I never would have thought about Pera being a regular guest at the nutmeg tavern. His presence on this program is quite enjoyable.
I don't know how it ever happened but I very much enjoy it.
Yes he makes a great guest on the nutmeg tavern. Who is the lady behind Jon?
I quit watching tele a few years back, but him being on Townsends made me look it up on HBO and I adore his show. "strangely normal" as my coworker described it.
Indeed it is.
Joe seems delightfully awkward, and it’s very endearing.
It's just dawned on me that Jon is a classic straightman in a comedy act 😆 I enjoy this collaboration.
Joe and Jon are a perfect duo!
My god if Joe Pera is the funny man... But sure its still fun
Yanno, KA, your insight inspires me to compare Jon in this context with Mr. Johnny Carson, who always knew how to bring out the best from his guests, knew when to interject, and when to pull back and give the guest center stage. Jon and Joe work very well together
Imagine Joe Pera with a time machine, adventuring throughout history teaching life lessons and broadening scopes with nothing but his gentle demeanor and soft spoken voice
I think he would make a good companion for the current Time Lord!
@@victorianidetch Oooo, companion to the good Doctor Who -- good thought! I like it!
Randy -
Nah he'd be the best doctor who
@@PuertoRicanRattlesnake I'd take him as either character. Just imagine him soft-talking the Daleks!
@@PuertoRicanRattlesnake You might be right, with Jon as his companion!
I imagine joe as a friendly tortoise imparting wisdom and witticisms around the dinner table
The Adventures of Otto it is
Right! Joe is a staple at the tavern!
I love that Joe's starting to find his niche. His work has been pretty important to me for a few years now, so I'm thrilled that he's getting some recognition
"Joe Pera Talks With You" is the most wholesome thing on TV since Mr Rogers!
I second this!
No.
Mr. Rogers for people in their 30s
@@tomprice5496
Again no.
@@thebigdawgj Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.
I actually discovered Joe Pera through this channel and I couldn't be more grateful. It's also the perfect symbiosis of everything I like, living history and delightful comedian.
I discovered Joe from this channel. I really enjoy his comedy too
Same. Bought seasons 1 & 2 of Joe Pera Talks with You after watching him on this channel
Look up Joe Pera goes to Rhubarb Festival back when he was on MTV. Some of his best work.
Thank Na Na , I will.
Me too. These last few days have been very special in my head thanks to Joe Pera &tc.
The print of the wedding couple dancing is actually a farce. The wedding of Kloris and Roosje is a farce written by Dirk Buysero at the end of the 17th century or the beginning of the 18th century . The play was performed almost every year from 1707 around New Year's Day of the tragedy Gijsbrecht van Aemstel van Vondel . This remained so until the last performance in 1968 . The individual with the long script was in fact reading portions of the play. Amazing! Is this the longest duration for a play to be performed I wonder 🤔
It's cool, the esoteric things commenters know on this site.
@@timl.b.2095 Although I'm not familiar with the Fireworks picture with two illuminated columns going upwards, I don't think this is a representation of our concept of fireworks. Instead, it seems to be an illumination in honor of the Ascension of Jesus Christ on Easter. If you look at the figure rising at the top, you'll see the Latin word PAX which means Peace. ✌️
That is very interesting. Thank you for your insight
Never heard of Joe Pera before - I'm on the other side of NY touching New England - but as soon as I heard his understated humor ("Is that a Christmas tree?"), he became endearing. Long live both Pera's show and the Townsend Tavern! Happy 2022 Everyone!!!!
Seeing Joe Pera on this channel is simultaneously surprising and not at all surprising to me lol
Yea, I had "Ofcourse he is" moment.
The way John just stares at the camera satisfied asf, he knows Joe Pera’s worth and what makes him special 😂😂
I love the sound of a hurdy-gurdy. I couldn't take a steady diet of it, but it does have a very unique sound, and I love unique instruments. I would love a video on the popular/unique instruments of the 18th century.
There is a young musician who has made wonderful hurdy-gurdy music both classical and modern you might enjoy here on youtube... Patty Gurdy.
@@wayne00k @Wayne 00k I'll have to look that up, thanks! Peter Pringle has a few videos of him playing the hurdy-gurdy, as well as other esoteric instruments. There's also a UA-camr named Guillem Desq who plays the instrument. Look up his video for "Omen".
