Kevin big up bro, the exact same thing happened to me 3 years ago. didn't know I was having a heart attack for nearly 8 hours, finally phoned an ambulance, they wired me up, I was sweating, nothing Else. They said your having a heart attack, cardiologist put a stent in me, then said: have got had a heart attack before? I said no, not that i know of, he says well that's strange coz the other side of your heart is dead!!!!! turns out I had had one 2 years earlier and never knew so I never sought medical help. Glad your still here bro, and much respect for sharing the word, Coz they don't tell you this shit, and people need to know the symptoms of heat failure!
I'm 49 and overweight. I appreciate Kevin talking about this because I would have never thought it was a heart attack. He's lucky he had people around him. Me? My family is a asleep right now and I'm watching UA-cam. If I started having the same thing as Kevin, they'd just find me dead in the bathroom in the morning.

i lost my dad to a heart attack almost 3 years ago to the day. he was 50 years old. take care of your health people, my dad called my mom and said the exact same thing kevin did; sweaty and couldnt catch his breath
Yeah the exact same thing happened to my step-dad but he also had a weird tingling in his right or left arm. Luckily my mom instantly called the ambulance just to be sure and as soon as they arrived he had a massive heart attack. he lost about 15% function of his heart but he luckily survived.
Sorry to hear that. But definitely, everyone should take care of their health. Be vegan and reduce your chance of heart disease along with so many other ailments by a huge degree.
my dad had a widowmaker 2 yrs ago and survived. He is not overweight at all. He loved his ice-cream every night. My pops had symptoms for months if not a year before, but never went fully down. He drove himself to a cardio Dr and after 15mins of basic test, they had him in an ambulance. Very Scary
I watched this video about 6 weeks ago. Then lived it shortly after. Mine was congestive heart failure & the similarities were huge. Thank you for telling the story. I had no symptoms and was under a doctor's care for asthma and my diabetes was controlled. Your story played in my head. Thank you for your leadership. I am still in jeopardy.
I'm happier as a vegan, since I've lessened my negative impact on the world, overall. Besides, there are SO MANY delicious vegan foods (at least in the "Western First World") nowadays, with more and more choices every year.
The EKG machine that the paramedics use to monitor the heart rate will tell them if the heart beat is abnormal. It will also attempt to diagnose the type of abnormality, such as a STEMI. The medics are trained not to tell the patients these findings because the added stress could just make the heart attack worse. That's why everyone was so cool.
cybersphere Yep, and before anyone tries to dis' you here in the comment section, that's ST elevated myocardial infarction. Thanks for bringing knowledge here! 🙌
Wow my friend had the same thing a 2 weeks ago. He was out of breath for a few days and one afternoon he couldn't catch his breath enough to eat dinner. I took him to the hospital waited for the results and the doctor told him the exact same thing. They starflight him 300 miles in a helicopter immediately to a heart surgeon hospital. He put a tube in my friends leg and fished it up to his heart to open that splint valve. He lost about 50lbs and just cane home. It's amazing that we have this technology to save lives that 20 years ago, you'd be dead no doubt.
I had the same thing, 100% occluded LAD. On the third and final attempt, the doctor was able to clear the clot and place two back to back stents in the artery. It's a crazy thing to know 80% of the people who have such a heart attack don't even get to the hospital before they die.
Many of us guys will avoid doctors / hospital like the plague - i passed out several times during 2015, woke back up and never went to the hospital, was short of breath all year, never went. I was a complete idiot, finally passed out at the end of that long weird year and thankfully finally went to the emergency room. Had to have heart surgery , 2 weeks in the hospital. One of the doctors there said that when i recovered fully i'd be stronger, wow it's true. I'm so much stronger than before it's amazing . I was an idiot, we are often idiots
I don't think that people are necessarily idiots, but, perhaps, they feel so ashamed of themselves that they avoid facing their problems head on. And when they do such things chronically, they end up neglecting issues that they should have long taken care of. Kevin Smith, for example, kept talking about how he was ashamed of his body and didn't want anyone to see him or inspect him. Likewise, that's probably what led Kevin to his obesity in the first place. He coped through overeating or drinking too much milk. In short, many neglected health problems are rooted in psychological problems. Self-awareness is thus key to stopping such issues before they happen.
