Aesthetics is subjective but most people think that the Tesla Model S is rather classic. And most people believe the new model Highland is really good looking too. As for boring to drive no chance. Also no chance that Tesla's going to go bankrupt and leave you stranded in terms of support repair etcetera.
the car is awesome - very few issues since taking delivery, and fewer than my dads Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy that he took delivery of a few weeks prior to me. Fit and finish is top notch. Car drives like a dream and pulls like a beast.
Fisker's cars are both more affordable and better looking than Tesla's, making it a clear choice for me. Why is there resistance to Tesla having competition? Why does it always have to be about Tesla?
There's no resistance, tens of thousands of people are buying Hyundai, Kia, and even Rivian EVs. Fisker is struggling to survive because it doesn't make enough money with the small number of people buying the Ocean.
One thing is here in the US Tesla was the only brand to sell hundreds of thousands of EVs. Being the Model 3 and Model Y. Every single other EV didn't break 42k units sold for EV models. And frankly that's terrible for most of those. Especially the "cheaper" models with smaller profits. Tesla is the benchmark to beat as most other EVs here are flops in terms of profits and expectations placed on said EVs.
Because the Tesla vehicles are better pound for pound. Fisker might be cheaper, but when you look at specs, charging, software, range, practicality and all around usability as a BEV to daily, its not even close
So far the best software of any manufacturer. Fisker has many software issue at this time. Many reviewers rather it poorly but it’s better than reviews of the Vinfast.
Honestly, I'm amazed Fisker has made it this far, simply because the bulk of the design, production and release work for the Ocean occurred during the pandemic and then a period of hyper inflation. Tesla wouldn't have gotten off the ground in that environment. I hope Fisker makes it.
When Fisker needed to raise capital, every investor was literally throwing money after any EV start-up with ambitions of going public. When Tesla got started, the concept of a mass market EV manufacturer was considered a joke by most, and so they had to pull rabbits out of the hat to raise capital several times, sometimes days before bankruptcy. Tesla made a lot of mistakes in their earlier days, but they were also the first to walk their path. Today's start-ups have the advantage of looking at Tesla's mistakes with hindsight.
@@Harakai100 Not sure that is true, though it fits Tesla's narrative. Tesla got enormous government support -- direct loans, huge rebates for production facilities. And there was a lot of support for them because they were the only ones; they had strong investment. Fisker has been living through Covid and post-Covid. Not an easy world, especially with the far-right political sentiment against EVs altogether and some states passing legislation directly hostile. Even Tesla -- the only established EV maker -- has been suffering through this period, particularly lately. I do agree Tesla had challenges too, but its timing -- being the first out the door for a product attractive to a certain segment of the population, coupled with political support and pretty darn good products -- definitely helped it.
@@AmerBoyo Electric cars are expensive in the main, and I suggest you go and wait, and wait, and wait for an electric car to refuel , you'll never want an electric car again!!
I don't see how they can survive. With the stock price under $1, recent layofs, all the competent engineers are going to be leaving. That will be the final nail in the coffin for the company if they can't get competent engineers to fix all their problems.
Hopefully they overcome this. Henrik designs some beautiful cars tbh. One of the OEMS should definitely partner with or just outright buy Fisker as their EV branch.
The comments here surprised me, actually -- not used to seeing so much consistent "positivity" in the comments section of a video on UA-cam -- and the fact that sentiment (at least here) seems to be quite optimistic even when the company's share price has hit rock-bottom interests me. An Aussie here, by the way; hoping to see Fisker cars sold here one day. I would happily trade in my Mercedes SUV for a Fisker Ocean!
Hope Fisker could prove them wrong, their lineup looks better then most of the competition. If a company does buy Fisker out at least they have a better road map than Karma had.
Fisker should be right up there with Tesla, his designs are out of this world, I would really like to see him make it, also the truck looks really cool.
Love the design. But i don’t believe it will ever compete with Tesla. It doesn’t have to. It’s a different, lower volume, approach. I sure hope they make it 🎉.
dont get me wrong... 2 of the 3 cars are nice vehicle aesthetically but other than that its gona be a nightmare for servicing, software, and anything else that doesnt function properly on the car.
if they had 45,000 signed up for the ocean why can't they sell the remaining of the 10,000 cars? Did they only sell 4500 cars because someone added a digit by accident to how many orders they had or did they really lose the contact information to 41,500 people?
What exactly is great? Expensive, software bugs. Missing features, software limiting launches. I do hope they succeed but they have to do better to achieve that
I saw a video about the Pear. Ok under 30K so it is marketed as affordable EV. On the review I saw the extra complicated tailgate and front trunk. If they just made a normal front and rear trunk they would've saved even more money. A lot of EV companies don't seem to understand what they need to compete against. When I see a tail gate that disappears under the vehicle. First thing that comes to mind is how expensive is it going to be to fix it when it goes bad, because it will go bad. Make an EV that is simple, good range, good price, were people don't have to fear spending thousands of dollars if they get hit by shopping car. Make that car and it will sell fast. If first we have a reliable charging network that is affordable. I'll make a prediction on regards to that. By the time we have a reliable charging network it will cost as much if not more that using gas to charge your EV.
If its not in the US the title would be "Why Fisker cant compete with BYD" either way, even if its not as good its still far better than any combustion vehicle.
