This is a cool looking scoop and it was fun to watch you make it. "We're going to get a little crazy in 2021." My friend, that is a journey that you took a loooooong time ago. Thanks for the video. Stay safe.
hot tip, if you tilt the table of the band saw a small amount, say about 5 degrees, when you slide the handle portion back it will wedge itself into the scoop portion leaving you with fewer gaps to fill. Love the scoops and can't wait to get a copy of the new book. Keep having fun, that's what this is all about!
I think the textures really set these scoops off. One looks like an artistic pattern of wood that's had bugs borrow through it (in a good way), another looks like a bark pattern, and the third looks like something that's seen some real wear and tear over time. All beautifully inspired and gorgeous to look at
Please use everything you have to make your projects! I love seeing the creativity that comes from using new tools and the potential possibilities of them. Also, I want to low key live vicariously through you and see what this awesome new technology can do! If I end up wanting to make it too, I get to then have fun solving the puzzle of doing it myself with my tools and skills. Keep making cool stuff!
I needed to make a scoop to help feed the goats their grain. I like the idea of adding some texture to make it a bit more fun. This and the pencil video were great.
I really dig the hand carved textures! I'm all about the organic vibe. The third option looks like my grandpa's tobacco pipe, in fact, you could probably make a pipe head piece in a similar way as the scoop, if you are in to smoking tobacco... Keep making 'em, we'll keep watching 'em.
I’ve been watching for years and by far this was one of my favorite videos. It just felt so “organic” and I love that. Keep up the great work here’s to a creative year!
I bought the book and it has been a lot of fun to mess with. My scope turned out amazing ... everyone thought I curved it from one piece :-). The trivets are super easy using his picture-frame jig, and make great gifts.
You sir are one of a kind, and I mean that in a good way. Now stop teasing us with your new painted wall, want to see it up close. Looks fantastic from the quick shots.
The book is really awesome and made with incredible quality. The projects are really cool and come with great step by step plans. I highly recommend buying it.
Thinking more about this project, and liking it even more. I might start with a longer block to allow a curve on the handle piece inside of the bowl. Thanks again!
Thank you!! I need to make a cat food scoop for my Dad. At 92, his hands don’t work so well. I may change the design a bit to make it more friendly to limited finger movement. I’ll need to make some prototypes and see what he likes better. I really love the idea of cutting out the scoop and handle with the bandsaw. :)
I'd love to see what you do with digital tools. Whatever happened to the "desktop carving machines" that sort of pre-dated the modern CNC? I remember craftsman selling a product that produced signs that looked hand cut.
An idea...make two blanks, one from light wood and the other dark. Slice them like a meatloaf, interchange slices to make a 'banded' effect, glue them up, clean/face them up, THEN proceed to make the scoop.
Something I learned recently, if you're doing a poly finish (or really anything that hardens) you can use sawdust and your finish, instead of sawdust and glue, to hide your cracks and gaps, and it blends in even better.
"We have these tools like table saws that produce perfectly straight cuts..." - so today I learned my 8yr old Ryobi job-site saw produces "organic" cuts!
I dislike CNC's, 3D printing stuff. The only thing I could see me using a laser engraver for is to put my logo on a project. So I'm not a fan of digital stuff in woodworking. Sorry to see you go this way. Scoops came out nice Dave. Take care
In the old days, they used to smear Vaseline on the camera lens to get the soft focus effect, which obscured any fine detail. Is this the technique you used in this video? :)
I'm gonna need two scoops for my home-made Raisin Bran.
One for the raisin and one for the bran
@@guslarscheid3606 🤣
Nice little project--thanks!
I still miss the beer! Been a making it patron for many years. Yay 300??
Gonna get crazy in 2021....yep, I’m def sticking around!
This is a cool looking scoop and it was fun to watch you make it.

You are the real MVP. With a good amount of sanding and your angle trick i imagine that the joint between pieces could become nearly invisible.
Love me some scoops! Nice job dude

That's some varsity bandsaw work.
Dried up rhinoceros skin - perfect scoop drop! I love that the part cut out just slides back to become the handle - such a cleaver idea!
Thanks.
You’re a good human!! Love the hashtag at the end
Love your work and personality. Thanks.
Beautiful ideas brother
I love it, what a great 3D project.
Great creation! Love the new artwork the background as well!
Great video on a different use of the bandsaw.
Pretty nice work, Dave! 😃
That's one of the projects in my list as soon as I get a bandsaw!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I like all of them. Good looking work.

