    I have been helping my brother with his firearms that got flooded during Hurricane Milton in Florida. His SOCOM M1A is outfitted with numerous picatinney rails and red dot. I had to take EVERYTHING apart and stripped down due to the rust being deep throughout the rifle! This video series helped me get it cleaned and back in service! I've never worked on an M1A before, but I am a Ruger Armorer and they are so similar! Made it easy!! Thank you!

    I always figured the M1A would be a pain to disassemble/reassemble like the Mini-14 is. This looks easy breezy in comparison!

    The good thing is that the most you'll probably ever have to take these guns down, is just pulling the barreled action out of the stock. And all there is too that is yanking the trigger guard down, and lifting the action up and forward. Other than that you probably never have to take anything else further apart.

    I've always thought that the safety should be on (pushed inside the trigger guard) before removing the trigger assembly. You show the safety off (outside the trigger guard). Does it make any difference?

    • @SabotSender
      @SabotSender 6 років тому +5

      I just did it with the safety off. Luckily nothing happened but if you were to accidentally squeeze the trigger assembly and the hammer fell, it might do some damage to you.

    Can't quite get my op rod out of the receiver, any tips or tricks for that? Definitely did not pop out as easy as the video. Maybe I missed something but I've played this over and over again. Other than that, this definitely made cleaning a breeze. Thanks.

      I had same problem, there is a video on UA-cam on how to remove a stuck op rod on m1a. Check it out. He uses a gunsmith hammer and a screwdriver. It works perfectly and does no damage, just make sure you have it lined up correctly before doing it.

      @@Eric_the_miserable_midget saw that one I was just a little concerned about damage, but I mean if it works for you and others I'll give it a run. When I pick up a gunsmith hammer lol

    What's the deal with the painted fiberglass stocks?

    • @einfussganger
      @einfussganger 6 років тому +6

      You mean the handguards? Very early M14 stocks were wood, but the wood split under the heat of full auto fire, so the US switched to fiberglass, some closed and some vented. Iron-sight users sometimes complain about heat mirage affecting their sighting with the open top design (and dirt and grime can get in there too), so the most popular solution was the closed fiberglass top handguard. Springfield uses, yes, a plastic top, which I also found off-putting. I went with a black slotted/vented top on mine that I picked up as military surplus.

    Is there a way to get the plastic hand guard off the Rifle with out taking it apart ?

    • @brownells
      @brownells  8 років тому +3

      It is best to do a proper field strip to remove the handguard.

    Idk why but my m1a trigger assembly won't come out of the stock while trying to take it apart. I bought it yesterday brand new at my local Rulal King and I'm planning on putting a scope mount on it for a scope but some reason I'm having trouble taking it apart. Is it because it's new

    • @philgilz1821

      I just ordered mine and I'm worried about the scope mount getting in the way of disassembly. Please let me know if that becomes a problem

    • @broskie5255
      @broskie5255 4 роки тому +1

      @@philgilz1821 the scope mount won't get in the way. I've seen people taking theirs apart and it having the scope mount still attached. What my problem is on mine is that everything seems tight on the stock and nothing want's to come out so I can take the stock off so I can get started putting a scope mount on it. To be able the put the mount on it you have to take the stock off and flip it upside down and knock out the pin that's in the stripper clip mount because the stripper clip mount has to come off. But some people's M1A don't come with the stripper clip mounts and don't have to deal with that but mine came with a stripper clip mount that's alright install to the gun
