The guys were amazing, we had no need for insurance stuff we are all good and almost no damage to the bike and the mighty MSR just cast that try aside!

Also sod Spain......Ive always tried to get from France to Portugal as quickly as possible....in one day near Burgos we camped ( in a van ) and had to hide in the toilet block as we had an electrical storm.....then gales....then hale....back to the van..... then snow followed by full sunshine and the sound of the toilet block ceiling giving way from the weight of the water as the hale and snow melted..... Yay..Spain🙀
Wow that’s some story! It’s crazy and yet almost the reason we do these things… for the unknown adventure of what might happen along our travels

Definitely a lucky escape, lucky the tree branches were thin and springy so not that much force on the tent or bike. One little point on your comments, the metal tent frame and the open bike shed are not Faraday cages so no protection against lightning. In a Faraday cage you need to be completely surrounded by metal, normally mesh, no open sides. Although with the tall trees around you they would probably be hit before a lower tent. Was camping once near Enfield in a thunderstorm and lightning struck close enough I could feel the charge in the air.
Lol i did say i wasnt too bright on these things! Loved it though, what a show nature can put on for us... amazing

Well as you can see we can highly recommend the MSR tent! We don’t consider it expensive for the quality you get, swap 4 nights in hotels at a average £100 a night for the tent and every night after that has now paid for itself and if better this tent will last for years to come
Well when the big reveal happened you were lucky as were the bikes. Someone was looking after you. So glad you survived. It could have been catastrophic

I was in Pamplona in May having ridden from the Picos. I stayed at Camping Izarpa Kanpina on the NA4100 just north of the city. Only one night though and there were few trees. Only very small young ones. It was a pretty soulless place catering mainly for motorhomes with big families with lots of screaming kids as it was a weekend and lots of Spanish packing it out. Wish I had stayed at this campsite you stayed at. Looks a lot better. The weather wasn't much better then either. Tremendous storms all over northern Spain over the Pyrenees, up into France, all the way to Calais and back into Blighty. Torrential rain.
The N-135 from Pamplona up and over the Col d'Ibaneta down to St Jean de Pied Port on the D933 in France is a great road.
Campsites are such a lucky dip when travelling, we had such a mix of good and bad but at least you can just move on in the morning when it’s crap

What luck you guys had -- bad and good. Bad that the tree fell in the first place and good that it missed both you/tent and didn't do [more] damage to the bike.
Typically, when camping you want to make sure you don't pitch the tent under any "widowmakers" (branches that look "iffy") but in your case the line of trees was some distance away and you were not under any branches that could fall vertically. It was sheer bad luck that the wind dislodged what appears to be a secondary tree trunk, which is why it was so long.
Amazing really, No damage to us, the bikes or even the tent, it just popped back into shape! We knew not to go under branches but never expected the tree to reach out for us like that lol
I'm not at all surprised for the tent, and as soon as I saw how the tree hit the tent (after you opened the flap) I thought that the tent would not be damaged. It was a glancing blow and the material is pretty tough - the poles would have been easier to damage but because a tent flexes a lot, it sort of jumps out of the way with the hit. You were lucky with the bike though ... the damage (even with a glancing blow) could have been much worse.
Guys, am I enjoying your adventures. Everything is so natural and you even have a tree falling in between yr bike and tent. You couldn’t make it up. Keep the death defying action going pls. Love it😂

@ontheroadadventure Damage to your bike (headlight cover, etc.). Emotional damage, I mean, that was bloody close to being serious injury or worse.
I'm not surprised they were running round like headless chickens making sure that you were OK.

Sometimes we think we are unlucky but it depends on how you look at it, you could say we are extremely lucky people… Either way we are happy people, we went looking for adventure and we found it!

Sometimes you get lucky, and i can't think of many better examples than what I've just seen.
Admire your spirit and attitude to the whole event. An experience to remember and maybe kearn from. Like if the weather is horrific find a cheap, warm, dry and safe hotel. Preferably with a bar.

Ive no idea if this was lucky or unlucky, It could have been much worse! It seems almost impossible this could happen in the first place let alone the fact neither the Tent or bike is actually badly damaged. what are the odds!

Yes we were very lucky, anyone who see’s this and was thinking to buy a quality hard wearing tent needs to look no further!
It’s also the biggest size with smallest and lightest pack size we were able to find, far lighter and smaller than things like the moto tent
What an “OUTSTANDING” memory that you will have to go along with your engagement. This is a story/experience that will be told countless times and something that will never be forgotten.

Your spot on there, we were so happy to just get out and be ok, didnt care less about the tent or bike before we went back to inspect it. As long as we are ok, anything else can be fixed or replaced
Love your videos, can I ask what do you both do for a living to enable these great adventures.
We both work literally day and night to gather enough pennies and then we go again, We wanted to show that you dont need to be rich to travel like this, but we do work hard in order to play hard. This is the main reason we got into the camping and cooking for ourselves to hugely reduce cost allowing us to go for longer

Well thats a good review for the tent lol. We bought an MSR Habitude earlier this year, not used it yet (hopefully the last week in June) but looks like money well spent.
We love ours, its been amazing the whole month, packs small and light and has the room we need. we did learn that if you take the tent itself and use a stuff sack you can get it much smaller as you can squeeze all the air out and take the poles on their own. It was also super useful on this trip that it is free standing so even when we were camping on concrete slabs not staking it down was not a problem for us
The only thing we changed, which we always do, is take rock pegs instead of the supplied ones. Not that there's anything wrong with the MSR ones but we generally go further up Scotland where the ground always seems extra rocky.
We didn’t know that was a thing until we went south and encountered the same problem, we will buy some too

Something or somebody was DEFINITELY watching over you two, that’s for sure. What a story to tell in the years to come. Then to top it all off. You get a free nights stay at a cabin. Having now watched this episode that’s absolutely horrifying thinking of what might have happened. So unlucky but you did say you’ve been lucky and I agree. That tree fell just enough to miss you both and not directly land on your bike 😮. You both handled that situation so well. We’re so happy that you’re both ok and can continue your life long adventures together.

Seems unfair, who could predict something like that? we are all ok thats all that matters to us and the site were amazing to us too giving us free digs for the next night, we didnt even need it but we felt like we should take their kind offer so as not to offend
Well you two, what can one say, subscriber number should swell, brilliant that you were not hurt, and bike small bits here n there, and the tent, well good selling point for the manufacturer, I used to live for seven months of the year near to pampalona, Tundanca, and the storms are heroic around there take a roof off your finca, trees always down (but good for log burner in home), now take care stay upright rubber side down, and don’t loose that blooming ring, NW biker dude, 69 yrs, size 8 shoes, refuses to grow up, embarrassing my kids frequently, alias Bay Bimbler

But as they say mother nature takes no prisoners. 😮 the tent has had no damage thank goodness it looks like the branches saved the trunk hitting you both . Let’s hope that’s it no more . ❤❤

Stayed at the same campsite end of April and was asked not to pitch near the trees since they had an incident with a tree coming down between a motorbike and tent. You guys were so lucky😊
