Tom is a great trainer. He tries to calm him down in the beginning, taking the intensity down a few notches because he could tell he was nervous. He established a base, and then turned it up to level 100 right at the appropriate time. Amazing.

Always maintained that he had one of the most impressive minds he’d ever met, and absolutely one of the nicest guys. What so great about this video is you can see Tom’s respect for the man he’s training, and how passionate he is about seeing someone else improve. Truly a great teacher.
Platz legit had one of the most perfect squat techniques I have ever seen in my life. 30 rep sets with over 300lbs and the last rep was always as perfect as the first.
This whole notion that the last rep has to look as good as the first is bullshit, you should deviate from perfect form to squeeze as much as you can out of the muscle at the end or you are simply not trying hard enough
These old school men are the real deal. Muhammad Ali never counted his jump rope. He said he jumped until he cannot feel his legs. And that was the warm up.
Platz has been around a whole long time. He knows real failure when he sees it and that was real failure. He knows he’s dealing with an advanced lifter so he wasn’t going to push him and risk injury.

As always, the intensity that Tom Platz brings to any workout is second to none. His five more rep mentality is enough to push anyone past their limits. It's a training style I have implemented into my own training and the results, both mentally and physically, have been phenomenal.

One of Platz’s friends trained me back in my early 20’s. All of this brings back the memories. He told me Platz would take 75% of his body weight & squat for 15 minutes. Jim got me to do it with 135 & it was hell like I had not felt before.

Tom Platz is widely regarded as one of the all time hardest working men in all of pro bodybuilding. I mean up there with Ronnie Coleman, Mike Mentzer, Dorian Yates. His workout intensity is beyond extreme and it’s impressive to watch.
In the 90’s in my first gym there was this b/w photo hanging on the rack of Tom passed out after squatting 145 kg 2x50. Still an inspiration after all these years.
Thing I love about his training method - it's basically three exercises, pushed to honest true failure. So simple but undeniably effective. I'll never get to this level of physique (either of them), but the gains I have made have come down to these training principles

Oh my God I got to the point where I could barely even get it past my elbow because the tension point at the very top so I had to start doing assisted reps at the very end, because I was pushing 60 curls bro you did not realize how shredded you get when you are pushing every part of your body to get you one more rep 😂
