ARGHHH TOMOKO YOU ARE A LIFE SAVIOR 😭❤️🩹 However i have a question like what's the tip/advice for animation commission? I've been trying to do tweening commission sheet but i still couldn't figure out on how to put up the price 😢, anyhow i really hope you could see this and could reply I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ❤️🩹
@@UnendingChaos_. tbh animation commission prices is super tricky cuz its way more work than a regular commission… i would still kinda have the same process of headshot/halfbody/fullbody stuff and basically start from 50$ as the minimum and 150 as the max. Its up to u what u feel its most comfortable, you can always reference other animation artist’s prices :,3
Also just a heads up but there's a difference between commercial and promotional use (some people call them both commercial use, but that's inaccurate): promotional use and merch use. Promotional would be for streamers to use as pfp, banner, pinned post, schedule art, etc. They're not making money directly off it. 90% of them aren't even making money off it, since they're indie, and too small to monetise their content. Either way, they wouldn't be making any profit off the art, since it's just a reference of their character. Merch use is for people to sell, well, merch with the artwork on it. That way they'd be making profit off the illustration, and you can either charge royalties (which is like, really tedious to do and keep track of) or charge them a percentage of the final price. I just think charging small creators ridiculous fees has been normalised when it's not even fair 🤷
2:40 you're wrong... depending on style, a headshot can take up to 10-12 hours. I said that because my headshots in realism take that you should charge per hour, so for example if a headshot takes u 1 hour, charge 7, if it takes 2, charge 14/15, if it takes 10, charge somewhere between 50-70, but ofc if you starting you could make 10 hour headshots for 20-30 bucks IF YOURE COMF WITH IT
just use whatever strategy works for you im just giving suggestions but, i personally those prices is what helped me. even if u spend that much time on working on a headshot or whatever, people might not buy it anyways. they only care about the quality of your work and if its appealing for them 😭
As someone who was looking to start taking commissions one day, this was a very helpful video Also what platform do you recommend for taking commissions?
@@silverstircker2.047 like i said on my vid is better everywhere but i would publish my examples/prices on kofi or vgen and just direct the link to ppl who are interested in the commission.
I’m watching this in hopes to help. Cause when I did do commissions I would do 5 usd for a fully rendered headshots and tired of underselling myself, and overworking myself.
Taking full payment upfront will prevent a lot of people from commissioning you, especially if you're not known and have no satisfied customers to back you up. Half payment plans are okay when you start, and you can always change them later on
@@takaradachi from what ive seen its safer to just do full payment, if the client is feeling uncomfortable commissioning you full payment there’s always another client willing to pay you fully. Idk to me its never worth doing half payments unless its a very pricy commission and i know this client personally. I rather lose a client than lose half of my money

once i commissioned an artist i saw on my feed for a danganronpa character chibi, but was refunded after a day and when i checked their profile apparently they made an angry post about someone commissioning them an 'irredeemable media'. well, i understand its flawed and problematic franchise (many franchise are), but iredeemable is a bit much... and its very rude and unprofessional to make an angry post if the client doesnt know you dislike something when youre free to refund without putting them on blast ;_;

