SWCP Day 34 Wembury to Bigbury 4K

- The day has arrived where I need to tackle the Erme. With tide times in my favour I set off on a comparatively easy walk to Warren point and across the Yealm before more easy walking along Revelstoke Drive on towards Stoke. From Stoke the walk becomes more of a familiar coastal path with a few hills to climb before reaching Mothecombe and the Erme. Safely across the Erme and feeling quite pleased with myself I soon discover this walk has a sting in its tail presenting 3 steep ascents in quick succession just before reaching Bigbury.

Paul, Lorraine from Australia here. Pam’s friend. Absolutely loving these videos. Takes me back to all the places we went with my Mum and Dad when we were kids. Fabulous - thank you.
Congratulations on completing the 26!!!
Hi Lorraine. Pam said she had been telling you about my walk. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed them and that they have bought back fond memories for you.
Fabulous section of the route and very well presented. Great film, nice one fella. 👍
Thanks mate. It was nice to get back to the hills after leaving Plymouth.
Great video Paul, also the music and drone shots. You really bring the walk to life with points of interest and info about the trail. I rate your presentation style as good as many shot by professional crews and shown on TV!
Thanks for that, very kind.
Another brilliant video paul the shots over the Erme whilst you were crossing is were amazing
Thanks very much for posting this great video
Thank you Brian. Glad you enjoyed it.
Well done Paul ,,good luck on your next big walk Stewart Wiltshire 🏃♂️🍦⛺️👍
Hi Stewart. I’ve just got back from 3 days on the path. Bigbury to Brixham. Videos to come soon.
Another very well shot and informative video Paul. Great to see you back!
Thanks Ross
Enjoyed that Paul. Linda has persuaded me we need to start on the SWCP doing a few days at a time so will be watching yours again from the start!
That’s great news. You’re used to hills so you’ll be fine 🤣
brilliant video ,really enjoyable
Thank you Phil
It's no good you telling everyone how far this section was, when you must've walked another mile positioning the camera to film and then had to walk back to collect it again ... and often on some seriously steep hills too!! Great stuff again Paul. I'm glad you found the bench above Ayrmer Cove even if the midges got there first. I remember that very seat as I left my father and partner sitting on it whilst I walked to the mouth of the Erme and back to tick off a missing section. Doing those hills twice and at speed because I knew they were waiting for me was the workout of my life 😅
🤣 well actually the mileage and ascent given at the end is what I did that day, so if others followed they would actually do slightly less than what I declare. I was very disappointed not to be able to rest at that bench. I really did struggle on that climb 🥵
I bet they didn’t mind waiting there for you, it was a nice spot.
Great and beautiful video as usual. Good to know about walking times across the Erme estuary. One really has to adjust the walking plan to fit that. And wow these hills look strenuous 😮😊
Yes it’s important to plan this section or else you have to wait hours for the tide to turn or get a taxi around but that would be expensive.
@@pilgrimpaul7798 I am member of the SWCP Association so I get a new book each August with included timetables also for the next year. So it is possible to plan my holiday around my need for the tides 🙂 I did that regarding reaching Kynanze Cove at low tide in 2022, and planned when I had to leave from Norway and do the walking days from Penzance before reaching Kynanze cove. And it worked perfectly. I just have to remember that these time tables are not adjusted for Daylight Saving time. Travelling form Norway means that we have to do the bookings many months ahead of travel. 🙂
Another great and well put together video Paul. I love seeing aerial footage of coasts and your drone footage just enhances your output. 11 out of 10 from me. Well done mate. Looking forward to the next one.
Very kind. Thank you.
I've seriously forgotten about those hills. Been over a year since we did that section.
Crazy how time disappears. When I look back at some of my earlier sections I find it incredible that so much time has passed.
Thanks PP. Another beautifully shot and produced video. Your drone shots really show the true majesty of coast path 👏👏
Cheers Mark. I love getting the drone up when time and weather allow.
Yer nice walk, if you get the river crossing low tide wrong 😂 can you head inland and how far ? Then back onto the path ?
Yes you can but it adds 8 miles to your walk. It’s best to try and plan you start/finish times for the days leading up to this section in advance so that you reach the Erme not far from low tide.
Hi Paul,
Very much enjoy watching your videos .. I am walking the SWCP as well, and am getting prepared to hit the trail once again.. 1 issue is the Erme. The tide times are against me when I’ll be attempting, would you say there is possibility to wild camp should it be necessary entering into Mothecombe/area before the crossing? Thank you for any recommendations .. 😊
Hi Diana. Ah yes I remember having that dilemma and trying to plan my timings just right. I know people have camped on a flat grassy spot just before the crossing at the entrance to Meadowsfoot Beach. If you use the what3words app, the reference is swimmer.awake.compacts
@@pilgrimpaul7798 thanks Paul.. will have a look!
Is there a reason you did this section of the SWCP dressed as a kindergarten kid on a day trip?!?😂
🤣
