emanuel tortorici you don't think John Meadows understands how his legs are affected by this exercise? Especially while being coached by THE Tom Platz?
emanuel tortorici yes it can. Ideally someone is shorter (short femurs) and has some flexibility when doing these. Tom looks at the persons body type heavily when he considers whether someone should do these or not. Great question.
There’s actually a name for that. It’s called myo reps. The idea is that the last 5 reps of a 15 rep set is where most of the growth stimulus is applied to the muscle. So you do 15 and take a small 10-15 second break and do 5 more, break and 5 more. The idea is to keep your body in the last 5 rep range through the whole set. And it will blow you up, downside is, even tho I work out pretty strenuously, if done correctly, those sets can be brutal.
Tom Platz, perhaps the best wheels ever. That 500lb x 23 rep squat video is brilliant. To say he is an expert in the leg department would be an insult. LEGend
TheOrbinson best wheels in 70s to 80s. But, nowadays Big Ramy, Ronnie Coleman during his reign, Branch Warren, Ben Pakulski .. These guys have bigger wheels than tom platz's
hes an expert in having good enough genetics to not break his knees and ligaments around it by doing this clown shit, give mountaindog a month of this training and he will never walk again.
Wow at 100% you would die lmfao, you can not train with 100% cause it means u dead lil bro, you can workout hard af and injure yourself that’s also not great, there is no real training to failure, just give your best and go beyond limits cause there are no limits it’s all in your weak brainz
You have an exceptional physique John. You are also a hell of a nice guy. Congrats on the workout with The Golden Eagle and thanks 4 posting. You two guys together is a great inspiration.
John is the perfect training partner for Tom Platz; he has what it takes to go beyond that pain threshold that Tom is so passionate for. Legendary men in the gym.
tom platz is legally insane. he felt being under the squat rack was a whole nother world, something all together it's own. ya know what that means? truly a man of class all his own, THE MOTHAFUCKIN QUADFAADAAAH.
A master of intensity! I am 45 years natural and 62 years of age and I bring intensity to every workout! I have a home gym, power rack, DBs from 5 to 100 O bar, trap bar and a few goodies but I have been enjoying my $10 PFitness membership, (particularly in January, my gym is in the garage) but to the point, trainees at PF do not know what to do with me! I have not been spoken to yet but I know no other manner of training! That set above is not every set for me, far from it but working out a body part, I am going close to failure, with maximum intensity, each set after the warm-up, and there will be the last set of some type where I press beyond complete failure. Failure on the squat - no, that would be silly but after that on the machine leg press - yes and beyond!
RIP John, I still watch your content from time to time. I have to admit I'm a bit sad and bitter when I see your old replies to comments because I'll never get one from you now.
Nice John, I love doing rest pauses like thus, especially on legs. It enables me to stimulate both types of fiber well. Plus the biggest thing is I'm using less weight on my joints.
That's so awesome that you got to train with Tom Platz I hope he was impressed with your legs I know everybody at World's Gym East was I'm so glad you met your goals in life I actually after training with you ended up at Gold's Gym Venice but Charles class was too busy and I ended up falling off the path I used to come to your place next to World's Gym East I used to use the back entrance to your apartment you probably don't remember me though so but I do wish you the best in life I hope you make a billion you are the best true stand-up guy
Before I agreed to have tom platz take me thru his leg workout I would need to clear my week so I could just lay in bed the whole time because I would be paralyzed from the waist down
I love how Toms not gonna let you have all the fun, even tho he’s coaching he’s gotta get in there and get some of that too. The dood just genuinely loves pain.
Crazy to be coaching by the master. The one thing I don't belive in is static training. Love to put bands on hacklifts makeing them 40-70kg heavyier at the top👍
Me: I'm hardcore to the core I'll train with anyone not scared at all Tom platz: let's hit legs tomorrow Me: fuck no I said I wasn't scared not suicidal
Miss you John! 🙏🏽🤍 Gotta respect the “ok” when Tom tells him one more on the iso holds.. None of that “no more, I can’t… it hurts” nonsense. Old school any day!!!
This was truly awesome, to have Tom coaching me...I am very blessed.
question, isnt the knee going over the toes a bad thing? does that put a lot of stress on the patella?
Yeah Man ! That is soooo cool ! congrats ! Thanks for sharing too !

"whenever you feel the burn, you instantly got 5 more."
-Tom Platz
Only people who train legs know this legendary quote
After those five more, you got five more again, and again, probably even again once more
Once you do those five do 1 more.. and another… and another..
For real though. Training legs is hard because when you think you can't do any more reps you can most likely still do at least 5 more.
from now on i train my legs

Tom is the best guy to watch train someone his passion and level of intensity is great just love the guy
So close to a million views. We’ve gotta’ make it happen for two of the absolute best dudes in bodybuilding history.

Agreed. Feels so good afterwards too.
R.I.P. Extra Reps for John
Can you imagine seeing this in the gym nowadays? I'd ask if I could get a set in too! The teamwork and motivation was awesome to witness.
That heals together really hits the VMO ; even more at near full extension with that isolating mini- squats.
