Cabin in The Woods is one of my all time favorite horror films. Plus I’m am so game anytime I can see a half naked Hemsworth. If Hemsworth wants to take me on a shite covered forest floor Hemsworth gets what he wants ❤
@@stutter_box can i ask you? is it Erick or Eric/k?😂 also, wanted to recommend you to ckeck out "white oleander" movie/book maybe you gonna like it, i feel that you might Have a nice evening bb 💚
I have developed a LOVE for you, Eric(k?). By your smooth, informed and dilligent commentary, I find it hard to believe thath you stutter,. But if you actually do, you are surely free of stutter in your film analysis. I admire your thoughts and insight. Agata...
Just thought of something they say that the ritual is carried out by every country where they need to kill the fool the jock etc but the one in Japan from what we see is in a child’s school so how were they supposed to complete or do you think it’s different per country since we never actually find out.
The ritual is cultural so it definitely varies. In the US it has to be a group of college students (all the slashers and whatnot of the 70s and 80s etc) with the virgin being the last one standing. In Japan it’s young schoolgirls and curses (and they’ll likely have a set of rules they need to fulfill as well to complete their ritual). We never find out specifics, but the best guess would be to analyse Japanese horror and their own tropes for them ☺️
Personally I hated this film. I found it far too smug, even for a meta parody. It felt like Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard were just jerking themselves off over how smart they thought they were. The only thing I enjoyed was spotting all of the archetypes of horror villainy. Not knocking anyone who loved it, though.
The first kill by Jasons mom was a man. For having sex. Kevin Bacon was also killed first. For having sex. Johnny Depp was killed in Elm Street for being horny. The entire sequel to Nightmare on Elm Street was a gay allegory. So whats this “trope” you’re going on and on about? Yes, in a lot of cheap, B movie crap there are a lot of half naked women getting slashed but you seem to be forgetting that the majority of the survivors are women too. The Final Girls. Always stronger than the men and always ultimately stronger and smarter than the killer. You could call that a trope too. 2011 gave us Red State (gay man killed here first btw) The Innkeepers, the Thing prequel (starring a woman) Silent House, Super 8 and Scream 4. Not a terrible year for horror. Lots of “conventions” being tested. Not to mention Attack the Block, Troll Hunter and The Skin I Live in. Honestly, horror didn’t suck. You just didn’t want to see what was good.
Honest to God question, did you watch the video? Your first paragraph is essentially confirming the running trope of using sex as an “excuse” to kill off characters. It’s “the sin” which this movie pokes fun at. Also highlights how unnatural some of those sex scenes are when the engineers have to manipulate them into doing it. This specific trope has happened a lot in horror movies and I think it was time to change things up a bit. And the cabin in the woods seemed to agree. This isn’t to say horror movies with said tropes are without its merit. They were pioneers for a reason. They just got monotonous along the way. Trust me, there’s plenty of horror movies pre this movie that I love, so I do recognise the good in horror. Also, the “this is why horror sucks” is more the ultimate message this movie was sending (in my opinion, and the reasoning is explained in this video). the Final girl is also a trope they poke fun at as well because she’s usually a virgin, and in this case Dana (and the director says “we work with what we have”), in ither words saying it’s unrealistic of stories to always include a final girl that “fits” certain pre-requisites in order to be worthy of the title. We’ve also seen more and more final girls in recent years that aren’t that specific cliche, they’re flawed and allowed to be flawed (something you would never expect from a final girl). Not sure how any if these rings untrue, but happy to hear your side! ☺️
