This is such a piece of genius you are the 27th reviewer I've watched reviewing Hi Ren, still not got bored of listening to different takes by people who know something about music.
I had to go to my history and loom and I've watched near 50. My first reaction to this was recorded for me to post but I've been so enamored watching others react I've yet to edit and post.
I am 42 years old and i listen metal mostly but this shit man is dope af.His creativity and intellect left me speechless. This dude just delivered a piece of himself straight to us in a raw and genius way.Brilliant, just brilliant.
Wow this was incredible, the rapping, the guitar playing , the singing, the songwriting, the substance in the lyrical themes, the song writing and the damn spoken word at the end, progression at it's damn finest!
I've watched at least 20 reactions to this song. I really think that between this song and Ren getting some progress on his health, he's about to blow up. Such a great artist.
I appreciate you uploading this even though its not metal. Deathcore is my daily rotation but Ren is an absolute creative genius. I found him a few weeks ago and just blown away and I'm happy seeing his music blowing up!
Great reaction. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar over the past month; it went viral and garnered more than 2 million views in a couple of weeks. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of the subjects, experiences, and emotions expressed in his songs touch me on a very personal level because I can relate to and identify with many of his struggles. A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments. Ren is an incredible and unique artist; he plays multiple instruments, has great vocal ability, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. From what I read, his videos are generally shot live, all in one take by his friend. I recommend you check out some of his other work. The trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unexpected ending; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music video. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. As a solo act, Ren performs a range of genres, much of it hip-hop/rap influenced, as well as guitar-based ballads. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) and any of his performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren has impressive vocal and instrumental skills. He is one-of-a-kind and appears mature beyond his years. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 3-6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."
Bid respect also needs to.go to Samuel who shoots his videos for his talent and creativity. It looks simple, but it's not, especially to do it as a live single shot, which Ren and Samuel.always do. Recommend that everyone goes to Ren's YT channel, where all his music is available free, and experience his talent and diversity (pure rap to pop). Don't forget to show some love with a sub and some likes.

Ridiculously artistic. Music, emotion, acting, presenting. So different, so cool, so weird. I'm so confused........but I liked it! Thank you for exposing this, MetalBirb!
Entire performance. Cinematography, lighting switches matching characters, matching character voice with playing style at the switches, etc. The guitar playing sneakily very good, the time switches between the light and dark sides of his character seemed completely authentic as they were not always switching on even bars, etc. A video of that length goes by in the blink of an eye because everything is on point and fully engaging.
This is really cool you reacted to this man. I discovered this song by Ren a couple weeks ago and it grabbed my attention the whole way through. A powerful message alot of people can relate too.
haha I love how he starts out laughing and being weirded out but open-minded, talking over it a bit, making jokes, and then by the end of it he's just silent, not wanting to miss a word.
It touches you in your soul, and I am saying that as someone who has never had the challenges he and others face. It just reaches anyone with a heart. You can tell in the reactions to this song, many are left speechless, trying to find the words. Ren is so talented, after watching many of his other things, I just think he WILL be remembered . His vocals are unmatched, guitar, his words, writing, rap he is a poet and actor. He is amazing,. Check him out in band The Big Push when he was younger , and he collaborates with other singers, all around talent.
I'm on a bender tonight of watching people react to this performance. I was initially bummed out that yours was during a live stream as reactors have a bad habit of reading the comments and being too distracted by others to focus. So imagine my delight when three quarters of the way through, your face got serious and you stopped chatting and looking over at what people were typing - you got completely drawn in and I loved every second of that part. Ren is a such a fantastic and rare talent.
His style is quite eclectic (although he says he will make his current album purely hiphop), he was part of a rock band called The Big Push as well. He did not do any songs that can be labeled "metal" but he says he was influenced by nu-metal, RATM (check out Crucify Your Culture by him), Korn, SOAD etc. So maybe he will make some metal songs in the future. As for this one, I felt like this is kind of metal in a sense from the moment I heard it (his Tales trilogy too). I am myself an old metalhead (also usually listen to other guitar based music like rock, blues, punk etc.) and don't like rap, but love all of his catalogue. Found him out a couple of years ago and a big fan now :)
The next "one" to check out, is Jenny and Screech's Tale (Full), three short stories somehow connected. Amazing guitar playing and a huge cinematic masterpiece all around! 🤘
He has so much more. He sings beautifully, he loves rock, he raps ridiculously well. He is a part of a band in Brighton. Some other songs: Chalk Outlines. How to be me. Sick boi. Genesis. Power. Hunger. Losing it.
I've heard a LOT of reactions to this (as well as the official version lots of times). You are the FIRST one to mention the occasional 'intentionally sloppy" guitar work. My very FIRST reaction to the opening 'classical' portion was , "Wow... some of this is out of tune." Followed by, "But now it's IN tune... huh?" I am absolutely confident that Ren knew (knows) exactly what he's doing. I suppose that if it's intentional (for impact), then it isn't 'sloppy,' right? Unless he discusses the "out of tune" sections, I'm only guessing. I think it helps add to the feeling of chaos, and disjointed thoughts flying around. Anyway, very perceptive of you! Great reaction!