A doctor gave me a 75% chance of dying over the 2-3 days when I was like 23. It’s a trippy thing to be told. I had a wicked blood infection plus I had a litre of pus in my chest, a half inch or so of my sternum bone was infected (like dead) a bunch of the surrounding tissue and muscle was also infected. The doctors fixed me up good tho n now I’m 25 n still kicking strong. Much respect to the medical community
As a nurse I understand all about the LAD and 100% occlusion and what he's talking about, but I'm so happy they called the ambulance and he's alive. Jesus, I grew up to Jay & Silent Bob. Very few celebrities hurt me when they pass away. Kevin Smith would have been one of them.
Rachel Sanders pretty dumb dude, fat itself only leads to a higher rate of heart disease once youre solidly obese not overweight or anything, it mainly has to do with diet. You can definitely be fat on a healthy diet, and you can definitely have terrible cholesterol when youre in the normal weight range
@@ImKittyCow .....you're an idiot congrats. Im a fat woman but at least i can admit that being overweight or obese greatly increases you're risk of cardio vascular disease.
shit, judging from what he described I think I had a heart attack a couple months ago. Couldn't catch my breath, drenched in sweat and freezing but I had a little numbness. I just thought I drank too much the night before so I slept it off and drank a lot off water. I should probably go see a cardiologist.
This shit scared the crap out of me. As a touring artist, I have spent many of weekends up for 48-72 hours at a time just putting in work for the next gig. Man, I have felt similar symptoms so many times. I am definitely finding a cardiologist immediately, just to be safe.
The leads they put on his chest, that is called an ecg (electrocardiogram). It measures the electrical pulses in the heart. What they probably saw is considered an elevated t wave, it is the sign of an MI. Also you have common signs of an MI, but everyone can present differently. Anytime you are sitting or lying still, you are short of breath and diaphoretic (excessive sweating) but you haven't done anything strenuous, that is a good sign you need to go to a hospital because something isn't right.
Ive had what they call a grandma seizure. All i remember is sticking my head in a freezer cause i was hot, then dark blackness,no feeling,no thoughts,no anything. Then woke up standing up in a doorway being shook by a firefighter. I was lucky my stepdad who was a police officer for 25 years knew what to do,and did cpr on me,i was unconscious for 4 mins, turning blue. And he saved me.i still get emotional just thinking of it. Life is precious, enjoy it and treat others the best you can
My uncle just got life saving surgery on his widowmaker artery. It was 99% clogged, the doctors said he had three days to live. Life is fucking fragile man
I know I'm worried about the possibility of a heart attack. I've been on a fitness mission this year (I call it a fitness resurrection) and have completely changed my diet. Lean meats, steamed veggies and oatmeal are at the core, but I definitely work in a lot of other stuff. As a result I've dropped over 100 pounds since January with another 100 pounds to go. I just turned 40, so I know if I didn't do something when I did, it would have only been a matter of time before I had a heart attack.
I want to encourage you and persuade you to keep going and keep exercising. I'm 40 as well and am feeling the need to "resurrect" my exercise due to shortness of breath and chest pains. I'm not overly fat, but I do not exercise. Being 40 has an interesting perspective, if you're not taking care of yourself. I sounds like you know what I mean.
He is very lucky that the people around him had the good sense to actually call 911 even while he was saying that he was okay. That saved his life for sure, along with having a really good doctor who performed the surgery of course, but man, he would've died if an ambulance hadn't been called by his friends.

