I grew to really like this Steinhart thanks to this review and others on the tube. I really like how Steinhart is tackling great icons with great price and quality to back that up.
I just bought the (hard to find) 39mm Steinhart Olko edition of this watch : magnifier on the date, 20mm lug width, 16mm at the buckle and no "faux lume patina". Perfect size for this watch and it runs at a stunning -0.67 second day. I love it !
Great review. I have just ordered a Steiny Pepsi GMT, after wearing an Ceramic Ocena One for about a year, but I really like this one as well. I have been trying to kick the watch habit for over 20 years but there is something about wristwatches, especially automatics and very unique Quartz watches that I love. I wear no jewelry or accessories so the watch is what I choose to love. I just subscribed to your channel. I like that you review both luxury brand and micro brand watches, and can honestly say that watches like Steinhart are not pretentious and we all know that there are better places to spend your income. Life us expensive. When we have quality homages to choose from we should really enjoy them.
man I like it too! I think this is where the homage market is worth it's money! I mean not a whole lot of people can pay the 23000 eur which the original rolex is priced at!
TGV, I’m so glad your healthier and happier now in your videos. The difference is quite massive! I admire your courage and perseverance. Nevertheless, great video and useful as always. Cheers 🥂
Steinhart is making very high quality watches. I know him personally, because he is a good friend of my dad. Steinhart told me that his watches have a higher quality than a rolex or a breitling because he uses better screws which are more expensive but he really wants to sell ultra high qualitiy watches. He also designed his own Geneva stripes with 18 lines. This is not normal, too because many other watches like Rolex etc. hasn´t as much Geneva stripes like the Steinharts does. That are not the only things which are better then other hiqh quality watches, but i am from Germany and my English is not that good :) Have fun with your Steinhart watch, I got the new STEINHART "MILITARY 42" and I like it very much. I really can recommend the STEINHART "MILITARY 42". I hope I did give you more information about the Steinhart watches with this comment, because many people don´t know how nice Steinhart watches are.
***** Great post. Do you think Steinhart watches will increase in value in time to come? For instance a time will come when they will cost 1500-2000 each?
I have the fauxtina version in 39mm, however, this version of the watch in the video is neither that, nor the olko edition with white indicies. This would be the preferred one for me if it was atill made, and if they had made it in 39mm. I would prefer it over crisp white indicies with bgw-9, and over fauxtina with old radium lume. Not everyone realises there is this third indicie and lume style, i think it is the best out of the three, not super modern with blue lume and perfect white indicies, but also not faux aged either, more NOS new old stock, I'm not sure if Mr Steinhart would consider making this lume version again but in 39mm?
Just bought the Steinhart Ocean 1 GMT Pespi ... it's amazing. For the price point $800 CAD .. I'm truly blown away by the quality. Has an ETA 2893 movment?!? .. and looks great. Sure it's kinda trying to be a Rolex .. but it's enough it's one thing to feel unique. Very happy with it.
Great review Tristano. That watch looks so well put together. Steinhart has me reevaluating the money I've spent on watches over my collecting career. The Sea Hunter should keep in line with that quality level. By the way Sea Hunter is a preliminary name :)
Nice review, I'm not familiar w/ the original but boy is this a beauty! Love that dial and the beveled edge of the crystal. Amazing details for the price.
I do not prefer diver watches, but the design & quality appearance of this Steinhart seems worth considering. Watch looks natural with NATO strap. Very nice presentation.
Mine will be here on Wednesday according to FedEx. Can't wait! This is my 2nd Steiny, I also have an O1V on a dark brown Horween strap that I just love.
I have 2 Steinharts🎉 Both eta 2824-2 Flieger 44 mm B Type Ocean forty-four ceramic diver One is 8 sec acurate One is 12 sec Love them both. Bought them second hand. Both older than 4 or 5 years. Working perfect and i paid 500 euros for both. Unscratched and with their boxes. Although i own several vintage poljot, sturmanskie sputnik, casio, seiko 5s, and a panerai I still love the feel and looks of my steinharts🥰 Unbeatable experience for the paid price. I will for sure buy steinhart no 3 watch. Maybe a different flieger watch with a transparent back case🥰🍀
Love this homage to the Rolex II explorer , it just has such a distinctive look to it. Ordered mine already so can't wait to see it in the flesh . I think mine will have to go on a nato too. Great review TGV , appreciate the thoughts and emotions that go into your reviews - cheers !
