does crucial p3 works in macbook air 2017? If you have upgraded.
bro, i love your content but i still think a external ssd is more suitable for dealing in mac
1). 128 gb will a waste . and can't be used as upgrade in pc or something
i still think a external one much better and save more money and can be used in other devices
2). efforts+cost for sata + internal ssd = 11,783
external ssd + no efforts 😜 = 10,999 (sandisk) cheapest one
still u did a great job in showing us another side of the force and i do appreciate that
Thanks bro. Hope you are subscribed. If not please show your support by subscribing to my channel.
Having an external ssd via usb 3.0 is a bit of an issue when editing videos as it slows down the render process. Also, there is the hassle of connecting an external drive anytime you need to access data. It's any day your preference, based on what you are comfortable with, you can choose that. Peace.

Hi @TheBeardedGuy, I hope this upgradation has helped you in increasing your storage. Just wanted to know of any kind of cautionary to attend to before or after doing the process. Although your video is brilliantly informative, some trusted sources have recommended to upgrade it above 512GB. Please compare pros and cons of this upgrade after 10 months of using this.
That's a pretty detailed question. And it's TheBeardedGamer. To answer your question, the upgrade has a lot of improvements over the original ssd. You get both more storage and speed. It might heat up slightly more than your original ssd but that again varies from person to person based on usage. After 10 months, the performance is still great, much better than the original 128gb ssd. If that answers your question, do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.

i will appreciate if u can tell more for how can i upgrade my (Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB) if possible 👍
No. Graphics upgrade is not possible. The only option is to have an external graphics setup connected through your MacBook's thunderbolt port. But that is super expensive. If you are into gaming, better setup a gaming rig.
Is the current Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB of my Macbook Air 2017 enough for league of legends?

The performance has been improved. The read and write speeds have increased almost twice. Do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
Thank you so much @TheBeardedGamer for this detailed explanation.
I have one question , " Are you getting any issues with your crucial ssd like "sleep mode" or any other issue . And i also want to put windows using bootcamp after upgrading ssd , is there will be any issue or would it be smooth like original ssd.
No issues with the ssd as long as it is a MacBook Air. Just a slight heating issue, only when you are doing performance intensive tasks like rendering and stuff. The sleep issue is common with the MacBook Pro.
And bootcamp has been seamless as well. In the beginning, there might be an issue with aligning the mouse clicks and the function keys but there are a lot of solutions on the internet to fix it. You can read through it or reach out to me after the upgrade.

Hi Buddy, thanks for the demo. This is clean and clear. Hi Avinash. It's great to see that you have done so much research before going for an upgrade. I also did a lot of research before going for the upgrade and I went through a lot of forums and seen people having done such upgrades for almost 4 years now without any issues. Even based on how well my device is performing, I don't think that should be an issue. You can go ahead with the upgrade as long as you are comfortable with it.
@@TheBeardedGamer2020 thanks Bro... this is really informative and will be upgrading to NVme

Hey, thanks for the video. Im also planning to upgrade my MBA 2017. But I'm having heavy load works like ios simulators, VMware, etc. Will there be any issues? What's your suggestion bro?
Hey Adhil it's great to know that you are planning an upgrade too. As far as heavy tasks go, it shouldn't be an issue as long as they were already working on the same processor, ram and graphics. The ssd upgrade will increase storage space and enhance file and simulator load times. As far as issues go the only one you would facr is a slight rise in temperature but that again is because you are getting about twice the performance boost. Do you think also changing ram from 8gb to 16gb would make a big difference in term of speed when using photoshop or should I already see a noticeable difference just by change the SSD. I am using a macbook air 2017 128gb
Hi Charles, it's great that you are upgrading your SSD and be rest assured that you will see a great deal of improvement in terms of performance. Coming to upgrading the RAM, that is not possible as it is soldered to the motherboard. The only upgrade possible is the SSD. Hope you have also purchased the adapter for the upgrade. @@charlesmichelpierr45 The usb is required for you to boot into MacOS recovery. As this is a new SSD that you are installing, there will be nothing on it. The bootable USB helps you get into MacOS recovery and access all functions. Post that you can either restore from a time machine backup or do a fresh install. It's entirely your choice.

