@GeorgeAusters mine just did, thank god it was the top one.
So after putting on the blanking kit, only other thing youve got to do is get the engine light code removed?
Get a remap after👍🏻
if I remove the van egr is there a risk that the car will go into degraded mode or that a warning light will appear on the dashboard ?? Or is it 100% safe ??
Thank you in advance for your help.
Why don't you answer my question? It's not polite, I've been asking you for 2 weeks.
Is the Mil allready off after disconnect cable??
Hi. Your tutorials are awesome bro. I'm just wondering if there's any side effects after this operation (smoke, performance....)? thanks. Do you know if the website does shipping to Canada?
Thanks, no negative effects!
They ship worldwide but make sure you order the correct kit, get in touch with them and let them know I sent you👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters I will let them know. Thanks for quick response mate
Thanks for the video! Do you know does my bmw work normally after this or is egr delete programming mandatory?
Need to get it programmed off or you’ll have EML on
@@GeorgeAusters Okay, but otherwise it is safe?
Hey bro, thanks so much for this video. Been getting a 40e9 code on my 320d N47 and came across this video. Seriously considering doing this but some people have told me I'd need to reprogram the ECU as well? I have no clue when it comes to cars but think I'm brave enough to attempt this haha. Thanks in advance
No problem Tom, glad it helps!
It’s best to get your ECU remapped yes, get the EGR switched off and the engine tuned at the same time for more torque and power
Silly question - But what's the benefit of doing this rather than just deleting in software?
Or alternatively - just unplugging the EGR altogether?
Creates a lot more space in the engine bay

Hi mate.
Great video! My 120d n47 struggles after fitting new egr valve. When I take off the vacuum pipe from the egr and plug it the car runs perfect. What could this be I've tried no end of things
Cheers Dave
Cheers mate.
If you send me an email and a donation to support the channel then I can spend sometime trying to help you👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters maybe mate. I think I've found the problem. When replacing an egr valve the new valve needs adaptation set on it, so the valve knows the cars values. I need to get it done at a indie
What is the difference between the N47 engine and the N47T engine?
Do I need to remove DPF as well if I do EGR delete?
Engine light is show? after delete EGR.
@George Austers
I don't know if George still actively monitors this page or not , I have a few questions.
I have a 2008 X3 2.0D (177BHP) and I am currently ordering this delete as we speak.
What is the code I type in for discount ?
Have you remapped your car yet ?
Do you still have your DPF fitted ?
Has this caused any issues ?
Regards
Richard
GeorgeAusters for free shipping at Darkside!
EGR and DPF removed and remapped after.