Hi enjoyed the review, iam seriously considering getting one, but be honest does the homage thing bother you? Was this another reason for getting rid of it, I know it is bigger than you normally like but only just. I wouldn't ever consider a homage normally but this watch is stunning and I will never be able to buy the real thing! Thanks in advance.
Oli Smith just some perspective as I am an older guy. I worked many years for Basel based Pharmaceutical Giants, as well as Bauer for a bit. Would taking a generic drug, when you are sick bother you? Of course not. Almost all Pharmaceutical corporations and all the Giants win one or more generic companies, and usually hold stake in a biotech firm. The big companies introduced the drugs to market after discovering the drug and doing all the R&D. In exchange, regulatory agencies give the exclusive patent rights, which have a fixed term. As the latent is set to expire, generic producers worldwide are using gas chromatography to try to come up with the exact ingredients and hope to formulate a generic, that will provide the same bioavailability. If they can show a study that their generic provides the same bioavailability then they may sell their generic formulation according to market determined prices. Usually the big original company has already made an exact generic to gain a jump on the competition, but scale back brand production, in order to fund R&D for newer ideas. It's business. It happens in technology, automobiles, motorcycles.. in Central America families are riding around on motorbikes made by Chinese and Indian brands that are copies of 1970s Honda and Yamaha motorbikes in the 125-250cc range. Usually the Chinese and Indian motorcycles need a decent lubrication fluids change out. They need to have a few screws replaced with better made screws and have some locktite added but thus isn't costing Honda or Tamaha customers as they have moved on to newer motorbikes that are cutting edge and much more profitable. Same with new drugs for different diseases. The same should hold true with wristwatches. Some companies are building more complications while Tigre's are relying on precious metal incorporation, bezel insert ceramic etc, but spending about 10-15x what you would pay for a good homage is a waste of resources. Buying a vintage puede, less so. Remember in life that the most sincerest form of flattery is to copy something or just modify what already is proven. This is all built in and that is what patents are about. This will not bankrupt Rolex but it may help younger people start to save in order to buy a new innovative release from Rolex when their university loans are paid off and their lifestyles and economics allow for thus. I used to wear genuine Omegas and a few other brands. I still have a Gerard Perragaux, but I have sold off most of my original branded watches as I have other expenses like healthcare, mortgages, children finishing up university and I line to solo travel more and gave really enjoyed AirBnB in unusual places where I don't worry about being robbed because somebody desires a Rolex or Omega. I do hold on to a Bond Omega and a few tigers but really love Steinhart, Squale, Helson, and a few others that continue to fuel my watch enthusiasm, while letting me slender my resources on needed things. Brands are so much about keeping up with "that guy," in the office and pettiness. If you gave the resources and love originals then ve happy. I personally love well craft homage watches.
This watch looks great, but I worry a bit about having a mis-aligned GMT hand. I have read many posts by others about the mis-aligned GMT hand on this ETA 2893-2 movement, and there is even one post below with that observation. Seems disappointing that such a problem could be common on a movement that is specifically designed to support a GMT hand. Any others experience that problem with this watch? I previously experienced the same problem on a Breitling Colt GMT, which has the same movement.
Sorry, because qhere I read said that steinhart starts at 2010. About the movement, I know that is a good one. I really liked this watch. Thanks for help me, Joshi Oyabun
I'm revisiting this video as Gnomon/Steinhart have just announced a limited edition with acrylic dome and patina lume. Originally I was concerned about the size and didn't get one but may be compelled to now.
