I'm so glad I found you guys! My husband is suffering from so many orthopedic related health problems and your videos are educating me in a way no one ever has before. I love the style of the two of you having a discussion and allowing us to listen in. Your info is organized, precise, and so thorough! Much appreciated!
Thank you so much Peggy. Glad we can help and best of luck to your husband. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
Whohoo Canadian Dr's!! 🤩SO glad I found you both!! Heading in for THR surgery in February. Had an Osteotomy at 40, 19 yrs ago and now have stage 4 Degenerative Osteoarthritis 😥 Have a personal trainer and a physiotherapist working with me to strengthen the whole hip area, going to be pain free and up and running soooooooooo much faster than my last surgery 👍 (have a little ptsd from that one I'll tell ya 🥺) Thank you for all of these very informative videos, this surgery is going to be so different from my Osteotomy, I cant believe it. Unfortunately surgeon's and Dr.'s aren't able to spend the time with their patients, so it's very helpful and even somewhat comforting to watch your videos, appreciate you both. Wish me luck 😃
Good luck Lana!! You will be great. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Good luck Lana ..
You guys are GREAT!! I had a hip replacement 2 years ago and I watched all your videos and felt much moree confident and prepared for the surgery. Itg has been great. OHH, I am 76. I have NO pain. I really like the way you explain things so much, I have watched MANY of your videos "just in case" other joints begin to wear out on my oldl both. Thank you soooo much.

Thank you, admiring the integrity on your channel, with respect to thoughtfulness & UNDERSTANDING of this PRACTICE. i'm listening closely learning to live with it because the LUMBAR AREA ALONG WITH DEEP HIP PAIN PERSISTS 24/7
Hi Lorna. Pain can be caused by both low back disease and hip arthritis. It is important to discern which is the primary cause. Proceeding with caution is a sensible plan and trying to avoid surgery if possible. Sometimes surgery is required. That is something for you and our surgeon to discuss together. Hope that helps.
@@TalkingWithDocsYes right well spoken as it helps. Because i wish to feel better not bitter, i am at the moment to have blood work. My wife has been completely cured from arthritis pain, she gets normally at the night. I recommended Nze Njoku herbal roots for her after he successfully cured me bulging disc with natural herbs. She is very content with this particular herbal roots which cured her without any negative effect.. He had restored health to families with just roots and herbs and he also cured people PARALYSIS
One must advocate for themselves vigorously when it comes to doctors and remedies. It’s difficult to do when you’re in pain and not mentally up to challenging doctors. Get a second doctor or opinion if your concerns and needs aren’t being met by your current doctor. In that way, we’re ultimately responsible for our treatment.
Thanks for this awesome channel. What topical treatment brands would you recommend?
Hi Melissa. Thanks for calling us awesome! We do not specifically endorse any one brand (... yet - just kidding) however there are many over the counter brands and also some that can be compounded by your local pharmacy with a prescription from your doctor. Often it is a bit of a trial and error process to find out what works best for you. Try not to break the bank. Good luck and thanks for watching!
..have used capsaicin cream from Walmart in the red box at times and a mixture of 3-1 of grapeseed oil.and eucalyptus oil applied at bedtime with a cottonball.

I appreciate you talking about things to try before surgery. Unfortunately, the docs in my area see my insurance and want to do surgery immediately. I have concerns regarding recovery that no one is addressing...
It can be difficult and you need to be prepared. Surgery is last resort. Thanks for watching and subscribing
I'm suffering from this now, just had a bad hip failure leaving me unable to move much atm.after experiencing symptoms for the last few years, & have just embarked on trying to treat it "alternatively".
Firstly, cutting out inflametry foods & drinks, so processed food, carbs/sugars & alcohol & sodas.
I've been taking a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda with a glass of water on a fast for a couple of days to kick-start the anti-inflamation process.
Next step is to maintain a strict diet that includes lots of raw veg, particularly lots of raw greens, Vitamins D3 & C plus glucosamine joint complex tablets.
I managed to rebuild my knee joints similarly some years ago after lifelong suffering, so don't count me out yet!
Good luck to you tvbridge. Thanks for sharing your story. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.
Thank you Docs, good to know.