I do agree with your last sentence. EVs are far superior. However your first sentence is incorrect. For starters, Tesla Model Y is the best selling around the world, not just US, and Tesla sold more EVs worldwide than any other maker (no, BYD only outsold Tesla in Q4). The Fisker Ocean competes in price with the Model Y, not the BYDs. Tesla does not even make an EV in the majority of the BYD market, and the FIsker ain't in that category either. This is not me saying it, this is BYD themselves. By the way, BYD does not really make a profit on their EVs, so there's that. So title is correct.
@@BasementTracks The majority of BYD sales are hybrid cars (hybrids are not EVs, they're gas cars), cheap cars with little to no profit at all. Once Tesla announces and releases a cheap Model 2 they'll eat into all of BYD sales.
I applaud Fisker for trying to get affordable EVs into the market, however brands like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid might of had the right idea by starting upmarket then work their way down. You need volume sales in order to be profitable when you’re in the affordable arena.
It worked for Tesla because of their timing-- they were essentially the only game in town (excluding compliance cars like the Leaf) so they owned the market and could dictate prices. The same strategy is not working nowadays for Lucid, because the $100k EV luxury sedan segment is heavily saturated. Rivian is still an open question. They owned the lifestyle EV truck and (functional) 3-row SUV markets when they first came out, but quickly lost exclusivity for both of those and now must get their R2 (lower-priced offering) out ASAP to survive. All that to say, what worked for an EV startup in the recent past almost certainly won't work for an EV startup today. There's a reason so few new car companies are successful in modern times.
@@lifeinhd4053 will it work for every company no but it makes it a lot easier. When you start upmarket you making the most profit while selling fewer units and you use those profits to move downward. But when you start at the lower end of the market you’re making less profit per vehicle so to make it worth it you must sell high volumes of units. Fisker made average EV but not a great one. And when your product is average and it’s the same price as the gold standard Tesla, why would you choose Fisker?
@@DeadAir21 I understand the point of the strategy. I'm saying that strategy WILL NOT WORK going forward due to today's market conditions. You are correct, an average product up against the gold standard at the same price is not competitive. And that's why the most likely option for Fisker is failure, and why there are unlikely to be any more successful automotive startups (unless they receive SERIOUS and continuous outside investment).
I also hope that Fisker can continue as a company. Henrik's car designs are great. The Ocean according to customer reviews is actually a very good car, and said to be the worlds most sustainable car. This seems to get a bit lost in some of the negative press. The rumoured possible Nissan deal might really help both Nissan and Fisker.
The tax credit is available with leasing.. As with EVERY EV. Leasing is the only way you should want to get an EV anyway. The tech is changing so fast, why would you want to BUY and EV anyway?? I've seem several Oceans' on the road. Great looking car. Hope they survive
Yes, I just posted I love the way Fisker deigns their vehicles, especially the Ocean. Hmmm, leasing an EV seems like a good Idea with your point of view. 😉👍🏽
I’ve owned a MODEL X since 2016. Paid cash for it. In 8 years it’s never been serviced. It’s my wife’s daily driver. My kids won’t drive in my gas powered BMW X5M. Which just had a $3500 brake job at 47k that BMW called “normal wear and tear”. My Tesla MX won’t need a brake job for another 175,000 miles. This is why you would buy an EV.
Elon’s secretly obsessed with supply chains and most importantly manufacturing. His insight that “designing things is the easy part, making them is the hard part” is spot on. I’m sure they’re great cars but nothing about its story says dependability from a consumer perspective
It's not a secret, Elon Musk has bragged about how much he knows about vehicle manufacturing. His actual quote is "Prototypes are easy, production is hard", also "Production with positive cash flow is extremely hard." Fisker addressed the first part by a) "The Fisker Ocean SUV will use a modified version of a Magna-developed EV platform to power Fisker’s FM29 platform" then b) paying Magna to make its cars. But it struggles to achieve the positive cash flow part along with every other new wannabe EV maker (Aptera, Arrival, Canoo, Einride, ElectraMeccanica, Faraday Future, Mullen, Nikola, Phoenix Motors, Ree, Vinfast, Workhorse Group, XOS, etc.)
Elon also talks about economies of scale and getting through "the valley of death" to reach profitability. The video mentions that topic around the 11 minute mark. Car making is capital intensive and it sounds doubtful that Fisker will survive as an independent company. They will probably be acquired.
As an investor I really hope they do well. Not just for me but to keep a healthy competitive market. The Ocean is an attractive car and hope it receives the updates and supports it needs to be successful.
Fisker took for granted how hard it is to make a profitable ev. Like Elon always says, Ford and Tesla are the only US automakers to not go bankrupt. Sad to see ev companies folding, but it seems to be inevitable.
I hope they make it to the PEAR and survive after that, it's the most interesting vehicle for the cost. Forget spending even a neuron on the hypercar. First step is to get a real CFO though after these two late filings.
Need better marketing, I haven't heard of Fisker (or at least don't remember them) before this video. Didn't Tesla also almost failed? But I think they got the momentum to push through all their shortcomings, and was very lucky with government subsidies to make Tesla affordable when they were a younger company.
there is no marketing or name recognition behind the brand outside of people who like cars, you really need to appeal to the mass market, i could ask some random down the street and can guarantee they will not know this brand
I really want Fisker to be successful. I also love the design of their cars. Wished to the heavens that they don’t get into bed with Legacy Auto. Fighting!!
Ten years ago there was no competition. Now there are 90 ev maker just in China. If Nissan or someone else does not buy them, fisker will be broke soon.
@kuznacbendelejev6924 like the above mentioned said, they are NOT Tesla....Fisker doesn't manufacture anything. They're not even remotely vertically integrated.
If the marriage goes awry, the company can easily be halted due to a conflict of interests or divorce. Emotional relationships in C-suites never lead to good outcomes.