Great review TVG! I have been looking for a review on this piece for awhile and your is about the only one I have seen worth mentioning. I started my watch collecting with 2 steinhart models a few yrs back, namely the OVM and the Pepsi rolex homage. I flipped them both and got 95% of my cash back. Of all the watches I miss from flipping that OVM is top of the list, pure joy! Steinhart is a great brand but not omega or rolex quality with respect to attention to detail and movement but they certainly aren't that far behind and are the best bang for buck out there. As a matter of curiosity have you ever checked out Christopher Ward watches? Similar to steinhart but they have a few unique models like the C900 Single Pusher Chronograph
Jonathan Ellard Wow, thats really cool to hear about the good resale value. I am glad you liked the review, and with regards to Cward, I recently got asked the very same question and I addressed it in the latest "casual sunday" segment. Not to give much away, but there will be a Cward in my collection soon. Hopefully before Xmas, I am currently mulling over what model to go for or another steiny.... just enjoying the hunt for a next piece really so no rush. :D
Really enjoy your channel... I like how you explain your thought process in deciding to purchase a particular piece. I've always had mixed feelings with homage watches, because I feel that if the reason i like something is because it looks like something else I prefer to own the real thing. I think the exception would be in cases like the model in this video that are homages to models no longer in production and finding the real one is not realalistic. For me that's the milsub and I'm really considering the Steinhart OVM. Thanks for the video!
This is the 3rd. variation of this watch and never saw it before. So far I own this 42mm no cyclops Steini with quite dark yellow indices and a 39mm cyclops having bright white indices. This variation now in 2021 made seven years ago has an interesting different color scheme and is something in the middle of bright white and yellow. Nice, nice, nice... - think I'll take a closer look at second hand market looking for this model. I love to wear this watch. Even if I own a "few" different this model is my daily rocker on 5 of 7 days for a long time. What I'm personally curious about is, if you still hold this watch in your collection and if you give it wrist time. I cant stay away from it looking for one in the morning...
Great review TGV. I'm really warming up to these Steinharts. I like the regular Ocean 1 GMT pepsi; but with these vintage models, the 70's cool factor is off the scale! Why don't Omega offer the wedge shape luminescent hour markers anymore? Looks great with the olive NATO style strap too, ideal for some rough shooting or outdoor sports. ATB
This is really a lovely watch, great combination of NATO straps. They're currently out of stock until June 2015. Where did you get your NATOs? So many on eBay and wonder about the quality
Andrea Crema Hi Andrea, I will do a new Nato vid soon. Just working something out with a supplier so I can find the best quality and price for me viewers ;-) Stay tuned Best regards, TGV
Two weeks ago I received the Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT from Steinhart. I immediately realised that the GMT hand is misaligned and that GMT time was lagging 20 minutes behind. I returned the watch to them so they could fix the problem. I received the watch a few days later and GMT time is still lagging behind, by 12 minutes.
Not everyone realises there is this third indicie and lume style, i think it is the best out of the three, not super modern with blue lume and perfect white indicies, but also not faux aged either, more NOS new old stock
Hi TGV, Just orderded one at steinhart. Very very curious how it stands up against my rolie no date. Btw love your newest aquisition the Sinn. Outstanding and beautifull looking piece. I am in love with the 903 st but havent had the guts to order one for the last two years :-(. Keep up the good work and cheers from the netherlands 😉
Hi Tristano, just one question, if you have to choose between steinhar gtm vintage (505€) and hamilton khaki field (340€), which one will you buy? you use and prove both of them, so you know better than anyone which one is the best choise. Thank you
Greetings TGV, great reviews :-) I have a question. In your opinion, since Steinhart is fairly a new company do you see it becoming an Omega, or Rolex level company in the future? I know these are homage time pieces but would these homage time pieces hold their value? Are they worth holding on to pass down to the next generation? I think if Steinhart were to develop it's own designs yet keep it's quality. This would take this company to the next level.
I just "found" steinhart watches, and it looks to me a really nice watche, I'm looking the ocean one military, witch is a homage to the rolex 5517, and I have two questions. Do you guy think thats is a nice thing to have a homega watch? And (once again) is it woth take the risk buying a "new" company's watch? Like this
New company? Steinhart is 12 years on the market. Its all about the great Eta movement. This movement is more then 30 years on the market. Buy a steinhart..specially the vintage milatry. buy this watch:)
Nice watch & review Tristano! It is very you (it looks a bit similar to the Oris). I've been thinking Steinhart as well lately.. ;-) Unpretentiousness is the future...
