You can actually buy weights to keep paper patterns in place but personally, I don’t like that. I do tailors tacks for pattern markings, so need everything held in place. I also like to keep the paper and fabric pattern pieces together until I sew that piece.
That’s a big subject! There are lots of different types of interfacings that are designed for different fabrics. If you’re really interested you could speak to the staff at your local fabric store because they are usually very knowledgeable. Or Google ‘interfacing types’ and you’ll get lots of results.
Ohhhh imagine a floral version of this jacket! I made my first ever jacket this year too, just in time for an Aussie winter and I’ve worn it basically daily. Your jacket looks lovely. Thanks for another great video.
You did a lovely job with the jacket. I’m looking forward to the day when I have the time to spend all day sewing and being creative. I can see you will get plenty of use out of the pattern.
I’m so stumped on a dress pattern right now. I’m a beginner but I feel like some patterns just don’t give all the info you need! It’s super frustrating! I’ll revisit the pattern tomorrow. Thanks for your positive attitude. It encouraged me to try again!
Same! I need the pattern-maker there to ask questions! The instructions will be like “Sew the shorter piece to the longer piece” ... ok, like, which side am I sewing? And they don’t fit... is it ok that they don’t fit? Do I hem them after? Should I trim away the notches? HeLp!! 😂
@@senaaileigh right?! My pattern told me to cut out two button plackets but didn’t even mention sewing on both, only one, or even say anything about interfacing until the instructions said attach interfaced plackets to dress. And then the darn plackets got in the way of the next step as that part wasn’t clear either! So confusing! And it included instructions for attaching the lined bodice to skirt for two other variations but not the variation I was doing. It skipped that part for my variation’s instructions 🤔 huuuuuh? Do I follow another variation’s instructions now? I was doing so well for so long, and I keep thinking this is too easy... I’m about to hit a confusing part, and I did! Grrrrr!!! Lol!
@@ArmindaHeart So frustrating!! I'm sure you'll figure it out. I guess that's why video instructions are so helpful haha! Best of luck with your project! 😊
Super well made. One tip: the buttonholes are to fragile like this. Try keeping always 1cm of the side edge or make the holes verticale to make sure you dont rip te fabric by wearing it often ❤️
I prefer the flap pockets too. This would be so advanced for me, I don’t know if I will ever get to this level. I started making my wrap around skirt. I’m using a Kwik Sew pattern and following your tutorial and I’m pretty hopeless at it. 🤣 Hand sewing yes, I’m great at, machine sewing, not so much. 😳 Trust me, I would not even be sewing a skirt if it wasn’t for your video.
Your inseam pockets have really helped me so much, I am making a denim style jacket out of one I have & wasn’t sure how I was going to do that part! Thank you Janelle 💗🇬🇧
If you crimp the sleeve into the armhole instead of using an ease stitch, it helps the sleeve to not get any little pinches. A good resource book is, The Guide to Fashion Sewing by Connie Amaden Crawford.
Really pretty! 😁 When I get the "bump" when I sew in the sleeve. I just undo some stitches around that bump and not the whole sleeve and sew again. Fast and easy. 😊
This sew along is keeping me company as I sew a gathered skirt (that I learned from you♡) in a white cotton lawn covered in pink flamingos. Happy Sunday from Cape Breton Island
Oh Janelle, you did it! Not that I was worried lol. It turned out amazing! I love corduroy.. and the gingham, wow! You made it look super easy. I’ve got a fully lined coat to finish putting together from about 2 yrs ago 🙄. The cute footage of your hubby asking about pockets.. 😍 haha and yes, I too love the paper weights! I'm listening to West Cork..
Beautiful jacket, Janelle. My daughter and you share the same tastes. I have on my list to make her a jacket. Not followed a paper pattern in like ages! Will be practice for my Rosa dress.💗
Lol. Very innovative fabric weights❤️👍🏻 I think if you are going to continue to make this sort of thing a taylor's clapper would be an investment to get nice crisp edges. I love the finish using a clapper👍🏻👍🏻
Super cute jacket! I LOVE the contrast of the two fabrics! You've given me the gusto to take out the almost finished bomber jacket out of my WIP stash and get it finished, yes, lining a jacket is mind blowing! Nice work!
