You're doing God's work man. It's absurd how much money it costs to get into NV... for those of us lucky enough to save up for it, it's nice to save a few hundred on the ear pro like this.
I paid 1800 to build my own pvs14 paid 65 dollar for old surplus pasgt helmet converted it into a high cut, so I'm $2300 in a long with my gen 3 + tube costed me $1,000 it was government contract factory overrun green phosphor tube. I used my old walker razor ear pro as well, and I have two pairs of them, and set of earmor m32 comms for use when I swap em. I also have a unconverted usgi surplus ACH helmet made by MSA I bought for $300 size large off eBay that I'm keeping original only because I like having two different options for two different applications
Gents, remember; this is a great set up for a beginning point into headsets. You will never regret spending money on some amps/comtacs/etc. the ability to identify which direction a sound is coming from is massive. Save up! Me and my guys got into Comtac VI’s and they have more than surprised me. It’s a big difference know that you are getting shot at, and knowing WHERE you are getting shot from.
I've been meaning to do something like this for my helmet and this explained it really well. Definitely helps to see it done before jumping in for a "Measure Twice Cut Once" approach
@@TacticalAdvisor have you thought of maybe putting a little bit of electrical tape or liquid gasket. I know you don’t have trouble with the ears moving but maybe for people who have that problem.
Hey man. I’ve been looking for instructions for this exact project for a while. Thank you so much for the straightforward and direct instructions. Subbed here
Exactly what I was looking for. My walkers feel great, electronic hearing is great, can hook up with a cable, like I really don't want to spend $400 to $600 on comtac peltors so this is perfect. Thanks so much!
Well commtacs arnt solely hearing protection they are comms . So this set up is great for larping at the range but communicating with your team should the SHTF your gonna be in trouble
I just did this to mine and it works, but it is possible to slip the ear cups off the wires. bending the wires inward helps with tension and keeps them on better
I've found some of those prongs aren't thick enough to hold onto the Walkers sleeve. You can sand the prongs and apply a (I used 2) coats of an epoxy resin to the wire, let it dry, and then sand it smooth and small enough for the sleeve to snugly fit over. Some people glue their headphones to the wire, but that seems like a waste as you may want to use that old headband at some point without the helmet.
This is a game changer now that Walker has the “Razor Walkie talkie attachment.” Basically you can get coms for less than $100 instead of spending $600-1200 on peltors or opscore
Spend a few more bucks on the Razor Quads, for 360* hearing amplification. I've had the mic jack pop out so many times on the standard Razors I never use it anyway. You can run an ear bud mic under the cups, and it works fine for quiet comms. A lot of PTT Mic's have a plug for an earbud anyway.
All your missing is noisefighters gel cups for your helmet set up! I have a pretty similar set up to you and the gel cups are a game changer and reduce a bit more sound as well. Cant wait to hear a review on that light!
I'm running baofeng comms into my walkers and love it. But you can't use baofeng PTT hand mic cause they break easy. The company "code red" sells rugged hand mics that work with baofeng/Kenwood.
I did this with a cheap bump before I got my ballistic hat. Gonna have to see how the walkers work on the ballistic. They wouldn’t compress against my head when I put them on the bump helmet.
On the topic of fitting a helmet and pads-there is a reason that helmet manufacturers have “fit guides” and “fitting kits” for their specialty helmets. As noted, the helmet is the nerve center for most of the warfighter’s sensory gear: communications headset, night vision goggles, O2 mask, gas mask, and so on. And the head is a very sensitive part of the body. The helmet needs to protect your brain from TBI/ballistic threats while keeping all the aforementioned gear stable and in ready-use placement, all while creating the least amount of discomfort. It is absolutely imperative that a helmet is fit properly to the wearer. If it’s too small, the fit will be too tight and the wearer will experience a pressure headache. To relieve this pressure he may opt to use thinner pads, which leaves him open to possible traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the event of blunt force trauma to the head. If the helmet is too big, the shell could move around on his head during use and compromise coverage in the event of ballistic threats, while also shifting mission-critical gear around. I always recommend biasing toward the larger option if your head measurement puts you in between sizes. The difference can be made up with pads and chinstraps. If your measurement puts you squarely within the range of a specific size, then you may consider yourself lucky and you should stick with that size. One thing is certain: Wearing a helmet that’s too small for your head is one of the most miserable feelings.
Maybe it's my head shape or I screwed up somewhere or something but I just did this with my set of walker earpro and now they don't press firmly against my ear, any way to adjust this?
I recommend crimping the wire that goes into the slot of the plastic. Just a slight crimp will stop that from happening. You can also do a second change too... Put the wire in a clamp, and then hit the end of the wire, with a hammer and splay the end apart by flattening it. Don't do it too hard, but it will do what's needed.
Did you make sure that they are pushed all the way in? There are 2 positions. If they are in the second position they will sit away from your ear. If you push them in they will click and be on your ears
The only issue I have with the walkers is when you rotate them off your ears, they don't hold shape when you rotate them back, and the seal isn't great.
get a assorted pack of safety pins. Put the rail in the hole then find which size safety pin that goes in the hole with the rail. tis will act as a shim. get your trauma shears and cut the pin to size and shove it in until tight.
fun fact, if you pry the plastic piece from the headphones then turn them 90 degrees they should come out as intended so that they dont fall off under normal use
Can you reuse the original wires that hold the earmuffs in place the peltor ones are loose on mine & slide up & down almost come off the exact problem you’re not having 😭

My problem is that they do not seal completely over my ears and does not provide ample hearing protection, especially at the lower ends. I push them in as far as I can and have no idea how to make them fit over my ears any better. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
I did this but I am having a hard time getting them to seal completely off on the bottom because they won’t go up far enough under the helmet and if I keep trying to push it higher one of the mounting clips pops off of the ear muff. I’m upset I ruined a good pair now. Im using a ops core bump with arc rails and peltor mounts. They seem like they aren’t wide enough for the walkers.
check out the gel ear pad upgrade. these help to create a better seal in my opinion. you might be able to save them yet! ua-cam.com/video/G4luiJ2nrtY/v-deo.html
I did this set up on my helmet with an old pair of walkers. Very secure and no problems with the mounts but I can't seem to get the muffs high enough! They are pushed slightly up inside the helmet cut and its still not high enough to not sit on the tops of my ears. They sit lower on my jaw and I can hear the muff unseal when I turn my head left and right. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Having the same problem. Plus if I keep trying to force it higher or make a better seal on the bottom one of the clips keeps popping off. Very frustrating. I’m using an ops core bump helmet.
Are those the Razors? Do you have directional awareness? Mine sound like a mono channel split in two. I can’t tell if the sound is coming from front/back or which side. My Howard Leights at the same price point, no problem whatsoever
