    Jay,
    I watched this, immediately went on Amazon and got the 1000W overnighted, and just now installed it with zero issues. Cable management in my 4000D case is now perfect. My new 4070 Ti now has the correct native connector, and I don't care about the slightly different sleeving. THANKS for your timely publishing of this video! I had been planning on increasing my 750W PSU already, so now all is good.

    I imagine when Cablemod makes custom cables for the Shift family of PSUs from Corsair, it's going to have pretty unique cable runs in certain cases. Possibly to the point of having to shorten one side of the cables in certain runs. With the number of O11 case builds, it's likely that they're going to have to think a little differently about that. Synergy gave Jay those special short run cables for his powerboard that had half one length and half slightly longer/shorter (depending on where you start) and if the cable runs are anywhere as short as that, it's gonna affect the cable flex.

      I was thinking about this while watching the video. It's a good concept and as Jay points out, I'm happy that companies are "innovating", even if it's something as "trivial" as moving the connectors from one side to another. A lot of case fitting issues would disappear if they had 90 degree cables instead of "regular" ones.

      @xpyr Рік тому

      The end of cables for a modular power supply are unique for that PSU and are not standardized between different brands, and even different models from the same company. So I doubt Cablemod would do that considering it would at worse, be only for that PSU, and at best, be for a range of models from that same company. You could kill your PSU if you don't use a compatible cable with the PSU. It's why when ordering replacements, you need to specify the model and not just the brand.

    • @disguiseddv8ant486
      @disguiseddv8ant486 Рік тому

      I don't understand why you think that there would be an issue with Cablemod custom cables for the Shift (when released) when Cablemod have their 'Custom Cable Configurator' for buyers to select from for each cable that ranges from 150mm to 1000mm. This is on the buyer and not Cablemod to decide the cable lengths for their particular case. There's nothing to think about on Cablemod end! And also, it's "Singularitycases" who supplied the Powerboard and their own custom cables design. But why would you bring up Singularitycases custom cables when it's an minority small amount of PC builders that would be concerned about the cable flex of their 100mm 24pin/EPS cable?

    If you're like me with an O11D Evo and don't use the drive cage, you can take it out and that gives you that entire upper section to cable manage the cables coming out of the unit. That is why I have been considering one of these new Corsair PSUs because my current unit has the standard "out the back" cabling, and it gets awfully tight with cable management. I mean it works and all, but you have to get a bit creative. So I do like this idea. Although, it would definitely be a case by case situation with it - as you demonstrated. I feel like this power supply would be ideal for a very skinny vertical case with mesh side panels so you could position it vertically and still get air flow with just enough bracket to hold it on the edges so the cables could go straight down or up. probably with some custom cables to handle the unique lengths.

  • @captain_loeffel
    @captain_loeffel Рік тому

    @JayzTwoCents with the Corsair Crystal Series 680X case you don't want to use this power supply at all. You can put it in without the cables but I doubt, that you will with the cables. The case is divided into two compartments and where the one with the motherboard has a normal width of 22cm, the other one for drives, power supply and so on is far smaller.
    So the power supply is laying on the side with its fan pointing to the side. Above the power supply are directly the drive cages. That is no problem, as the cables would face down. But you have not much space down. If you remove the 2,5" drive cage below the power supply, which is also use as rest for the supply, you would only have 4cm below the drive and you would have no chance of changing any cable (adding or removing) without completely remove the power supply and it would be a very tight fit down there.
    You can get the supply with cables in there, but the handling is horrible and you give up the space below the supply, that I personally used to stow away some of the longer cables, as there is enough space for 3 x 3,5" and 4 x 2,5" drives above the power supply.

But that makes Jay so AWESOME is this: He's very opinionated, based on experience, BUT HE'S NOT AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING EVEN IF HE THINKS IT WONT WORK, AND HE WILL CHANGE HIS OPINION BASED ON WHAT HE DISCOVERS AND HAS NO PROBLEM MODIFYING HIS APPROACH OR CHANGING HIS THOUGHTS ON AN ISSUE. He came into this fairly certain that he'd have all sorts of problems, but by the end, he gave the idea his endorsement because although he's OPINIONATED, he's also very open-minded. THAT is why I love jay. He's not afraid to speak his mind, AND not afraid to try new things and change his opinion based on what he finds. Perfect storm of good traits right there.

    It looks great. But is yet another cable standard with a different plug. Surely it is high time that cable connections to PSUs were standardised? Would be great if you could just simply buy a 12" or 18" SATA cable, for example, to fit your build and simplify cable management knowing it was going to fit because the plugs were as standard as an ATX 24 pin.

A process of elimination showed me which one was the culprit, so I removed and then it worked fine. Why did my last 750W work with that USB inserted, but this just didn't like it? So if you get the same issue, use the paper clip test, test all cables are connected and check your connected drives and accessories.

