castles shouldn't be balanced for multiplayer they should actually be hard to take because that's how they were made. If sieges were perfectly balanced for multiplayer then you might as well just do a field battle because a siege should be unbalanced personally I love the siege maps in thrones because they have just ignored balancing in favour of attackers and just gone how can we make cool maps that are actually difficult to attack and easy to defend. Also total war is at its core a single player campaign game so it doesn't really need to be balance for multiplayer in my opinion

At least allow the attackers more troops to lay seige. Because that would make sense in sending a proper force to take that territory if the terrain & defences are in heavy favor of the deffenders. And the beach was unaccesible from the land battle so that didn't help a whole lot. It should be open regardles
Pixelated Apollo I get your point but I just think sieges should be difficult to act as a way to stop you being able to conquer your enemies really easily and actually force you to either use overwhelming force or siege them out and nit just roll on up with a pretty minimal army and take it. I know I’m talking from a campaign point of view and this is multiplayer but the battle maps are shared for both and, in my opinion, the campaign is the most important bit of any total war game so they should be balanced with the campaign in mind more than multiplayer.
ShadowGamer5 Scorpio every point you made is good except saying that the beach should be open. If the beach was open you would just be able to walk around the walls which would defeat the point of having walls. If I’ve misunderstood what you meant then sorry about that
at 1:45 you can see a pathway up the hill to the back of the setlement, it is the path where the archers came from, great video btw.

This settlement remaining me of some old ancient site in South America.... Is exactly copy.... First thay thinking is just mauntin but is man made fortification... I cant remember name... Two triangle path ways, triangle shaped with stairs.

maybe unbalanced but i still like the thrones of britannia maps best out of all total war games. just overall much more creative/interesting. i would take an unbalanced map over a boring one any time.

CA needs to come out with engineering tactics like the Romans building earthwork ramps or Cesar's double walls at Alessia be able to use some troops to build a fort and trenches etc during a battle etc etc they also really need to add a walk backwards and fight move or give ground that way if there is a battle line you can let the center give ground while still facing the enemy and envelope them or something
Rogue Raven yes I do agree, although it would make it more complicated, it would improve the games, but generally in total war the battles aren't line vs line realistic they are mostly scattered troopers fighting not in one cohesive army, the newer games improve on this (although being generally worse than the originals). I think what would need to be added or changed is the size of the map, the maps should be much smaller and the base unit size should be 256, also the speed at which the units move should be only 50% of what is now and be less cohesive, obviously elite units move faster and more cohesively. Plus hidden units should be almost impossible so see until you walk into them or they come out. Finally there should be some height bonus so fighting uphill is almost suicidal, so you would take the hight of the defending unit off ground level in 6inch increments and than that would be the percent bonus of damage and health/resistance/defence.
EDIT: also I believe it should take twice as long to kill a soldier so battles last longer and are mor about moral than men as a unit will likely flee before being wiped out.
It's a very good point. Seige warfare has never been done well in computer games. Unless the attacker had a big advantage in numbers, castles were rarely taken by assault.
This is a good idea. It could be the revival and new addition to the series that they so badly need.

I was like a child on Christmas watching this I heard of an impossible siege and then I said “Nothing is impossible when your a knight of Apollo “ really good vid and commentary I get that desync problem a lot too it’s really frustrating
Just imagine what those 2 archer units which wanted to sneak behind the line would do if they would stay in the city and shot at apollo berserkers.

So I see your point but I think Apollo means is that if his archers would have made it without being caught it would’ve been an extremely good move and was clever but it failed it was a good and clever plan but Apollo spotted him ,again I think he should’ve seen those archers in the first place because that is very bold of him because he can be caught very easily but he is a bold player (not to be rude but in your typing you spelled minute munite which is spelled wrong)

I think that.... The move would've been more successful if he held it til more of Apollo's forces had committed... And also had added a infantry unit to it. I think he sprung his surprise too early

-Nice siege, by the way. I love TOB settlements. Several of them are very challenging & I think that's exactly the way it should be. Maybe not the best in this instance but so aggravating (in the best way) & immersive during gameplay.
-Also your general got the warrior's death & now lives in eternal glory with all his vanquished foes in Valhalla.

The first start of their defense was good but once you stated to break through it seemed like they gave up.
If I was defending the side you was attacking Apollo I would have gave up that outter layer and fallen all those weaker units back to that one choke point and used them in layers going up that hill as a meat shield. It would also mean more people defending one area. Also those Archer outside the wall was a big mistake.

Multiplayer balance should NEVER be considered for siege maps. Sorry Apollo that's just a terrible take. When making a castle the defenders don't sit back going hmm this is way to tough for the attackers let's make this simpler 🤦🏻♂️
Plus, the mechanic that the defenders stats get nerfed from settlement destruction (which just happens over the course of the siege) works wonders in balancing the match out.

You really should’ve coordinated with your team to burn everything you can before attacking. That would’ve had a big impact on the defenders
I actually watch this live in mr.brunswick livestream and this is one hecka close siege battle even the settlement is really hard to attack....

1:45 There is a 3rd vector of assault on this map from the looks of it, a path along the mountain that leads to that ungated area.
Apollo should use Manic's Expanded Factions mod which lets you use any faction in the game.

In a properly designed castle a few hundred defenders can hold of tens of thousands of attackers. That's why they were used.

Love the videos! Two things; it's an easy siege because sieging involves staying outside and starving the city into surrender. That's a siege. What you have is an "impossible Assault".

Impossible Nothing is Impossible SEND YOUR ENTIRE ARMY TO CRUSH IT
I think a practical strategy for the second layer on Apollo's side is, use your archers to push up enough to fire at the enemy infantry/towers and soak up the enemy ammo instead of your infantry doing so. Also save your artillery for unit holding the choke point, then push in with elite infantry. Your archers are basically useless at the second layer anyway so using them to soak up the ammo is best and they have to kill them with their archers or else their infantry at the choke point gets slaughtered by archer fire. You could also use cav to threaten them to force them to keep infantry at the choke or else you can run past if they try to pull away from your archer fire. I think it's pretty full proof if done correctly. Even if they try to rush down infantry to kill your archers than you just push your infantry up and fight them at the bottom of the hill with a cheap unit and then they have to deal with friendly fire.