New sub, great reaction! Discovered Ren, 'Hi, Ren' about two weeks ago. Been stuck in a Ren rabbit hole since-The world has been blessed by this man. ❤️🔥 with love from TN
It was brilliant... We all go through these emotions, feelings, and battles. Towards the end you were intently curious to see where Ren was going with this song. Fun to see how people react to it for it really leaves an impression on the soul. I cried the first time I saw it and the 2nd time because I know that doubt and still know that doubt and yet it made me feel better. That is what music is all about. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it very much.
If your one of the lucky ones that have never suffered any kind of depression whatsoever, you will never understand how great this song really is. This song is going to help a lot of people get through.
everyone has suffered in some regard, even if you may not think they did. just like this song said, it's the hallmark of a human. let's not gatekeep suffering
@@grischad20 Anyone that keeps smiling like Metalbirb through this song really doesn't get it. And if you think everyone suffers from this, you don't know what suffering is. You're comparing a cold to brain cancer. That's not gatekeeping, that's ignorance on your side. I sincerely hope you'll never find out what suffering is.
Exactly 👍 Listening to Ren always brings you deep into the song. His music & vocals are out of this world. He is his own Genre - however the bipolar punk soul could work. This son is 9 mins but I never bore listening to all of it. Also, allegedly REN recorded this in one take. I believe it. You also hit the nail on the head about the brilliance of the Video. It is one of my favourites right now. If you like him go to UA-cam and follow his channel! Great review btw. U rock brother!

Thank you for appreciating Ren's story and song. I just "found" him in the past month or two and remain utterly blown away by the crafting of his lyrics, voice, personal challenges - the whole works. He's a gem.
Brilliant, sad😢, thought provoking, masterful … can’t stop listening and watching… look at Jenny’s tale, screech’s tale, then violet’s tale in that order- also live- it’ll blow your mind
Absolutely, I second every single thing that you said in this. You HAVE to react to The Tale of Jenny and Screech full. It's a whole different kind of MASTERPIECE.
I loved the live reactions. Subbed. Check out Ren's channel. Metal is my 'go to' genre, but I like to give everything a go. This does hit hard, hence its millions of views. He crosses genres and generations, and thats quite something to achieve. Original, even though the way it's done has been done before. Love Plan B and Eminem, has to be said.
All shot in one take. He is definitely a one in a generational talent. Definitely worth going down the rabbit hole that is Ren. He calls his style bardcore.
Sneaking in here for the first time - coming from Rens Rabbit Hole. Your reminder in Chat to eat more hittet different. xD Talked just yesterday with my husband about the fact, that I oft just eat once per day - in the evening.. xD haha. It's 11 AM here right now - lets try to have a little breakfast. x) Besides this - you definitly should check out more of Ren :D He will catch you in so many ways!
We are our own worst critics! This is relatable literally, metaphorically, internally, and within our circles, families, mentors, bosses, coaches, councilors, etc. It's so much fun watching others getting it, too, and getting their insights!
Thanks for doing this. It's my introduction to you. Gotta be honest though, most of the people in the chat were annoying. LOL... YOUR reaction was great though.
my connection to this song is only the similarity of struggle,, i'm undiagnosed autistic and have struggled with being a bit weird my whole life i had to start my own business because i had problems holding a job with sleep disorders and high ethics.. but managed to stay in business the last 40 years without needing to advertise or even carry a card, i run a lawn and tree service, a 1st responder thru 40 years of hurricanes in fla ,and do all phases of construction and kind of an inventor on the side, after six years of development i figured out a disaster response product that could help millions worldwide .. then my insurance agent forgot to post a payment back in 2020 and the state took everything i worked the last 40 years for away .. stuck at home like a prisoner i came online and saw people helping others so i started making videos explaining what i was. trying to do to get help, and found out if the platform your uploading to doesn't promote you your just talking to your phone, and then i see stuff like this and get jealous because i will never write a song that gets peoples attn like this. so my chances of bringing my ideas to the world are fading. and it's scary as hell to think of all that could be, but it may all be lost because one person forgot to hit enter on there keyboard.. and my chances of succeeding alone are close to those of getting out of quicksand alone..
One guy with a guitar giving 9 mins of brilliance live in a single take. Can't be anything but a 10. And it's not a flash in the pan, he's got a great catalogue of everything from pop to hard core rap. His genre is Ren.
If you're looking for a song that will have you captivated and mesmerized like this you should check out 'l'enfer' (hell) by Belgian superstar Stromae. You may not know him yet but he a Artist capitol A, Who (in French) has headlined coachella, sold out Madison Square 2x a few months ago, and performed Kimmel, Fallon and Colbert. His biggest hit is at 960.000.000 views on YT. All his epic videos Come with CC.
Okay little nitpick - it’s pronounced “KILLIAN Murphy,” not “Sillian Murphy” Ok that out of the way, this song is hard asf. It was like adding a guitar to slam poetry.

