The best thing about this song isn't even the lyrics, the performance, the artistry etc. It's the fact it's made such an insane uproar in the music community. It doesn't matter what your preferred genre is this immediately becomes relevant to anyone who hears it.
The support for Ren from reactors and vice versa is a whole different aspect. I've found so many amazing people on youtube just watching them react to Ren. (You included)

You said you didn't know how to react, that you were not qualified to do so.
Then you reacted exactly the same as everyone else who gets it - mesmerised, enthralled, riveted to the screen, holding back tears, stunned silence at the end.
Pretty much the perfect reaction, I'd say. You done good, man. Real good.

This is a masterpiece. Ren was bitten by a tick and got Lyme disease he was misdiagnosed for 7yrs and was treated for mental illness when they finally picked it up it had done a lot of damage. this all drove Ren into psychosis and is a raw, vulnerable ,heartfelt depiction of his experience . I think most people can relate to the inner dialogue even slightly. A very talented young man. He has a lot of work, Sick Boi and Chalk outlines with Chinchilla relate to his experiences. Ren does Rap, Reggae, Rock so many styles and has a band called The Big Push a clever and versatile artist.

Hi Doreen. I am 49yrs old yesterday...:) I have stumbled upon this genius of a musician, poet, rapper.....shamen....just a couple of days ago, and I have not been able to get him out of my mind......and thats a good thing. I don not suffer from mental illness, or auto immunity or (thankfully) anything that Ren is dealing with....but that doesn't matter, he seems to be channeling something incredibly deep within the human subconscious and it means A LOT to me....I feel something with this guy. Or super conscious godmind. I am literally in awe of this mans talent, and emotional depth transposed to music....be well Doreen Taylor.- Dave, from Seattle.

I'm 70 and have never in all my years been moved so much by a music video. One guy in a room with a guitar and it turns out to be a night out at the theatre! Loosen the noose on the rope... the brighter the light shines the darker the shadow it casts... the kind of lines I'd expect from Lennon Dylan Cohen Waits.
What an incredible performance on many layers.

I cried every time I watched this performance for the first month. And every time I watch it i discover new depths. There are so meny levels of detail in this. His brilliant guitar playing with subtle changes when he switch persona. How he switch in the blink of an eye his all being between different states of mind, facial expressions, body language. How the light flicker and go wild when the bad part of him is active and how is stays strong when he is in his good side. His literary skill, the wordplaybis impeccable and perfect in almost every aspect. You can't give this guy enough praise.
And you reacted exactly how everyone should react. This is a masterpiece and the message is so powerful there are no words that are correct to describe it. This is a message everyone should hear.

"I will never be the same after this song" - that's the Ren effect - he gets to the heart of us all like that and shines a light on our own demons and Darkness in such a way that instead of making us feel vulnerable for being exposed, we feel Empowered and Safer to speak about the things that were so taboo and felt shameful before. IMO he's a Celestial being who has opened a Portal through which people now feel safer amongst a Collective of other beautiful souls who all Rensonate and support each other. Welcome to the world of Ren and his people. Enjoy his vast catalogue that excels and surpasses and surprises in a myriad of genres and feels

“Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day.
Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on UA-cam are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.”
Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal.
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world.
Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).”
As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great.
"The Big Push" busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are awesome and well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive.
In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work.

This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome.
There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates.
As a person who’s never been able to escape imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that I *know* I have-was sooo important.
It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it.
*Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison.
You are *stronger* than that voice.
You are stronger than you can *possibly* know…
until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.

Its very touching seeing you taking the "subject matters" aspect seriously outside of acknowledging it as an Art. Because for me its the same. I do realize that it is a great music video, song and an art-form. But much more I am glad that at last this form of mental state of "divided personality" got this fantastic image and people can finally see what it is like and feel what it is like. This "thing" is hard to describe and even when people go visiting doctor they can not put into right words what they feel and what they are going through. Ren made a fantastic snap shot of this emotional and mental state and I am sure it will help thousands or millions of people.

The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will always be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a powerful piece of performance art that gives "broken" people HOPE. It's a beautifully raw musical masterpiece. Ren is special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking.

Also Hi Ren is definitely a masterpiece but his true masterpiece imo is The tale of Jenny and Screech (full). If you want to hear more of Ren I would recommend that one.

I have listened to this song over and over and cry every time. This hits home for me as my mother and uncle whom i was close with struggled with mental illness. Both of them took their own lives and devastated my world. This IS art, He is very talented and this is unlike anything i have ever heard. This subject cannot be touched enough since so many people in this world are hurting. This lets them know that they are not alone and to be strong.
Please share this and pass this to anyone and everyone even if you think they are not hurting. This needs worldwide recognition!!! Thank you ren for putting out this masterpiece!

