In 1995 I befriended a kid in my 6th grade class who I was in Chess Club with (I promise I wasn’t that nerdy, I just liked chess, lol) He told me his grandparents (who he lived with) ran a company that rented all kinds of amusement equipment, including arcade cabinets, pinball machines, and ticket games. The first time I spent the night at his grandparents house, he showed me the garage, where he had a pinball machine and an arcade cabinet. The pinball machine was The Twilight Zone... and the cabinet was Metamorphic Force. We beat the entire game, lol. I would have kept playing, but we had rented DK: Country 2, and spent all night playing through that (plus he was kind of not as interested since he had been playing the game for months by that point). But I would go to his place and play this ALL THE TIME. Eventually his grandparents took MF away, but they put Darkstalkers in its place... which we went nuts on. Crazy that his GP would only bring the cabinets that people weren’t renting... how could this AND Darkstalkers get ignored? Lol, I miss the 90’s. Also: 1:53 I always found that super-funny “I won’t let ANYONE step in this area!”... Players IMMEDIATELY step in said “area” and he gets knocked out of the “area”.
I love Konami's production and ability to adapt something, from the early 90's era, into an arcade. I wish they had never stopped making beat 'em ups like this.
I wish Konami's beat em ups have more expansive move sets like Capcom beat em ups, but this game and X-Men at least had a special move and 4 players. A fantastic game for sure!
Great to hear your review. It's quite a good game. It's definitely heavily based on X-Men, probably running on the same game engine. The cool thing about Metamorphic Force is that it's totally original, which means they weren't constrained by a license, so they could go crazy with this one. I really like the feel of this one, plus it looks and sounds good. I like that they kept the attacks to grounded enemies, plus the addition of grab moves. Wonderful beat-em-up game.
I was not convinced this was an acid trip until I saw the wavy rainbow effect around seafoam green Satan wearing yellow spandex. Your reviews are always poetic and ooze with charm. If you haven't already, you HAVE to cover Ottifants on Sega Genesis. Holy god is that game a trip.
Thank you for the entertaining video and also for referencing Lisa Frank. I made a joke at work about someone wearing a very colorful sweater and said "Calm down, Lisa Frank!" No one within ten miles got the joke. It was then that I had realized, I'm getting old😑
My brother and I discovered this recently at an arcade and we were instantly hooked. We were making beastly battle cries to match the brilliantly over-the-top game style.
I really appreciate your recent arcade-related videos. It's surprisingly difficult to navigate this space as well as finding good sources of information.
Haha, you had your coffee this morning! It's easy to hear the energy and good-mood-ness, or maybe it's just matching how bonkers the game is. Totally saw that nightcrawler animation right away. Great video, I gotta find this game!
Metamorphic Force is an arcade game I have never heard of; but I'm of course very familiar with the X-Men arcade game, since many, many of my hard earned dollars were poured into that one back in the day, (just like any other arcade rat 😊). I will have to download the rom immediately, and play it on MAME today. I can't wait.
I really enjoy the expanded content. I can only watch so many creators, so for me, this game would have been forgotten. I get my SNES content from here, plus your excellent delivery on a variety of other games. I hope all is going well for you also! Keep up the good work please!
This is some of your best commentary yet. Would be nice to see you in some eSports commentary one day, particularly fighting games which will forever stay close to retro more than any other genre of games so that seems to be right up your alley.
So, one day, Konami thought: "why don't we make an arcade game based on Altered Beast, Golden Axe, with a little Saint Seiya and Fist of the North Star influence?" The response from executives: As long as it's like X-Men The Arcade game. And the rest is history
I friggin' love this game. Never got to experience it in an actual arcade (though the quarters I pumped into X-Men back in the day would surely make up for it), but thanks to MAME, it's been one of my go-to party games for a long time now.
Before he even said it in the video i was like that is nightcrawlers special attack :P. I love the look of this game but have NEVER heard of it before. As always another fantastic video SNES drunk!
