A lot of studies show low carb keto and carnivore diets have improved participants' health on several parameters. I watched a documentary recently about Sardinians who have the highest number of centennarians anywhere on the planet. They eat an omnivorous diet with fresh unprocessed foods. Faddy diets aren't required. If any diet requires supplements, it isn't good for you.
Veganism is finished. When people cut out the refined carbs...sugars...dairy... processed foods...they will be healthier no matter what the diet is. Talking to former vegans who are now carnivore...it's eye opening. The carnivore diet may literally be the best and most healing diet in the world for human beings.
My dad had a similar kind of story, similar to Penn at least. He was having angina(chest pain) going on walks and stuff. Went to the doctor. Turns out his arteries are blocked. Doc wants to do a *quadruple* bypass, literally the next day. Dad thinks it over, waits on it. Hears about Dr. Esselstyn and decides to go vegan. 3 months later he goes back to the same doctor. Doctor is like, I'm not sure what happened, but you're numbers are good. Your arteries are still blocked, but I wouldn't recommend surgery. That was like 9 years ago. His diet is painfully boring, but his health has improved a lot. (He claims his irritable bowel syndrome which he had for decades went away).
According to the Esselstyn study, those who did not give up added oils showed no improvement... bummer I know, but that's what the study shows. It's a challenge avoiding added oils even when your trying to be super strict about it, but at the very least I would cut it out as much as possible if heart disease is a concern (which it should be for everyone). Best we can do right? :-)
Been vegetarian for 8 years, intermittent fasting for a year and half and now vegan for 2 months and never been happier. I also hate vegetables but I’m doing my best and chickpeas are great. Good for you Kevin!!!
Try your best to expand your tastes - vegetables have a TON of critical micronutrients that our bodies need. Especially leafy greens. We are primates, and our nutritional needs are essentially very similar to chimpanzees. We share 99.7% of our DNA with them.
Kevin, so happy to hear about a guy being vegan and telling it how it is. It isn't all that much fun and it sucks to be the only vegan you know, that is some lonely living in a small community. March 2016 I went vegan and began to thrive, got to my ideal weight, could ride my bike for miles. by early 2017 I was "secretly" eating chicken wings, ham sandwiches, steaks and burgers. Thanksgiving 2018 I had a ruptured small intestine that they had to do surgery for. They found cancer, I had a heart attack on the operating table. A couple days later they took me to the cath lab where they put stents in and I had a massive stemi heart attack and after 40 minutes of CPR I got a pulse and started to live again. The day before Thanksgiving 2018 was the last time I knowingly ate any animal product. It is a little more than 7 months since I got out of the hospital. Again I am thriving, working hard to install a large garden that I hope to grow into a backyard farm to market operation. I cannot say enough good things about being vegan. I can also say eating is not the funnest thing I do anymore, eating is more of a chore that I try to make as fun as possible. One thing I find that really helps is to improve your gut biome with probiotic foods, any fermented food will have probiotic properties so sauerkraut, pickles, tempeh work. What I like to do for probiotic is to use miso on toast instead of margarine or mayonnaise. I make tomato sandwiches with and I do the same with avocado. I also like to put some sriracha sauce on these sandwiches.
Wow, what a story!!! So lucky you survived all that. Thank you for sharing - that is the best argument for staying plant-based I’ve heard in a long while. The thing about eating not being as fun as it once was…. are you experimenting with a variety of recipes? It definitely does not have to be boring. There are tons of “whole food plant based” recipes with yummy sauces, etc that can often fool even regular meat eaters. Look into the high starch, low fat recipes from Dr. John McDougall. I’m starting his program right now.
Oh please. Virtually every single nutritionalist or athlete he's had on has said repeatedly vegan diets are not the way to go. Both nutritionally and ethically.
Provide evidence, Harris. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has stated that vegan and vegetarian diets are nutritionally adequate for all stages of life.
True Darkness Listen to his podcast. All the proof you need is readily available and If you are a fan you know the statement to be true. Also nice try I never said anything about being a vegetarian.
Harris, I'd never listened to Rogan until he interviewed Rich Roll, who became an ultra marathoner after switching to a vegan whole food, plant based diet and finding he had so much energy. He wanted to see how far this diet could take him. It took him far, very far.
Sam Have you done any actual research? Or are you parroting what others keep saying about cholesterol? Did you know fish oil, something very nutritious, has high cholesterol? Most things people believe about health is either myth or untrue BS that’s been debunked awhile back. Your body needs cholesterol. As well as all fats (except Trans), and calories.
Nodira Alizadeh I decided to be a vegetarian a couple of weeks ago. I’m feeling the drop in B12, so I grabbed some vitamins today. Otherwise feeling good!
He looks fine, eating "OMAD" is what I have been doing for the past 6 weeks and it helps lower blood pressure, lose weight and boost HGH which is all incredibly healthy and healing for the body. I suggest you do some research on autophagy and fasting benefitis before being so judgemental on what he's doing.
Total bs. He’s 47 years old and if he lives a healthy lifestyle he has a good chance of living a good life. Eating a diet comprised mainly of whole plant based foods and being physically active can reverse or greatly improve cardiovascular disease.
Everyone is focusing on Kevin going vegan, which is great but even better is that he basically went OMAD. Intermittent Fasting has been a life changer for me and almost everyone I've known who've implemented it.
c'est la vegan you know he has. Daughter probably saturated his mind with it by now. I'm sure "health reasons" make it easier to explain to friend and family. Think about it, most people would rather die than change their diet. Diabetics lose their limbs and keep eating donuts when you can get rid of that shit in 30 days on plant based healthy eating.
glenda anderson so true my best friend and his brother are butchers and huge meat eaters, my friend is blind in one eye and close to losing his leg and his bro is 30 and just had open heart surgery, do you think they changed anything? Nope! They eat healthy so to speak but eat waaaaay too much meat dairy and eggs and here i am plant based not one health problem hitting the gym 5 days a week and working 45-50 hours per week and off all caffeine 💪😎🌱