I am a metal head too and I heard this and it changed my whole outlook on my own mental illness, you saying you are not entitled to say anything, i disagree this was a very thoughtful and compassionate reaction and I thank you for that. This is the kind of reaction, after seeing, it must be hundreds of Ren reactions, the kind of reaction that truly matters, as fans of Ren we cherish and thank you for your time in doing a reaction to a topic, that is as profound, powerful, and emotionally charged as this one is.

Dig your lights in the background btw.
You may want to watch Ren's "The Tale of Jenny and Screech" full version(Violet's Tale is the 3rd part) Pay close attention, big twist at the end.
Btw, I started listening to Metallica my freshman year in HS in 1982. I wore out my "Kill'em All" cassette. Got to see them live at Monsters of Rock in Houston Texas in 87 with the Scorpions and Van Hallen. Show was crazy good.

It's a masterpiece. The only thing I could even remotely compare it to was when I watched the video of Hurt by Johnny Cash. However, I was 23 when that came out. A whole lot has happened to me in those 20 years, good and bad. One of the bad things is the deterioration of my mental health. I've never connected more with anything else like I have with this.
Oh it has happened to him more than any human should have to bear.
I have heard this song at least 150 times and just cried again.

Liked and subscribed brother, truly thank you for sharing. This is the first time I've come across your channel, and I'm glad for it. Since I first saw this work of art in January, I may have seen close to 100 reactions to it, and while most are special in their own right, yours was one of the most authentic, heartfelt, and sincere.
This one kicks all of us in the gut, but it also opens up a place in the heart to be vulnerable and to self-assess without the overwhelming negativity that usually comes with that. It's like this song fills your heart so much that some of it spills over. It is a much needed cathartic release from some of our self-imposed burdens, if only for a little while.

Yeah this song gets me every time. I have had plenty of troubling times. I can very much relate to this song. I believe you, sir, are wrong about it now being your place to comment on this song. I believe this song is a gift from Ren, who might have bared his soul so that other may as well too. I think any human should have the right to talk this and should talk and share more. I believe that may be part of the reason for the problems of today. People who don't talk. People who feel alone in a world FULL of people. And I believe some modern stuff only makes it worse. Yeah, you can talk to people without even leaving your house now. Thousands if not millions of people, all on a little screen. But you are all alone. I don't think it's a good substitute for the personal touch. I could go on forever. But I thank you for the reaction video. This Ren really makes reaction videos true to their names. I have never seen such a reaction from virtually every reaction channel. I've seen metalheads and hard core rapper guys break down into tears. I've seen ones that would normally stop the video 50 times that didn't stop it, because they didn't feel it right to stop what he was saying. I've seen ones that normally have a lot to say at the end, who were absolutely speechless. It's just interesting. His song is just so easy to relate too. I believe everyone has an inner voice. Young, old, rich, poor, whether you had a supportive environment or your parents had you locked in the basement. Some people's voices are louder than others. And some, (off their meds) may see the person with the voice. See what I mean about going on forever? Thanks man, dig the channel!!

Hi. I'm new subscriber from this reaction. I could feel your heart. Creative people like ren have been few in my lifetime. Freddie mercury, sting, Kurt Cobain, David bowie, johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Elton John, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Elvis, Prince, Chester Bennington. You see my point, I can give you nostalgic memories of when I first heard each of those artists. I love all genres.
Ren having gone thru struggle has imo made him be a to truly see the human soul connection. It's important to appreciate life with all the good and bad. Recognize we are all going thru something. Music is emotion like a feeling of home to me. iT allows me to feel sad, happy, hurt, gratitude so many emotions. Feeds the soul. Ren is that artist of his generation that will stand out in music as a Great. Please check out Freckled Angels ( live) , chalk outlines with chinchilla ( live), how to be me ( live) you won't be disappointed but maybe a bit tearful.

He's not preaching a 'how to win' self help guide. It's His story, what He went through & how He deals with it.
Everybody is taken aback with his first bars using falsetto/head-voice at the beginning, but then you're almost singing along at the end reprise.
At the start his singing is so timid/tentative, like a little mouse peeking out & then his alter-ego immediately starts worming it's way in, putting him down and turning his every positive thought against him.
After he takes back control his singing is more assured/confident, even celebratory.
He acted the part so well for the video too - so timid & cautious - while his alter-ego was so sarcastic & clearly dominant.
The final monologue has everyone sitting still to hear every word and I think all the more powerful because it offers a measure of hope without a quick fix solution.
