I’m so proud of my country.
In 2008, we had the major May 12th earthquake in Sichuan Province, nearly 400,000 people died, went missing or injured, millions of people lost their houses.
Meanwhile, the vast central and southern parts of China were stricken by a 100-year non-seen ice disaster. I was stuck at school for three months because all the traffic was cut off by the snow and ice. All the grade 3 students in high school walked from 5km to over 20 km on the icy road to get home for the Chinese new year, with our school bags, books, and luggages on our shoulders. We didn’t feel difficult, or sad, we never stopped one day of the school, we were cheerful and happy.
Meanwhile, we hosted the best (or one of the best) Olympic Games in history. Because we’re one of the toughest, smartest and most hardworking people in the world. I didn’t watch the complete opening ceremony in 2008 because I was busy preparing for my college entrance examination, but now, I feel so proud about it. I wish my country and people will be better and better.

2008年那年太难了，我在西藏当兵，还是新兵第一年，那年经历了太多的苦难，奥运会的时候在外面执勤没机会看，这会在抖音上刷到08年视频，然后才来看了完整的一遍！一开场我就泪崩了，因为那年我经历了国家困难时期的事情，中国经历千幸万苦走到这一步，吾辈们我们要好好珍惜啊！

I'm here! What an awesome gala in that summer for a country recently recovered from a catastrophic earthquake 3 months ago. Indeed they'd overcome another crisis as the global finance turnmoil soared 3 months after. Looks as if everything was under control by the regime albeit the numerous disturbances and containments from the west since then. Salute to the Chinese people!
I cried like four times watching this. I'm so proud of the Chinese people, setting the date at 08-08-08, showing the world your beauty and proving the West wrong. Love you China

Beijing Olympic is turning point in my life . I was frustrated in my life because of zero achivement, but when I watched the dedication and hard work of Chinese people, I changed myself completely, and put 💯 percent effort in my study and within 2 years I got two government jobs, which is equivalent to Olympic medals for me. Still watching this ceremony in 2023 and looking forward to the Olympics next year. I'm in tears whenever I watch this opening ceremony. Pure beauty with rich historical and cultural implications, with the message of "peace & welcome", "green & hope". That big painting was a fantastic idea because every athlete actually helped to complete it. Salute to the unbelievable hard work behind all performances.

I was one of the volunteers back in 2008. I was on my duty on the ceremony night. I can hear the fireworks but can’t see any. I saw the whole ceremony the next morning from TV. I was in tears. 12 years later, watching this in a second wave of COVID quarantine, I was in tears again. 5 spices in my heart.

2 documentaries you could watch ,called “fighting terrorists in xingjiang, made by Chinese government, you could skip what they say, just see the terrorises killing innocent people in streets, which caught by cameras, those are real things!!!! I have been in xiangjiang and Tibet both, all i can say is Chinese use different way to solve terroism problem. Tears trickled down as I watched this. So much artistry and aesthetics displayed in such a magnificent way! I can't help but be humble in front of the powerful feelings this open ceremony renders me. Saw a clip of the drummers on Facebook. And decided to come check the ceremony. It's so beautiful. I was young that time but it feels like something that happened today.

Everything in China is done at such a grand scale. Back in 2008 we even had a financial crisis. I watched with my mom, who passed away 3 years later, it was a very memorable time that I got to spend with her. She loved every minute of the show. But I don’t remember it being 4 hours long.

我现在40多岁了，感到最幸运的事情还是08年有朋友帮我弄了两张奥运会的票，让我现场看了女足决赛和博尔特破纪录的那场田径比赛。真是人生最美好的回忆之一，那样的氛围此后再也没经历过了，虽然回家时地铁人超级多差点被挤成照片。

@Marina Mansfield Yes I was one of the volunteers inside and I was in charge of showing people their seats and warm up the audience. It was a marvelous experience and when we went back it was already dawn the next day.

Chris Humble that firework is real! I’ve watched a documentary about how they prepare this opening ceremony, and one part of the video shows how they do the fireworks.
I come back to watch this every 4 years.

I mean... to be fair , it’s impossible to defeat China in term of history since it’s has so many rich history that many country don’t have. In fact, ancient China is so power that even Korean and Japanese are still using Chinese character 汉字 (even Korean are try very hard to get rid of Chinese letters for decade). I have my confident in India , simply because they’re also one of the e earliest civilizations that still exist today
We haven’t seen Tokyo’s yet there is a high chance they won’t beat this outstanding performance but there’s also a chance they could because of probably the Olympic flame 🔥 ( lm just predicting here btw) because l feel like Japan ‘s olympic flame is going to bit more cooler than China’s ( no offence to China 🇨🇳) so we are going to have to wait and see if Japan can beat China

I've never watched it, I was too little, but my sisters said it was the best. Seeing it now, I can definitely admit that nothing comes close to it. It's awesome.