I just turned 51 and have had my first Baker's cyst 10 years ago. I first noticed them when I moved to a new home which had hard wood floors. Within a few weeks of moving in and walking on the hard wood I had my first bakers cyst. I didn't even know I had a lump on the back of my knee until my fiance noticed it. It was huge! At the time I wasn't sure what it was but looked online and self diagnosed the issue. It went on for several days / weeks and it would not go away. It was only in my left knee. I started to wear slippers with cushioning to see if it would help. And it did!!! I now wear slippers at all times when on hard wood floors. If I remove the slippers only for 10 minutes my knee pain will come back and I will have another cyst. The best thing you can do is wear shoes or slippers with as much cushioning as you can. If you don't notice any improvement try another pair. Do not use just rubber like crocks because it does not help. You need slippers that are like walking shows for support. I would imagine if you have hip pain this might help as well. Needless to say 10 years later so long as I keep wearing my slippers and use good shoes I have been able to keep them away. But I am not kidding, if I take them off, within 10 minutes of walking on hard wood floors I will have bad pain and a lump will start.
Please pass this along to anyone who has baker's cysts!
thank you for the video -- you touched on injections for the hip , is that the same as prolotherapy and how long does a shot last . mainly a lubricate or healing shot not the cortisone shot , any knowledge of such --thanks
Hi ed. So the main injections for the hip would be cortisone or hyaluronic acid both of which are ultimately designed to help reduce pain. Some surgeons are experimenting with PRP and stem cell injections however the evidence for this is currently limited. Hope that helps. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing if you did.
I just got diagnosed at 39 years old and after being a ballet dancer and teacher for most of my life. In my country I’m too young for an operation “so I just have to find other things to do in life”. Easier said than done.

Hi guys thanks for the informative video. What is the pharmaceutical product you recommend at 4:33. How do you spell it? I will read up on it as I've never heard of it before. Thanks again
Hi Aidan. Very welcome. We said acetaminophen which is Tylenol. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
Thank you for the information! When you brought up needles I thought you were going to talk about Cold needling or Acupuncture. Also I've heard Cymbalta being prescribed for pain. Thoughts on those?
Hi issbiss11. Thanks for the positive feedback. Dry needling is an interesting treatment for some soft tissue conditions but we are not aware of its role in arthritis. Accupuncture seems to have a variable effect for patients. Pain medications are often from many different classes and yes cymbalta has been used to reduce pain. As always under the supervision of a health professional to ensure no interaction with other medications. Good luck going forward and thanks for watching.
@@TalkingWithDocs Thank you for replying! Right - dry needling is what I meant. I only ask about Cymbalta because if physical therapy proves to not help much, I can see becomimg depressed about having to deal with this pain everday and face not being able to do all the outdoor activities I enjoy.
@@issbiss11 I tried Cymbalta for my hip pain and within a week or so, was having trouble with my eyes. Things were getting blurry. I looked up the side effects and that was one of them, so I quit taking it.
@@LoveWiena Are you sure that’s a possible side effect? I’ve been on it for many years for anxiety. My Opthalmalogist has never mentioned it.
I appreciate he information. I went to PT but, I felt that since my insurance did not have limit on visits I felt ow would they worked out the exercises for home if there were a limit.?
Hi Fran. With respect to physio, it is important to go to physio at a minimum to learn the exercises and then to do the exercises on your own at home or at the gym. One of the challenges is that a lot of people simply will not do the exercises at home on their own so going to physio helps force you to do them. Hope that answers the question. Good luck