I could take a hurdy gurdy diet. I'd lap it up every day
I love these videos! So much entertainment and comedy these days is acidic and acerbic, if not bordering on hostile. Townsend videos - and Joe - are just damned pleasant to watch! I can actually feel my heart rate go from "manic panic lunatic holiday" mode to "calm and cheerful".
6:00 It's a Tabor pipe (a one handed type of tin whistle) and a drum. Playing the tune with one hand and hitting the drum with the other....you can see the mallet for the drum if you look closely.
We need a grand collaboration of all the guests from the past 3 years enjoying ye olde punch in the Nutmeg Tavern!
All get drunk and talk ish about red coats
Sounds like a great idea for New Years Eve
I believe a historic drink calls for Max Miller!! 🍻
Great to see ryan working the bar. I noticed an extra guest reading in the background as well.
Nice additions to "the room" !!
First I thought the lady was a mannequin until she moved.wished Ryan was interacting more in this than just bartending though. Anybody know who the lady at the tavern is?
@@tamarakosusnik2090 They did point out, at the start that this was not a 'live' tavern. So, no interaction from the other 'characters'. Just an interaction between Jon and Joe (as the voice of the audience)
I have to say having Joe Pera on was just genius. He just seems like he is really enjoying being there, and being part of the moment. He fits.
I have to be honest, coming from the UK I hadn't really heard of Joe Pera but his delivery is very relaxing and somehow comforting too.
lmao I can't believe this! what a treat. Really enjoy Joe.
This is an amazing collaboration. I hope it continues.
This is at least the 4th possibly 5th time he's been on
In the third picture shown, the musician on the left is playing a pipe and tabor, often associated with the medieval Morris Dancing, likely being danced by the participants because they are holding hands in a circle, common in country dances of earlier periods and becoming in vogue for dancing in the late 18th early 19th centuries among the gentry and upper classes.
Thank you for that explanation.
I really enjoyed the chat in the tavern as well as the 18th century related artwork. Once again, I colorized screenshots of the black and white works and the images are rather vivid. I like to think of the "Cotillion Dance" being re-titled, "The Prince decreed 'Party Like it's 1799!'" 😂 and the boisterous "A Midnight Modern Conversation" is especially humorous since the clock shows it's 3:00 AM! Lots of subtle details to convey the artists' messages. Thanks for sharing these period works with us 🙏
Ryanapple is actually working the bar today 😎 👍🏼
I wish you had introduced your lady guest, and what she is reading that is so interesting that she didn't join the fun you guys were having. Blessed be Townsends and thanks for another year of delightful videos.
Every time that lady turned away she was fighting back a smile or smirk!
What a comfort this was, Christmas has been hard for me. Thank you Townsends.
Thank you for introducing to Joe Pera, the past month I binge watched Joe Pera Talks with you 5 times
Joe is so delightful, I've been loving these guest episodes with him.
Didn't realize Joe is from Buffalo. I'm only an hour east of Buffalo, close to Genesee Country Village & Museum. Good to see a New York native in the Tavern!
Beautifully put together. Love the cozy tavern, the costumes, the music. What a beautiful way to educate us about the old ways. Thank you so much for your lovely work. Love you and Joe Pera too.
Love these colaboration series! Best part is Joe talking about donkey scaring parties! Kind of sad he did not get to see a christmas tree tho he seemed so excited about them! Happy new year to everybody!
Thank you for the nice visit at the Nutmeg Tavern today.
this is the “which celebrities would you like to have dinner with” lineup of my dreams 🥺
What a fabulous scene! It really transports us. And I am stealing Joe’s last toast 😂🥂 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone❣️
Joe Pera is a wonderful addition to your video casts! I really enjoy his voice and manner.
Jon, may you never be replaced, but rather supplemented. Have a great week between Christmas and New Years and may next year be the best ever -- we could surely use that!
A toast for Jon and Joe:
May your joys be as deep as the oceans, your troubles as light as its foam. And may you find, sweet peace of mind, where ever you may roam.
May friendship, like wine, improve as time advances. And may we always have old wine, old friends, and young cares.
And mushroom ketchup
@@MaggieTrudeau To nine years of mushroom ketchup, and to ninety and nine more!
And mushroom ketchup to spare!
Worked with joe back in 2009 and he just gets better and better.

Very good 💜 Merry Christmas, Nutmeg Tavern!
Joe, you are just delightful! The “egg shaped head” comment had me choking on my food with laughter. What a pleasant episode. And thanks to John for keeping this channel alive, growing and in the hearts of so many. Happy New Year to you all!
