ISHITANI - Making a Round Low Table with rattan shelf

- The main body is made of cherry wood and the shelf is made of woven rattan.
The top was carved into a tray shape, so it warped quite a bit during processing.
The warping was held down with bolts without interfering with the top's expansion and contraction.
If the top was not warped, it could be used on both sides by simply placing it on the legs without using bolts.
本体はチェリーの木で、棚は籐を編んで作りました。
天板はお盆状に彫り下げましたので加工中にだいぶ反りました。
天板の伸縮を妨げないようにしながら反りをボルトで押さえています。
天板に反りが無ければ、ボルトを使わずに脚に乗せるだけで表も裏も使える仕様になります。

Another masterpiece and another 20 minutes of pure pleasure. Poor old Shiro looking his age but still supervising.
I just sit around in my shop for months, practicing my dovetails, until the master returns with some content.

Your technique and true discipline of hand crafting is amazing. I love the juxtaposition of your modern equipment along with your self honed planers. The machines rid of the excess , and your hand and eye get to the “guts” of the creation. Simply beautiful.

Very creative! I thought that what ended up being the top of the table would be the bottom of it. The choice you made gives the table a much more hand made feel, which I suppose it is to an extent, even if you partly used a cnc. I think this is the best use of a cnc I've seen in UA-cam so far.