Kevin lost 19 pounds in 2 freaking weeks and his blood tests were not only perfect, he was reduced to half his cholesterol medication. I've been vegan for 6 years and during that time many people close to me ran into severe health problems, especially my older relatives. Each time I'd recommend them to take out the meat, dairy, eggs, cheese, etc, and eat instead these much healthier whole foods. They don't try it until they're nearly about to die (three of them _did_ die from something they could have prevented). For the ones that took my recommendations, I didn't think such a change would happen so quickly but I'd hear about how their doctors were in shock that their health improved so much they had to be taken off of the medications as they became unnecessary. They're alive and more energetic today than ever.
Dairy is nonsense if your an adult? Is that why our civilization has been based on cheese and milk for thousands of years, and is a trillion dollar global industry today...right...

My energy level went through the roof...everything in my bloodwork improved, my whole life is better. Then toss on top that nobody kills animals on my behalf...grains that would normally be fed to animals could be fed to starving humans... It is just a much better way, for my life.....I will never go back to eating animals or animal products.
Charles Moore fantastic !! Thanks for sharing your story. My dad at 60 went whole food vegan after having high blood pressure his entire life. His blood pressure is stable and heart is healing. Amazing. My family and many friends are going vegan thanks to my healing story with plants as well. It's worth sharing these stories of recovery
I was vegan for about five years. My cholesterol and weight was through the roof. And then I ate meat and drink plenty of milk, and all my problems went away.
Credit to Joe for presenting something vegan and hearing how successful it can be. Most vegans I know discovered far more foods as a result. I've never regretted it myself - very rarely I get a pang for cheese, but then it passes. Good blood results, fit. Keep an eye esp on B12 and D3 (including meat and dairy eaters).
Actually, this whole thing backfired in Rogan's face. He was hoping to get a good story to debunk the starch diet (of potatoes and yams). This was a crushing shocker for him and his meat eater audience as it brought them to hard reality. No more, "dietary cholesterol is gOoD for u and makes ur brain grow bIgGeR" nonsense. Joe really started to feel the presence of the Grim Reaper sitting by him 😂.
Going vegan is great because it’s easy on the kidneys which in turn keeps your blood pressure low because your body can process sodium potassium and phosphorus faster. I think most people have heart problems because we avoid our kidneys so much we talk about colon and liver cleanses but don’t talk about our kidneys
Have you ever heard of oxalates? An anti-nutrient present in many plants that are consumed on a regular basis by vegans. These oxalates can lead to kidney stones and are contained in such foods as: Spinach, sweet potatoes, almonds, cashews, raspberries, cocoa powder, kale, peanuts and more.

