This was so helpful for a total newbie!!
Thanks! Here's some recipes to get you started www.pressurecookingtoday.com/easy-pressure-cooker-meal-plan/ Have fun!
I found your channel and I love it. I ordered the RIO to replace my old Instant Pot that I bought at least eight years ago. Unfortunately, it isn't working very well, so I am replacing it with the RIO.
Same happened to me. I had my first instant pot for years and my husband recently broke it. He owes me a new one now lol
Thank you for the video on RIO. It really helped
Thank you for this review! I'm going to buy an instant pot but a different model.
Lots of good ones to choose from. Have fun!
I like the easy way you reviewed this instant pot.
I have the Instant Pot Duo for about 4 yrs and now my daughter is getting married so I thought I'd buy her this new one because I like the release button a lot better than the one on the duo. I was always terrified about using pressure cookers, but once I learned, I am not "that" afraid.😄
I am subscribing to your channel and can't wait to watch more of your videos!😃
That's so nice - thank you!!! Such a great gift. Congratulations!
I just ordered the new 7.5qt short, wide version of the RIO! cant wait to try it out. im sure it will be much better than my old duo
Awesome - we just completed our review www.pressurecookingtoday.com/review-instant-pot-rio-wide-plus/ and hope to film the video soon. Have fun!
My Rio arrived today which led me to this video. Very detailed! Thank you! I bought it to make bone broth. Have you ever done a video on that?
Thanks! We don't have a bone broth video, but we do have posts on making stock www.pressurecookingtoday.com/chicken-stock-in-the-pressure-cooker/ For bone broth, use bony chicken pieces like chicken wings and cook it twice as long. Have fun!
I make bone broth regularly in my instant pot..... I save up bones in the freezer. Then drop bones (frozen is fine) in IP with water to cover. Add veg scraps or (like I do) just add onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper., bay leaf, and a 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar (this brings out the bone essence). Set for 2 hours on high pressure. Let it naturally release about 30 mins. Do NOT quick release or it sprays all over. Strain and separate into containers. I freeze portions for future recipes.
@@Meggs23 thanks for sharing!
How does it perform in steam mode? Do you keep the button to vent steam? Thanks again ladies for the video!!!!!
On this model, Steam is a pressure cooking function, so you'll want the vent closed. Use a steamer basket with water underneath to steam. For tender vegetables like broccoli, you'll want to steam for zero minutes - just comes to pressure and then you quick release the steam.
Hi! I just got this a few weeks ago, and I am loving it. I noticed the "steam" feature was not in the manual anywhere? When I hit steam and set the timer, it looks just like when I choose "pressure cook" it says ON but with the steam it never counts down the timer, so I am always confused with that. Any tips for the steam feature?
Hi Sarah - Steam is a pressure cooking function with a preset time, so if you're using enough thin liquid, it should count down.
Hi,
Thank you for this!! I am an absolute noob and this helped so much. I have a couple of questions; when you pressure cook, can you change the time to cook it a little more? Second question, does the rice preset option work fine for rice cooking and if you are slow cooking meat; do I select both the pressure cook and slow cook options?
Thank you again :)
Hi! Many people like the rice preset, but I prefer to use the pressure cook function www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-white-rice/ If you're slow cooking, just select the slow cook option. Have fun!
I got the IP Pro in December. This Pressure Cooker is absolutely wonderful!!! This model is lacking in many ways.
The pro is wonderful
Thank you for a very thorough review. You mentioned the odor on the silicone gasket. I read somewhere that you can deodorize silicone containers or tools by baking them at 350° Fahrenheit for 20 to 60 minutes.
Thanks! I have tried baking the gasket but didn't like the results. But you can try it and see if it works well for you.
Darn. I had my hopes up that it would work. The only other thing I've heard is that putting crumpled-up newspaper inside of plastic containers deodorizes them, so maybe wrapping the gasket in newspaper and sealing it up inside of a plastic container or zippered bag would work. But you've certainly convinced me that I want that pot.
Some swear by putting it out in the sun. I just put the lid upside down on the pot and it eventually airs out. You definitely should get a pot :) @@elliria_home
Bar Tenders Friend does the absolute best to make your SS pot look like new!
Agreed Bar Keepers Friend is a great way to keep your pot sparkling clean.
Great share thank you! Mine is supposed to arrive today. I’m looking forward to using it and this video definitely gives me a better understanding of the device.
Glad it was helpful! Have fun!
Will you be doing a video for the wide plus?
Yes, we hope to film it next week.
Is it necessary to close the lid when i use the satay button? Will it work if I don’t put the lid on?
You always saute with the lid off.