Hi Doctor's-love your content! I was diagnosed with hip arthritis and in need of replacement in abt a year. 55 yr old male-very active,5days a week weights, cardio and yoga. Question, I've read and seen doctors recommending Nandrolone Decanoate for the joint pain until I get replaced. I read Nandrolone lubricates joints(hence good for the hip pain)Your thoughts? thnanks
Hi Jimmie J. With respect to nandrolone, we do not routinely recommend hormones or anabolic steroids for arthritis. We would typically prescribe medications to reduce pain, possibly an injection, physiotherapy and activity modification. Hope that helps. And thanks for watching!
so far this the best video concerning the hip i have seen....what about burning the nerve root heads to stop the hip pain to avoid hip replacement, i had my right hip completely replaced and i would like to try burning the hip nerve root heads for my left hip? what do you think, good or bad idea?

Thank you so much for the info. I have cerebral palsy and I have had a couple of corrective surgeries. My surgeries were at 11 and 19. Both of them being derotational osteotomys. I was in tremendous pain or I have been a tremendous pain to say the very least I just got diagnosed like a week ago with traumatic arthritis and osto. My orthopedic doctor said they can't do anything more for me and I also did PT they said there's nothing we can do for you for this problem. So my doctor referred me out to Portland hospital. To get surgery. I'm trying to find any other solution other than surgery because I know how this goes its going to be extensive really painful and I'm 54 years old I really do not want. surgery!! I already got a cortisone pack of pills like two and a half months ago and it was like a miracle it took away my pain 95% but they won't give me any more because of the side effects so now they just said basically over the counter medications or an operation! I am so discouraged but I'm also in excruciating pain I can barely sleep Tylenol and ibuprofen do not help not help. Any suggestions other than what you already mentioned here??
Nice hats and some of Yorick’s body parts in the background…alas poor Yorick, I knew him well….thanks Docs, very informative. I’m 69 with referral for hip replacements in 2001. I had a while to think about it because of wait list and came across stem cell treatment. I ended up cancelling the surgery and had self donated stem cell therapy injections both sides 9 months ago with ongoing Pilates since as well. Big reduction in pain, no more Palexia, very little Celebrex now, just a Panadol Osteo before bed. Walking regularly, 177cm and 77 kilos is a bonus too. Some occasional massage helps as well. Mobility improvement is a slow and requires a lot of patience and work on muscles and joints.
That's good. Obviously you didn't need hip replacements. Keep doing whatever you are doing
I work out 3 times a week. I just started feeling pain in my hip 3 days ago and I’ve been told by my physician that I have arthritis in my knee.. could it have traveled to my hip?
I find myself limping.. and I’ve been doing some leg exercises which hurt more.
Do I stop because of the pain?.. or should I work past it till it gets better.. sometimes you gotta go through the pain before it heals.. I don’t know if that’s true in my case.
Hi ReneetrustsGod. So it doesn't really travel. If you are unsure, the best way to find out is with an xray. If you have some pain during exercise that is ok. If it gets worse, you may want to reconsider what you do for exercise. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.
What are the different types of hip replacement? Cost? Pain doctor prescribed Gabapentin. I don't know how long I am supposed to take it.
Hi Carman. The main differences are cemented vs non cemented and the the bearing surfaces. Metal on plastic, ceramic on plastic, ceramic on ceramic and metal on metal. The costs can vary. Best to discuss gabapentin with your treating surgeon. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
Very informative and useful video, thank you. I'm from the UK, and while we are lucky to get our treatment free, it is very limited, eg, we may get painkillers eventually and are told to keep active, but there is no provision for things like physiotherapy. I would be lost without people like yourselves and physiotherapists posting on UA-cam. At least I know I'm doing the right things now.
Hi Glenda. Thanks for watching and we are very glad to hear we can be of any assistance if your recovery or preparation. Good luck
Can you make a video on F.A.I and labral tear within the hip and surgery for that kind of injury?
Hi madelyn. We will definitely add it to the list. It is a common problem for sure especially for younger people. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Is it possible to have the more advanced anterior hip replacement surgery with pins in my upper femur
from a hip fracture more than ten years ago? I have been told that the pins would have to be removed
prior to the hip replacement, which would require the more traditional hip surgery with the lengthy
recovery period. I am a 70 year old man, residing in Boulder, Colorado, I have debilitating hip pain,
but (due to family and other responsibilities) I cannot be inactive for the many months that are required
for the recovery from the traditional hip surgery.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to this question.
John
Hi John. Sometimes it is not possible to remove hardware from the anterior approach. Having said that, lateral approach patients often go home same day or next day and are walking full weightbearing right away. Usually walker for 2-4 weeks then a cane then nothing. Everyone is a little different though. Hope that helps and good luck. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
@@TalkingWithDocs Thanks for your reply. This gives me hope.
Do lidocaine patches fall into the topical category? I can only buy 4% lidocaine patches in the drug store and they don’t do much! I can’t stand the smell of other creams and gels! The smell makes me sick! ( I’m sensitive to fragrances)
Hi Diane. Yes they do. It may be helpful in reducing your pain. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and be safe.
"Stop doing it" lol I work in the operating room, scrubbing 12 hours and wearing lead in my endovascular cases. Can you write me a doctors note? I was just diagnosed with rt hip arthritis im 49, don't smoke, don't drink, not overweight. they did an ultrasound injection lasted one week. The pain was so bad when I would go to get up I would almost collapse. Working out hurts and im getting ready to do PT and then im going for the replacement . Started multi vitamin, calcium and glucosamine. Does not matter how good of health you are in. Thank you for the video