thankfully when it all went down i was on unemployment and somehow had state medical insurance... i get the bills that they cover so i know how much it costed.... with my surgery last October my bills would have been over 100k at this point...
Kevin Lee - In general, chiropractic services range from approximately $30 to $200 per session. Of course, each type of treatment has a different cost. An ambulance company, On average, will charge anywhere from $350 to as much as $2,000 for a trip without insurance. The average EKG cost will be anywhere from $200 to as much as $2,000 without any type of insurance (That's not counting the price for the initial doctors appointment, where, in most cases, people start out by getting a check up [ie Talking to a doctor, getting weighed and having your temp and blood pressure checked], witch would be, at the very least, $130 without insurance.) The nationwide average for a EKG is about fucking dollars $800. ... Boy, do we funkin' need "single-payer"/"Medicare for all"!
Ill NEVER forget falling out of a tree. I smashed on the ground and heard a snap. My parentss and siblings said it was a precaution and not to worry. Probably nothing. No. My knee bone was outside of me. No one said a thing and pretended it was nothing until i got to the er and surgery.
I dropped folks...I made it back....Take care of the ticker..Yes, fast food is FAST...often cheap...but loaded with bad stuff...Go once a week...not 17 times a week...Be well, Kev...
I always enjoy interviews with Joe Rogan...he asks serious questions and always has something to contribute. It's sad to see what a toll something so trivial as junk food can take on the human body. I am glad that Kevin Smith is doing better now. Thank you for putting out good content Mr. Rogan!
Happen to my Dad a couple weeks ago, he didnt make it tho. Wanted to watch clerks to distract myself, completely forgot about Kevin having the same thing. To anyone who survived that you are blessed.
12 lead EKG: Leads: V3, V4 (sometimes V1, V2) with ST segment elevation. Also reciprocal changes in the inferior leads. Anterior Wall Myocardial Infarction. Left Anterior Descending Artery (LAD) occlusion. That’s how he knew. 👍🏻
I’ve seen that procedure done. Its something to watch. A lady had a similar situation with a bp around 90/50 and whenthe stent was placed, immediately her bp shot yo to 120/80. Awesome stuff
When we interpret an EKG with a standard 12 lead we can identify cardiac arrhythmias, then we can move lead v4 to the patients back under shoulderblade and it can reveal right sided arrhythmias(called '15 lead'). They have introduced 17 lead EKGs with the new models of monitors but it will take time for them to become industry standard. Protocols vary but nitro is always contraindicated when systolic pressure is below the 90-100 zone and with right sided heart arrhythmias(moderately uncommon making up around 20% roughly) nitro is essentially instant death but nitro would normally have been contraindicated. Normally... Some stick to the classic Morphine Sulphate, Aspirin, Oxygen(nitro unless excluded) but we have protocol updates and use Fentanyl, Aspirin, Oxygen(nitro unless excluded). We generally do not tell patients they are having a "heart attack" for two reasons...those are made up words for the layman, and stress needs to be avoided, but if asked we will tell you. Now technology allows us to transmit a patient's EKG, Oxygen saturation, End Tidal Waveform Capenography, & BP directly to the hospital while we are enroute. Kevin needs to thank his assistant...then buy them a fucking car because they got him help in time...he would have died. *There is currently a nationwide shortage of Morphine with most services back ordered 1 year ...or longer. Fentanyl has stepped in its place also it does not have the same vasodilative side effect of Morphine*
What's amazing is that he'd have been fine in New York or Nashville. Vanderbilt also has one of the best cardiology wings in the country. I wish he knew that to realise either way, he'd have been in good hands.
1911 is when crisco developed crystallized cotton seed oil. *In the ‘80s action movie Al Powell references trans fats as “partially hydrogenated oil” Even if it says 0 trans fats the FDA allows up to .5 grams of trans fats per serving in a product. Glad you are well Kevin.