I used to get at least 1 if not 3 abscesses per year I've had none since I quit 4.5 years ago.
I'm convinced that Joe Rogan is completely subjective on the subject of veganism, and only wants to bring guests on who have a positive experience with plant-based foods just to denote the evidence that being a vegan has some huge benefits. Like, why have a podcast just to hear yourself talk?
+And I "Plant-based" is simply the diet itself. A diet based on plants. "Vegan" is a lifestyle. A person on a plant based diet may not have any scruples about wearing leather shoes whereas a vegan would since vegans have an objection to all animal products, not just animal foods. Also, a plant-based diet is usually one devoid of most or all processed foods, hence why it is also called a "whole foods" diet. A vegan diet can include Oreos and potato chips and all other junk that has no animal-based ingredients.
The statement is true. Vegans are the abolitionists of this social revolution. The world will be vegan. OUr planet can not sustain animal agriculture. 60 billion land animals killed annually and 7.5 billion humans. Human population supposed to hit 10 billion by 2050. We currently use 45% of Earths landmass for animal farming.... DO THE MATH
notice that this doesn't happen in any other interview except this one with no headphones. There's a reason for that. The guests' responses are played back through his headphones and remind him not to speak over them. Without the earphones they are somewhat far apart and it's easier to interrupt by talking over them. It's no good, I just think its interesting because he;'s never done this before.
My uncle did the one meal a day thing for decades. Him and his wife had a huge dinner every night but ate pretty much nothing else the rest of the day when they were working and even after they retired. He’d get up at 4, get to work at 5, work 10 hours, go help his mother in-law with household chores until he got home at 4:30 or 5:00. They then ate dinner.
Great video Joe. I appreciate you not attacking veganism or really just plant based diet this time around. If you are exercising the way you are surely going plant based would help your body at deep level. Restaurants maybe harder to come by but if you live in big cities like los Angeles, San Diego, San Fran, etc there are so many restaurants and many different tastes. Anything you like now you can get vegan and exploring that is part of the fun. Even cooking is much more interesting esp when you cool with others and try out new things. Going plant based is an adventure for sure.
Humans are omnivores, we dont live in Disney land where cows dance to the rhythm of their cowbells, and where lions talk to warthogs. Meat is so nutritious, in moderation of course.
Vince that’s not an argument, friend. Humans are omnivores, meaning we don’t need to consume any animal products for health and nutrition. A lot of humans like to pretend they’re lions in a Disney movie, though.
Always kind of interesting that for some people it takes a brush with death to have them change their ways. Lots of factors probably, mostly it seems to be short thinking vs long term thinking.
Americans serving sizes are too big. France is the biggest meat eating nation on the planet per capita. They eat 4 oz portions. We americans eat 20 oz porterhouse steaks with 32 oz of soda pop which contains 5438lb's of sugar per serving.

Sugar is the enemy. Not cholesterol. Our body needs cholesterol. We cannot get rid of cholesterol because our body produces it on its own. Refined carbs and processed sugar cause inflammation within the arteries, and our bodies immune system responds by sending cholesterol to heal those inflamed areas of the arteries, which turns into clots. Most people who have heart attacks don’t realize the amounts of sugars they’ve been having, the white bread, the pastas, the sugar filled juices, candy, and flour. They all blame it on meat, it’s NOT meat. It’s the crap you eat along with the meats. Don’t fall for the BS!!! Carnivore diets are healing people, look it up. Sugar is the culprit. I was vegan for 5 years and honestly I loved it and I was in the best shape I've ever been in and then my mom died and I got custody of my siblings and I used all of that stress the cop out so I stopped being vegan and started smoking cigarettes again and now I'm just a miserable fuck whose unhealthy and 300 pounds again. Everyday I tell myself that I'm going to go back to it and I never do but I'm telling you what watching this has lit the fire again and I hope it works out because I have too many people depending on me for me to eat like a piece of shit and die.