How are things now?
I switched to the ketogenic diet on the very next day after finding out I had osteoarthritis in my hip. 3 weeks later I was off pain killers. It has been 10 months & still no need for pain killer. Castor oil is another amazing alternative for inflammation pain if you need it. Supposedly able to dissolve bone spurs as well. I'm trying it to get the mobility back in my leg do to the spur or growth that has evolved due to the arthritis.

The doctor just briefly said my hip hurts mostly from arthritis, but left it there. It’s not bad yet, just hurts when getting up from sitting down. I’ll request physical therapy then. Meanwhile is Tylenol arthritis good? I heard if long term can hurt my kidney. 🙏
Btw cool bandanna🥰

I started getting pain in my right hip around 5 years ago, now 75 and slowly began favouring it particularly when going up stairs but realized that would probably only reduce strength in those muscles, so now try to use as much as possible, although this practice might be self defeating. Pain mostly arises when the air pressure drops. I would rather put up with some pain than go the surgery route.
I find Theraworx for joints is quite helpful used 2-3 times a day. Also some neuerophysiological studies on how the brain processes chronic pain and strategies to rewire pain reception and calming the nervous system. Any thoughts on that?
Hi Linda. Thanks for sharing. Chronic pain is a large area of interest for research right now and there is some evidence that we have the ability to rewire pain perception - some mind over matter stuff. Positive thinking has been shown to be helpful in many medical scenarios. It is worth considering for sure. Thanks for watching and best of luck to you.
@@TalkingWithDocs thank you for your reply! I am actively trying 5he program by Dr David Hanscom at www.Backincontrol.com

I do daily stretch and exercise routines to maximize mobility. I hope others find non-surgical ways to improve activity levels and reduce pain. Stay safe in these strange times!
Very informative video. I just turned 57 and November 20, 2016 after 20 years of running, I was diagnosed with end stage arthritis in my right hip. I don't have a lot of pain just some stiffness and mobility issues which I was told was caused by bone spurs. I quit running but still do cardio by walking on the treadmill with a pretty good incline. A year later it doesn't feel any worse. Do you think I can continue this way and put off a replacement or am I only delaying the inevitable? Thank you so much for all your suggestions.