People seriously need to watch more of this gadges vocal, and performing art. GENUINELY, PLEASE ✌️
Erm can I change that to bewildered and in tears, gotta love a bust up phone, plus predictive. H🅰️h🅰️
Ren is brilliant. You should check out his new one Sick Boi
"Classical Bi-Polar Core". YES!
Thank you for appreciating Ren's story and song. I just "found" him in the past month or two and remain utterly blown away by the crafting of his lyrics, voice, personal challenges - the whole works. He's a gem.
You need to check out The tale of jenny and screech full version by Ren too
Brilliant, sad😢, thought provoking, masterful … can’t stop listening and watching… look at Jenny’s tale, screech’s tale, then violet’s tale in that order- also live- it’ll blow your mind
Absolutely, I second every single thing that you said in this.
You HAVE to react to The Tale of Jenny and Screech full.
It's a whole different kind of MASTERPIECE.
Nice one.
The guy is so diverse it's unreal, great talent
It’s like watching “Hamilton” for the first time. Broadway or Lin Manuel Miranda, someone needs to get Ren on the phone.
Bro you need to check out his street performance of the track Blind Eyes with Sam Tompkins. Absolutely incredible track!
Dude went for it and I dig it. I may never listen to it again but I'm glad I heard it.
That’s what I thought when I first saw this music video. I was in awe.
This is amazing
Phenomenal job for sure !
Just brilliant, can't stop watching it and reactions to it.
Great reaction man, great reaction👌👌
Smiling/laughing through this and sprinkling in your patronizing ok’s is telling
Check out the trilogy Jenny screech and violets tales in that order... and money game parts 1 amd 2
All shot in one take. He is definitely a one in a generational talent. Definitely worth going down the rabbit hole that is Ren. He calls his style bardcore.
Sneaking in here for the first time - coming from Rens Rabbit Hole.
Your reminder in Chat to eat more hittet different. xD Talked just yesterday with my husband about the fact, that I oft just eat once per day - in the evening.. xD haha. It's 11 AM here right now - lets try to have a little breakfast. x)
Besides this - you definitly should check out more of Ren :D He will catch you in so many ways!
Had to get high to listen to this again. Man the message at the end felt like my life in a nutshell. Crazy good.
Now know, what you just watched was done live, That was singing and playing in real time!
I’m on a year long Ren deep dive at this point and he never stops impressing me
Heads up! Ren also plays piano. Sam Tompkins & Ren Feeling Good/Trouble So High.
Ren also plays Piano.

You struggled in the beginning, but he got you...
Luv it
thomas shelby rips on the guitar
We are our own worst critics! This is relatable literally, metaphorically, internally, and within our circles, families, mentors, bosses, coaches, councilors, etc.
It's so much fun watching others getting it, too, and getting their insights!
Thanks for doing this. It's my introduction to you. Gotta be honest though, most of the people in the chat were annoying. LOL... YOUR reaction was great though.
I love how at minute 6, you totally were respecting and listening.
Loved this react ❤
my connection to this song is only the similarity of struggle,,
i'm undiagnosed autistic and have struggled with being a bit weird my whole life i had to start my own business because i had problems holding a job with sleep disorders and high ethics.. but managed to stay in business the last 40 years without needing to advertise or even carry a card, i run a lawn and tree service, a 1st responder thru 40 years of hurricanes in fla ,and do all phases of construction and kind of an inventor on the side, after six years of development i figured out a disaster response product that could help millions worldwide .. then my insurance agent forgot to post a payment back in 2020 and the state took everything i worked the last 40 years for away .. stuck at home like a prisoner i came online and saw people helping others so i started making videos explaining what i was. trying to do to get help, and found out if the platform your uploading to doesn't promote you your just talking to your phone, and then i see stuff like this and get jealous because i will never write a song that gets peoples attn like this. so my chances of bringing my ideas to the world are fading. and it's scary as hell to think of all that could be, but it may all be lost because one person forgot to hit enter on there keyboard.. and my chances of succeeding alone are close to those of getting out of quicksand alone..
Love your reaction 😂
❤🤟🤙 yes mate you should do Rens fisher 🤟🤙
I love how everyone gets surprised in the first half, then gets lost in the second half!
This is the song for 2023 it's hits so hard!
Alot of people in your live definitely didn't understand this song
Ren is killing it, you should react on jenny and screech tale as well!
It's like frank Turner went off his meds and I'm all for it
Okay little nitpick - it’s pronounced “KILLIAN Murphy,” not “Sillian Murphy”
Ok that out of the way, this song is hard asf. It was like adding a guitar to slam poetry.
Kind of blew my mind by now realizing it’s Killian haha
@@METALBIRB haha me too, that’s how I pronounced it for a long time
@Jack Mitchell I did too, but in Irish a "C" is always pronounced "K"
@@MadailinBurnhope yeah true
The fact you listened to it first and then spoke is very well done. I will watch again.
