especially with how toxic the community is now.. which is ultra sad. im literally more empathic than 90% of players, who are all extremely toxic, im saying this because i am on a AJ discord chatting server and almost everyone there is so rude using slurs and insulting alot half the time of the whole chats.. i feel so unwelcome there, whenever i try to talk WHILST being polite as possible people either ignore me or have something rude to say to me out of the blue for my own opinion (example music i shared ??) like jeez?? and people tolerate that behaviour in there the mod team is extremely saddening and biased as well, not being any less toxic than the regular chatters in the server, theres alot of weird behaviour happening there which is ''accepted'' including phobias and discrimination and this left me bamboozled, the whole server is revolving around gossipping and being bad people in general (it just shows from the way they talk) and when ever the toxic people bring up or make drama its okay, but when its a nice or not well known person complaining suddenly the toxic ones group up against the nice one and its not (dont you find that absurd?) im settled for myself to no longer type in there but also cant leave due to trading being abit easier in there as well as asking for worth things.. (which even that is being ignored sometimes..) the server consists of OVER 5000 PEOPLE mind blowing community..
@@usuallyangry its always been like this, i i honestly find play wild to be much more agreejus when it comes to money. in game it costs like 10$ but if you get it off the website, its only 6$, which i dont understand at all lol once you have membership in ajpc you get the whole game, in play wild you have to keep spending real money to get the new things. either way unfortunately its how ajhq makes money, but i do agree they could have given a bit more over the years.
@@ash-yr7vv losing membership sucks, due to my irregular playing times ive just invested more into non-member items which isnt too bad once you get used to it. i do wish aj didnt completely empty your dens and strip your animals, it makes re-buying membership much less enticing
I'm not sure honestly, but I agree 100%. The game just feels kinda unplayable for me without a membership, esp since I am kinda obsessive with wanting games to be as customizable as possible, wanting to be able to make my lil avatar look any way I desire it to. Which is usually cute and pink and frilly, or purple, or maybe pastel goth. Maybe even full-on goth. Anything in that range lol I haven't spent any money on the game since 2022, ive only been able to return as many times as I have since because I bought a bunch of sapphires, and whenever I return to the game for a short while, I buy a month's membership on my ajpw account using sapphires. Once the month is up, I've usually grown bored of returning, so I can just buy it again whenever I get interested. (edit: fixed a typo, menat to say since 2022 not 2021)
I definitely have amazing memories of actually talking to people in aj instead of just *capitalism*. I loved the school roleplays, someone would set up a huge den like the Floating castle islands or Lizas home with dorm rooms, beds, different classes, lockers in "hallways", and then advertise it in Jamaa. Getting back on the game rlly made me wish i cherished those connections that i had with random people i met through aj a little more... I dont remember their names at all, but i remember the experiences
The unfortunate truth about Animal Jam Classic now it caters and prioritizes more to new coming players rather than long term and returning players, meaning no new fresh content outside of your average recolor or reskin item/den is going to come to the game also good job on this video, it's very well made especially for your first one!

It’s such a shame honestly. I remember being obsessed with the claw machines and spending ages getting the water animal plushies from the mini game. I would love to play it again because when I was younger I didn’t really know how to play pretend very immersive-ly, so I thought that I could come back, make some friends, enjoy the nostalgia and fun adventures. But there’s no-one who wants to do that anymore. My game challenges get denied, everything but the “trading hubs” are virtually empty. “LONG SPIKES BUY HERE” is basically all you see anymore. And I’m a nonmember so I’m very limited (someday I’ll get a membership but for now I’m not even playing because there’s nothing and no-one to play with) it’s a shame. Especially since I made my old account when I was young so I lost the password, so I had to make a new account, and with a new account comes a bunch of problems, no-one thinks your worth it or whatever. Like so what if I want my outfit to look PRETTY and not an amalgamation of “rares” to flaunt my wealth. One day I’m going to properly get into it and do videos and hopefully revive the whimsy (or that’s the dream) but as of now, there’s no fun without friends to laugh with.
the worth wiki was the worst thing to ever happen to the aj community. not only does worth manipulation happen all the damn time on it, but people now take collector's overtrade offers as "that is the new worth" . like no, some people just really want an item and will trade over to get it, that doesnt mean it should now be worth 4 solids bro.
exactly!! 4 i can understand i guess for an item like a headdress or beta set, but these people want dozens of the same item which i dont understand at all! what confuses me the most is that "variety" is considered less worth than "pure"?? i would much rather have brown cupid wings and a glitched ring (example) than "more worth" in spikes
Even though I only played animal jam on mobile and tried to play on computer, enough can’t be said that it Animal jam isn’t as fun as it used to be anymore (also I miss the roleplays they are a lot more rare to come across than someone trying to trade whatever item to get a lot more items.)