Pedro Teixeira IDK, I think Kevin was selling it to him😅

He lives in this echo chamber as you can see 90% of "doctors" he invites or even regular people are also loads of them hunters and all talk about meat meat meat but virtue signal about the farming industry. They both cried about dogs man, it says something, he's stuck in this ridiculous belief, inside he most certainly is a compassionate man for sure. But yeah, I think he didn't pounce at it for his respect to Kevin and because he just came out of a major heart attack event and going vegan is having an amazing impact on his life, he knows pushing his beliefs on him would look really bad.
I've never heard Joe demonize carbs to the extent you are portraying. he even talks about meals he eats and carbs are incorporated at times just from healthy sources.

Joe is a complete idiot that makes no sense most of the time. Like Trump BS

(He claims his irritable bowel syndrome which he had for decades went away).
good for your dad!
Johnny B what his regiment for food?

Rolling Vegan so no coconut oil =( sadefacex100.
Finally somebody stumped Joe on eating whole food plant based! Good for you Kevin!

c'est la vegan you know he has. Daughter probably saturated his mind with it by now. I'm sure "health reasons" make it easier to explain to friend and family.

Plant based and vegan are not the same.
What is differente
+And I "Plant-based" is simply the diet itself. A diet based on plants. "Vegan" is a lifestyle. A person on a plant based diet may not have any scruples about wearing leather shoes whereas a vegan would since vegans have an objection to all animal products, not just animal foods.
Also, a plant-based diet is usually one devoid of most or all processed foods, hence why it is also called a "whole foods" diet. A vegan diet can include Oreos and potato chips and all other junk that has no animal-based ingredients.
you must be vegan, nobody but a vegan could be so low in fat and protein to say such a stupid statement

@@thefilmpoets Not sure what that has to do with it? I mean you ask a question and wait for your invited guest to respond, yes?
notice that this doesn't happen in any other interview except this one with no headphones. There's a reason for that. Without the earphones they are somewhat far apart and it's easier to interrupt by talking over them. It's no good, I just think its interesting because he;'s never done this before.

He just admits that he was and still is a candy junky!!!! Jeez. Read a book.
Why does Joe look hungover from steak?
Lol
@No ThisIsPatrick and AXE body spray. LOL
Rogan always looks inflamed
Rogan is very good at pretending he knows what he is talking about.
Best comment ever. Rogan is a high school grad who works as a comedian. His knowledge is a mile wide and an inch deep. Dangerous, actually.
"...and also I have an illogical fear of mountain lions." Contender for best end line of any clip.
My dad went low-fat vegan. Got rid of his hypertension (for which he was taking 3 types of medications 5 times a day) and his diabetes ( previously insulin-dependent)
I went keto and I am not in any danger of having a heart attack however I do eat a lot of vegetables!
Same
Wait a few years , the heart attack will be there if you stay on keto.
@@simonroy2123 WRONG.
...and also i have an illogical fear of mountain lions
Penn said he tried corn after 2-3 weeks with nothing on it and he said that's what changed his eating
Between the 2 of them, Kevin Smith and Boogie2988 lost about a Volkswagon.
That's the scary part. Is that myth? Or science?? Animal Cholesterol never leaves our bodies. I've heard this before. However, I've lowered mine when I was strict Vegan for 2 years.
Your body makes cholesterol....
I love meat but I know I'll give the vegan diet a try to see if it fixes the itchy skin I've had all my life.
It's the processed foods that are causing the inflammatory response. Try that.
rooting for you!
Probiotic food not supplements might help.. you might have chronic candida most people don't realize this..
Go mostly vegan but enjoy meat like once a month. Life is short
go all meat and only meat, your skin will clear up
Summary: Learned not to eat first thing in the morning when insulin response is the highest. 👍Good job #keto
The difference in how Joe Rogan speaks about plant based food in this video vs. after The Game Changers.....
"It's not intermittent fasting." Goes on to describe intermittent fasting.
It’s not intermittent if he doesn’t have a specific time frame he HAS To eat
i went vegan about 13 months ago, was veggie anyway so not a huge jump but the cutting out of cheese was the main benefit for me.It definitely helped improve health further but it is quite a bit of work sometimes especially as I live in an area with next to no ready made vegan relacements (its nice to just have something quick and easy sometimes) or places to go and eat. Have started being less strict in the last months and now I would say I am about 90% vegan and eat eggs once a week and will have cheese the odd time maybe once a month as a treat.
