I always come back to this every few years. I remember watching (maybe live, maybe tape delayed) and feeling like we saw something really special. it’s one of those things that I’ll never forget.
This was my Dad’s favorite song. I had no idea that when I walked into my bedroom in my college house and this was playing during the closing ceremony, it would be only 1 month until I was with him in hospice for 2 weeks. I know that he is with me when I watch this. Dad, we’ve been through some things together. Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now.... Long May You Run.
Long may you run, Canada. You could be really proud of your country. Beautiful nature, lovely people...Vancouver 2010 was the best winter olympics I´ve seen ( I can´t see Lilehammer 1994, which was maybe even better, but still...). And we, Czech Republic, we reach nice results, 2 golds and 4 bronzes, only hockey was bad for us, so I enjoyed it even from this part. Neil Young - just what more beautiful choice of song you could made for to say good bye to these beatiful olympics:-) Great song.
That really was a bold and an inspired choice. It's hard to imagine another country having the sense of humour to go with something so low-key (and funny: because the damned song was about a car, not, y'know, running).
Canada has all the best performers, tying with the UK of course. 2010 was my favorite winter Olympics just because of all the talent that came out for the opening and closing ceremonies.
British Columbia Place's roof was non-removable at that time. The closing ceremonies were pretty much at room temperature. And that's pretty much his normal singing voice. Big difference between being the great voice and the great rock and roll voice.
Let us know your unforgettable Olympic Opening or Closing Ceremony moment and we will add them to a future #MusicMonday!
London 2012 Spice Girls!
Sydney 2000 Closing Ceremony: Nikki Webster - We'll Be One
There were so many of them! But for example ski jump with olympic torch in Lilehammer 1994
Ha! Nothing comes close to this!
I was there, it's like it happened yesterday, such a fantastic Olympics, and the Closing Ceremony , I will always remember.

Sorry for your loss. With trunks of memories still to come ❤
February 28th, 2020, exactly 10 years later. Still getting emotional when I hear the harmonica, and see the flames go down.
They made both opening closing ceremonies purposly to just make people cry I swear.
Tnx for saying this...

One of my favorite Neil young songs!!!
I was there at BC place for an amazing closing ceremony, what a timely song from this legendary singer for the ages
Thank you Olympics for posting this - Neil Young has a special place in my heart and these closing ceremonies were the prettiest I have ever seen.
The Pride of Canada
Gives me chills every time. Just so special.

Canada IS cool. Just sayin..
Another meaning would have pointed to the legacy that Vancouver 2010 would leave to this day, so it also counts too

He wrote it about his car. To me it means something different. That is the beauty of music.
You’re digging too deep chief enjoy the song
This was a great way to extinguish the flame
Breathtaking.
Beautiful ceremony...
Probably one of the best Closing Ceremonies to ANY Olympics I've seen.
Thank you Neil for a beautiful song about your car, but brought us all together again, atleast for 5 minutes.
Held voor altijd
So cool!
Bom demais 💕
Performed it at Conan’s last Tonight Show

Crushed it
He says 1962 on the record.
And?
Thanks for that enthusiastic comment. We all know. It's called improvisation.
@@therenegadej5764That’s it, nothing to add more by saying to him “and”, just period. 🤷🏻♂️
that moment
RIP to Mort.. 1948 Buick Roadmaster Hearse
Surely Winterlong would've been a better song choice, but who am I to judge a genius.
I haven't seen a bad one yet¡! Have you?
Not Justin Bieber?

At Neil's age, his voice didn't respond well to the cold. His voice was off a bit on several passages, but the emotional impact was there anyway.
that's how his voice always sounds. thats the beauty of it
As he told David Foster (who told Neil he was singing flat) during the recording of "Tears are Not Enough" - THAT'S MY SOUND, MAN!
Bullshit that’s exactly his style , real and emotive ! You’ve clearly not been a fan