animal jam was my LIFE. I remember theme dens. I met a wonderful friend at someone’s coffee shop den. loaded with players until midnight ON A SCHOOL NIGHT. it is sad we wont see those days again
This is EXACTLY why I quit. There is no genuine interaction anymore; no playing pretend, no games or parties... If people would just actually have some fun together they'd do better. I was personally a roleplayer but honestly if people even just talked more during trading or actually asked other people to conversate this game would be better. I think you're right though, no matter how many people try to talk more and host things I don't think there's a way to truly go back now that the economy is so messed up and SO many people just want rares. :(
its very unfortunate.. i hope though, with my channel atleast, that we can build a small community of jammers and make the best we can out of it, trading not via the wiki but for demand, real den decorating (instead of just shops), player hosted games etc. 💕
I have a question. As a young adult, I don't really come back to the game that often besides for nolstalgia's sake, or to socialize, since many people playing nowadays are people like me. Teenagers or young adults who grew up with the game when it was in it's prime. But lately, I find it harder and harder to actually socialize in animal jam classic. Like you said, nobody is hosting roleplays or dress up parties or anything like that anymore, but every time I try to go to the pillow room, its empty! That was always the main hub for socializing, and it disturbs me that I can never find anybody in there anymore. But there's clips in this new video of people actually being in the pillow room... what time of day were you getting on? I'm in EST timezone and I've tried getting on midday, and later on in the day, and never find anyone in any of the pillow rooms.
@@Silly-The-Third i am EST as well, the pillow room is very hit or miss but lately its been full whenever i go. it might be so full that you get put into a different server? thats my only explanation unfortunately it is so hard to find people, a big part of it has to do with the fact that the game can barely be updated at the moment. i really hope we get news on how theyre going to bring ajpc back soon, (likely a mobile port of sorts), but atleast we know that it has a future and that pacifies me enough to keep hope even though things are rough right now :)
@@witchletaj but that's the thing, I very specifically made sure to check the pillow rooms of the fullest servers, and the server name was always the same when I walked from jamaa township into the pillow room. Once I saw one person in there, but they left seconds after I got there, like they hadnt even meant to go into the pillow room :') This gives me hope that its not completely dead though, I'll keep trying!

Real even though when I log on there are a lot of people there but still, nobody is hosting anything fun like that fr 😭. Everybody is just advertising their shops or trading list, I never see anything else on the game

yeah, honestly getting back into AJ has been a rollercoaster. While it's fun going back to what brought me so much joy as a kid/preteen- everything is so money based or locked behind the paywall of membership it makes most things useless in general. That is if you play classic, even then- I think it's mostly to do with us all growing older, the game has lost it's charm. I think the best thing for Animal Jam would be an influx of new kids, bring in a new generation to enjoy what some of us no longer can
animal jam is definitely bringing in many new kids, but that is to ajpw. most kids have ipads or phones and not really much access to computers and AJHQ definitely obviously prioritizes its new game too. It sucks because they very much still care about their game, shown by the "mediocre" updates they still give. people say is lazy but in truth people dont acknowledge that its impossible to truly update ajpc at the moment due to flash past pngs aka den items. they have however announced they are not abandoning the game, which i believe because they still do what they can to update it and are actively working to bring it back. it brings me hope that this game will heal, and for that im willing to wait 💕
I love that you brought up how easy it used to be to get “rare” and when it was just people wanting stuff that looked cool and not stuff that are worth x amount of den betas or x amount of solids
the golden days where it was demand over "worth". if you wanted a blue spike it was okay to color swap with someone who has a green one, you get the items you WANT. no need to hoard hundreds of black longs to get what you want, no one needs that many, you can only wear ONE!!
I’ve been playing animal jam since 2011. I recently started replaying after stopping in 2017. I’m a grown woman now with real money so I bought a membership for funsies. The way my jaw DROPPED when someone told me I’d need to spend 100 diamonds for a Cami’s Frog. Or trade 20 den betas for a red long spike. I remember when any beta was the highest you could go. It took me days of haggling with this guy for his orange gecko plushie. And, and we eventually agreed on a green spike collar and couple rare items from the 2012 leap a year party. Flash forward someone is telling my the items I’ve had for a literal decade building memories with in den builds and player made fashion shows that are ACTUALLY limited in number are not worth a spike collar, the thing that everyone has now in one shape or form? Give me a break. And nobody wants to roleplay or chat anymore. (Well… nobody wants to adventure alpha clan roleplay dance around the fire in Sarepia Forest *Hits You* No Miss roleplay. Plenty of people are still being nasty in the pillow room) It’s really sad. As a kid I spent 6 years cultivating my closet and den collections full of things I thought looked cool. Kids now have a spreadsheet of “cool” they can use to earn diamonds to buy more stuff to earn diamonds. It’s so bleak.

Forgive me for such a long comment, but you made some really good points in this video and I thought I’d add some of my own. * I really want to know who’s running the AJ worth wiki. Genuinely, who is making up these item worths?? I understand the accumulated worth overtime but it’s ridiculously unfair now. Sometimes it feels impossible to enjoy AJ now unless you’ve been rare for a long time. Working your way up is tedious and just not fun anymore. * I think shops were a great addition, since there wasn’t much to spend diamonds on other than animals, pets or the like occasional new diamond items that were actually worth buying. Now, however, I feel like they’ve replaced the trade system in a way. Why trade when you can sell for diamonds and use those diamonds to buy spikes or den betas? * The lack of updates is heartbreaking. AJ feels so abandoned. I’ve sort of grown to resent PlayWild for stealing away the attention and effort put into AJ, but really is just changing times. Just like you said, pretty much every kid has iPads and phones now. Shifting focus was a good move, but unfortunately meant essentially leaving behind AJ Classic. All new items are just boring recolours or pre-existing items with spikes slapped onto them. * Lore/adventures have been ditched. I feel like very few people care about or even remember has lore (good, interesting lore!) and just don’t want to spend time on adventures. I’m not saying people HAVE to play adventures, but it was such a strong element of the game! They’re so much fun when you give them a try. * UA-camrs. Whilst the type of content all the big AJ content creators used to make wouldn’t be my cup of tea now, I used to LOVE that stuff when I was a few years younger. People would watch their videos, dress up like their avatars and leach onto them when they logged in or hang out in their dens. I miss the excitement they brought… and the drama. Okay, hi!! haha i relate so hard to this. as someone who got into the game when the rarity system was incredible (aka before the worth wiki fucked it all up) trading was so so much fun, now its just buying, especially with my shops what satiates me is knowing that AJHQ is indeed working on a way to fix animal jam pc, either release it in a new state or convert it to a different software, which unfortunately is why there have been so many breaches, but i trust it times will get better :) lowkey if they released “beta” animal jam id actually quit ajpc and go for that /hj could you imagine getting to relive animal jam’s evolution all over again?? that would solve all of my problems/j LMAO
Pretty sure my account got hacked cause I went in after not logging on for some time and allll of my stuff was gone. My pink fox hat, my little pink purse, my mounds of den items...gone. I can never get that back. But...I've got my memories at least. And I'm fine with that even if I'm devastated that my stuff I spent hours working to get are gone.