My step sisters friends brother dying from a fatal heart attack at 39 was what prompted me to start making drastic changes to my lifestyle, diet, sleep routine, caffeine and drug intake, taking of vitamins and supplements. I'm 31, and my biggest fears in life are dying from a heart attack or stroke because of the randomness of the event. It's your own body killing you, with virtually no warning signs, you could just be minding your own business going about your day then boom your dead, and any steps I can take to help prevent that I am going to take ten fold
I come back to these vids every now and then, I still love Kevin's brutal honesty about this. Even when dieing was on the table, he was still like "Dont take my shirt off like that" 😂 When you are overweight, it's the only thought... all the time, all day long.
I can relate to K.S I’m the same when I’m ill I go off on my own and curl up into a ball and hate people trying to help me, I’m like just shut up and leave me alone
Hey, Kevin. So glad that you beat the odds. With great comic book 📚 power comes equal lateral responsibility. Good on you for embracing the way forward. My dad died of the widow maker. 80% was his best bet ever. He always said to me that he wanted to live to see the year “2000.” Born in 1933, an ambitious goal. He made it by 4. You have a second life, or an extension of Kevin mark1. Make the most of it. Not making movies, spend time with your wife and daughter. You have earned it. Love ❤️ you, from a fellow clerk.
OMG Kevin Smith was at Glendale Adventist?! I mean I wish it was under better circumstances obviously but that’s where I was born! Me and Kevin are basically best fiends now
If I ever get to the place when I can’t catch my breath, don’t call anyone I’ll take nature how it comes. The sooner the better the way the world is coming.
That artery i also had them go up to put something through my leg into my heart, i have a hole in my heart and in high school they had to do a similar procedure to try and fill it. only i was out for the whole thing.
Marina Melinda Rivera if they told you there was a hole, those would be the most likely cases. A lot of the time, people will actually have those defects from birth and they just don't get diagnosed until later because they start off pretty minor. Glad the surgery went well and it was corrected. Hope you have a good one

thankfully when it all went down i was on unemployment and somehow had state medical insurance... i get the bills that they cover so i know how much it costed.... with my surgery last October my bills would have been over 100k at this point...
How old are you?
I'm glad you are still with us brother
The EMT definitely knew he was getting a heart attack and didn’t tell him because they did not want him to freak out raising his blood pressure.
Ill NEVER forget falling out of a tree. I smashed on the ground and heard a snap. My parentss and siblings said it was a precaution and not to worry. Probably nothing. No. My knee bone was outside of me. No one said a thing and pretended it was nothing until i got to the er and surgery.
A world without Kevin Smith? I don't even want to imagine it...
Wow happy he's helping so many people on WW getting healthy. Good Guy enjoy every honest moment of Kevin Smith
I dropped folks...I made it back....Take care of the ticker..Yes, fast food is FAST...often cheap...but loaded with bad stuff...Go once a week...not 17 times a week...Be well, Kev...
Once a week? I go once every 4 weeks
Of all the episodes Kevin is the only one who keeps talking and Joe just listens.
To anyone who survived that you are blessed.
crazy how similar your heart attack story is to my own
Kevin is a good dude I'm very happy he is still with us ♥️💪👍
Joe “How did they know for sure?” Rogan
Where’s the full podcast?!?
Dam!!!! This guy can tell a story.
12 lead EKG:
Leads: V3, V4 (sometimes V1, V2) with ST segment elevation. Also reciprocal changes in the inferior leads.
Anterior Wall Myocardial Infarction. Left Anterior Descending Artery (LAD) occlusion.
That’s how he knew.
👍🏻
Celine cardiac catheterization.
Celine 👍🏻
I saw him say this on Stephen Colbert. That is awesome you had him on Rogan!
Bro Stephen Colbert is a French double agent for the Rogan CIA round earth SHILL Society
Lmao
He beat death as I did. We both(I hope)praise Jesus Christ. God bless him and his family
love you, Kev
He Didn't Have All The Pain & Shit of a Massive Heart Attack? Always Better to be Stoned When it Happens...