I definitely want to make this. Clever.
Thank you for that!! Very inspiring design!!
I needed to make a scoop to help feed the goats their grain. I like the idea of adding some texture to make it a bit more fun. This and the pencil video were great.
I love the new setup with the plants and ish. Beautiful video! Art on art
The scoops look awesome, i like the texture as well
Video turned out very well this week. Very nice project great idea. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God Bless.
Paused the video a few minutes in to say that the new mural looks AMAZING!!!
3rd one looks like a walnut shell. I like them all. Nice job.
Very cool idea man! Can’t wait to get my copy of the book now! 😁👍
Love all of them! The North East South and West looks very cool. Reminds be of a very well used and treasured scoop!
They look antique with the full texture. This was fun, and actually surprising to see the process.
Nice 👌
Woo! I love digital fabrication. Can't wait to see your spin on it.
Love watching your videos! Even the pencil one give me inspiration and gets the ideas flowing!
I have made more than several of this type of scoop in different sizes. They are easy to do and make great gifts.
Scoops!! I like it!
I’ve been watching for years and by far this was one of my favorite videos. It just felt so “organic” and I love that. Keep up the great work here’s to a creative year!
Another cool video. Thanks man.

Nice scoop, I dig it.
😉

That was a cool way to get to the initial shape. Sort of like a bandsaw box technique.
Wonderful video, David! And, YES, it did indeed fire me up to head over to Amazon and purchase your book! Thanks.
The book is really awesome and made with incredible quality. The projects are really cool and come with great step by step plans. I highly recommend buying it.
Amazing, thank you!
THe 3rd one looks like a walnut shell texture! all very nice.
awesome project, as usual!
as soon as i saw you cut the centre out i knew exactly how you were going to make it..... great job :)
Those are nice, David. Before you started the texturing, I was wondering about rounding the bottom but I see you did it.
Bill
Vey cool video. Fun project. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Looks cool!
I like the look
Thinking more about this project, and liking it even more. I might start with a longer block to allow a curve on the handle piece inside of the bowl. Thanks again!
I think your only limited by how deep your bandsaw can cut. I can only do 5 3/4 inch so that’s how big I’ll make my blank.

thanks young santa!
For anyone else thinking about this, 1Cup = 14.4375 cubic inches which means a square with internal dimensions of of 2.43 inches :) You're welcome
Love my signed copy of your new book. These scoops are high on my wife's wants list. I just got to get a bandsaw first
Love the texture. Looks like stone or flint that's been knapped.
I have no use for a thing like this, but it looks so fun to make. Kudos, as always :-)
Hope this is as good as the pencil video. seriously I ordered one.
Ok great as well 😭 but I don’t have a bandsaw 😭 end
Please show us how to make gifts from plywood
"we getting crazy in 2021" - oh yeah, can't wait for the ride!
Love your work and also for the book from Amazon over here in the UK too. :o)
The beanie and beard are giving me The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou vibe
Thanks for watching! I've make a playlist of my favorite woodworking projects: ua-cam.com/play/PLhqK_8dnaIW3V6a66AdyRI9DJUZwCSm83.html
to easily remove the glue dripping, you should use the "straw" technic!!!!
Nice job ... gives me some ideas !
Very cool project, also just got your book and it is very well done, really looking forward to doing a breakfast themed kitchen tool
i use veneer to take up the gaps...nice work!
The randomized one reminds me of a pipe texture!
I don’t need these-but I’ll make them and find a need. Lol love the podcast btw
I'd love to see what you do with digital tools. Whatever happened to the "desktop carving machines" that sort of pre-dated the modern CNC? I remember craftsman selling a product that produced signs that looked hand cut.
The Carvex!
Love the video and want to buy a signed copy. Edit - link works
“Should’ve done a better job cleaning up my glue” that’s my life’s motto.
Good project for me today, I broke the dog food scoop. Thanks Dav.

This was cool! When are we going to see that mural in detail?
I would say it's a hand carved finish 👍
"We have these tools like table saws that produce perfectly straight cuts..." - so today I learned my 8yr old Ryobi job-site saw produces "organic" cuts!
That last scoop was straight from the Flintstone's kitchen, so I'd call it the Bedrock.
“You probably don’t because I don’t either”. You need to make a t-shirt 😁
I dig the rainbow amoeba wall, who did that?
Bought the book love it.... #Free Britney... priceless lol
The all direction texture looks like stone. i.e. your Fred Flintstone scoop. : )
#FreeBritney 😂😂😂. Great project! Keep 'em coming!!
If you put eyes on your CNC and give it a name, is it still a soulless, machine? 👀🤔🤖
You should start a band called “run the scoops”
#FreeBritney... nice.
the one with north-south east-west markings looks like a wrinkled granny... I like all 3 textures!!!!!!
Well. I could do with doing this to replace the cut up milk carton I'm currently scooping dog food up with :)
I would like to see how do Ya make wood spoon for Japanise soup :3 and I do like this video
Hey! I’ve got that book!! Somebody wrote their name in it though.
ŁETS GET CRAZY!
All finishes are food safe once fully cured!
Your second cut could have been to cut the larger piece in half length ways to reduce it's width when gluing it together with the center piece.
That was gonna be my suggestion. I knew somebody else would have thought of it to
The carving in all directions could be called rusticated? Looks like the sand blasting technique used for some pipe finishes!
Do I only have to use hardwood to make the scoop food safe, or can I use softwood and still make it food safe?
Softwoods would be perfectly fine.
Dave, the link to the bandsaw blade link is broken. Can you post the blade?