Can't even change my original password cause I made the account using someone else's email (I was a kid and didn't think to ask my parents). I poured years of my childhood into that game, making friends and collecting stuff. All the memberships I bought as a kid with nothing to show for it. Pretty crappy of AJ to let such a big data breach happen but also pretty sad of people hacking a children's game. I'm bummed cause when I check my account a little over 2 years ago, my stuff was still there. No idea what's happened since that lead to my stuff being gone
heres a tip to get roleplay, go into literally anyone den, u will either get yelled at, locked out, or they join in with what nonsense you yell at them. recently i went into their shed in their volcano den and started yelling at them, then i told them its me dad, im ur son, then they roleplayed as my dad, then i became angry, and the volcano was erupting from my rage, he tried to calm me down, but it was too late.. boom... the volcano errupted (i logged out)

I think aj classic should just make everything free, they're recycling all events, not releasing any new animals and as far as I know, no new cosmetics either. Play wild, or the mobile version, is getting all the news stuff.
@@lalacatio its a lot more complicated than that. due to flash ending they are physically unable to add animals or clothing not already in the games code. the fact that they are still doing updates however is a good sign, and they have announced that they are actively working on a way to fix animal jam. its a hugee project so itll take quite a lot of time and money, which might be why they are so absurdly monetizing play wild. i have hope that they will soon announce news on the project

The only way I've found to elbow my way into the economy is to take commissions since people are willing to give me spikes if I spend an hour or two drawing, otherwise I'm stuck grinding in TFD for hours to try and get some stuff with decent worth but no demand so I end up with people lowballing me like crazy and all of a sudden the stuff people offer me lose value (like when someone traded me Jam bows for grass with worms) Anyways, what do you call a deer with no eyes? @@striderian HAHA I LOVE THE DAD JOKE “worth” is a whole joke its entierly made up. demand is what really matters, which is why trading back in the day was so fun. today there is definitely demand, but people refuse to trade unless its for a certain amount because of what some fan-made blog says.
Tbh the only way Ive found trading to be fun again is through pet trading. Worths are so much less defined, and its easy to get really attached to your pets in a way I haven’t really experienced with items lol. Its also so fun starting collections and building outfits around new pets you get :) Also I love the masterpiece system and it’s sooo rewarding to finish a piece. Commissions are basically my reliable way of getting items to trade for pet collecting and its a fun cycle! Tbh I just wish more people played to make it even more rewarding.

literally like i couldnt agree more. i had just recently returned to AJ because i had so many fond memories on there and i just remembered it being this fun social game that i could spend hours on but its like all it is now is some barren wasteland of what it used to be. people are really only interested in trading and having you buy from their shops, if they aren't doing that then its really just players doing their own little thing. the only real thing ive had fun doing on AJ since like the past 3 months of playing was decorating my den, but even then i had to like activate every neuron i had to do so because theres like only 10-12 non-member den items to choose from. i really just wish the game would miraculously be revived, which im not even sure is possible since they can't add any new content to the game....🙁🙁

I just recently returned to Animal Jam after a 3 year hiatus and yeah... the game is still centered around trading as it was in 2021. I wouldn't say the game is necessarily boring for me though. I love having collections of certain items, whether they are rare or not. For example, I'm trying to get all of the clothed plushies from the claw machines right now. I understand that there aren't roleplays like in the past due to most of the player base being older teenagers and adults, but I don't understand why no one seems to want to socialize anymore. Growing up on Animal Jam has given me many skills, I learned about social interaction, speaking English, how to type, and I guess about the economy, too.
If you enjoy rping I recommend roblox animal games. There is a mixed variety of styles and people there as well. Also thinking of starting a channel, what software for editing do you use?

Its fr sad. I grew up on ajpw, but i play classic too, and its true. How are you supposed to trade up?? And shops were literally the worst things ever to happen bc now everyone is obsessed with sapphires or diamonds, not role plays, or fashion shows, or heck even just being there for fun
because its pretty much a furry hangout now. it used to be a game filled with a bunch of kids who actually enjoyed learning about animals on the game and thats changed

I just got into classic last week and my motivation got blasted into outer space when I saw how you need membership for 99.9% of things, including clothes which I think is ridiculous since pw doesn't have that, at least not at bad. I bought membership though since I wanted to give the game a chance and honestly it is still not meeting up to my expectations at all. I'm probably going to quit classic as soon as my membership runs out because it's impossible to make friends since all people are focused on is selling spikes, betas, etc or trading them. Plus at least in my experience unlike with pw where some people at least have cheap shops, the ones I saw on classic made me feel broke (which I was-) Nothing is gems, heck I would go for something 5,000 gems but nope, all for at least 15 diamonds. Maybe it's just me since I'm new so I'm just complaining (which I kind of am-) but it is so hard for me as a new player to classic to get my inventory raised up so I can get my animal looking half-decent. I feel like it's all about either trading or selling now rather than actually having fun, on both sites, not just one since pw also has the same problem unfortunately
no youre completely valid! animal jam in its state now is rough, i understand why especially playing play wild you would feel disappointed or bored. i cant say anything will change soon, and i encourage you to do what you think will bring you the most fun, even if that is quitting. even if you dont stick around i welcome you to the community, its rough but i have hope things will get better :)
As an older player whos been around since foxes were first added, i truly think the shop system screwed over the in game economy so much. Before it was a grind to get rares, yet it was a fun one. Now its just who can whip out mommys credit card (or like me, your OWN credit card) to buy diamonds so you can finally purchase that 700 diamond spiked collar someones selling.
(Now I'm trying to get a membership now, because I want to get non-membership items (like alpha sword), but without a membership it's kinda impossible) (You have to get stupid 15-20 clothing to get an den beta ;_;)

