(Super cool visuals to make people pay attention to your music)
RL Grime is one of the key pioneers of the EDM trap genre that emerged in the early 2010's. In this video we take a deep dive into his backstory to get the full picture of how he led the charge of the EDM trap scene, and how he bolstered the movement with his timeless releases. We connect the dots between those early days and the present day, where he is now the label boss at the coveted Sable Valley Records, helping mold up and comers into global superstars who can follow in his footsteps.

CORRECTION! So apparently RL Grime actually IS related to the founder of Steinway & Sons, thank you to those who pointed that out for me
EDM Trap God
Easily the GOAT.
Dude you’re videos are the best, so thorough and well said. Keep ‘em comin
Will do!
I went to see him as "Clockwork" back in early 2014 at EDC Mexico, maybe that was the set mentioned, he played a couple of his trap IDs and I remember being blown away by them, Tell me and Core where highlights at the time, so glad I got to see him at least as Clockwork :) it was mostly a trap/dubstep set with a sprinkle of big room after the first half hour lmao
league of legends with controller is crazy
came to the comments for this.. wtf... who made that clip? xD
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that saw that 😂😂
It's a stock video clip from Pexels 😭 Idk anything about league lol
Appreciate the time you put into these!
I saw RL Grime in Tempe last year. It absolutely blew me away, he 100% deserves wayyy more hype
I missed out on that sadly. I remember it being at Sunbar and I just know the whole room shook

Yesssssss

FR !!!!
Adding it to the list! I haven't kept up with them much in recent years but I saw them once in 2017 and love their Los Amsterdam album
Great artist! Requesting 'Above & Beyond' for a future vid
Love your channel bro! Been binging the whole page. While we’re on the topic of trap, can you do a video about the come up and come down of trap? It’s been on my mind a lot in recent years how trap was the biggest sound in underground edm at one point then it just seemed to completely fade with the emergence of all the dubstep. You hardly ever see a pure trap artist on lineups other than RL Grime, dude is holding it down 😩
Yeah that sounds interesting, I'm down to do that! Not sure how soon it will be but I'll put it on my idea board
The genres getting a comeback now cuz of artists like Isoxo, some from sable valley and nitepunk so that’s cool
Hard summer 2015 set I still play to this day. Legendary set to witness
Where can I find this?
Never knew that about Autoerotique getting him to meet Aoki. Love how artists build other artists who build other artists to keep the scene going.
Great video as always. No mention of Core tho? I feel like thats his top track
I figured I wouldn't mention specific tracks on the album aside from Julia because of that sample, but I guess I could have emphasized how big Core and Valhalla were
Not to mention he picked up a residency in Vegas and has been doing his thing at Resort World since! (if ur in Vegas, go. that club tech is crazy)
he is my favorite artist to see live
Bro I never screamed as much in a video before. Fallaway, Julia, void, pour your heat out bro this is crazyyyy
Documentary fit for a King 👑
Damn wild.I loved clockwork back in the day. Didn't know he was the same person as RL Grime.
possibly my biggest all-time festival L was Camp Bisco in 2013 when Henry played as bother RL and Clockwork and I knew Clockwork and he played a dope set and all my friends kept talking about almost unknown RL Grime was the highlight of the whole fest and I didn't knooooow
think i was there lol
I have a few Clockwork IDs on my old laptop, which is now lost
In the words of Isoxo "That man is a legend right there holy sh*t" love you rl goat
RL Grime, Baauer, Flosstradamus with Josh and Kurt. Trap really peaked 2013 😢
What's the very first track in this video, right as you begin with your intro? Sounds siiiick
It's a demo loop from splice
Do Seven Lions!
Its becuase of you and always are my favs
I remember the dark days around 2018 2019 when trap was just getting soo uninspired and derivative and the big trap names of that era were kind of fading away, it just felt like it was dying, it made me sad. I love trap. And for it to keep going and be better than ever, I'm so happy :)
Isn't there an article from DJ MAG that he is related to Henry Steinway????
Yeah someone else also mentioned that, I read part of that article but totally missed the part about his relation to the company 😆 I'm gonna leave a comment with the correction
can you do one on heroes x villains? very elusive trap legend
Please do ISOxo & Knock2 next!
Do Zomboy or NGHTMRE next
Do one on Tipper