Didn't play this one growing up but the Swap Shop (a flea market here in South Florida) has it's own arcade filled with new and old games including this one. I wasn't a fan that your health drained Gauntlet style but the gameplay itself was a blast and certainly gave me that X-Men arcade game feeling.
Thanks for reviewing this game! You’re awesome, man! But it’s sad that I probably may never play this game. I wish Konami would release an arcade collection for all platforms. They could call it “Konami ArKadium!” Edit: well, wait no more! Arcade Archives is finally giving us Metamorphic Force!
Man , I didnt known this game but when I found a video here in UA-cam I was impress. The graphics are better then many games at the time, the speed dont need to mencion, the animations then.... The best is I found it playable online.
The comic store I used to go to back in the 90s had a mini arcade in the corner, and they had this one. Great game, and since that comic store is the only place I knew that ever had it, I will always associate that game with going to the store on Wednesdays to pick up new issues.
OH! Took me until the end to catch that this is an arcade-only game. I sat there the whole time, in awe, thinking this was a mega-obscure SNES dream game. 😏 STILL, though, this looks incredible. Somehow I'd never heard of this. Putting it on the list to visit next time I'm in, uh, arcade town.
@Nefarious520 it's ok. It doesn't have the best emulation and you can't add any emulators to it but you can play alot of arcade games flawlessly on it including this game and X-Men. You will find some arcade games don't run well on it though. Especially the more advanced cps 2 and cps 3 games run very choppy on it. It plays all the arcade versions of SF 2 very well for example. It also plays NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, TG16, and Neo Geo games as well. You can add games to it very easy. It is easier to mod than a retropie or any of the minis and its very convenient. It runs GBA games as well but alot of those run choppy on it. It also runs Gameboy and Game Gear games as well!
This is an under appreciated classic, like Battle Circuit. This game may be inspired by Altered Beast and clearly uses some of the X-Men arcade engine, but I'd like to see a modern game inspired by Metamorphic Force.
It's like the game was made to be turned into a Saturday morning cartoon. I can already imagine how the heroes would all be totally radical teenagers, the bear guy would probably be slow-witted and always complaining that he's hungry and the goddess who gave them their mission would be their babysitter and rolling her eyes at their crazy antics between fighting idiotic villains.
This game runs on the same arcade hardware as Mystic Warriors, Martial Champion, and Gaiapolis (and also Monster Maulers and Violent Storm), which are also great Konami arcade games as well.
These end up being my favorite videos on this channel. All of these great arcade games that seem to come from this alternate dimension where there was an entire generation of consoles between the super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64. And these would be the games to those consoles. Check out Ninja Batman Baseball. Avgn did a short on it and it was really something to see for yourself.
I never knew about this game until a couple years ago and it felt like such a classic that I missed out on. Like you said it must be the same engine as X-men because it’s so similar, but that makes it great. Back then I think Konami made the best beat em up games. It was nice finding a new one. I also agree with you on your comparison to altered beast and yeah, this game is way better.
Konami was on fire in the late 80's and early 90's...literally and figuratively. Of course, the funniest moment in this video was the idea to get rid of the annoying beeping in LttP and putting "Dead Soon" up instead. Hilarious.
1:50 yooo, that goat man is friggin awesome.... straight up BAPHOMET steez... though yes, lol, the amazing technicolor dream wave that comes with him is hilarious..maybe they added that to "holy up" the hint that this guy could be mistaken for the GOAT MAN Satan... shit is dooooooope!
This game it's fucking awesome but anyone who wants to play it you better playing the japanese version instead, because you have a lifebar there instead of numbers that drop down after some minutes even if you don't take damage, so it's more fair
I can’t believe you missed “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream GOAT”.
It was right there!
I enjoy the recent uploads of arcade game reviews, most games I never played...
Lisa Frank, Spyrograph beat’em up...your descriptions are always on point.
I miss the 90s

