  • Its late Autumn and I am back on the SWCP. Todays walk picks up the trail from Padstow and ends at Porthcothan. The sea is the star of this walk and provides a demonstration of its power and ability to sculpt the coast, it really is easy to see why the coast is continuously changing. Along the walk we take in Stepper Point, Trevone Bay, Harlyn Bay, Mother Ivey's Bay, Booby's Bay, Constantine Bay, Treyarnon Bay before finishing with Portcothan Bay.

Thank you. Yes the sea was so rough that day. A constant deafening noise for the entire walk. It was more impressive in person.

Just did this walk today - it's amazing how different the experience was from doing this section in August compared to your November walk. No mud and rain for me and loads of people on the beaches.

Oh wow yes there were some very wet parts in November. I remember thinking the beaches must be very popular in the summer as they were beautiful.

Wow, another awesome video, thanks Paul. Now I had an idea, I do voluntary work operating a VR system for Hospice, gives those in their closing months an opportunity to get fully immersed in a 360 3D experience, like a tour of Rome or Venice they they will never be able to do for real. So I just want you to start back at the beginning, take a 360 3D 12K camera and press record !! No pressure!. But seriously if anyone out there fancies do this let me know. btw just trying to place your accent - south Dorset ? Cheers Phil

Hi Phil, that’s a great concept. It must be very humbling. I would love to have done this for you, but I don’t think my bank balance or legs would thank me if I had to start from the beginning again. You could try posting on the South West Coast Path Facebook group facebook.com/groups/1580784368659585/?ref=share
There are always people planning to start the path and maybe someone on there could help. Or maybe we could pretend the path starts at Newquay and I’ll just start filming for you from there 🤥. Thank you for watching and commenting. All the best Paul. Oh and I am originally from Plymouth, South coast of Devon.

Absolutely amazing 🤩. I also loved the drone shots, especially over the Padstow / Doombar area. And I was almost hypnotized by the waves. They are so great and merciless and still very beautiful. You did a good job in bringing the corrupt files back to life! 👍 I have walked there myself, August 2018, in warm and sunny weather. I very much appreciated to see it now in very different conditions. Thank you 😊👍🏻

I loved the footage of the sea crashing - just beautiful! The sea at my place is often glassy smooth so it is nice to see the dramatic waves.

What a pleasant surprise - I wasn't expecting any more till next year. I would love to do it in all seasons - easier in the warm I guess but every time has it's own drama. Thank you for producing this series btw, really nicely done and even the daleking didn't detract - although I was disappointed that you didn't exterminate something!

Another beautifully recorded section of the path Paul. I love the way you stop to appreciate all the beauty and points of interest along the way, even when time is short. You are doing more than simply walking the whole path to tick it off; you really seem to take in all that it offers along the way and share it with us. I particularly admired the way you showed that ghastly muddy patch near the start and then filmed yourself walking through it, which meant you had to endure the mud not once, but 3 times after fixing the camera up somewhere. Well done you, haha! Oh, and I THINK you captured a chough flying and calling behind you as you approached Porthcothan - right at the 24.30 mark?! Great stuff!!!

Hi Sue. I love reading comments like this, it makes my day. I am so glad you liked it. I try to take it all in and appreciate what I am seeing. I often think to myself that I may never be at these places again and so I need to try and see everything whilst I am there. Thank you for pointing out the Chough. I saw one previously towards Crackington Haven. It’s good to know they are returning to Cornwall.

Nice one Davros! This was one of my top 5 favourite sections when I did the walk, but the seas were not so dramatic in June! Really is a stunning stretch of the cornish coastline, brilliantly captured with that drone of yours! Lack of daylight also adding to the jeopardy. Well done fella, now go and treat your missus! Atb.

Not sure how a Dalek would cope on the SWCP!! I think I would have enjoyed this even more in the summer as those beaches were beautiful. Have you got any walks planned?

What a perfectly wonderful area to go for an explore! Fantastic! Pretty hard to beat a coastal area for sure...a little biased I think being from Nova Scotia which is pretty much surrounded by the Atlantic! Got to be careful around the crashing waves...but agree, can watch them for hours! Lovely natural bridge and great drone footage! Thanks for the explore...Bruce and Otis

Hi Paul. I almost binge watched this as my own plans have been on hold for about 2 years now. Still, the hiatus has given me time to consider a what kind of 'action cam' to buy for such a trip. Any recommendations based on your experiences? Don't want to lug a big camera around! Thanks

    • @pilgrimpaul7798

Hi Chris. Hopefully you will be able to start your walk soon. I use a GoPro Hero 9 with the media mod and the directional mic. The media mod and directional mic help protect from some of the wind noise, but I am looking to upgrade my audio and perhaps buy the rode wireless go. I am happy for the moment with the GoPro. It shoots in 4K has a good battery life (1 battery will last a day for me), it is waterproof without the need for any separate housing, it’s small enough to fit in my pocket. It does have a slightly unresponsive touch screen which is a common complaint with this model, it does very occasionally freeze and you need to remove the battery to reset it. There are other action cameras such as the Insta 360 or the DJI Osmo, but I have no experience with them. Any questions give me a shout. Thanks for watching.

@@pilgrimpaul7798 Hi Paul. Thanks for the info. I thought I recognized the 'Hypersmooth' stabilization. I agree that a wireless mic is the way to go for audio and I wish that companies like GoPro, DJI etc would either standardize or open up their interfaces to accessory providers. Attaching the wireless Rode wireless Go will entail a 3 stage power on process; transmitter, receiver and then GoPro. Why can't the GoPro power them all up - they're all connected after all. Instead they force you to go in via an analog connector on their $100 mediamod accessory. Frustrating.

    • @pilgrimpaul7798
      @pilgrimpaul7798  2 роки тому +1

I think you answered your own question there. The reason they don’t open up to third parties is because we then have to purchase the media mod. The hyper smooth feature is very impressive and is a big plus for the camera.