Animal jam was pretty much one of the things that i enjoyed in my school days or even vacations back then. I bought almost all the bundles, i had like .. 10+ animals and a huge amount of dens, that probably pretty much explains how much i cared about the game :p and i pretty much think it got hacked *twice* .. first one being my moms credit card used to buy free fire diamonds (for some reason) and the second time being recently, all my stuff was gone (ofc except my animals and dens), all my bundle items, furniture, everything basically- and yeah, ive progressed in play wild too (the one i will probably return to because it wasnt hacked) but it really bothers me that the stuff ive got over the *years* in classic had just dissapeared ,, yeah its pretty sad Also cool video!!

(psps i don't normally use all the periods n shit but i feel very passionate about this topic i promise i'm not scary LMAO ^^;) long-ass passionate text wall incoming !!!! first of all, fantastic job on your first video, and welcome to the community!! :3 you worded it all perfectly, absolutely read my mind. i hate that ajc's basically pay-to-win, all the fun's sucked out of it. i'm honestly half-tempted to make a new account and play dumb about the worth system just to see if people do anything. i'm- shit, i just turned 20 a few days ago, almost said 19 ^^: i started playing after a few years off sometime last year (2019 was when i'd last played before getting into it again in 2023?), and the shop thing COMPLETELY shocked me. immediately i was like "what the hell happened to trading?" and i was right, it's all about diamonds and good-looking pixels just to get what you want for some temporary high. i had to trade for a good chunk of that time, maybe a good two years before my break to get a goddamn leap-year worn, which... i later recycled out of anger one day. i saw someone with a slime worn, one of those contest items- immediately ran to the wiki- 10 fucking solids. but then i'm like "well do i sell the wrists i get from tfd so i can get goodies from people's shops, or do i try to trade up?" i collected and sold rims, went back and forth between keeping shops and recycling- i'm constantly torn between playing into the worth system and fighting against it, it just pisses me off so much. sidenote i honestly hate (though i used to do this but i never had much of value) those who simply just make the content giving spikes and dims, hosting streams all the time and just doing that, or those who'd just join for the giveaways, it just- it all seems so robotic, the whole thing. that part about "who wants 20 fox hats for a scarecrow?" really struck a chord with me, you're so right. what with collars (the ones everyone wants, anyway) not being prizes in tfd anymore due to bots and cheaters, that only solidifies it. and hackers. what're you gonna get out of stealing someone else's pretty pixels? some temporary high you can't get from playing the game on your own and making your OWN fun out of it?? is that not the whole point of the game? fashion shows are the one thing i look forward to because BEST DRESSED IS FULL OF BOTS AND I NEVER WIN LIKE I SHOULD!! >:( i wish there was something we could do to change it, i'd be happy to join the small community of those trading for "visuals over value", an old saying i'd say in my old aj streams, something i stuck to for the longest time ^^; guhhh i'm just so tired of the bullshit within a childhood game i've held so much love for. i'm half-tempted to let my membership run out just to grind, maybe i will. my user is Cloverplayz23 if you or anyone else reading this would like to buddy me, maybe we can make something of a difference out of this. :3 it's late at night and i might have more to add to this (or a full convo??? maybe???) but all in all, thank you for making this, it's really making me think. /pos (this is meant in a positive way) you've definitely got me in your corner. ^w^

this exactly!!! I was a part of animal jam only 1 year after its release and spent every single day after school from the moment I got home to the moment I had to go to bed, I spent playing this game. it was my everything growing up. and sonetimes I log back on, wishing to reminisce but it's just simply not the same. even if I did enjoy trading, everything from my account was hacked and i have no clue what anything is worth anymore. I wondered if it was just the fact im an adult now and all the childlike innocent mindset had faded from me, or if animal jam was truly just different. I'm tempted to just get on, get out the floor pillows and patches bamboo and all the foliage I can find and just start a roleplay of my own. I'd like to feel the same magic I felt all those years of my childhood
i've didn't have a lot of access to computers when i was younger, so i only grew up with ajpw, but i definitely see the similarities between the two. there's still some occasional roleplays and fashion shows , but it's way less common now. the animal hospital area used to be booming with roleplays but when u enter it now, it's almost always empty. i remember joining a warriors roleplay when i didn't know anything about wc, but it was still really fun and engaging. now whenever i log on, all i see is trading and shops, esp in the pillow room. it feels like all the game is now and it's impossible to even trade for or buy something u want if it's even slightly rare. its unplayable atp. if you want to have any kind of fun in the game, you have to buy gamepasses or spend hours trading up which just isn't fun to me :( one thing i'm happy about is that they made it so you can join packs without a membership, but most packs don't do runs or anything..
i only really played ajpw from beta-2019 so im not sure how it is now, but i have seen the abusrd pay-to-play bullshit, why is there no way to buy those coin boxes with sapphires?? they basically locked animals behind so much AND its all just gambling to get the right colors?!? animal jam is about customization, why would i want a unicorn if i cant change the colors? its completely insane and so predatory to children. when i used to beg my mom for those aj gift cards as a 9yo it was because it unlocked a cool exclusive animal that was all yours. im glad you were able to have a fun experience before all of this went down, i didnt even know ajpw had rares (used to be nutcracker boots, flower crowns and the rocker set which i hoarded lol). i have dizzy stars, light blue furry cuffs, a sugar glider etc which is apparently worth thousands? so confusing to me, its a shame play wild, which is supposed to be the new animal jam, has regressed as well 😔

i think the main reason , at least for me , is that i'm no longer a kid. i played animal jam for several years actively n ive done everything there is to do pretty much? so theres not much of a reason to go back ive outgrown the game , which is okay , i had fun when i played :] ill log in once in a blue moon n roam around but thats about it
Tbh I never played this game. Like ever. I downloaded it once because my friend had a short phase where she played it. I Uninstalled it later. I just like hearing about stuff that happens in other games without context