It's a demo track from splice
Could you make a video on isoxo 🙏
Definitely will happen at some point 🫡

Me and my friends call him "The Trap King"

Amphibian! Bangerrrrr
@@michellehinton9657 thank u friend
And the song at 16 min 😮
do getter next!! or terror reid
Yes! I've been wanting to do a video on him for a while. I'm working on Illenium right now and am doing Ganja White Night after that, but I'm down to do Getter/Terror Reid soon, I think that would make a crazy video
Make one of illenium
He's next!
Did I miss you talk about Core?
It's on the VOID album so I didn't want to rattle off all the tracks, but I guess I could have emphasized how big Core & Valhalla were
@@audioeats trutruuuuuuuuu I just felt like that was his major hit that tune was everywhereeeeeeeeeee. Great video as per usuallllllll
@@audioeats could’ve sworn I was subbed. Hmmm well now we are fosho lol
Do Sara Landry
ISOxo performed out here in Salt Lake City, it was at the BoxPac Warehouse, the event was thrown by Mutiny Music Collective.
tipper
Fun little fact check, he doesn’t coincidentally share a name with the co founder of Steinway Pianos, his great great grandfather Heinrich Steinway is the founder of Steinway Pianos…
Where did you find that? I did a lot of digging and couldn't find any link between the two (not saying that means I'm right though). But also, Henry E Steinway/ Heinrich E Steinweg was born in 1797, and RL Grime's great grandfather was likely born somewhere in the early 1900's
Edit: whoops I didn't see you put 2 greats, so that would push it back into the late-ish 1800's
@@audioeats dang! You must’ve missed the latest and in my personal opinion GREATEST RL piece DJ Mag RL Grime Cover piece in January. They had a DJ Mag show in LA a month or so after too. The author Megan does an incredible job, truly one of the best pieces out here.
I just did the math and if Henry E Steinway / Heinrich E Steinweg had a kid at 30 years old, and each subsequent child had the next child in the lineage at 30 years old, that would make RL Grime the great great great great great grandson at minimum, but it's likely even more removed from that as people were having kids far younger than 30 in those time periods. So it makes it pretty difficult to trace the lineage that far back, and as far as I'm aware the link between RL Grime and the Steinway & Sons founder hasn't been confirmed or even publicly acknowledged by RL Grime. The only piece of info I can find making the claim is an Australian music publication from 2015 saying that RL Grime is the great great grandson of the founder, but obviously the math doesn't add up there and nothing else was provided to back it up. I guess my conclusion is that there isn't enough public information to confirm whether they are or aren't related, so saying they for sure aren't related in the video was a reach.
What's it called so I can look it up?
Oh whoops I just found it, you're right! I'm still not sure what's up with the claim of him only being the great great grandson though, the math definitely doesn't add up there, but I guess they're referring to the final family owner of the company rather than the founder. Anyways, I'll pin a comment with the correction, thank you for pointing that out!
The trap scene is in good hands with RL Grime at the helm. Quality over quantity kind of guy and I appreciate that about him.
one does not simply have footage of someone playing league with a controller
Song from 15:43-16:27?
I opened the comments for the same question. please let us know @audio eats
It's a demo track from splice
@@audioeatsdang it goes hard
This is father grimes world and we’re just livin in it. Let’s fucking go bb. Great shit my guy
He was influenced by 90’s rap such as 50 cents get rich or die trying 😂😂😅 50 cent came out in the 2003 not the 90’s lol
Good catch, that's my bad 😅 He did like 90's rap as well though
I think you mean edm/dance trap, not actual trap music lol
Yeah definitely lol, I only cover electronic music on the channel
I wouldn't call him the "godfather of trap" lol ...
