    Hey mate great vids so far. I have binged all of them. I have a 2000xl and a 1000. I got right into dawless beat making and set up my 1000 with some small synths a while back made some cool tracks the goal was to be able to play a live set. I then lost inspiration recording everything back into the daw. I may have to pull out the xl and just jam.

    2 questions. Ok so when you say -30, that is just going down 3 semitones is that right? When you say going down from -30 to -90 and you go down by 30s because it keeps it in relation to the original sample, does that mean so it still stays in the same key as the original sample but is just pitched to a different semi tone of the same key?

    • @88XLmusic
      @88XLmusic  7 місяців тому +1

      yeah exactly. every +/- 10 on the 2000XL is a semitone. So in this case it would be 3 semitones.
      The second part of your question is a little harder to answer. Depending on the sample, and what chord or note is playing in the chop, you might have to tune it differently to stay in key. It all depends on what that note is in relation to the previous note you chopped. That's the best way to think about it.
      But in general, if you keep going down in the same intervals (whether its 30 or 20, or 10 etc), it makes it easier to hear the notes and know where you are in relation to the previous note or original chop.
      I basically just use my ear to determine how many semitones to shift the notes. I'm thinking of each chop as a key on a piano rather than a pitch I'm trying to stay in. So in this way, I play the pads like a piano if that makes sense.
      For example in the case of this video, most producers would keep their entire sample at -30, and thats fine. The reason I changed that note was to get a different feel. The reason I pitched it down was to get that warped feeling. If i wanted a brighter feeling, i would pitch it up.
      Hope that makes sense, maybe I can do a video specifically on pitching samples

    • @Koedean
      @Koedean 7 місяців тому +1

      @@88XLmusic That makes sense. I understand pitching and how it transforms the sounds by either extending or shortening the length of the audio and all that sort of thing.
      Like you said, normally I pitch the whole sample and stay within that pitch for all of my chops unless I'm using a single stab or chord note and making a melody from that on the piano roll. But I always stay within a semitone or few up and down but that's hit and miss sometimes..That's why I'm interested in learning this.

    • @88XLmusic
      @88XLmusic  7 місяців тому +1

      @@Koedean got it! yeah the 3 semitones is always a minor third away from where you start, so yeah in this case it would be in relation to the melody.

      @@88XLmusic thank you. One more question,does the 2000xl playback in mono or stereo? As in the finished beat?

    • @88XLmusic
      @88XLmusic  7 місяців тому +1

      @@Koedean its stereo, but you can sample in mono if you would like. I tend to only record a mono signal into my DAW for the drums and a stereo sound for the melody

    Si you said pitch it down.. but that means you slow the tempo of the song or just the pitch? And second.. you talk about seminars and -30 and I’m use a different gear a maschine.. it workers like -1,-2 etc so and those are like how o see the semitones so when you say -30 or -90 means -3 or -9 semitones?

    • @88XLmusic
      @88XLmusic  7 місяців тому +1

      in the MPC 2000XL, pitching down also stretches the audio. the audio doesn't stay the same length. So as you pitch down, the speed becomes slower, like when you are manipulating the pitch on a record player.
      And yes, if the machine is using actual semitones that's definitely easier to imagine. So yeah your example is correct.