Hi! For this rio whst is the easiest way to cook rice? When I click the rice option it stays in pre heat
I think the best way to cook rice is using the Pressure Cook feature and high pressure. ua-cam.com/video/wkReMWiT5M8/v-deo.html
How does this latest Rio / Duo compare to the "ultimate" edition which you reviewed previously (with the fixed lid)? Pricing looks similar, at least here in the UK. Which is better? Thank you!
If you have room in your kitchen, I prefer having a separate air fryer and pressure cooker. Also, people have been having trouble with the Ultimate lid float valve sticking and you can access it. So I'd go with the Rio.
@@PressureCookingToday Thanks!! Only just discovered your channel, it's great. I have just bought Electric Pressure Cooker Cookbook online and waiting for it to arrive.
Thanks - have fun!@@aspiringistari
Insane!!!
Just purchased the Rio a few weeks ago and am learning to use it. I’m new to the pressure cooking world! My Temp level lights don’t seem to light up and I can’t seem to switch level of temperature….although I can adjust my time up and down. How should I do this?
The temperature levels only work with the non-pressure cooking functions, saute, slow cook, and yogurt. Select Saute and then press temperature up or down arrows to adjust.
Oh, that’s very interesting! I just made some pasta using a recipe in a cookbook that said to cook for five minutes on low. I received a “Food Burn” warning at the end and had some scorching on the bottom. I assumed it was because my Rio was set on a high temp. (This recipe was for the Duo.). So do I add more liquid or reduce the cook time in the future? Thanks for your help!!
@@user-nq5qo6it9h The Rio does not have a low pressure option, but I almost never use low pressure. The Burn notice was probably from too little water being added or including ingredients that need to be added after pressure cooking or layered on top of the pasta. Generally when you get the burn notice for pasta, it's best to finish cooking it using the Saute function. www.pressurecookingtoday.com/the-instant-pot-burn-message-what-to-do-and-how-to-avoid-it-in-the-future/
Thanks so much! You’ve been very helpful!
So do I have to switch to venting even for "natural release"
No you don't have to do anything, the pressure will naturally release. Here's more info ua-cam.com/video/gafrMz41rpg/v-deo.html
Please, post a video on how to use Rio’s yogurt function. I failed in both attempts. Thanks.
Great suggestion! There's a FB group that can help you trouble shoot. facebook.com/groups/InstantPotYogurt101/
Do you know if the bowl in the Rio is the same weight/quality as the one in the Pro?
The Pro inner pot has handles and is not interchangeable with the Rio but they're both the same stainless steel.
@@PressureCookingToday Thanks
True i never saw how to put the timer mine is stuck in four minutes
Generally, if your IP isn't counting down, it's because you've put it on for four hours instead of minutes. Did you press delayed start perhaps?
@@PressureCookingToday totally right this was my husband’s pot and I didn’t want to interfiere but yes you are right and I realized it when I saw another video thank you 😊 now taking advantage of your kindness; when I press Pressure cook and set the time in this case I used 12 mins for a whole chicken , the pot starts counting until it pop out the thing ? Not since the beginning correct? And when is ready tells you ? Sorry 😢 but is the first time I use it
yes, the time won't start counting down until the float valve has risen and it has reached high pressure inside the pot@@patriciarivera8290
@@PressureCookingToday thank you very very much for your help, it looks a little complicated in the beginning 😢
it can be intimidating at first@@patriciarivera8290
Is it compatible with the air fryer lid?
According to their website, the air fyer lid is not compatible with the Rio www.instanthome.com/product/instant-pot/air-fryer-lid-6-quart
What is the 1, 2, 3 and 4 with a little heart for? And how do you set for high, medium, and low?
I hope you cook something in this pot and show us clearly how to use the pressure pads.
Since the Rio is new we don't have a lot of videos using it but we did film this one ua-cam.com/video/KVNlEHMs7Xg/v-deo.html@@saintrude
High, medium, and low are for the saute, slow cook, and yogurt functions. The Rio only cooks at high pressure.
Thank you. I really don't need a recipe, I need to know what the buttons are for. 1, 2, 3 with a heart tells me nothing. Some are labeled so you know. It also says High, Medium, Low but no light or anything to show what to push or even IF you have pushed. It's a very confusing machine.
@@PressureCookingToday
Have you done a water test to familiarize yourself with it? www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-water-test/ Press cancel or unplug and then plug the IP in, pressure Pressure Cook and the light above Pressure Cook will light up. Use the time arrows to adjust the time and press start. That's really all there is to it.@@saintrude
If I use the Pressure Cook button and the recipe calls for low pressure how do I change it?
Reduce the cook time when using high pressure instead of low.
Please may I know if is possible “bake” bread on this pot?
You can rise your dough on the low yogurt setting, but you'll need to bake it in the oven.