In all seriousness, I think all the players acknowledge the problems that the economy brings to the game, but nobody cares enough to do anything about it. Everything in AJ is now just advertising shops 🥲 AJ classic has no more daily x2 gems for “classic”. The game was so fun (still is if you’re a nostalgia lover or new player) but if you’re like me who played for yearssss then you miss the days where bepper and wisteria moon made videos and when a bunch of people would go watch the educational videos 😌 and play games together…it was fun !! Now it seems just everybody is trading and only cares about items even adults (cuz lots of us liked the old jambasadors turned into adults 😂 but only some of us who are now adults stuck with the game! I love it but I miss the old game and I miss flash. Even neopets is not fun like before. I don’t really like mobile AJ

I agree, it feels so wrong to me to even to call it animal jam “classic”. seeing pictures of the old artstyle and the excitement players had for the game is personally the nostalgia most painful for me out of anything ive seen.

im literally more empathic than 90% of players, who are all extremely toxic, im saying this because i am on a AJ discord chatting server and almost everyone there is so rude using slurs and insulting alot half the time of the whole chats.. i feel so unwelcome there, whenever i try to talk WHILST being polite as possible people either ignore me or have something rude to say to me out of the blue for my own opinion (example music i shared ??) like jeez?? and people tolerate that behaviour in there
the mod team is extremely saddening and biased as well, not being any less toxic than the regular chatters in the server, theres alot of weird behaviour happening there which is ''accepted'' including phobias and discrimination and this left me bamboozled, the whole server is revolving around gossipping and being bad people in general (it just shows from the way they talk) and when ever the toxic people bring up or make drama its okay, but when its a nice or not well known person complaining suddenly the toxic ones group up against the nice one and its not (dont you find that absurd?)
im settled for myself to no longer type in there but also cant leave due to trading being abit easier in there as well as asking for worth things.. (which even that is being ignored sometimes..)

once you have membership in ajpc you get the whole game, in play wild you have to keep spending real money to get the new things. either way unfortunately its how ajhq makes money, but i do agree they could have given a bit more over the years.
@@ash-yr7vv losing membership sucks, due to my irregular playing times ive just invested more into non-member items which isnt too bad once you get used to it. i do wish aj didnt completely empty your dens and strip your animals, it makes re-buying membership much less enticing
I'm not sure honestly, but I agree 100%. The game just feels kinda unplayable for me without a membership, esp since I am kinda obsessive with wanting games to be as customizable as possible, wanting to be able to make my lil avatar look any way I desire it to. Which is usually cute and pink and frilly, or purple, or maybe pastel goth. Maybe even full-on goth. Anything in that range lol
I haven't spent any money on the game since 2022, ive only been able to return as many times as I have since because I bought a bunch of sapphires, and whenever I return to the game for a short while, I buy a month's membership on my ajpw account using sapphires. Once the month is up, I've usually grown bored of returning, so I can just buy it again whenever I get interested.

I definitely have amazing memories of actually talking to people in aj instead of just *capitalism*. I loved the school roleplays, someone would set up a huge den like the Floating castle islands or Lizas home with dorm rooms, beds, different classes, lockers in "hallways", and then advertise it in Jamaa. Getting back on the game rlly made me wish i cherished those connections that i had with random people i met through aj a little more... I dont remember their names at all, but i remember the experiences
The unfortunate truth about Animal Jam Classic now it caters and prioritizes more to new coming players rather than long term and returning players, meaning no new fresh content outside of your average recolor or reskin item/den is going to come to the game

i really hope they meant it when they said that theyll make an “animal jam 2”. theyre physically unable to add new animals or clothing items due to flash ending, im glad theyre atleast trying. definitely not a fan, dont get me wrong but it gives me hope that maybe this game could have a future, maybe the “older kids” animal jam that feral was supposed to be
It’s such a shame honestly. I remember being obsessed with the claw machines and spending ages getting the water animal plushies from the mini game. I would love to play it again because when I was younger I didn’t really know how to play pretend very immersive-ly, so I thought that I could come back, make some friends, enjoy the nostalgia and fun adventures. But there’s no-one who wants to do that anymore. My game challenges get denied, everything but the “trading hubs” are virtually empty. “LONG SPIKES BUY HERE” is basically all you see anymore. And I’m a nonmember so I’m very limited (someday I’ll get a membership but for now I’m not even playing because there’s nothing and no-one to play with) it’s a shame. Especially since I made my old account when I was young so I lost the password, so I had to make a new account, and with a new account comes a bunch of problems, no-one thinks your worth it or whatever. Like so what if I want my outfit to look PRETTY and not an amalgamation of “rares” to flaunt my wealth. One day I’m going to properly get into it and do videos and hopefully revive the whimsy (or that’s the dream) but as of now, there’s no fun without friends to laugh with.

the worth wiki was the worst thing to ever happen to the aj community. not only does worth manipulation happen all the damn time on it, but people now take collector's overtrade offers as "that is the new worth" . like no, some people just really want an item and will trade over to get it, that doesnt mean it should now be worth 4 solids bro.