Hi SwJohan. Not yet but they are working on it. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
Hi Greg. So other NSAIDS are an option. Some Parker’s add Tylenol. You can try topicals. X-ray guided injections work in some. Physio. Then surgery. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing

What's the best exercise for legs when having hip pain.
Wall sits?
Body weight squats?
I sometimes have the feeling that unilateral leg exercises give more joint pain than two legged versions do.
The head/femur is in a different angle in the socket when doing lunge or Bulgarian Split Squats than when doing an air squat..
More aggravation ..
What's your thought/s on which leg exercises for sensitive hips..
(going heavy with barbell squats and Bulgarian Split squats didn't do me a favor regarding the hips)
Whichever exercise you can do with the least amount of pain. Thanks for watching and subscribing

Ok thanks, that's clear advice.
And I also noticed I should stay away from nightshade foods.
No chili and potato for me. The difference is unpleasent big...
Update:
Static squat hold and wall squat are fine for no.
No ego lifting with heavy weights, but it works the muscles still nicely. And taking the stairs also.
10 up to 36 floors.
Good for hard breathing also 😁.
I'm on THR surgical wait list (5 - 6 months) None of the prescription NSAIDS work and side effects are horrible. Durolane injection didn't work. I workout carefully, get physio and I am not overweight. Docs in Canada don't prescribe opiods. What else can I try for pain relief? I don't sleep through the night w/o pain. I take Cymbalta already! B.C. has no family physicians anymore - just walk in clinics with disinterested physicians...Naxolone any good???
ps I love you guys!!!
Hi Kat59. Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. Narcotics have been shown to be a bad idea to treat arthritis. You can try topicals or possibly CBD. Tylenol is always a choice but often not very effective. Hopefully you can get on a cancellation list and get your surgery. Thanks for the kind words. Keep us posted and thanks for watching.
Hello. I have used LDN - Low Dose Naltrexone - on and off over the years, and this has helped with my chronic pain, nerve paid. - fibromyalgia, amongst other things. I’ve gone and tried other pain meds which haven’t agreed with me, so am starting back on the LDN once my steroid injections I’ve had this last week have done it’s work. Looks up the fb groups “LDN” - there are research groups, and others that cover chronic pain, fibromyalgia, ms etc
Good Job!
I am 60 and have rheumatoid and gout. My MRI's and xrays show large amounts of build up on the bone joints. 2 months ago my left hip started hurting when I walk. The more I do the more it hurts. The pain fells like it is on the bone on the outside of my hip and not the joint.
Do I have a joint problem and the pain radiates from the joint to the outside and not where the joint would be?
Hi Yumpin Yiminy. Thanks for the positive comments. It is always difficult to give specific advice without examining you so you should definitely see your doctor. Having said that, if you can touch your pain - over the lateral (or outside) part of your hip it is possible that your pain is from bursitis rather than arthritis. Hip arthritis usually causes pain in the groin, upper thigh and posterior hip. Bursitis is inflammation in an area where a tendon rubs over a bony prominence and what happens is that the lubricating sac gets inflamed. This is often successfully treated with anti-inflammatories and physiotherapy but you should be assessed. Hope that helps.
Didn’t mention diet or supplements, like glucosamine or hyaluronic acid. Are any of these effective?
So we do have videos on glucosamine, inflammatory and anti inflammatory foods. Hyaluronic acid injections have some benefit. Thanks for watching and subscribing

