      For some reason I have been in a real rut, I could see a really nice steady improvement on the art I was doing and then all of a sudden nothing I drew I liked and when I looked at it, it looked like I was getting, not worse, but forgetting a lot of the things I had picked up from other artists such as yourself Lindsay.
      Everything I know with regards to art came from watching you and many other artist in the online community. I think I maybe need to go back to basics and work back. I know every artist goes through this type of thing, I just think this is my turn and I need to work through it and get to the other side. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment as always Lindsay and your support

    Thank you Harry for your video. How is the family? Please give your daughter a big hello from Belize and i pray that your father is doing ok. I recently got into fountain pens. Do you have any fountain pens and what is your thoughts on using fountain pens for art?

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  2 роки тому +2

      I only have one fountain pen, a Faber Castell one and I absolutely love it, I bought some water proof ink for it as I am planning on using it for an up coming Watercolor painting. I’d love to use and review a lot more fountain pens I think their use in art is amazing, it’s definitely something I have wanted to start reviewing a lot more of.

    Thanks for the review, Harry.
    Regarding lightfastness, I read on the Pencil Topics website that Cretacolor colored pencils are tested by ASTMS D4303 - LF1 ( highest ) or LF2 ( of 5 levels of standard ). It seems to me to be correct, because ASTMS 4303 can be carried out under xenon, and it is written on the packaging of Cretacolor that the test is carried out under xenon and that the result is LF1 and LF2. Pencil Topics adds: "ASTMS 4303 Testing is not done on the product, it is done on the ingredients."
    I have all the Cretacolor blocks (which I love!), and Cretacolor says they are all lightfast (same for the Marino watercolor pencils).
    Their pastel pencils, their pastel blocks and their Marino have the same colors.
    So I think Cretacolor tests the ingredients once (not the products and the artwork like ASTMS 6901 does). Cretacolor would consider all of their products containing their tested ingredients to be lightfasts. (Sorry if my English is not perfect.)

    Good review thanks. Can you tell me the name of the caran d'ache sharpener. I cannot find it online.

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  3 місяці тому

      amzn.to/3ZAmmh0 This is the sharpener, this is it in red, mine is silver, when I purchased it to review, I couldn't find the red one, I love the red sharpener and would much rather have purchased it over the silver. But they are both the exact same sharpener, they are very expensive but I have had mine about 6 years now I think, perhaps more, are it works the same as the day I got it.
      Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and your support and I. hope this is the right sharpener you were looking for

    Harry that piece is incredible. This review comes at a perfect time. I gave panpastels more than a fair shake and they're just not for me. I've been trying to decide on a set of pastel pencils and these weren't even on my radar and have now moved to the top. Thanks for everything Har. Hope you and the family are well. I think of your daughter often and hope she is doing amazing. 💙

      Hi Rachel thank you so much for your lovely comment and for thinking about Amelia. She was doing really well not that long ago but over the last 5 weeks she has really taken downward spiral. Every now and again something triggers a memory from her past and it really scares her and has a dramatic effect on her. But we will do what we have always done, keeping pushing through, surrounding her with love and safety and she has a wonderful therapist, however when she turns 18 in 4 months she loses that therapist as she is an adult. But thank you so much for your comment we are very lucky as a family that so many of you here on the channel ask after Amelia and I always she her the comments which always makes her so happy.

      @@TheArtGearGuide Poor Amelia. I feel so much for her. There's no way that being so strong through such awful stuff wouldn't have a lasting impact on her. Im just happy and grateful she has such a wonderful and supportive family. Even Kota. It isn't easy, life can be so tough sometimes but we all love and support you and your family. I empathize with youd daughter and just hope she knows we want the best for her. The love between your family is so clear to see, I know she couldn't be in a better place to go through whatever she needs to do to heal. Keep on keepin on Harry. 💜

    Thanks so much for yet another very thorough, informative and helpful review. Your time and attention to giving your followers the best review possible is greatly appreciated. One note regarding pencil sharpeners… The Swordfish 40100 Tabletop Manual Self-Stop (It stops once a sharp point is achieved. You could just give it a few cranks if a sharp point would be wasteful) Pencil Sharpener, sold on Amazon, is considered by Jason Morgan and others (myself included), to be the best sharpener for pastel pencils. Blessings!

    It looks like a gorgeous set of pastel pencils. I am always afraid of getting pastel pencils sharpened, as they tend to be extremely brittle.

    I have some o this pencils and my big problem is sharpening them. They are cheaper than fabercastell or carbothello in my country. But the time i spent sharpening them is too much, i want to paint not sharpener.

    Hullo Harry, I believe your being much to hard on your drawing! I know that we all are our own worst critic's! Give yourself a break I think your artworks looks very nice! You can see all of the faults and parts you are unhappy with! Perhaps it looks not as nice in person but online I believe it looks fabulous! Emma is a tremendous Artist and I would never judge myself against her! Neither should you! I have been a working Artist for over 35 years and I am rather new to pastels in general, but I can make Art in many mediums as well. Just give yourself a chance! I like your review videos and believe in you and your skills too. Your attitude about the artwork has nothing to really do with the actual piece! It is Good! Well I will let it go and so should you! Take care and be well!

    Nice review. I like the drawing - it covers two things I am not good at in my colored pencil work - fur and eyes. I don’t have pastel pencils as I am not familiar with any type pastels . I plan on signing up for Lindsay’s Pastel class in a few months, but I just retired (🍾) and am trying to tie up loose ends to get started on my fulltime RV adventure( I think it’s called a caravan in your part of the world) . Best wishes to you and your family as always.

    All of the Cretacolor stuff seems to be increadibly overpriced. It appears to be a cheap brand that's trying to promote itself as a premium brand.