Even though I only played animal jam on mobile and tried to play on computer, enough can’t be said that it Animal jam isn’t as fun as it used to be anymore (also I miss the roleplays they are a lot more rare to come across than someone trying to trade whatever item to get a lot more items.)

This is EXACTLY why I quit. There is no genuine interaction anymore; no playing pretend, no games or parties... If people would just actually have some fun together they'd do better. I was personally a roleplayer but honestly if people even just talked more during trading or actually asked other people to conversate this game would be better. I think you're right though, no matter how many people try to talk more and host things I don't think there's a way to truly go back now that the economy is so messed up and SO many people just want rares. :(
its very unfortunate.. i hope though, with my channel atleast, that we can build a small community of jammers and make the best we can out of it, trading not via the wiki but for demand, real den decorating (instead of just shops), player hosted games etc. 💕

I have a question.
As a young adult, I don't really come back to the game that often besides for nolstalgia's sake, or to socialize, since many people playing nowadays are people like me. Teenagers or young adults who grew up with the game when it was in it's prime. But lately, I find it harder and harder to actually socialize in animal jam classic. Like you said, nobody is hosting roleplays or dress up parties or anything like that anymore, but every time I try to go to the pillow room, its empty! That was always the main hub for socializing, and it disturbs me that I can never find anybody in there anymore. But there's clips in this new video of people actually being in the pillow room... what time of day were you getting on? I'm in EST timezone and I've tried getting on midday, and later on in the day, and never find anyone in any of the pillow rooms.
@@Silly-The-Third i am EST as well, the pillow room is very hit or miss but lately its been full whenever i go. it might be so full that you get put into a different server? thats my only explanation
unfortunately it is so hard to find people, a big part of it has to do with the fact that the game can barely be updated at the moment. i really hope we get news on how theyre going to bring ajpc back soon, (likely a mobile port of sorts), but atleast we know that it has a future and that pacifies me enough to keep hope even though things are rough right now :)
@@witchletaj but that's the thing, I very specifically made sure to check the pillow rooms of the fullest servers, and the server name was always the same when I walked from jamaa township into the pillow room. Once I saw one person in there, but they left seconds after I got there, like they hadnt even meant to go into the pillow room :') This gives me hope that its not completely dead though, I'll keep trying!

yeah, honestly getting back into AJ has been a rollercoaster. While it's fun going back to what brought me so much joy as a kid/preteen- everything is so money based or locked behind the paywall of membership it makes most things useless in general. That is if you play classic, even then- I think it's mostly to do with us all growing older, the game has lost it's charm.
I think the best thing for Animal Jam would be an influx of new kids, bring in a new generation to enjoy what some of us no longer can
animal jam is definitely bringing in many new kids, but that is to ajpw. most kids have ipads or phones and not really much access to computers and AJHQ definitely obviously prioritizes its new game too.
It sucks because they very much still care about their game, shown by the "mediocre" updates they still give. people say is lazy but in truth people dont acknowledge that its impossible to truly update ajpc at the moment due to flash past pngs aka den items. they have however announced they are not abandoning the game, which i believe because they still do what they can to update it and are actively working to bring it back.
it brings me hope that this game will heal, and for that im willing to wait 💕

the golden days where it was demand over "worth". if you wanted a blue spike it was okay to color swap with someone who has a green one, you get the items you WANT.

I’ve been playing animal jam since 2011. I recently started replaying after stopping in 2017. I’m a grown woman now with real money so I bought a membership for funsies.
The way my jaw DROPPED when someone told me I’d need to spend 100 diamonds for a Cami’s Frog. Or trade 20 den betas for a red long spike.
I remember when any beta was the highest you could go. It took me days of haggling with this guy for his orange gecko plushie. And, and we eventually agreed on a green spike collar and couple rare items from the 2012 leap a year party.
Flash forward someone is telling my the items I’ve had for a literal decade building memories with in den builds and player made fashion shows that are ACTUALLY limited in number are not worth a spike collar, the thing that everyone has now in one shape or form?
Give me a break. And nobody wants to roleplay or chat anymore. (Well… nobody wants to adventure alpha clan roleplay dance around the fire in Sarepia Forest *Hits You* No Miss roleplay. Plenty of people are still being nasty in the pillow room)
It’s really sad. As a kid I spent 6 years cultivating my closet and den collections full of things I thought looked cool. Kids now have a spreadsheet of “cool” they can use to earn diamonds to buy more stuff to earn diamonds. It’s so bleak.

Forgive me for such a long comment, but you made some really good points in this video and I thought I’d add some of my own.
* I really want to know who’s running the AJ worth wiki. Genuinely, who is making up these item worths?? I understand the accumulated worth overtime but it’s ridiculously unfair now. Sometimes it feels impossible to enjoy AJ now unless you’ve been rare for a long time. Working your way up is tedious and just not fun anymore.
* I think shops were a great addition, since there wasn’t much to spend diamonds on other than animals, pets or the like occasional new diamond items that were actually worth buying. Now, however, I feel like they’ve replaced the trade system in a way. Why trade when you can sell for diamonds and use those diamonds to buy spikes or den betas?
* The lack of updates is heartbreaking. AJ feels so abandoned. I’ve sort of grown to resent PlayWild for stealing away the attention and effort put into AJ, but really is just changing times. Just like you said, pretty much every kid has iPads and phones now. Shifting focus was a good move, but unfortunately meant essentially leaving behind AJ Classic. All new items are just boring recolours or pre-existing items with spikes slapped onto them.
* Lore/adventures have been ditched. I feel like very few people care about or even remember has lore (good, interesting lore!) and just don’t want to spend time on adventures. I’m not saying people HAVE to play adventures, but it was such a strong element of the game! They’re so much fun when you give them a try.
* UA-camrs. Whilst the type of content all the big AJ content creators used to make wouldn’t be my cup of tea now, I used to LOVE that stuff when I was a few years younger. People would watch their videos, dress up like their avatars and leach onto them when they logged in or hang out in their dens. I miss the excitement they brought… and the drama.