What if i only do creature/dragon designs/animals that are almost always just sketches and then sometimes do digital art which im not that good at? Like i mean i just do flat colors, ugly boring linearts etc. And what if im also scared of posting my art on doscord, reddit, pinterest, anywhwre, and getting it stolen by people using ai for profit, companies using ai, or just peiple who steal or trace art and make it their own?
@@Peaneslol 😭 wow thats a lot to take in… well… 1) whatever you personally draw doesn’t really matter, just list what you can draw on the “will draw/wont draw list” 2) the sketches/digital stuff you say, honestly doesn’t matter either like… just do it anyways, you’ll eventually get people interested thanks to the style & quality of work that you have, so if you do sketches only keep them cheap and if you transfer them to digitally keep them intermediate. The thing on “not being good at digital art” again who cares, you get better through time and update your commission list whenever u have a banger art work 3) u seriously need to STOP GIVING A FUCK, post it anyways, add the watermarks/nightshade whatever to prevent getting ur art stolen/traced… and ngl imo i seriously dont give a shit if they steal/trace my art at this point cuz it happens eventually anyways… and at the same time IT ONLY HAPPENS TO “POPULAR ARTIST” Being a underrated/beginner/not popular artist wont get ur art stolen…. If u do the watermark pls do it tastefully and not annoyingly busy that can potentially ruin view for the artwork… :,) Even if you watermark your art you will still get traced/stolen art 😭 so… again just dont care about it and you should be fine.
Alright thanks you sound helpful, I'll try to do it as a small side hustle, to try and maybe get better, to maybe get a little bit of money, get to know this etc. Also if I don't wanna try PayPal from the start, could either sending a qr code with the exact amount or asking for bank account number (depending on the bank and/or country) be kinda fine? I could try setting PayPal, but maybe even just using the bank number would be fine?
@@Peaneslol hiiii pls dont fucking do that 😭 it’s incredibly risky, just do it through paypal or the other options i listed on the vid. saving thiz video since im planning to do commissions too!
I love love love this video!!!!
@@SailorSketches HEHEH THANK YOU SAILOR 💕💕💕
2:40 you're wrong...
depending on style, a headshot can take up to 10-12 hours. I said that because my headshots in realism take that
you should charge per hour, so for example if a headshot takes u 1 hour, charge 7, if it takes 2, charge 14/15, if it takes 10, charge somewhere between 50-70, but ofc if you starting you could make 10 hour headshots for 20-30 bucks IF YOURE COMF WITH IT
just use whatever strategy works for you im just giving suggestions but, i personally those prices is what helped me.
even if u spend that much time on working on a headshot or whatever, people might not buy it anyways. they only care about the quality of your work and if its appealing for them 😭
I LOVE YOU/p
As someone who was looking to start taking commissions one day, this was a very helpful video
Also what platform do you recommend for taking commissions?
Nice guide. Hopefully I can hone my art skills to the point where I can do commissions as a side hustle in addition to my current main wagie office job xdd

Where should i put my watermark in the artwork? Ive seen artists post with huge blaring watermarks/signatures but say they scale it down when sending to the client. I dont get how it works and the placemsnt of it.
@@yumebloom hii, it is a lil tricky to say because you kinda want to put it where it bothers the most so if someone traces over the sketch/lineart commissiok it will be hard to do so. Quick question, what would u price adopts?? (Simple and complex)
@@S0larsh1n3 hiii im actually planning on making an adopt guide vid but it all depends on your art style and if the adopts are made with bases or drawn from scratch.
Imo u should start w very low prices since its kinda hard to know if ppl are interested or not so, 10-15$ is a good set price and once you get some people interested you can start high up from 25-35$ the more attention you get from adopts the easier u can start highing up prices :3
I recommend to stay with 15-35$ adopt for a bit and moving on depending on the more effort you put into ur adopts and popular you get.