@@PressureCookingToday ah ok thank you 😊
Aloha, excuse me if I missed it, but what size is that one?
Aloha! It's a 6 quart. They have an 8 quart but it is wider and shorter. We're reviewing the 8 quart soon.
@PressureCookingToday Mahalo 🤙 , I just ordered 6qt RIO on Amazon Prime right after watching your video. And you have a new subscriber 😊

When I make stew it takes 3 hrs to cook and for preheat it takes more than 1 hour. Am I doing something wrong?
Yes, something is going wrong. It shouldn't take that long to preheat or cook stew. Here's my stew recipe www.pressurecookingtoday.com/beef-stew-in-the-pressure-cooker/ Have you done a water test? www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-water-test/
Could you show how to make yogurt in the rio please
That's on our to-do list. Thanks!
How do i use the timer?
Select one of the settings, for example pressure cook and then use the plus or minus to adjust the time. One pressure cooking is finished and you have the Keep Warm setting on, the time will start to count up instead of down.
I’ve tried cooking oat meal and every time it burns. What am I doing wrong?
We've got a great video on cooking oatmeal ua-cam.com/video/QgO6wvcz28I/v-deo.html
Where can I rest the lid?
The Rio has lid fins and you can put the lid in the slots in the housing. You can see it pictured in our review post www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-rio-review/
Why I don’t see you pressing the keep warm button before u press start. Thought is default. Shall I ignore it too? I was cooking soup and water to the max line. It kept saying preheat and the steaming was so loud and long. I cancel it. What shall I do. Why is the steaming out when the vent is lock
The Keep Warm button is on by default and you don't need to turn it off and on each time. I generally leave it on all the time. You can ignore it too. The steam will come out around the float valve and push it up to lock it closed. If you see steam coming out around the sides of the lid, your gasket isn't in place properly.
@@PressureCookingToday thank you for the feed back but just one last question. Does the steam comes out during preheating. I tried for the second time with maximum water for soup and the steam does not stop until like almost 15 mins. Is this normal for all preheating.
@@800lovette No 15 minutes does not sound normal. There will be almost no steam during preheating until the liquid is boiling inside the pot. Then steam comes out for a few minutes, the float valve (silver metal) rises and seals, then very little steam should be released. Do you see the float valve rising?
@@PressureCookingToday yes the silver metal does rises but the steaming release was so strong and powerful but once preheating stop the silver metal drop. I cancel the whole process and pour the broth to my normal pot and cook it on top of the stove. I never use it since then
@@800lovette check the metal float valve and make sure it has a small gasket on the inside of the lid holding it in place. You can see it in this post www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-parts-reference-guide/ If it does, then you should do a water test with just 1 cup of water. www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-water-test/
My instant pot Rio is not pressure cooking and the lid doesnt seem to lock!
Do you have the silicone gasket in place?
can someone yell out the rio jerkey settings .. for me... thanks
I killed one by putting food ito the base without the liner. I had a small amount of moisture which killed the second instant pot.
That's so frustrating!
...Pressure cook setting does not allow to set to High Temp?....Does not release ANY steam during countdown?....Without a gauge or steam releasing, how do you know it IS Pressure cooking?....
As pressure rises inside the Instant Pot, you will see some steam release as it pushes the float valve up and seals the pressure cooker. While pressure cooking, the float valve remains up and the lid is locked. The time will start to countdown. When the time has counted down to zero, the pressure will begin to release as the heat inside the pot drops. Eventually, the pressure inside the pot drops, and the float valve falls back down, the lid can then be opened. You could also quick release the pressure, depending on your recipe. ua-cam.com/video/gafrMz41rpg/v-deo.html This model only cooks at high pressure (I rarely use low pressure) The pressure cooker cycles the heat on and off to automatically maintain the temperature inside the pot. You cannot control the temperature.
3 cups in the manual
You can use 3 cups, but it isn't necessary and it takes longer to come to pressure and you won't want to use that much liquid with most recipes.
I didn’t get a manual
Here's a link to download the manual p.widencdn.net/glxxxf/IB_112-0212-01_Duo-V6-Unibody-6QT_User-Manual_US_FINAL_LowRes_070122.pdf
It takes 25 min to preheat
The time it takes to pressurize varies depending on what you're cooking. If your pot is full of cold ingredients it can take 25 minutes to come to pressure.
No handles on the inner pot, disappointing.
Recommend the Pro if you need handles. It’s doesn’t cost that much more. I I prefer no handles as it’s easier to store in my tight fridge.
Did you buy this for you own money?
Yes, we bought this ourselves to review. We try to review all the new models.
This isn't a "how to use" it was an overview that is a waste of time if you want to know "how to" use it!
