Probably because the British that were at Britain were still dealing with Napoleon at the time. Which was why only the British that was in Canada did the fighting in the War of 1812.
The Canadians had nothing to do with the burning of Washington. America tried to forcibly annex Canada, but it was British troops that burned Washington.
It ended because Napoleon was presenting a more terrible, troublesome threat that Britain realized it could not sustain fighting multiple wars on more than one continent.
The British were very busy at the time and the end of the war was aptly summed up with "Everybody's happy with the outcome of the war. The irony is the UK taught the US a valuable lesson...we would not be what we are today if we didn't wise up and realize that Europe and European colonization were a very real threat and we better start building a military that could hold it's own...100 years later EVERYONE in Europe knew that even the idea of attacking the US mainland was laughable...even the mighty British Empire knew it would probably lose Canada and it's entire Navy in the process...
2 things to note: It wasn't a massive war for Britain. Their focus was on the napoleonic wars. So yeah Americans should thank Britain because if they wanted we wouldn't have the USA that we have today
It wasn't really a massive war for the US either. The US sent a few thousand men into Canada, but that was about all. It was really a war about taking Canadian land, which the US did not have a realistic chance of succeeding in doing. The UK would've been hard-pressed as well to actually change any borders.

You limey’s make us laugh, I can name a few wars Britain started and ran away from, I mean you couldn’t even handle Napoleon alone. Why so specific lmao?
Wtf are you talkin about we are the uk not a state of such a horrible country of America
nah we messed our chance to annex canada
The irony is the UK taught the US a valuable lesson...we would not be what we are today if we didn't wise up and realize that Europe and European colonization were a very real threat and we better start building a military that could hold it's own...100 years later EVERYONE in Europe knew that even the idea of attacking the US mainland was laughable...even the mighty British Empire knew it would probably lose Canada and it's entire Navy in the process...
To be fair you were born out of British colonization, The British and the Americans were basically the same people fighting family at the time.
@@jason-gf8dg Yeah it was a civil war between citizens of England vs the military and citizens of England.
2 things to note:
It wasn't a massive war for Britain.
@@Jake-rs9nq you burned down canadian villages and got your capital burned your ports blockaded and had border conflicts lol imagine if it was a massive war then half of USA would be canadian nowadays, i love Americans logic, if we lost then it wasn't important, USA military story is pathetic and you must thank Britain for your "freedom" only reason Americans are still alive is because they are far from Europe and couldn't be conquered, struggled against the natives and the mexicans.

I live close to the Harry S Truman Presidential Library. It has on display old wooden support beams from the East Room floor that are burned and scorched during the 1814 fire. (Apparently, when they rebuilt the White House they tried to salvage as much material as possible.) Under Truman, of course, the White House was completely gutted and remodeled. New steel beams were installed in the 1940's to keep the White House standing for another 200 years. Some of the workmen gave President Truman a few of the burnt beams as a gift to his museum. They're fascinating.
And to think, the only reason this wasn’t repeated 187 years later was because a plane was 45 minutes late.