you put it into words really well! it's nice to see someone addressing why the game has fallen from grace so hard. breaks my heart to see it get as boring as it has because it made up so many years of my childhood. i'm hoping to see some sort of animal jam 2 in the future, the game's entire economy needs to be crashed to zero xp
haha i relate so hard to this. as someone who got into the game when the rarity system was incredible (aka before the worth wiki fucked it all up) trading was so so much fun, now its just buying, especially with my shops
what satiates me is knowing that AJHQ is indeed working on a way to fix animal jam pc, either release it in a new state or convert it to a different software, which unfortunately is why there have been so many breaches, but i trust it times will get better :)

Can't even change my original password cause I made the account using someone else's email (I was a kid and didn't think to ask my parents). I poured years of my childhood into that game, making friends and collecting stuff. All the memberships I bought as a kid with nothing to show for it. Pretty crappy of AJ to let such a big data breach happen but also pretty sad of people hacking a children's game. I'm bummed cause when I check my account a little over 2 years ago, my stuff was still there. No idea what's happened since that lead to my stuff being gone
heres a tip to get roleplay, go into literally anyone den, u will either get yelled at, locked out, or they join in with what nonsense you yell at them.
recently i went into their shed in their volcano den and started yelling at them, then i told them its me dad, im ur son, then they roleplayed as my dad, then i became angry, and the volcano was erupting from my rage, he tried to calm me down, but it was too late.. boom... the volcano errupted (i logged out)

I think aj classic should just make everything free, they're recycling all events, not releasing any new animals and as far as I know, no new cosmetics either. Play wild, or the mobile version, is getting all the news stuff.
@@lalacatio its a lot more complicated than that. due to flash ending they are physically unable to add animals or clothing not already in the games code. the fact that they are still doing updates however is a good sign, and they have announced that they are actively working on a way to fix animal jam. its a hugee project so itll take quite a lot of time and money, which might be why they are so absurdly monetizing play wild. i have hope that they will soon announce news on the project

great video!!! in all honesty, because of my bad english at the time i didn't interact with anybody so i missed on all of the good things about old aj. in that sense my experience playing the game really hasn't changed much! but i really really hope there's going to be a resurgence in the future, because it sounded like such a fun time to be on aj... i want to believe we've got it in us to make aj fun again:-D

The only way I've found to elbow my way into the economy is to take commissions since people are willing to give me spikes if I spend an hour or two drawing, otherwise I'm stuck grinding in TFD for hours to try and get some stuff with decent worth but no demand so I end up with people lowballing me like crazy and all of a sudden the stuff people offer me lose value (like when someone traded me Jam bows for grass with worms)

“worth” is a whole joke its entierly made up. demand is what really matters, which is why trading back in the day was so fun. today there is definitely demand, but people refuse to trade unless its for a certain amount because of what some fan-made blog says.

Tbh the only way Ive found trading to be fun again is through pet trading.
Worths are so much less defined, and its easy to get really attached to your pets in a way I haven’t really experienced with items lol.
Its also so fun starting collections and building outfits around new pets you get :)
Also I love the masterpiece system and it’s sooo rewarding to finish a piece.
Commissions are basically my reliable way of getting items to trade for pet collecting and its a fun cycle! Tbh I just wish more people played to make it even more rewarding.

literally like i couldnt agree more. i had just recently returned to AJ because i had so many fond memories on there and i just remembered it being this fun social game that i could spend hours on but its like all it is now is some barren wasteland of what it used to be. people are really only interested in trading and having you buy from their shops, if they aren't doing that then its really just players doing their own little thing. the only real thing ive had fun doing on AJ since like the past 3 months of playing was decorating my den, but even then i had to like activate every neuron i had to do so because theres like only 10-12 non-member den items to choose from. i really just wish the game would miraculously be revived, which im not even sure is possible since they can't add any new content to the game....🙁🙁

I just recently returned to Animal Jam after a 3 year hiatus and yeah... the game is still centered around trading as it was in 2021.
I wouldn't say the game is necessarily boring for me though. I love having collections of certain items, whether they are rare or not. For example, I'm trying to get all of the clothed plushies from the claw machines right now.
I understand that there aren't roleplays like in the past due to most of the player base being older teenagers and adults, but I don't understand why no one seems to want to socialize anymore.
Growing up on Animal Jam has given me many skills, I learned about social interaction, speaking English, how to type, and I guess about the economy, too.
If you enjoy rping I recommend roblox animal games. There is a mixed variety of styles and people there as well. Also thinking of starting a channel, what software for editing do you use?