He can talk... mind blown
Seriously. Good to hear, that he's alright.
Kevin Smith is a master story teller.
I’ve seen that procedure done. Its something to watch. A lady had a similar situation with a bp around 90/50 and whenthe stent was placed, immediately her bp shot yo to 120/80. Awesome stuff
Kevin you are the man. Glad you hear!
Heard this story 80 times on every radio show
TheGuyWithTaste Dan That may save someone's life.
okay stop fucking listening to it then eh?
first time here
Probably because people keep asking...
MORPHINE makes me seize up and gives me a huge headache...
What's amazing is that he'd have been fine in New York or Nashville. Vanderbilt also has one of the best cardiology wings in the country. I wish he knew that to realise either way, he'd have been in good hands.
I almost died laughing at 11:00 because I ate two Little Debbie Fig Bars while watching this! Damn it!
Rogan lookin a little too cooked lmao
hfc lmao I thought the same thing
1911 is when crisco developed crystallized cotton seed oil.
*In the ‘80s action movie Al Powell references trans fats as “partially hydrogenated oil”
Even if it says 0 trans fats the FDA allows up to .5 grams of trans fats per serving in a product.
Glad you are well Kevin.
What saved kevin is that he has his FRIENDS working for him they said fuck what you want this is what you NEED.
Yeah. I'm totally going to die of a fuckin heart attack.
Glad to see he’s doing good
i remembered seeing this when i watched clerks 3. it was the same story
Makes you wonder how uncle joey didn't have a heart attack
Thank god Kevin is not dead. At some point he will direct the greatest super hero movie ever. Mark my words!
At first I was like who is this guy looks so good .
Lost it when he says "I though I was just too high"
😂😂
I want to see Kevin Smith in a normal button down shirt. He would look good with all the weight loss!
2:08 ''I used to be happy, now i'm fucking vegan'' HAHAHAHAHA!
I come back to these vids every now and then, I still love Kevin's brutal honesty about this. Even when dieing was on the table, he was still like "Dont take my shirt off like that" 😂 When you are overweight, it's the only thought... all the time, all day long.
Great now the conspiracy lames are calling him a clone.
Bro You're a clone ok?
I have a feeling I'm going to die of a heart attack.Just cause my diet is so bad.
If Kevin played the Ryman in Nashville he would've been taken to Vanderbilt. I promise you that's a better hospital than anything in Glendale.
My uncle just had the same occlusion on his heart
'use my nipples as guide posts' LMAO
OMG Kevin Smith was at Glendale Adventist?! I mean I wish it was under better circumstances obviously but that’s where I was born! Me and Kevin are basically best fiends now
I have so much respect for Kevin
why
50/50 is rough 20/80 is fucked your a awesome dude, would love to see a photo of Jay and skinny Silent Bob
Anyone suffer from panic attacks?
If so, this comment is a trigger warning. By the end, I thought I was having a heart attack.
I ended up in the ER with a panic attack, thought I was having a heart attack as well
If I ever get to the place when I can’t catch my breath, don’t call anyone I’ll take nature how it comes. The sooner the better the way the world is coming.
I had an aortic aneurysm repaired on oct1,2009
I can run 10miles now
Johns hopkins baltimore city is the best
#DrCameron
That artery i also had them go up to put something through my leg into my heart, i have a hole in my heart and in high school they had to do a similar procedure to try and fill it. only i was out for the whole thing.
Marina Melinda Rivera I am assuming you had an asd or vsd?
it sounds vaguely familiar I'm not sure which one for sure, but yea
Marina Melinda Rivera if they told you there was a hole, those would be the most likely cases. A lot of the time, people will actually have those defects from birth and they just don't get diagnosed until later because they start off pretty minor. Glad the surgery went well and it was corrected. Hope you have a good one
thanks you :)