Guideaux Pelagos Cheers GP. You should get a steiny!!! I am sure you would completely love it and they are not too far away from you and as for a "unpretentious" future, I could not agree more!!!
The Urban Gentry I like the Arctic Ocean II, as well as the Ocean II with the white luminescent dial and bracelet...wow! If that came with an open case back...I'm in!
peleti027 Thanks peleti, yes I agree its expensive for a "homage" but once you get it in your hands you will feel and see where that extra money went and personally I think its justified ;-)
Great review. Great watch. What are your thoughts now, since its been some time and since thomxx has hated out Steinhart brand in one of his later videos?
***** Hi Milan. Thank you for the compliment. I actually answered this very question in further videos I made a little while after this video. Hope that helps, Thanks for watching. Best regards, TGV
Sorry to hear that. Then again this is a very old video and I didn't have hardly any subscribers back then. They may of simply changed it since then. Thank you Arthur, Best regards, TGV
What? All my watches have solid end links, and some are less than $150. That watch is fantastic, and I want one desperately. Lend us some money governor
abelsincain Thanks mate, The Orange is indeed a cheapo, I go through them like nothing with my active lifestyle. However the Olive one was quite expensive RAF one and a thicker grade and has lasted years and years. I love it! :D
The Urban Gentry Try putting a Hirsch Carbon water proof strap or a mesh bracelet on it, that will dress it up a bit. I have a Staib mesh bracelet on my Longines Legend Diver and it is one of the most comfortable wearing straps/bracelets I have ever found.
The Urban Gentry Wish you would review watches as they are delivered. If you showed it on a Steinhart rubber as an alternative it would be nice to see, along with shots of stock bracelet.
LOL forgive, this was a long time ago. Check out my newer ones. If you would like I can help you understand the bezel, it is simply a 24 hour scale to read the GMT hand. Thanks for watching, Best regards, TGV
Buddy Shadd As I have explained in various watch videos. The gloves are extremely useful when handling high polished objects in macro shooting mode. Without the gloves, finger prints and tiny amounts of moisture show up on the surfaces and can be irritating to watch so for best results I always wear gloves regardless If the watch is $100 or $30k. Hope that helps, Regards, TGV
I grew to really like this Steinhart thanks to this review and others on the tube. I really like how Steinhart is tackling great icons with great price and quality to back that up.

I know this video is dated, but damn, I like this watch!
man I like it too! I think this is where the homage market is worth it's money! I mean not a whole lot of people can pay the 23000 eur which the original rolex is priced at!
So do I !
I just bought one without watching this video. I’m glad I made the right choice.
TGV, I’m so glad your healthier and happier now in your videos. The difference is quite massive! I admire your courage and perseverance.
Nevertheless, great video and useful as always.
Cheers 🥂

Great watch. Quality German engineering AGAIN.
Thank you for the information. They certainly look like very great watches.

Great review Tristano. That watch looks so well put together. Steinhart has me reevaluating the money I've spent on watches over my collecting career. The Sea Hunter should keep in line with that quality level. By the way Sea Hunter is a preliminary name :)
I've been screaming reevaluating spending money for watches/phones/cars for years!
Are the lumes yellow like pictured on the official website? In this video they look white
Ha ha! I was correct. A Steinhart. Beautiful looking watch and never owned that brand but seriously thinking of ordering one as well.
capitalfreedompower Nice. You should go for it! They really are great, I still cant get over it.
Got the Olko Steinhart 39 mm version
It’s perfect
Mine will be here on Wednesday according to FedEx. Can't wait!
This is my 2nd Steiny, I also have an O1V on a dark brown Horween strap that I just love.
That's a very nice, well made watch.. that second hand is so buttery smooth in motion.
This isn’t a bad video, but it’s crazy how far you have come...
This may very well be the best looking of all the Steinhart watches.
Add a cyclops and it would be perfect. Steinhart are the bomb!