Its fr sad. I grew up on ajpw, but i play classic too, and its true. How are you supposed to trade up?? And shops were literally the worst things ever to happen bc now everyone is obsessed with sapphires or diamonds, not role plays, or fashion shows, or heck even just being there for fun
because its pretty much a furry hangout now. it used to be a game filled with a bunch of kids who actually enjoyed learning about animals on the game and thats changed

I just got into classic last week and my motivation got blasted into outer space when I saw how you need membership for 99.9% of things, including clothes which I think is ridiculous since pw doesn't have that, at least not at bad. I bought membership though since I wanted to give the game a chance and honestly it is still not meeting up to my expectations at all. I'm probably going to quit classic as soon as my membership runs out because it's impossible to make friends since all people are focused on is selling spikes, betas, etc or trading them. Plus at least in my experience unlike with pw where some people at least have cheap shops, the ones I saw on classic made me feel broke (which I was-) Nothing is gems, heck I would go for something 5,000 gems but nope, all for at least 15 diamonds. Maybe it's just me since I'm new so I'm just complaining (which I kind of am-) but it is so hard for me as a new player to classic to get my inventory raised up so I can get my animal looking half-decent. I feel like it's all about either trading or selling now rather than actually having fun, on both sites, not just one since pw also has the same problem unfortunately
no youre completely valid! animal jam in its state now is rough, i understand why especially playing play wild you would feel disappointed or bored. i cant say anything will change soon, and i encourage you to do what you think will bring you the most fun, even if that is quitting. even if you dont stick around i welcome you to the community, its rough but i have hope things will get better :)
As an older player whos been around since foxes were first added, i truly think the shop system screwed over the in game economy so much. Before it was a grind to get rares, yet it was a fun one. Now its just who can whip out mommys credit card (or like me, your OWN credit card) to buy diamonds so you can finally purchase that 700 diamond spiked collar someones selling.

Animal jam was pretty much one of the things that i enjoyed in my school days or even vacations back then.
I bought almost all the bundles, i had like .. 10+ animals and a huge amount of dens, that probably pretty much explains how much i cared about the game :p
and i pretty much think it got hacked *twice* ..
first one being my moms credit card used to buy free fire diamonds (for some reason) and the second time being recently, all my stuff was gone (ofc except my animals and dens), all my bundle items, furniture, everything basically-
and yeah, ive progressed in play wild too (the one i will probably return to because it wasnt hacked) but it really bothers me that the stuff ive got over the *years* in classic had just dissapeared ,,

i'm- shit, i just turned 20 a few days ago, almost said 19 ^^:
i started playing after a few years off sometime last year (2019 was when i'd last played before getting into it again in 2023?), and the shop thing COMPLETELY shocked me. immediately i was like "what the hell happened to trading?" and i was right, it's all about diamonds and good-looking pixels just to get what you want for some temporary high.
i had to trade for a good chunk of that time, maybe a good two years before my break to get a goddamn leap-year worn, which... i later recycled out of anger one day.
i saw someone with a slime worn, one of those contest items- immediately ran to the wiki- 10 fucking solids.
but then i'm like "well do i sell the wrists i get from tfd so i can get goodies from people's shops, or do i try to trade up?"
i collected and sold rims, went back and forth between keeping shops and recycling- i'm constantly torn between playing into the worth system and fighting against it, it just pisses me off so much.
sidenote i honestly hate (though i used to do this but i never had much of value) those who simply just make the content giving spikes and dims, hosting streams all the time and just doing that, or those who'd just join for the giveaways, it just-
it all seems so robotic, the whole thing.

this exactly!!! I was a part of animal jam only 1 year after its release and spent every single day after school from the moment I got home to the moment I had to go to bed, I spent playing this game. it was my everything growing up. and sonetimes I log back on, wishing to reminisce but it's just simply not the same. even if I did enjoy trading, everything from my account was hacked and i have no clue what anything is worth anymore. I wondered if it was just the fact im an adult now and all the childlike innocent mindset had faded from me, or if animal jam was truly just different. I'm tempted to just get on, get out the floor pillows and patches bamboo and all the foliage I can find and just start a roleplay of my own. I'd like to feel the same magic I felt all those years of my childhood
i've didn't have a lot of access to computers when i was younger, so i only grew up with ajpw, but i definitely see the similarities between the two. there's still some occasional roleplays and fashion shows , but it's way less common now. the animal hospital area used to be booming with roleplays but when u enter it now, it's almost always empty. i remember joining a warriors roleplay when i didn't know anything about wc, but it was still really fun and engaging. now whenever i log on, all i see is trading and shops, esp in the pillow room. it feels like all the game is now and it's impossible to even trade for or buy something u want if it's even slightly rare. its unplayable atp. if you want to have any kind of fun in the game, you have to buy gamepasses or spend hours trading up which just isn't fun to me :( one thing i'm happy about is that they made it so you can join packs without a membership, but most packs don't do runs or anything..
i only really played ajpw from beta-2019 so im not sure how it is now, but i have seen the abusrd pay-to-play bullshit, why is there no way to buy those coin boxes with sapphires?? they basically locked animals behind so much AND its all just gambling to get the right colors?!? animal jam is about customization, why would i want a unicorn if i cant change the colors? its completely insane and so predatory to children. when i used to beg my mom for those aj gift cards as a 9yo it was because it unlocked a cool exclusive animal that was all yours. im glad you were able to have a fun experience before all of this went down, i didnt even know ajpw had rares (used to be nutcracker boots, flower crowns and the rocker set which i hoarded lol). i have dizzy stars, light blue furry cuffs, a sugar glider etc which is apparently worth thousands? so confusing to me, its a shame play wild, which is supposed to be the new animal jam, has regressed as well 😔

In all seriousness, I think all the players acknowledge the problems that the economy brings to the game, but nobody cares enough to do anything about it. No new players are joining the game because it's WAY too much work to work your way up the nonexistent ladder, especially as a nonmember. It's just a sad cycle at this point -chunkers2009

Everything in AJ is now just advertising shops 🥲 AJ classic has no more daily x2 gems for “classic”. The game was so fun (still is if you’re a nostalgia lover or new player) but if you’re like me who played for yearssss then you miss the days where bepper and wisteria moon made videos and when a bunch of people would go watch the educational videos 😌 and play games together…it was fun !! Now it seems just everybody is trading and only cares about items even adults (cuz lots of us liked the old jambasadors turned into adults 😂 but only some of us who are now adults stuck with the game!
