  • Red Bull Racing's Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey will leave the team in 2025 after 18 years and 13 championships.
However, that doesn’t mean the track-only hypercar he designed for Red Bull-dubbed the RB17-will be abandoned. Newey said he will complete development of the car ahead of its debut later this year.
“The final stages of development of the RB17 are now underway,” Newey said in a statement. “So for the remainder of my time with the Team, that’s where my focus will be.”
Red Bull backed up the confirmation, saying: “Adrian will focus on the final development and delivery of Red Bull’s first hypercar, the highly anticipated RB17 which will be unveiled at Goodwood in July.”
The Red Bull RB17 hypercar will be a track-only vehicle, with reports suggesting it will feature a 1,000-horsepower V-10 engine that can be revved to 15,000 rpm, with an electric motor producing an additional 200 hp.
The car is said to weigh less than 2,000 pounds, and will reportedly be capable of F1-comparable lap times.
Peak downforce is estimated at 3,747 pounds at 150 mph, and 2,000 pounds at 120 mph. Red Bull only plans to build 50 examples of the RB17, and each will cost around $6.3 million.
