What a voice! Incredible talent.
There was a LOT more to this man than 'Poke Salad Annie'......
Rest in peace. Feels like it's raining all over the world today.
In my humble opinionone of the Most Beautiful Songs Every Written, Thanks for the Video. 🎸🎸👍
Doesn’t get any better than this! Thank you Tony Joe, you will not be forgotten.
I'm a late bloomer catching on to Tony....after 75 years , he's one of the best ...hope he comes back.
Sorry, but he's dead. Don't worry, he didn't stop being him until the end. I've just found him too, so glad I'll be able to delve through so much richly authentic music
I'm 76yrs. young and I just not only learned who wrote this beautiful song, but actual story behind it as told by Tony Joe White himself. He has a beautiful soulful voice ❤❤❤❤❤

The blues is written from the heart. This blues song comes from the heart of a man missing his woman, blues from a lonely heart. TJ White wrote the song, Brooke Benton made it famous, TJ put his heart and soul into the performance. I still get chills when I listen to it. Thank you, TJ White.
Lord have mercy, that's such a beautiful soulful song! And Tony had such an appealing, rich voice. RIP Tony
VERY FORTUNATE THAT Brook Benton...decided to make this song immortal..
RIP You were fantastic, an authentic blues man.
I did not know he wrote this tune. pure awesome.
Leon Russell did it,he wrote THE SONG,one massive hit synonymsis with him.He said if you can just write one song like that you are lucky, you've made it.TJW did it with this song.RIP
Tony Joe White wrote it and gave it to Brook Benton. Originally. Listen to Tony Joe White describe the writing of this song.
This song was originally recorded and released by him in 1969. It was laid out differently, but it was non-the less great! This 1980 live version is nothing short of perfection.
R.I.P Legend ❤
Gotta love the way Tony Joe plays that old Fender Stratocaster like it was a natural part of him.... He made it look so easy.... Even while playin’ that ole harp, too!
..indeed and he's singing the song in between as well !
It is a rainy night in Georgia, even Heaven is crying over the loss of Tony Joe.
You ain't lying Wendell, a legend indeed. Loved the dude down here in texas
true soo sad !
As masterful as the greatest artists.
I first heard this song, like most of us, by Brook Benton, then I backtracked to find out who wrote this masterpiece. Lord, what a songwriter, what a singer. I miss you so much, my friend. I feel like it's raining all over the world.
Same
Agreed
Cheers 🍷
I love the mellow relaxing vibe of this performance.

You leading for Joe Cocker at the Tower in Philly was awesome.

This is from when the show Austin City Limits was good. Back in college I did not have money to go out. So on Saturday night I would get me a quart of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, $1.14, and watch Austin City Limits.
Tony Joe White - his own version of Rainy Night in Georgia - Excellent Version too!
Tony Trotta - It’s the best version I have ever heard him play live, with a real vintage Fender Stratocaster! His guitar 🎸 playing was unique, as his singing 🎤.
He was and is a true legend.

AWESOME TALENT !
The late Tony Joe White would have been 76 today-i got his first album,1969's Black and White when it came out-his biggest hit,Polk Salad Annie, was on it-it went to #8 on Billboard. He wrote it and this one also.Haven't listened to him in years-i just learned that he died last year. When he sings those low notes,i get goosebumps.I'd forgotten how great he was.R.I.P.,Tony.

Excellent artist and such a sexy man.
Sleep softly..
Australia 🌿
This is a complete story.
I realize he wrote this fabulous song but the way Brook Benton sang it took it to another level. Just like Glen Campbell did the same with Gentle On My Mind. Respect to the songwriters but certain people are just born to sing certain songs.
You go that right!
He passed away I think 2012
I have a very rare recording ofJimmy Powell doing this song.thanks to Anthony mankin.
Ray Drury Sheffield.
Randy Crawford version is good too,,also Author price Rock..

What year is this concert?
Mid 70s ?
@@argylesoxx Appreciate it.
Jon Burrows - it was 1980
You know, in the video, Merle Haggard said he felt Tony was lazy because Tony would not tour with him. That really made me angry when I saw that. Tony had talent Merle could only dream of. Plus, maybe Tony had more discipline to not spend so much time drunk or otherwise messed up like Merle did. I appreciate Merle......but, Tony was on a much higher level as a musician/performer. Merle depended on redneck-hillbilly flimflam to make his mark. There was and remains a HUGE difference.
