    Great video mate, summarizes all the info I've found on forums over the years, very informative! :)

    Your bottom end has the same crank as the og M2, but not the sump.
    The oil sump, pump, pan, baffle plate, and suction jet pump from the M3-S55 are installed in the N55 for the M2. It's essentially a slightly detuned S55. Priming is essential when working on these oiling systems. I have a full build on my N55 335i. Posted a few shorts, nothing significant. Selling the beast now. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    8-10K miles for a oil change is OK (and still less than the BMW advise). I did a oil analysis for my N55 and it proofed the oil was still fine. If tracking a car I can imagine every 5K miles, but not for street use.

    My old n55 spun a bearing😭 was truly one of the worst things to fix when you are in a garage laying on concrete with no lift. Got it done though

    I'm wondering if you would see metals in a oil analysis prior to spinning rod bearings. Or can this happen withot wear on the bearings? Any thoughts?

      You could do a test yes and probably would see some in the oil results

      @ to make the large story short. The n55 found on the m235i is exactly the same as the one in the M2 except for the pistons

    Just pulled the bearings on my 80k mile 2012 n55 xdrive. The car has seen 20 plus track days and absolute abuse in my 10 years of ownership. Bearings came out absolutely mint. I was stoked. Video of them on my channel if you're interested. RWD non-m oil pan is much worse for starvation than awd until you do the dual pickup. Liquimoly 5-40 since 5k miles back in 2014.

    You have to prime the system whenever you change, take apart or disrupt any the flow of any component that deals with oil. If you don't say good bye to them rod bearings😔

    • @ethantyrerf22
      @ethantyrerf22  16 днів тому

      Not every oil change? I thought it was only if you disconnected the oil cooler etc?

    • @Big_H2
      @Big_H2 16 днів тому +1

      @ I’m not referring to have to prime the car whenever at every oil change it’s not needed lol referring to priming the car whenever you work on any component that deals or has oil flowing through it so oil pan/gasket, oil filter gasket, oil thermostat/gasket, oil cooler, or any internal engine components include camshaft, rod bearings and the whole lot etc etc. just seen other people on social media spread misinformation or say you ain’t gotta but these lot are clueless 😂 Obvs you can ask the lads in the N55 snap group chat cus someone in there will defo provide more input if need be, Prob will be rob who defo would😂

    I feel better now I know there’s another guy waiting for the 30ºc oil before moving. 🤓
    I measured the oil (5w40)pressure last day during a cold start. 4ºc outside. It’s going up to 7.5bars during a couple of minutes before dropping.

    Would you say n55 in og M2’s is less prone to the rod bearing issue considering updates to the oiling system?

    • @ethantyrerf22
      @ethantyrerf22  16 днів тому

      Yes definitely one of the best out there for updates and improvements across the n55 platform regarding the oil/rod bearing issues

  • @alexdeluna1999

    Just did my rod bearings at 205000 miles lowkey didn’t need to do them had normal wear no copper and smooth nothing to get caught by a nail u good with 3k-5k oil changes and just don’t track it if u don’t got a oil baffle canyon runs not gonna do nothing much unless u driving car to point where ur actually getting a aggressive g force

  • @Dutch79
    @Dutch79 17 днів тому +1

    What's your method for priming the system? You need to unplug the connectors to the injectors and then try to start several times? Or by removing the electric fuel pump fuse?
    Note: BMW is only recommendating this for maintance on the oil system/motor BEYOND oil changes. So, it's not really necessary.

    • @ethantyrerf22
      @ethantyrerf22  17 днів тому

      I just unplug the coil packs from the spark plugs

    • @Dutch79
      @Dutch79 17 днів тому

      @ethantyrerf22 Then you're dumping unburned fuel into the cilinders. Better to use one of the 2 mentioned methods.

    (EDIT) The M235 and M2 Use the same forged crank unlike normal N55's. Some claim they also have rods/bearings from the S55 as do most EWG's produced after 2014.

    • @semperer
      @semperer 17 днів тому +1

      no they dont have S55 bearing thats a myth that forum has made lol M2 N55 has them not normal N55 nor m235i

      @@YourDudeChriss even the real oem will tell you that rod bearing are different part. + rod bearing it self looks differently. and Rod bearings from S55 have a different diametre then n55s one. otherwise people would be using M2 or S55 rod bearing instead of aftermarket

    • @YourDudeChriss
      @YourDudeChriss 17 днів тому +1

      @@sempererChecked on Real oem using my M235 VIN and the rods fitment is "N55/S55 Vehicles" and as for the bearings fitment is compatible, however fitment also lists older engines like the N54 and even the N52. So while compatible, they may not be the "Same" bearings and from the S55?

    • @semperer
      @semperer 17 днів тому +1

      @ that’s actually interesting. But I don’t think they are same rod bearing. But my theory is that they changed materials in EWG version but rod bearing are still under same number . Cuz E9x n55 are failing on rod bearings like apples
