As an American wildland firefighter i would prefer this over an MRE, mountain house or normal fire lunch. The biggest thing for me was that after 14 days on a fire you would be getting the same meat sandwich with abunch of crap that never sits well when your hiking, cutting trees, digging line or deploying hoses. We had multiple guys either get sick from eating too much of the lunch or not eating enough. Its no secret within the wildland fire community that very rarely does anyone ever eat the full lunch or MRE because not alot of guys have the stomach for it. Dont get me wrong the food great just not for what were doing.
@kingsharke14 Oh dude somebody will know my pain, those stupid sack lunches with the sandwiches in them. Half the time I just chucked most of it away which I felt super bad about, but man you hit the nail on the head they never sat well with you. Sadly it seems your field kitchens were better than mine this year, 75% of time I ended up eating an MRE over eating what the field kitchen tried feeding me.
Like Steve said in the video those drinks help encourage fluid intake which is vital to keeping firefighters cool and hydrated and avoiding heat stroke and fatigue. We are told to keep a 2- 1 ratio of water to sports drinks to keep our electrolytes up because straight water wont do it. I kept beverage bases in my pack instead of carrying around a bunch of Gatorades or powerade along with the 4 issued 1 quart canteens. So the 8 in the meal is a little over kill but i wouldnt complain.