I have 2 Steinharts🎉
Both eta 2824-2
Flieger 44 mm B Type
Ocean forty-four ceramic diver
One is 8 sec acurate
One is 12 sec
Love them both. Bought them second hand. Both older than 4 or 5 years.
Working perfect and i paid 500 euros for both. Unscratched and with their boxes.
Although i own several vintage poljot, sturmanskie sputnik, casio, seiko 5s, and a panerai
I still love the feel and looks of my steinharts🥰
Unbeatable experience for the paid price.
Good value for those interested in the 1655 style but not the collector's price!
555 Gear Hit the nail on the head. Thanks 555.
I got a OLKO limited edition 39mm version and it's the best thing I've done!
This NATO strap matches so well with the watch !
Ocean 2, up there with the SKX as the best value watch to date. ETA movement. Bread and butter.

Congrats Diane! Dying to have a look at them, so glad they came out with a 39mm. Keep me posted on how it goes.
Thank you,

Very nice, white face model would be nice. But this looks like a great watch for a reasonable price.
James Parus Thanks James, yes a white face would be interesting indeed!
A NATO strap is completely wrong with that watch. A 22mm bracelet is the correct size for a 42mm watch. Stunning watch
Great review TGV. I'm really warming up to these Steinharts. I like the regular Ocean 1 GMT pepsi; but with these vintage models, the 70's cool factor is off the scale!
Try setting the gmt hand while the other hands are showing a full hour mark. For instance at 10:00 or 11:00, not a minuta later. Give it a try.
Love the original Explorer! The only drawback is the fixed bezel, for the 3rd time zone.✈🌐
I am considering buying this watch.
Terrific review. Well done.
I love Steinhart. I have a flieger and love it.
Great looking watch, did you purchase it directly from Steinhart, and if you did, how long did it take them to make delivery?
Charles Ford Thanks Charles. Yes, I ordered straight from them in Germany. It took just over a week. They Stated 8 to 12 days.
Not everyone realises there is this third indicie and lume style, i think it is the best out of the three, not super modern with blue lume and perfect white indicies, but also not faux aged either, more NOS new old stock
Hi TGV,
Just orderded one at steinhart.
Another great review! thank you! I am sure you reference, but where do you typically get your zulu straps?
Bach's fugue from the second lute suite :)
Hi Tristano,
just one question, if you have to choose between steinhar gtm vintage (505€) and hamilton khaki field (340€),
which one will you buy?
you use and prove both of them, so you know better than anyone which one is the best choise.
Thank you
TGV any thoughts on the Ocean 39 or the ceramic gmt 39? Which of the two would you recommend?
The lumes on this one look whiter than on website pictures. Any idea why?
Hmm, I badly want one of these now.
Of course, Steinhart is the next Rolex, vertically integrated, inventions poppping up and all that, just a matter of time.
I've been thinking Steinhart as well lately.. ;-)
Unpretentiousness is the future...
Beautiful!
Jethro Roissing Thank you Jethro!
Best regards,
TGV
Was wondering if still had the steinhart? If so any interest in selling.
Nice review man!
vettefever67 Cheers Vette!
It's like an Glycine Airman #1 and a Rolex Explorer II had a baby!
Haha, very true, never noticed that before buy you are so right.
Thank you Mark,
Best regards,
TGV
Mark Lagares exactly what I thought
What company did that strap come from? The green one.
Hi
greetings from Toronto.
could you possibly review the ocean 1 GMT please.
thank yoy
Nice review
Expensive homage
peleti027 Thanks peleti, yes I agree its expensive for a "homage" but once you get it in your hands you will feel and see where that extra money went and personally I think its justified ;-)
Good, honest review.
Thank you Andy, very kind.
Best regards,
TGV
Are the steinhart water resistance 300 saturation diver ?? Iso6425??
That looks top draw. On par with Omega, Tag and Breitling in terms of build quality and finish, just add another $4000 for those brand names.
Stewart Craig Thanks Stewart. I have to agree there, and saving 4k makes me sleep easier too!
Best regards,
TGV
no lume shot?!