hello, Thanks for the video it so helpful to everyone. I have one concern can you please clarify, changing MacBook Air with the new ssd does make my system too slow or little bit slow on comparison to apple verified ssd,.
Hi Rohit. I am happy that you liked it. Changing Macbook Air with the new SSD actually increases the speed compared to the Apple proprietary SSD. The Apple SSD has a speed limit of around 600 mb/s while the upgraded SSD will have speed of around 1300 mb/s. If I was able to answer your question, please show your support by subscribing to my channel and press the bell icon.
Would you please let me know how is it going along now? is there any small drawback to it which you found compared to the original ssd which was there already? Please help me decide :) Also do you suggest smthing else? maybe samsung evo ? Please let me know your overall experience once. That will help me a lot. Thanks in advance. :)
Hey Nikhil. There aren't any major drawbacks to the upgrade. There os basically one small issue, which is slight heating when you are doing any performance intensive tasks like video editing or rendering but that has to be there as read and write speeds have almost doubled. So slight heating with better performance is obviously a great deal. And about which ssd to use, you can go for either the crucial p1 that I have link to in the description or the Samsung evo, but both will have similar read and write speeds on the MacBook. So, there is no point paying extra when you get similar performance. Hope this answers your queries. Do subscribe to my channel and like and share my videos. I haven't faced any such issues yet and I don't think it is going to come up as well because the response I get when opening and closing the lid is exactly the same as before the upgrade. Hey Mohamed finding a case for the proprietary ssd is extremely difficult and the ones available are super expensive. You can actually buy a 1 TB external ssd or even more at that cost. Yeah, Crucial P3 should work with the MBA 2017 with the adapter. But I would recommend using P1 or P2 as they are more VFM for this upgrade. The max speed for MBA is capped at around 1300-1600, so why spend extra money on a 3500 mbps ssd when you can't even utilize it. Again, your choice, just a recommendation. @@TheBeardedGamer2020 Yes sure, thank you very much. Another question, I saw a lot of people first install the macOS on an external hard drive then do the Time Machine Backup after installing the macOS.
But what you did, is the same way that I wanted --> Restore Time Machine without installing it from the first, So is this the same way and gonna give the same result without installing macOS on an external hard drive?
@@nooreldiensoltan1419 Yes. But you would additionally need the bootable drive. That's it.
Hi!! I've got a question. I have windows bootcamp as well. In this case how should I do it? after formatting the new ssd I should partition it and install mac from time machine in one side and then with a bootable windows recovery flash drive install the windows backed up imagine in the other partition? or do you have another way?
Nope. That's the only way to go. Do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
Will the adaptor work only for macbook or can i use it on windows laptop i have 2242 ssd port i couldn't find 2242 ssd so i am thinking of using 2280 nvme ssd instead
hey can you tell how your mac is holding up rn? I read in a forum that using an adapter aint good for a mac and also crucial p1 gets slow once you load it up with stuff.
It's running perfectly fine. Hasn't slowed down yet. Installed windows, doing video editing and rendering, no issues. Heats up a bit more than it would normally but that is normal as it is running at higher speeds. But apart from that all good.
Hello,
This was a very useful video but I have a question.
Do you have by any chance informations on the SSD type of the original samsung 128GB SSD ? What key it has for exemple ?
Cause I have the same Mcbook air as you and I'm currently looking for an external ssd reader but in order to chose the right one I have to be sure of what type of SSD I currently have.
Thank you :)
The 2017 Macbook Air has a 12+16 pin connector which is proprietary to Apple SSDs. So if you want an external reader, you can search for something like Apple Macbook SSD enclosure or something in those lines. In the specifications of the enclosure just check the compatibility with your model or if it has a similar connector. Is there any upgrade in boot time and other tasks like opening a browser or any other do they take less time or more time as compared to the original Apple ssd and one more question. Did is affect the battery backup ?
The most important part of this upgrade process was the storage upgrade and 1 TB is a major upgrade in itself. Coming to performance there are slight improvements over the proprietary Apple SSD because the read and write speeds are better. And since the performance has been increased a bit it is quite obvious that the battery backup will reduce a bit simultaneously. But nothing major. but in the video the disck speed app opens faster in original the Apple hd
Thanks a ton for the detailed instructions. Do I need adaptor for the samsung 970 EVO Plus SSDs you mentioned on the link?

Hi
My macbook air is of early 2014, will it be compatible?
- what is the difference between Samsung, Crucial & OSCOO ? Do they all come with warranty ? Which is better ?
- OSCOO doesn't require an adaptor ? How to attach a adaptor to SSD?
- Do we need to take back up of the data on an external HD before changing it and do we need to reinstall MAC IOS ?
- is there are way on increasing the RAM also or is it soldered ?
I jus did it but somehow SSD is not appearing. What to do now ?
Did you use the exact same process and the same components?
thats why i like indian guys a lot... bro why did you buy the adapter btw? can you make a video on cleaning macbook air fan??
Thanks man. The adapter is required as the MacBook Air comes with proprietary ssd that has its own connectors. The adapter acts as a converter for nvme ssd converter to mac proprietary connectors. I would definitely make a cleaning video the next time i open it up. Do subscribe to my channel and share it with your friends to show your support. Peace. 👍🏽🙏🏽
Thank you buddy, that was helpful. I have a MCB Air 2017/18 model.
1. Would I need the adapter even if it is 2017/18 model?
2. Can I not boot the OS from internet recovery?
Thanks in advance.
This one is the 2017 MCB Air. If you have the same one, you can follow the same steps. But, if you have the 2018 model then you won't be able to upgrade as both the storage and RAM are soldered to the motherboard.
As far as booting the OS from recovery, yes, you can do that as well. I made a bootable usb because I had one lying around.
TheBeardedGamer thanks. Yes I have the same MacBook 💻 with Samsung removable SSD inside.
Would the adapter be still required?