I had to unscrew those in order to make some room for the cables to bend and even then it was difficult to fully close the panel until the magnets made contact. The worst offender was the main motherboard cable. I had to unstick the individual cables from each other a bit in order to plug in both connectors. The actual panel is a bit bent outwards in the middle for me right now due to the cables being cluttered inside so I'm guessing I need to find a better solution to manage them.

      @@TheOriginalFaxon In an o11, if you mount it with fan side out, the cable ports stick up. This limits you to only being to mount this in the bottom most slot of an o11 but leaves the cables going upwards into the hard drive cage. I would rather mount my PSU at the top with the cables facing down, fan facing out, but that's not an option with this PSU. I could mount it at the bottom of the case with the cables facing upwards but not even that works for every build.

    According to Corsair you actually _can_ use the 12+4 pin with a 3070 Ti FE or higher. It won't work on a 3070 FE or lower because of how the port is positioned (the backplate blocks where the 4-pin would go), but 3070 Ti and higher have an angled port. According to corsair the 12 pin is the exact same spec, the 4-pin sensor simply allows for more features and higher power throughput. They said if it detects the 4-pin isn't plugged in, it reduces the max power to 450w, which is more than enough for all 30 series GPUs if I recall correctly. I asked a Corsair rep before I bought it, so this clarification comes from them.
    I will say though, I love this power supply. Also, either side of the cable is a different size so you automatically know which side goes into the PSU and which side goes into the motherboard components. The cables also seem thinner, I guess due to a lack of in-cable capacitors, but this allows for easier cable management.
    Corsair also told me that "universal extension cables" that work with other PSUs should technically work with these cables as well, but I didn't want to buy extensions. I'd rather wait for them to release whole sleeved cables for Type 5 Gen 1. Extensions are always risky business.

    From what I see, JayzTwoCents is showing the Corsair RMX Shift PSU's are not really made to standard which affects most computer cases.
    Granted, there are hundreds of different cases out there, and maybe some will work fine with this RMx PSU, but the ones that obviously fit perfectly to this PSU are the Corsair 7000D, 5000D and (I think) the 4000D cases.
    I know this because I have the 5000D RGB Airflow case and did have the Corsair RM1000x Shift PSU in my computer case and the side wire mount feature worked wonderfully.
    The only problem was, the RM1000x PSU, being brand new (2.5 months old), shorted out (for no reason) a couple of days ago, showing it was a defect unit.

    12:00 I'd argue that you don't need slack for the cables on the O11 to have access to them. The cables being on top allow you to rotate the PSU so the top part of it would be easily accessible, and the amount of cable that you need so your run reaches the PSU on top is already enough slack IMO. Also, isn't this new PSU a bit narrower so the cables do have some extra space for cables to fit?

    Honestly, this would seem to work well in a Corsair Graphite 380T (old niche case I know) with a little modding of making a cutout on the side where the cables come out on the support plate. This way it's easier to put a high wattage PSU in and still being able to use your 3,5" bays instead of using a SFF PSU. There is quite some dead space in the case on that side that it might be worth it depending on how far into the chassis the plugs extend.

    I have a beQuiet dark power ... 11? 10? with 750W with sleeved cables. Getting this into the O11 Dynamic when using all cables the PSU supports was "an endeavor". The fact you had to sort the cables out from inside, from the only place you can cable manage in the first place, while the sleeved cables stick to each other like glue was hand cramp inducing.
    Seeing this PSU with the cables in that case coming out the top, which is space currently in my build completly unused is rather nice.
    Tho I doubt the O11 Dynamic was designed with the consideration of people actually using all the thing can do at the same time. I.e. 2 SSDs, 2 HDDs and upright GPU mount, and a Lian Li control box, which all together leave little options how to arrange the backside. (And the updated version of the O11 we saw at some point, which adresses such things, dunno if that's out yet, showed that the design wasn't optimal)
    Having to use PSU cables that have I think 1 SATA and 2 molex adapters because the PSU did not deliver enough SATA only cables did not make it any easier.

    P.S. please stop whining about iCUE cabling. I prefer the iCUE connectors because they include a latch that prevents them from coming apart. Additionally, the iCUE connection is not proprietary. It is a standard Molex connector and it uses the same 3 conductors (5V + Data + Gnd) as the standard RGB connector. This means you can plug ANY RGB component into an iCUE controller and it will work. The pinouts for these connectors are available online (L T T For umz). Adapters from 4-pin to 3-pin are easy to make and they are available for purchase online as well.

On the side panel with the connectors you'd have a socket for the card edge, a large 12v plane on the top, a large ground plane on the bottom and a smaller 5v plane. 4 screws would hold it on and you could easily swap the sides.