Really great video and interview! I think there’s still plenty to be optimistic about. A focus on logistics (that is vehicle delivery), the dealer model carrying more of the burden of sales, marketing, test drives and service, as well as consistent software updates that hit all cars and not a select few will keep things on track. Note when Fisker sells a vehicle, it does so at a profit, not a loss. No one else in the EV biz other than Tesla has been able to do that consistently and it took them a LONG time. Also, almost no other EV at any reasonable price point has the range of the Ocean. Henrik’s optimism and ignoring the naysayers is admirable and inspiring, though I agree it’s time for a new CFO and Henrik to move from CEO, to Chief Design Officer.
Good interview. Drove.an Ocean recently and have an order in the system. But will not purchase while the company is on shaky grounds. Who wants a car from a dead company? Now is Apple purchased them. That would be different.
JJ and the GOP was part of what killed the company Henrik started back when making the hybrid thing. The GOP made a big stink about government making loans for new businesses, essentially just like today they don't like anything the Dems do to go well so they sabotage. The GOP, hurricane Katrina flooding a lot of cars just arrived from Europe and their battery supplier going bust is what killed the Fisker back then. It was a really neat idea, but being a the bleeding edge of technology means bad luck x3 became to much.
Its telling how most of us are caustiously optimistic and thats being very generous. Quite honestly we are all thinking the same thing. His company is probably gonna go bust...again and its a damn shame cuz he's arguably one of the words finest automotive designers alive ..period
December 2011, Fisker Automotive recalled the first 239 Karmas delivered to the U.S. due to a risk of battery fire caused by coolant leak. Of the 239 cars, less than fifty had been delivered to customers, the rest were in dealerships. In the report filed by Fisker Automotive with the NHTSA, the carmaker said some hose clamps were not properly positioned, which could allow a coolant leak and an electrical short could possibly occur if coolant enters the battery compartment, causing a thermal event within the battery, including a possible fire.[51] In May 2012 a Fisker Karma was involved in a home fire that also burnt two other cars in Fort Bend County, Texas. The chief fire investigator said the Karma was the origin of the fire that spread to the house, but the exact cause is still unknown

