      It’s a fun little setup. It’s a 223 in the video but I have my 6.5 set up identically to this. They both have aftermarket barrels from Patriot Valley Arms on them now though. Rebarreled the 6.5 because I burned the barrel out on it at around 1,700-1,800 rounds through the factory barrel. And I replaced the 223 barrel just because I wanted a heavier profile barrel

    Awesome build! It’s hard to tell in the video... is that bolt handle stainless or black anodized? And how did you get it to match the bolt so well? Thanks for the vid

    • @lucass4758
      @lucass4758  5 років тому +3

      BiFFJoHNS0N the bolt handle is Black Anodized, as well as the bolt knob. They come from Anarchy Outdoors, who will also give you a firing pin removal tool for an additional $8, which I highly recommend grabbing. It makes the change out a breeze.
      The bolt itself is fluted and microslicked(the black color) by AD Arms Custom Rifles. AD Arms also made a new firing pin back, which is much stronger than the factory MIM one, so I picked that up as well.
      Between the AD Arms firing pin back, polishing the machining marks off of the surface the cocking cams rotate on, and the Anarchy Outdoors bolt handle/knob, the rifle feels like a COMPLETELY different rifle while cycling the bolt. The amount of force to recock the bolt is way down, and it’s so much smoother

    • @lucass4758
      @lucass4758  4 роки тому +1

      My particular chassis takes AICS magazines but that was my choice. This rifle, Predator in 223 Remington, used AR15 magazines when it was in the factory stock, so I could have used the ICD MoFo chassis that takes AR15 magazines if I had wanted. The reason I went with the ICD MoFo chassis that uses AICS magazines is so that I could run the longer, heavier, higher BC bullets and still magazine feed them, which is not possible from an AR15 magazine depending on what bullet you want to use and how long the cartridge is going to be

    • @lucass4758
      @lucass4758  3 місяці тому

      @@BIGDEZUL for me, it feeds so much smoother/softer from AICS magazines. I believe that is due to the tension of the spring in AR magazines. I know there are some people who have had issues with feeding from AICS magazines, but that has not been my experience.

    You cannot use standard ar15 mags in this setup?

    • @lucass4758
      @lucass4758  2 роки тому

      If you buy a Ruger American that uses AR15 magazines in the factory stock, and you wish to continue using AR15 magazines, then you can purchase the Indian Creek Design MoFo ****AR***** Chassis…and use AR15 magazines in that chassis….the particular chassis I have in this video is the chassis version that uses AICS(aics) magazines, and it cannot accept an AR15 magazine.
      If your Ruger American rifle does NOT use AR15 magazines in the factory stock, then you WILL NOT be able to feed rounds out of the AR15 magazine chassis. The factory bolts were heavily milled out in order to properly feed from AR15 magazines
      While my rifle did use AR15 magazines in the factory stock, I chose to move away from AR15 magazines in favor of the AICS magazines, because I can have a much longer cartridge overall length with AICS magazines versus the AR15 magazine

      Lucas S nice man! Thanks again. Have you ever thought about replacing the barrel? I just picked up a Ruger American in 223 used a couple weeks ago. The barrel that’s on it now is the stock really super like barrel. Also I tried the Oryx chassis and had zero luck with that feeding reliably... so I returned that chassis and got the ICD chassis that you have. The only magazine I got work was the accurate mag. Thank goodness I found this video and saw some of the comments! Thank you again!

    • @lucass4758
      @lucass4758  4 роки тому +3

      Renji 12 not a problem. Happy I could help. Yes, I have already replaced the barrel on my RAP 6.5 creedmoor after I burnt out the factory barrel. I went with a 26” Heavy Palma contour pre-fit barrel from Patriot Valley Arms. I did the swap myself, super simple, just had to buy Go, No-Go Gauges. The barrel is a damn laser beam. At 100 yards I’ll put 4 shots through a single hole, but I always fuck up the 5th shot to where it’s a hole touching the other hole, turning a 0.10” group into a 0.25” group......I’m currently in the process of building a 22 creedmoor setup for coyote hunting. Using the Ruger American action with .473” bolt face(so 308/6.5 creedmoor, etc)...I’m gonna do an 18” barrel 1:8 twist...contour will be similar to that of the RAP barrel with around a 0.750” diameter at the muzzle to keep it lighter but still enough to take some heat and also hold my suppressor....and I’m gonna toss this one into a McMillan Game Warden stock...a little bit lighter than the ICD chassis setup but the big gain will come from it not being metal when I’m hunting in -30*f temperatures lol, that chassis gets damn cold in that, gotta be careful not to touch it with bare skin....this pre-fit barrel might come from Preferred Barrel Blanks. I haven’t decided yet. But I am going to rebarrel my 223 as well and that one I will for sure be getting from Patriot Valley Arms. I know PVA chambers up laser beams. I’m willing to take a chance on the Preferred Barrel Blanks for my 22 creedmoor build since it is a hunting rifle. I don’t need it to be as accurate. But if it is as accurate, then I’ll be super happy obviously

I’m still rockin’ the green plastic stock that I modified and painted lol. It’s so light and nice to carry through the woods though. I agree the stock bolt was rough with machining marks all over and sounded like a zipper when worked but I just cleaned that up with some fine grit emory cloth and the cycle is smooth as a babies bottom now! The gun shoots better then I do, that’s about all I can tell you tho sir! 👍🏻

      Wolf overall setup loaded up is around 12 pounds. The main chassis body/fore end weights 1.6 pounds....and then any weight you add to it via hand grip, buffer tube, and buttstock...the buttstock I chose is not lightweight by any means. The microslick by AD Arms keeps the bolt from getting rust on it as well as looks...so I don’t need to worry about keeping it drowned in oil to prevent surface rust

    • @lucass4758
      @lucass4758  4 роки тому +1

      Wolf I can’t do “Sporter” style stocks any more so the factory stock has to go....the Ruger American is the cheapest barreled action with a 70 degree bolt throw that shoots great. So I don’t mind stuffing money into them to make it what I want. I could buy a $1,200 factory rifle and still end up changing shit out on it. Much cheaper to grab the Ruger and modify it
