  • UPDATE: The augmenter tubes are part of the Fletcher down draft cooling modification. These large openings increase airflow through the engine compartment, allowing more air to pass and improving cooling. This was an upgrade from the original cooling design. Bonus is that it makes the airplane sound awesome, but it does not add thrust, this I am sure of. lol.
I am definitely not an expert, but I absolutely love flying my Navion. So, I thought I would share a bit of what I know about the airplane and what its like to fly one of these awesome and often overlooked aircraft. If you just want to see some flying and do not want to listen to me blabbering on, just skip ahead to about 17 min in.

It was a pleasure to have you tune in to my twitch stream recently Chad. I am loving the plane in MSFS and Nick has done an excellent job of recreating it for us sim flyers. Great to see the real thing and your walkaround and flight. Awesome.

I almost bought a 1946 Navion in 1982 with many upgrades, but I got married and bought a house. I flew one at Torrance airport in California and was really impressed. I'm envious.

A Navion was the first airplane I had the opportunity to fly in and did so with the Civil Air Patrol about 54 years ago. Thanks for sharing the video and information.

I'm sorry I already forgot your name but I want to tell you from another Navion lover that you did a great job short and to the point on just about every aspect of the Navion

Really nice, clean Navion! If you haven't considered, I'd highly recommend getting a shoulder strap for your front seats. It's cheap and easy enough to do; just wrap them around the bar behind the top of the back seats. No STC or major modification needed, just a logbook entry. I've seen a couple of accidents in Navions where the rear seat pax survived, but the front seat occupants had fatalities from head injuries.

Great walk-around and flight video. I’m a couple years older than your Navion. Always liked that airplane. Well built and handsome. Thanks for sharing your Navion video!

My buddy has a 1947 completely restored Navion that is just beautiful and flies just as good as it looks. Yours is also just beautiful. Great video.

I did my airframes OJT for my A&P with Marshall Baxter and Bob Douthit in the Imperial Valley. Marshall specialized in Navions and at that time Bob had the largest private collection of Navions, I believe he was the President of the Navion Club for a while. I did a lot of canopy chops and flush riveting the wings.