So beautiful! What a beautiful colour, and the gingham lining I’m now obsessed! Would love to make the long version after seeing the original Alexa Chung’s version. Shame this pattern only makes short jacket. Well done! 😬
Hi Janelle. .love this jacket and the contrast lining...also like your weights...smart idea... Your hard work paid off...simply beautiful. ...I'd like to make one someday but would probably go for a pink corduroy with the black and white gingham. ...thank you so much for sharing this tutorial. ..looking forward to seeing you soon. ..remain blessed xxx
That little jacket turned out so cute I absolutely adore it but I have to say one of my favorite things about this video I just started to chuckle when I saw you use your phone scissors and tape dispenser as pattern weights that just cracked me up😂
Isn’t lining wonderful? So much better than just finished seams. One suggestion. When cutting open buttonholes put a pin across each end so you don’t accidentally cut too far! Great job. Love the gingham collar abd lining.
It’s way easier than you’d think!! The instructions tell you exactly how to do it, and they way you stitch in certain areas and then pull it out the right way out is literally like magic 😍
I’m a little surprised you didn’t do the underside of the collar in the cord. I’ve seen a couple of contrast collars and usually the underside is the same fabric as the outside of the jacket for stability. Not trying to criticize just legitimately curious. Also the jacket is so cute and now I want to make one 😂
I’ve just started sewing a new dress!! It’s called The Vivian Dress. I don’t know whether you know what that is, but it’s a nice long flowy dress, with puffy sleeves and a waste tie 😊
So becausie it's fully lined is that the reason you didn't overlock it? Would that have made a difference to the way it sat if you had overlocked? I've used a few papercut patterns and I really like them too. I've looked at this one a lot but wasn't sure I needed it, now I think I just might! Thanks so much for sharing.
The jacket turned out so beautiful! It looks like something you can pair with many different types of outfits! I actually just bought some corduroy fabric a few weeks ago because it was such a beautiful color, and also because I saw you use it in one of your older videos (haha). I have no idea what to do with the fabric, so maybe I'll try to make a jacket out of it as well? :D Also, I got the Hazel pattern a few months ago and have made a few dresses from it, and I think that it's the perfect sun dress to wear when it's hot out! Love this so much, I am in awe of how much you managed to do in one day!! I would of made so many tired mistakes 😂 Do you have any tips for pressing cord fabric? I always find my iron ruins the cord 😅 🌻🌻🌻
I've made a jacket out of rust red cord this weekend too😊 but i struggled with the size, it was too tooo big. So i had to undo the seams and minimized it by myself🙄 I sat 3 days on this project, because I'm a beginner and i wanted it to be perfect 😁 and yees, it turned out so well😍 I added your free pocket pattern, so I have pockets in the front and on the sides.🤭 Now I'm enjoying your video with my jacket on. Firstly before the video starts.. I’M LOVING YOUR HAIR! ok, back to sewing lol 😂
Love how your jacket turned out! I had no intentions of making anything like this, but now I can’t stop thinking about it...
Beautiful jacket! I love that because it's fully lined there's no need for an overlocker (which I don't have). I'll bookmark the pattern for Autumn ❤
Totally! I love how neat and seamless it is on the inside 😍
I like your weights for holding your pattern in place 🤣🤣
Haha anything that was in arms reach! I was too lazy for pinning that day 😜
They look just like mine!
A great tip 👍

I love your video, you are so talented Janelle. I tried to click onto the link to your shop. Unfortunately it did not work. I do love your creations.
A great jacket 🔥 I would love to see a tutorial about interfacing - why, where and how to use it in sewing garments 🙂

Huh I Remember having a floral version of this as a kid ..
That jacket is just adorable. Really live the touches of gingham as an accent.
I love Alexa Chung's TV show. She is so down to earth but quirky.

I got my nails done at the salon, so not sure sorry x
Hi! Absolutely love the jacket! How much fabric did you use? 😊
About 1.5 metres of both the main and lining fabric 😊 (they were both about 1.4m wide)
I wonder if this kind of corduroy able to make dress too?
رائع شكرا لك 😘😘😘
You could have done the pocket option you wanted. You would just need to sew the pocket flaps on where you want them and not into the seam