ok but HOW do I find customers?? I've opened my commissions a few months ago and I haven't received anything other than scam messages.
@@SehersuSarikayaOfficial hiii it takes a lot of time to actually get commission 💔 you have to try to catch ppl’s attention and try to post as many commission ads as u can (ofc without being annoying and spammy)
@@SehersuSarikayaOfficial i see a lot of people get them in popular art discord servers! in one of the ones i’m in, there’s even people requesting others to draw for them! you can show them your work and they can decide if they’d like to comm you! and of course you can promote your commissions there too :)
I want to do comissions but no matter how many videos i watch the payment option always confuses me 😞 and im also kinda anxious since ive seen other artists have bad experiences with PayPal
@@adore.pjsk00 hiii what is that confuses you? And um yea sadly PayPal does have some issues but its what most ppl use 😭 and its hard for ppl to use different one💔 either way any issues w paypal u can solve them (most of the time) with customer service :,3
Why do popular artists only seem to work with popular clients? Is this an ego thing? every time I try to commission a popular artists they ignore me, or say commissions closed yet do commissions for close friends? its so stupid
@@youngdefiant idk tbh it could be just personal preference of the “popular artist” maybe is the character you requested to them didn’t fit their preferences to draw it :/ but yea its super awful when that happens is best to just move on w a different artist who is willing to draw your character.
@@tomokokyun I see thanks so much for the reply
Thank you for this! I am starting my art journey and don't know what to do. But a bit of a question, would the invoice in paypay require for buyers to payy the transaction fee? Does that mean that to start commission you have a start up balance in your paypal account?
@@Krayzillepaigee hmmmm do u mean like do the clients need to pay for paypal fees? Like the payment needs to be the exact amount that you are charging? In that case yes they should pay the exact amount even if paypal is asking for the fee. Whenever i commission someone i make sure to give them the right amount cuz i know how annoying it is to recieve almost the exact amount :(
DID you saY .. BREAD?!
I just love your vtuber model you do comms of vtuber model?
@@MefDraw haiii ponymoe does actually have their comms open! U can commission them through twitter :3 (they do the art only btw)
once i commissioned an artist i saw on my feed for a danganronpa character chibi, but was refunded after a day and when i checked their profile apparently they made an angry post about someone commissioning them an 'irredeemable media'. well, i understand its flawed and problematic franchise (many franchise are), but iredeemable is a bit much... and its very rude and unprofessional to make an angry post if the client doesnt know you dislike something when youre free to refund without putting them on blast ;_;
@@_axetrax1 ngl yes i agree that artist was super dumb for even accepting that commission 😭 if they are uncomfortable drawing fanart of that franchise just decline it?? Why make the effort to make the angry post and refund u ughhhh
Either way good that they refunded u but that was def very unprofessional from them to make a rant post knowing u were the one who commissioned them.
I have a few YCH premade poses . I just gotta figure out pricing …
Some say $10-$25 is ether suspicious for a beginner price
But going $45-$200 is too expensive.
What a happy medium for a beginner price?
@@sweets_Cat88 45-200$ is insanely overpriced unless the 200$ is an animated commission
@@sweets_Cat88 it depends on what type of YCH youre planning to sell :,3 i can def help u! Just shoot me a dm on insta and I’ll try to see what i can suggest
@@Peaneslol 😭 wow thats a lot to take in… well…
1) whatever you personally draw doesn’t really matter, just list what you can draw on the “will draw/wont draw list”
2) the sketches/digital stuff you say, honestly doesn’t matter either like… just do it anyways, you’ll eventually get people interested thanks to the style & quality of work that you have, so if you do sketches only keep them cheap and if you transfer them to digitally keep them intermediate.
The thing on “not being good at digital art” again who cares, you get better through time and update your commission list whenever u have a banger art work
3) u seriously need to STOP GIVING A FUCK, post it anyways, add the watermarks/nightshade whatever to prevent getting ur art stolen/traced… and ngl imo i seriously dont give a shit if they steal/trace my art at this point cuz it happens eventually anyways… and at the same time IT ONLY HAPPENS TO “POPULAR ARTIST” Being a underrated/beginner/not popular artist wont get ur art stolen….
If u do the watermark pls do it tastefully and not annoyingly busy that can potentially ruin view for the artwork… :,)
Even if you watermark your art you will still get traced/stolen art 😭 so… again just dont care about it and you should be fine.
I understand your concerns but youll be better off with paypal than doing it through bank transfers.
And duh commissions are always a side hustle 😭 they are rarely a main source/full time job, ofc they can become that type of job but its pretty difficult 😔
I have a question, should I watermark the finished piece, too?
@@xxkillerkitsunexx2448 for the client or? I think u should watermark the final artwork if youre posting it online :3
Theres scummy ppl that steal/trace commission work 💔 so..
for the client it shouldnt be watermarked (ofc if the client already paid)
can you do comissions traditionally? I don't really do digitally but still want to take comissions 😔
@@Maliikirixx Hell yeah you can! You can also try to ship the OG artwork to the commissioner if you really want :) i also recommend that you scan your traditional artworks for better quality rather than taking a picture or you could do both

What if I'm an beginner artist that's like five months into making art? Then what should my prices be?
@@aspinrecordkeeper870 ngl i feel like beginner artists should wait a bit till their skills improve to do commissions. You can still try but is best when you’re confident with your work.
Also where can you post saying you do commissions and do you have to add I have to add one of my art work or leave it how it is

But i love sketches/lineart though ;_; i think there's a certain aesthetic to them, like sometimes ill make my icon a pic from a manga
@@SukunaYaoi yeah ofc, it depends on the sketch/lineart you are offering, personally i think that if u do a sketch commission at least give it a quick flat color :,3 and for the lineart i would prefer if it was a bit graphic or sharp
But yea either way sketches & lineart are “cheap” commissions since they arent fully finished artworks
When communicating with a customer can't I add a water mark until they pay me?