Idiots that think Steinharts are submariner rip offs need to see this. Beautiful watch at a great price and far more interesting than most Rolexes.
I love Steinhart but your argument is false because this is a Rolex 1655 homage.
Rolex Explorer II 1655 = Steinhart Vintage GMT
pls check facts befor talking
Is this a limited version coz I can't find it in the link
It is not a standard Steinhart packaging. Only if you run a UA-cam channel. If you don't, the watch is delivered in a very cheap paper box.
Sorry to hear that. Then again this is a very old video and I didn't have hardly any subscribers back then.
They may of simply changed it since then.
Thank you Arthur,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry I've just received one and it cam in the faux leather box.
@@decy63 So did I. Got mine in the last month.
Great review
vc15 Cheers VC!
For what is the 24;s number on bezel?
Citizen X Hi,
Its for the GMT hand/second time zone or you can set it to display the same time but in 24 hours.
Thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry Hello, is the watch self winding?
Nips me that watch manufacturers have the N0 24 on a dial or bezel. For timing purposes there is and never has been 2400hrs. 2359.....0000.
Paul Geddes This is a GMT bezel. Used for keeping track of time in 2 time zones.
Did you end up selling it? Afterthoughts?
+mikkol79 Yes, it was too large for me, I covered this in various WWT episodes.
Thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
Yeah I got some catching up to do with your videos.. Thanks!
It looks exactly like the Squale ATMOS GMT ..... Which it's not a bad thing .
Thomgxx100. Everyone needs a little Greek :)
Apo Piso :)
What? All my watches have solid end links, and some are less than $150. That watch is fantastic, and I want one desperately. Lend us some money governor
Nice watch, but the colored straps look cheap.
abelsincain Thanks mate, The Orange is indeed a cheapo, I go through them like nothing with my active lifestyle.
I personally prefer the ocean 44 GMT piece :-)
LP9006 I dont blame you, great watch. If I had the wrists for it I would have one myself.
Thanks for sharing,
Best regards,
TGV
you are a nato men!! great videos thanks you
Rural gentry with a 9k gold ring, was that the funniest line ever or what?
I love it nice watch
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry wrest size, please
does the bezel turn?
+Flesh in the Blood No, like the Rolex it is based on, I believe it is fixed.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Why the love for Nato?
So many reasons, check my videos about them ;-)
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry Wish you would review watches as they are delivered. If you showed it on a Steinhart rubber as an alternative it would be nice to see, along with shots of stock bracelet.
what acheap watch ubought ?
Too bad Rolex does not have money in the budget to provide a case back like this.
I'm having one of those, gees my collection has lost all direction haha
motboy2 Dont blame you, they are great. I only wish I had the wrist to do this justice. It is dearly missed.
Thank you the comment.
Best regards,
TGV
Famous by Steve McQueen? That was the Rolex Daytona...
+Bill Cavazos You're thinking of Paul Newman.
What's with all of the smacking in the background when you pause you speech?
Sorry, it must of been raining when I filmed this. It is the sound of the rain hitting the window.
Thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
Want to hear you do a karaoke version of mrs brown you've got a lovely daughter! Would be a gas!@
What kind of review doesn't even address the 'bezel'?
LOL forgive, this was a long time ago. Check out my newer ones.
If you would like I can help you understand the bezel, it is simply a 24 hour scale to read the GMT hand.
Thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
Wow talk about value for money it look amazing
Thanks
lord david Cheers David!
Shame it's not 40mm.
+Michael Orme A shame indeed!
Thank you Michael,
Best regards,
TGV
Why are you wearing kid gloves to handle a $500 watch. You do WEAR it, no?
Buddy Shadd As I have explained in various watch videos. The gloves are extremely useful when handling high polished objects in macro shooting mode. Without the gloves, finger prints and tiny amounts of moisture show up on the surfaces and can be irritating to watch so for best results I always wear gloves regardless If the watch is $100 or $30k.
Hope that helps,
Regards,
TGV
Point taken. I have that watch. It's versatile, though I prefer the bracelet.
You have wrists like woman.