Aesthetics is subjective but most people think that the Tesla Model S is rather classic. And most people believe the new model Highland is really good looking too. As for boring to drive no chance. Also no chance that Tesla's going to go bankrupt and leave you stranded in terms of support repair etcetera.
That Pear looks amazing.
Yeah, but how does it drive?
the car is awesome - very few issues since taking delivery, and fewer than my dads Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy that he took delivery of a few weeks prior to me.
@@patmanrickthe ocean has better specs, longer range, better practicality and usability than the model x and y
Fisker growing deliveries approx 300 % per quarter.. Heading to $ 1.2 billion to $ 2 billion in 2024 revenue/ Ocean sales expected.

He's a great designer, no question. As history has proven, he needs experienced automotive executives to run his business. I wish him well.
As an Ocean owner, I hope they succeed. It's a great car and can't wait to get the software updates to make the car even better.
Never heard of the company until now
Fisker should be right up there with Tesla, his designs are out of this world, I would really like to see him make it, also the truck looks really cool.
I love my Ocean, wouldn't trade it for anything. But would be nice not to have to worry about the company too....
Gotta admire the persistence
Fisker cars are probably the best looking ev's by FAR. Would be sad to see them go bankrupt. 😢

I would definitely get a Fisker instead of a Tesla

dont get me wrong... 2 of the 3 cars are nice vehicle aesthetically but other than that its gona be a nightmare for servicing, software, and anything else that doesnt function properly on the car.
You would regret it. Fisker is eye candy only but the technology integration is way behind Tesla. Tesla and Chinese EVs are proven.

Talk is cheap 😂
if they had 45,000 signed up for the ocean why can't they sell the remaining of the 10,000 cars? Did they only sell 4500 cars because someone added a digit by accident to how many orders they had or did they really lose the contact information to 41,500 people?
There were a lot of cancel orders after interest rate hike. Tesla discounting their cars also didn't help either.
Great product in the Ocean model, I hope everything works out.

If its not in the US the title would be "Why Fisker cant compete with BYD"
either way, even if its not as good its still far better than any combustion vehicle.
I applaud Fisker for trying to get affordable EVs into the market, however
brands like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid might of had the right idea by starting upmarket then work their way down.
Alaska looks cool.

Fisker took for granted how hard it is to make a profitable ev. Like Elon always says, Ford and Tesla are the only US automakers to not go bankrupt. Sad to see ev companies folding, but it seems to be inevitable.