Hi docs, i need advice on knee issues. I'm bone on bone and do not want surgery. I'm overweight, but working out in water to try and loose weight. Is there any therapy or other solutions where i could heal my knees without surgery. Thank you in advance
Hi Emelyn. Thanks for the question. There is nothing other than knee replacement that can definitively solve your hip arthritis issues however there are multiple treatments to reduce pain. Medications, topicals, injections, physiotherapy, activity modification, weight loss and ambulatory aids (cane, walker) are all designed to reduce your pain. You need to figure out which ones will work for you. Hope that helps.
I have knee arthritis in my left knee...for many years and take Advil, used to take Celebrex...just in the last week the weather turned very cold, and suddenly my hip on that side became very painful, even hurt to stand with my weight...now it is gradually improving- wondered if it could bursitis as it came on suddenly, and resting and applying ointments such as Arnica Gel, or Emu oil seem to help. It is improved a bit so I can get around better, with some warmer weather- Your Opinions, Docs?
Hi Diana. It could be bursitis but arthritis is often weather dependent especially with big swings in the barometric pressure. Good to hear that you are feeling better. Warm weather often feels better - all those people in the white pants heading to Florida is no accident. Thanks for watching.
Hey ive recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees in February . Ive also alot of pain in my hips too but that was not detected on xray. My doctor knew this information for 2 months and never informed me. I am due an mri to scan my whole body. Ive was given no advice on how to manage better and im struggling to cope when the pain is bad as i cant eat when im in pain. I'm 33 and have been suffering for years. Gettin up and down is difficult especially going upstairs. I am 5'8 and i feel like ive lost height due to walking differently. Ive asked for crutches yet ive not been referred to a doctor who specializes in this era. I cant sleep because im stiff. I take 1 diaz 5mg a night, 2x naproxen 250mg three times daily and paracetamol 500mg capsules. Are these the correct medication for this condition because these dont work or help me yet the doctor just gives me more. I dont have a life anymore. How do i fix this. I feel as old as my grannie. Thanks for listening 👌☺❤
Hi Sassi Lou. Arthritis can certainly take its toll on your quality of life. The main goal is to try and deal with the pain as long as you can. Once you have exhausted non operative treatment, then you have to consider surgical options up to and including joint replacement. The medications you are taking do sound reasonable. Other options include physiotherapy, injections and bracing. Often a cane is better than crutches or a walker for older patients. Hope that helps. Hang in there and if you feel like you cant cope it is time to consider seeing a surgeon to discuss your options. Hope that helps.
Look for a Functional medicine dept consultation appointment. The Cleveland clinic has one. 216 444 2200 have the operator get you the right dept.

It did no good for inside the hip, but I noticed that the surface area around the hip felt good for a couple of days, probably due to the injection of Lidocaine!! I am now trying anti-inflammatory diet and losing weight.
@@LoveWiena Thanks for your comment. I am doing the anti-inflammatory diet and losing weight, but it does not work. I will continue to do as it is good for my body but I will be doing the hip replacement in January. I am too tired to be in pain over the past 5 years.
Hi Geoffrey, how did the surgery go? Wishing you well with your recovery.
I am right at 70 years old and an avid tennis player. But, now I have bone on bone, bone spurs and osteoarthritis in my hip. Is there anything that I can do to not have to have hip replacement surgery? Thank you for your time.
So non op includes meds, physio and injections really. Often total hip is inevitable. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
If the steroid injection is for inflammation and the hyaluronic injection is for lubrication, can you have them simultaneously? (I apologize if this is a stupid question.)
Yes G S! And now it can come that way from the manufacturer too. Very smart! Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
Thanks!

I'm totally frightened of the hip replacement. I'm only 60 and an artificial joint is only good for 10 years or 10,000 miles!?!? Docs in my city are obsessed with Durolane injections. It's a hell of a great moneymaker for them. Each sports medicine doctor in the clinic does one every 20 minutes!?!? I'm nervous but desperate (doing all other options not working). How many times can you get an injection (IF it appears to be effective for 6 months or so)?
Hi Kat59. So injections are an option because they can provide relief. Often you will not know how well they work until you try it. It is a good way to delay surgery. There is no specific limit on the number of injections you can receive as the material itself is gone within days however the benefit lasts for months. Best to try and wait as long as you can. Thanks for the question and good luck. And thanks for watching.
Hi Doctors.
I’ve got hip arthritis my left hip. I just completed 5 weeks on Prolotherapy injections in my left hip. I don’t think it’s going to work. The doctor said give it time and I’ll see the results. On 3/28/18 I’m seeing a specialist at New England Baptist Hospital. I’m so scared about a hip replacement I’ve never ever had any type of surgery. I’m trying to lose weight. Are there any other alternatives since this video? Thank you so much!
Hi bryant. Unfortunately injections often do not help in the hip as much as they do in the knee. Physio is always a good idea as is weight loss in the setting of arthritis of the hip. The alternatives beyond surgery are very limited. There have been no significant developments in this area. There is research looking into PRP injections and stem cell injections however our opinion is that it will likely not be helpful in the setting of advanced arthritis. Time will tell. Until then, wait as long as you can. All surgery has risk and is not perfect however the hip replacement does have one of the highest satisfaction rates for surgery. Hope that helps.
Talking With Docs THANK YOU!
You are very welcome. Good luck!
M husband and I have been taking genacol for about 9 months now and find it is helping a lot.

