An Easy Fix When Your Loader Has Quit Working

  • Usually about three times a year I get a panic e-mail or message from one of my viewers, because their loader has quit working. I like these messages because the fix is easy and takes about five minutes and doesn't cost anything.
You can tell you have this problem is you've been brush hogging in the woods, or, if you've recently taken your loader off and put it back on. What has happened is, a hydraulic hose has come loose from a coupler and all you need to do is plug it back in and you're fixed.
In the video I show a hose that's not attached. It will almost never be this obvious. Usually, all the hoses LOOK like they're plugged in, but one has popped out just enough to prevent the flow of hydraulic oil. The symptom will be that either the bucket won't tilt or curl, or the main frame of the loader won't go up or down...everything else will work, including the three point.
To fix the problem, turn off the tractor. If it's been running for an extended time, I'd let that hydraulic oil cool so you don't burn yourself. Then let the loader arms all the way down to the ground to take all the pressure off the lines, and then wiggle the joystick in all directions, just to make absolute sure the pressure is out of the system. Get your gloves and a shop rag and it's time to find the problem.
It may take a little work to find the hose that's unplugged. Like I said, most of the time it'll look like it's plugged in, but it's just loose enough that there's no hydraulic oil going through it. Plug it back in and test it, you should be good to go.
If you're around tractors long enough, this will eventually happen to you. The good news is, this is one of those easy fixes that'll allow you to get back to work quickly.

So I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with the loader on my Kubota. Low on hydraulic fluid but that didn't fix it. Came inside and watched this video (thanks for being short and to the point) Frustrated I say "this is BS" since my tractor is old anyway. Figure ok, I'll go check. Sure enough it was the upper fitting, not sure how this happened. Maybe when I was moving snow around. Thank you much....still learning

Kubota has a design that hooks them all at one time , its a junky design that leaks alot and you can't get repair parts for it unless you go through kubota , I ripped it off and threw it in the trash , made a bracket for quick connectors and found the shortest ones I could find

Are you still around Tractor Mike ?? I see this video is from 7 yrs ago?? I asked you last year, never got any reply from you?? I have a 3032E , my loader had no power at all but my Brush Hog was just fine. I finally took it in , they repaired it , told me that John Deere company never intended to have Impliments in the front of the tractor , only in back, so if s person wants a loader the Hydrolic system has to be Modifyed. And a Splitter is put in ?? They said that mine had come appart. They reattached it( under the seat) and glued it in so that would never happend again ???? Is this anything you have ever hears of before!?? Does it sound right??

Thanks, I just blazed a trail through the woods, and my loader would only go 1/2 up. I though for sure mechanical obstruction. I googled, and sure enough, it was fitting popped just far enough to work, and when pulled ona little, came out far enough to stop flow. Thanks, I was by myself, and my tractor wont stay running when I get off the seat, so I can like work the lever from the side and see what is happening

Hey Mike, you literally just saved me a bunch of time and money. Mine would lift about 2 inches and stop. I came in and found your video on youtube and it was EXACTLY what you said. Re-seated the coupler and all is well. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video.

Thanks Mike, I did this to my tractor last weekend. One caution note, make sure the coupler is not damaged. My case when the hose pulled free from the quick connect I damaged the 'O' rings and couldn't get a good seal. Thankfully I have great support from my service department.

Thanks for the great tip! Just had this happen to me. First I checked the cylinoids at the bottom of the valve bank since previously I had to drain a little fluid out of them because the bucket was moving so slow going down. I did get a little more fluid out of them and thought when I put it back together it would work just like the last time I did it. Well, it did not. Messed around a little longer trying to figure it out, before I came in and found this tip by Tractor Mike. Went back outside and found one of the quick disconnect coupler was not in all the way. Thanks Mike!

You really helped me I tried bleeding lines and still the loader would not come down. I had been bush hogging when the loader stopped working, just as you said, and sure enough a hose came uncoupled. I want to thank you so much and the only way I can is by subscribing, and that's what I done. P.S. I called a local tractor mechanic who installed this loader and he didn't know, "maybe could be a a blown cylinder" was his reply.

  • @TKeller115

Thank you. I've been cutting up downed trees fron Hurricane Idalia when all of a sudden the loader would only go part way up and had limited power. The dealer is an hour and a half away and I don't have a choice I need the tractor functioning. It dawned on me to check UA-cam and low and behold was your video. I must have bumped the quick connection as you predicted. Thank you very much.

Hi Mike. Thank you, Thank you Thank you...... I have a JD5075E with a Tenías T10 fel. Few days ago suddenly bucket wouldn’t curl. It did seem to have hydraulic pressure input, but would hang limp and not curl in or out. No leaks, no breaks, no bent pistons etc. Checked connectors, and all seemed well. Thoughts of major repairs by unexperienced techs ( not many tractors here in Curacao....). Bsed on your advice, decided to pressure clean the toy, and do complete check of all connetcors. Lo and behold in the rear, indeed, the hydraulic is tapped off from a rear aux output and relayed to fel.... one connector was slightly ajar.......
