You're doing a lot better with the names, keep working on it! If you find the time play "Dynasty Warriors 8" (don't play 9 it's trash), it's based around the Three Kingdoms era as well, is a pretty fun game, and could really help you learn the pronunciations as well as the story of the era 😊

To anyone that is being critical of his pronunciation: first consider the fact that he's being respectful enough toward the Chinese language and culture to attempt to pronounce the names correctly and to *care* one way or another if he does it correctly. So think about that before you jump on him for not pronouncing them perfectly. Respect, particularly on the internet, can be pretty scarce and so its commendable that he cares.
That's what I find so great is that he puts the effort in. Even though he gets it wrong a lot of the time it is so hard as an English speaker to pronounce Chinese words especially since Pin Yin conversion of Chinese to English is confusing. It makes me happy that he puts the effort in since many do not.
Also its a video game and hes not saying anything racist so like idek why everyone is so pissed
Zhao Yun (Zhao Yoon) is one of the most iconic and loyal general of that era. He saved Liu Bei's wife and son when they got captured by Cao Cao during the battle at Chang Ban! And he is one of the 5 tiger generals of Shu.
I hear allot of people when they try to pronounce Zhao over emphasize the Z sound and split it almost into two words like Z-how. It might be helpful for people to think of Zhao like the word Chow, but with a slight z at the start Zchow or Zhow , try to say it fast in one syllable. Hope that helps anyone who is struggling with the pronunciation. Sidenote; when Zhao Yun tried to save Liu Bei's wife didn't he fail, and she jumped into a well to commit suicide? After that he did successfully save Liu Bei's infant son, which then lead to the hilariously bizarre part where Liu Bei the kind and honorable grabbed his son from Zhao Yun and threw him onto the ground exclaiming that "This little brat almost got my finest general killed!"
it's not Zhao Yoon. It's Zhao Youun.
I think its easier to say it as Jaow Yoon, the J sound being the same as jump and jelly, rather than Jack

@@fleon1269 Yes, i own it. Art is great, soundtrack and general game design are top notch. It has huge loading problems ( as usual, but from turn 1), campaign is cool and full of new feathures, but some mechanics fail horribly at this point ( rice trading too OP...) Heroes are fun and a nice RPG concept, that they will probably implement into multiplayer, BUT they are completely not as well implemented as in total war: warhammer. In conclusion: i Kinda regret buying three kingdoms for 59€... also i get the feeling that i wil get bored of the campaign in few weeks. and I never felt that in tw:warhammer 1/2...

@@wick7179 The campaign is very different and diplomacy is totally different and its actually WORKING.already have 50hours in with 1-2 lords.The game has its downs (tech tree is simplest it can be,buildings is not as simple as warhammer but its not more complicated than it should be in my opiniion) battles , i dont know i like them diffenetly i though some units were really op but not now since i played more.Its totally worth it

All of the cavalry in Gongsun Zan's retinue have white horses. It's a nice touch as he is The White Horse General.

The icons that stay the same size no matter how far you scroll away are a great way to cover half of the screen at any time. Who in CA thought it was a good idea? Normal banners would be 100 times better.

It's so hard to pronounce these names as an English speaker, and although he gets many of the names wrong, I appreciate his dedication so much. It means a lot to know people want to get it right since a lot of people just mock the Chinese language out right.
The fact that you're trying is already a great step. I'm Chinese (though I don't speak the language terribly well) and I wager you're already getting the pronunciations pretty damn close. If you wanna have fun, there's some 3 kingdoms Chinese dramas with English subtitles, just listen to it for fun and the names might help with the pronunciations
Being ethnicly Chinese, it means a lot that he puts the effort in to say the names correctly. People usually don't care or just make fun of the language so the fact that he tries is good.

There's an easy way to find out Chinese pronounciations, just put the name into google-translate, pick the chinese translator and then have the name translated into chinese characters and spoken aloud. The characters might not necessarily be the correct ones (so the intonation of which Chinese has four might be off), but it's good enough.

I wonder if the players use actual military strategies from the past or just “go for it” and attempt the best plans they come up with.
I've never played in multiplayer but when I play the campaign I try to use some "strategy" that I've read from historic battles. Live I've used my own version of the "Eight Gates" while I was defending once. Otherwise I actually fail to use the "counter" style of combat that the game wants me to use.
Your pronunciation has gotten a lot better! One thing that I noticed you were doing was you were replacing the "u" sound with "i" in a lot of their names. For example, Xu Huang, you pronounced it as Xi Huang. You are getting better! I love your videos and keep it up!
It's great that he tries to pronounce them correctly. Means a lot to me and even though he gets them wrong it is the effort which really matters.
@@aardvarkdisco yeah he is honestly doing really great compared to some of my friends who try to say my Chinese name. One thing that made me mad was that Total War paid people who couldn't even say the names right.
I know they say green heroes don’t do well against most troops but if you stick them on foot in one of your infantry lines they do really well

To learn the names easier id say go watch cut scenes from dynasty warriors games I think you will enjoy them and get the know the characters a little, even though a lot of it is fiction however to a lot us viewers we really relate the 2 :)
Edit: I really actually do insist that you watch the cut scenes for dynasty warriors 8! It has a lot of pronunciation's and i think this will help out a lot!

So unit formations were used in this battle. That would have helped choke points a lot.

Hey friend. For learning the names there are easier ways . China made a tv series in 2010 or 2012 that named three kingdoms you can see full story of this historical era and you can see the 90% of the game characters in the show with the names and history briefly and it is a good show not good cinematic visuals and scenes but has perfect story line,great actors and characterizations

Those duels are in my opinion a fantasy of created for entertainment and to mislead the public. Though duels before the battle/during the siege can increase or decrease the morale of the army but it needs to be public and the entire army needs to know in order for it to be effective.

14:37 those battlements are called crenellations
Sometimes troops disobey orders to retreat and some people do obey but want to go back. So I think it makes sense for the lag when you try to pull a unit out of a fight. I don't think it's a bug that should be patched. It makes it more realistic.
If y'all pretty big on Romance of 3 Kingdoms back in PS 1.... each of these generals has very interesting back story to it :)
The word you're looking for at 14:45 is crenelations
I think we should have a random generated hero's. The non legendary characters. And maybe you could rename them so if you was doing a custom battle you can have a non legendary sentinal or champion. For example gonsunzan he only has shaoyun and if you wanted a 3rd retinue you'd have to pick another legendary lord who wasn't in the same faction as him.

Guan Yu and Zhao Yuan are tiger generals of Liu Bei. Zhuge Liang is the greatest strategist in 3 kingdom. Sima yi is his arch rival.

Everytime you see a "Zh" in the name it's usually pronounced like how "Sh" words would be pronounced in English except replace the "S" sound with a "J" sound instead. I hope that makes sense.