How do I subscribe also is it ok to use a rowing machine. Or will it make the pain worse
My question is not about arthritis although I have osteo arthritis. my question is, I have sciatic nerve pain in my hips and going down my legs, both of them. I have severe osteoporosis, degenerative disc, spinal stenosis and have stopped going to pain management because the opiates did not help.. I use CBD oil for pain.
Any ideas about this nerve pain? Its really bad? Thank you Doctors.
Hi Barbara. Sorry to hear this. It can be severe. If physio and medication do not help it is worth getting an MRI and seeing a surgeon about injections or possibly surgery. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
thank y'all so much !!! its inevitable that I have hip replacement but I'm trying to put it off ,esp since I already have hardware in femur from chair flipping me over hill & breaking leg Friday 13 . I felt safer with leg bolted in hip for awhile , but now leg wobble is back , besides exercise , is there anything to help bone & marrow strength ?
Thanks for the question. A balanced diet including calcium and vitamin D is a good start. Often vitamin D needs to be supplemented (see Vitamin D video). Weight bearing exercise helps maintain bone density. Good luck.

What topicals would you suggest.
Hi Diane. We are not allowed to specifically endorse any products but if you ask your pharmacist they can recommend one. If you have insurance there are some compounds. If not there are over the counter preparations. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
Where are scientists at inventing a gel fluid to replace the cartridge that wears down in the joint. I’ve had hip & knee replacement & sure would love an alternative to surgery if other joints break down.

I’m a 28 year old male that has had reconstructive hip surgery at the age of 16. I know suffer from server hip arthritis. Because of my age I’m to young for a hip replacement do you guys recommend anything I can do to help with my arthritis. It is very difficult to walk.
Hi Dimitri. The suggestions in the video above. Sometimes injections. And then THR once the pain is not manageable. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
What about supplements? Collagin, Turmeric, Glocosamine, etc??
Hi Holly. The evidence is less strong for them but often worth a try. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
I understand PRP isn't so effective but what about stem cell injections?
Hi Michael. There is some excitement about stem cell injections but little scientific evidence at this point to justify its widespread use. Time will tell but we are not holding our breath.
I'm 47 and just found out that I have arthritis in my right hip. I'm curious if I will eventually have to have it replaced? I know it can't get better. I guess it's just a matter of how long I can make it last.
You are exactly right Phil. Not inevitable but on the table for sure

xrayed my hip-25% cartlage loss. Pain goes all the way to lower leg. Are there exercises to reduce pain in that condition? Thank You
Hi stage hand. Any of our hip replacement Physio exercises would be good. We are going to release another soon. Any therapist should also be able to give you a plan. Good luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
a hot bath with bath salts just relieved a lot of my hip pain - am looking at six months before Hip Replacement surgery - pain pain pain - some days it's just too much but most of all it's demoralizing to walk uneven. The bad leg caves in and it's a horrid feeling that people think I'm not in full control of my body when I try to walk. I'm not normal and people notice. I cannot run if someone wants to mug me. That's scary.
Hi Brigid. Sorry to hear you are suffering. It will be worth the wait. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did