Hi there! Thanks for the detailed instructions; I just have a question about the bootable installer. In the video, it looks like you just did a time machine backup and that worked. I’m not sure what the bootable installer is for, do I need that if I plan on doing a time machine backup to USB instead?
Hey theena, the bootable installer works as a temporary OS for you to access the disk utility. Since, you have a new SSD and it doesn't have any OS and it is not even formatted in the Mac format, you need an interface to interact with your Mac. So, even if you have a TimeMachine Backup you need the bootable installer to access it. You don't need to install MacOS from the installer but you do need it to restore from your TimeMachine Backup. I hope I was able to answer your question. Do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.

@@TheBeardedGamer2020 hi, I encountered a problem with the time machine backup USB. When I tried to restore the time machine backup, instead of a date of last backup showing up, a blank row showed up, and when I tried to continue, the computer asked me “are you sure you want to restore the [disk name] to its snapshotted state from (null)?” I’m not sure what went wrong, is my time machine backup corrupt?
Never mind! I ended up installing new macOS instead of backing up from time machine, and then upgraded the OS to Big Sur. Now I’m restoring my time machine backup using Migration Assistant and hopefully it works. Thanks again for all your help!! :)
Hello, thans for the video! Congratulations, very well explained! I tried the same process using a Kingspec SSD and a small adaptator in the same macbook air (2017, A1466). During 2 days the laptop worked perfectly, but after that period my macbook air stopped recognizing the Kingspec SSD. The SSD's working perfectly and the adaptator too, but my macbook air doesn't recognize them. Do you some suggestion? What could be the problem? thanks!
I have seen this problem come up with the small adapters. Sometimes they don't even work and sometimes they work for sometime and then stop. So there is a good chance that the adapter could be the issue.
Hey André, Could you fix the problem? Is your Mac working with the new ssd now? If yes, how could you fix it? thanks in advance.
@@mch9739 Hi, Howdy? I couldn't fix the problem. I've tested 2 different adaptators, but it seems the real problem is the Kingspec SSD. I'm looking for a new one, I got some recomendations about brands like Crucial or Intel. Probably I'll buy an Intel P1. I'll share new informatoisn when I try thE neW combo.
Go for the Crucial P1. Tried and tested.
@@TheBeardedGamer2020 I have also Macbook air A1466 Model (Early 2015) with 256gb SSD, Will that Crucial P1 work in my case, Does any additional adapters requires for it? I have also heard news that A1466 this model motherboard did not support more than 512gb SSD. Can you confrim this?

Thanks bro nice content. Does the macbook air 2017 support crucial p5 500gb? Is there any issue if I use another nvme adapter?
Thanks bro. The MacBook air does support the Crucial P5 ssd but why do you want to pay more for the same read and write speeds? I know the read and write speeds are different on different SSDs, but when you put it into the MacBook Air, the max speed you will get is similar, though more than the proprietary Apple SSD. It is all about choice. If you want to buy a more expensive product for the same performance, it's upto you. And, as far as the NVMe adapter goes, the one I am using hasn't shown any issues. But, I have heard a lot of complaints from people who have tried using cheaper alternatives. It might work for you, but I wouldn't take responsibility. But the parts that I have used and have links in the description, will work for sure.

Thanks bro for the reply. I usually need higher rwad and write for the development simulations. That why I look forward with p5. In their website its showing 3000 speed rate while p2 is having only 2000. So when it's on max both gives same speed rate?
@@adhilazeez6039 With the NVMe adapter that is available, the read and write speeds are going to be almost similar. The P1 Nvme ssd has read and write speeds upto 2000, but in the Mac the max speed is around 1300. This is twice the speed of the current Apple proprietary ssd, so speeds shouldn't be an issue. Even if the p5 has 3000, I don't think it is going to give speeds of more than 1500-1600. But, then again, I haven't used it. But from experience with the P1, I am quite sure that the speeds will be limited. So, you can go ahead and make a choice, a lot more money with slight improvement in performance or a value for money upgrade.
Thanks bro. A great advice from you 👍👍👍 Gonna purchase p1 😁

What type of ssd does the macbook air a1466 use? Is it m.2, m.2 nvme, msata, pci express x4 What are the exact specs and sizes of compatible ssds that i can buy for my macbook air a1466? Can i upgrade to an ssd with lets say 2 tb of memory? A lot of videos and forums that i see only show people upgrading to a max of 1tb memory. I been out the game for a while so I’m catching up lol
The MBA a1466 uses M.2 nvme PCIe x4. For the exact products that you can use, I have added product links in the video description. About the 2TB ssd, the MBA supports upto a maximum of 1 TB. That is the reason you see upgrades of only upto 1TB. And, since you have such detailed questions, means you are still in the game. 😉 Reach out to me and I will help you with the process. ✌️

Sir i have Macbook pro 15’’ retina mid 2014 can i use crucial with this same adapter. Will it work ?
The replacement process will be slightly different based on placement of connectors and screws but to answer your question, yes you can.