Same for Sega and Capcom.
I wish Konami had never stopped making good games.
@@ArcaneAzmadi but they lost all their best guys. They should at least be able to make a good Bomberman...
@MultiTarded You wot?! _Square_ the worst? Worse than Konami? Worse than Activision-Blizzard? Not even close.
I wish Konami's beat em ups have more expansive move sets like Capcom beat em ups, but this game and X-Men at least had a special move and 4 players. A fantastic game for sure!
Love seeing these 90s arcade games. Thanks SNESDrunk!
One of my favorites on MAME. A short game though.
“I won’t let anyone step in this area”

“Master of Magnet!”

Loving this deep dive into 80's 90's arcade games.

2:25 it HAS to use the same damn engine as the X-Men Arcade Game.
The late 80's and early to mid 90's we're all about recycling.
Bottles and cans or videogames it all got recycled.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Your comment is so underappreciated. Have my like, good sir!
I really appreciate your recent arcade-related videos. It's surprisingly difficult to navigate this space as well as finding good sources of information.
Some of the songs in this game were used in Konami's Guitar Freaks/Drummania games.
Omg I haven't seen this game since 96' in third grade,... now I feel old,.. truly an underrated gem of the 90's !!
3:06 THAT'S EYDOL FROM KILLER INSTINCT WITH A SPECIAL VIKINGS COLOURWAY

That was a nice comment.
"Get a load of this guy's codpiece" is going to become an essential phrase in mocking someone for boasting when they can't back it up.
This is one of those rare games that you can unironically love or ironically love. It's amazing either way, and hilarious.
Never heard of this game, which makes the review even better. Great writing this episode as well. Good stuff, SNES Drunk.
Feels like a mashup of Altered Beast and Golden Axe.
Great review.
It kind of is.

When people say the 90's were EXTREEEEEME, things like this are what they're talking about.
I spend years i mean YEARS looking for this game without knowing the name! thank you so much!
Total length of video: 264 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3.5 secs.
1.33% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk."
some of the colors reminds me of Transformers: Generation 2 repaints

"When your opponent is prone on the ground, you can wail on them" you sound like wayne campbell!
Keep up the good work, I look forward to your videos every week.
I remember playing this one a long time ago. I ran out of quarters on the final boss. :/
Man that sucks
You should have shook down the kid next to you playing T2 saying i need your Tokens quarters and fanny pack.
I friggin' love this game. Never got to experience it in an actual arcade (though the quarters I pumped into X-Men back in the day would surely make up for it), but thanks to MAME, it's been one of my go-to party games for a long time now.
When I first saw the game I believed that it was an Altered Beast sequel.
Me too. I thought Sega pulled a Revenge of Death Adder and made a sequel to Altered Beast that never got a home port.
Love the arcade binge you are on.
This looks insane! Thank you, Mr. Drunk, for another missed tubular arcade game.
Yes it is 93!
You are the ideal youtuber for my minimal data plan

God I love your show. All I need after a long hard day :)
3:33 LOL the gameplay through this segment is hilarious, just bounding across the landscape at 199.99mph... the 90's were just awesome.
"Dead Soon!" This needs to be a meme.
Example:
Guy in a crowd watching a Ford Mustang do a burn out.
"Dead Soon!"
[Gets hit by Mustang]
Lmao, more games need to steal that "Dead Soon" feature

Just got it for the Switch. Been playing it on the go. Loads of fun
Saw screenshots of this in EGM when I was a kid. Always wanted to play it, but never ran into it at arcades. Shame it was never ported to consoles.
If you are in Minnesota and want to see a cabinet in the wild, they have this game at Up-Down in Minneapolis.
I'm not in MN anymore but that is good to know, do they have any other games?
You really blurred the lines on your sarcasm. Couldn't tell if you like the game or not. Your sarcasm is top notch.
This looks like it could be inspired by a 80's Saturday Morning cartoon. Like the Turtles or He-man
Love this game! Great review!
Oh man, I completely forgot about this. One of a handful of arcade games I got to play as a kid. I remember thinking it was pretty crazy.
Imagine going about your day when a goddess says you’re a recantation of a guardian spirit and sends you to an island to fight lizard-people.

90s + Trapper Keeper + Acid = Metamorphic Force!! No home console could handle this, it doesn’t care how many “Teraflops” you have.
It's like after making so many Saturday morning cartoon licensed arcade games they ran out of licenses but couldn't stop.