Hey you guys, i have psoriasis and i have bone spurs in my hip region. The pain is not that extreme but will it grow? Can i avoid it?
Hi Tiya. So yes the spurs will likely grow as arthritis progresses but it is often very slow growing. It is hard to say how to avoid it. It may or may not be related to your psoriasis. If you have that treated it may help. The other way is to stay fit and lean. Avoid extreme range of motion and high impact activity on the hip. Other than that, try not to worry about it too much! Hope that helps. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.
@@TalkingWithDocs hey docs can't thank you enough for your feedback. Can i do pilate though? And yes i have subscribed to your amazing channel
what medication would you recommend for someone young with a poor kidney function?
Do you think is better a corticosteroid injection or a hyaluronic acid one? The consultant that is treating my case reports there is no evidence hyaluronic acid works on the hip. I am quite scared that the corticosteroid injeciton will damage the bone more. Thanks
Hi Sandra. So patients with poor kidney function should avoid anti inflammatories so acetaminophen is a better idea. As for injections, we would agree that HA has less evidence for being successful in the hip compared to the knee. A cortisone injection is often worth a try. Best to discuss all the risks and benefits with our treating surgeon and make an informed decision. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching.
I could hardly walk before a hip injection and now I have regained 80;percent mobility with much less pain.
Very nice Michael. It works for some for sure. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing

What about smoking?
"I don't smoke Paul." LoL
Hi currypac. Smoking is not advised. For any reason. Thanks for the question and for asking.
Question for you hip impingement. I had a cortisone shot in November I got another one requested for this week is it worth it or will it damage the tissue or would it make the arthritis worse
The first cortisone shot did not work forgot to add that in there
Hi marc. Typically if relief is only short lived we are not big fans. Hip arthritis does not respond as well as knee arthritis does. Hope that helps
@@TalkingWithDocs yep that's exactly what I read there earlier this morning. It's harder for the hip then it is for the knee. Thank you doctors. I might just cancel the request for cortisone
You mentioned Tumeric Root in the title but no mention in your video? How effective is tumeric root for relieving pain or othe herbal supplements?
Hi Academy of Martial Arts. We don't believe tumeric is mentioned in the title. There is some scientific evidence that supports the use of tumeric in reducing pain from arthritis however it is far from conclusive. We believe the risks are minimal though. The same could be said for herbal supplements. There are many anecdotal reports for benefit but less scientific evidence. Having said that, always discuss anything you are taking with our health care provider and in general, we believe that less medication is better so if answers can be found in herbs and spices that would be great news. There are many ongoing studies of such products. Thanks for watching.
PLEASE exersice for hip..thanks

Not being funny but an occasional alcoholic drink... Seems to help. Just a small glass. Thanks for your suggestions. I do leg swings. Stopped walking. Adult tricycle helps unless it's hurting. Patches tried so far don't help much. Ice alternating with heat. Losing weight slowly. I'm kind of relieved you aren't big fan of injecting.
Hi El Swift! Sounds like you are doing everything you can. Everything in moderation makes sense to us. Good luck

So where can I get an appointment?
Hi K Foster. You would have to go through your family doctor. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
The smirks and looking away from the camera when talking about tropicals speaks volumes. Hip injections are not very painful and why compare hip injection efficacy to a knee injection?
Hi Sneau. We compare it because a lot of people discuss with eachother what treatments they have had. Hip injections are simply not as effective and that is with 30 years of collective experience. Hope it worked for you. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
I am 20 years and I have had hip arthritis since I was born , I was wearing shoe raise buh I stop wearing it like two years ago (I got tired) , the leg with the hip arthritis is 6inches shorter than the other one . Please what can I do
Hi Fathia. If your leg is 6 inches shorter it is likely not because of arthritis. Also no one is born with arthritis. You likely have a congenital leg length discrepancy and would need to talk to someone about considering either a leg lengthening or shortening procedure. Best of luck to you. Hi doctors is it posible to have a hip replacement without one leg being longer than the next?
Hi Queen Friday. The short answer is yes. The vast majority of people have equal leg lengths after surgery but occasionally the leg is longer to improve stability. Hope that helps.
Talking With Docs the short answer, huh!
