Welcome to Hidden Civil Rights History, which explores often overlooked civil rights history in the Washington, D.C. region. My name is Gregg Ivers, and I am a Professor of Government at American University.
This chapter in my series is a bit different. I am sharing a photo essay on jazz and the civil rights movement that I have curated from my travels throughout the South, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. I provide this to students in my Jazz and the Civil Rights movement class that I teach each spring semester, and I thought it would fun to share it with the public.
