  • I really do enjoy Fishing with Rod for Chum salmon or any kind of salmon or other fish on the Vedder River and BEYOND.
Please go give Rodney a LIKE, FOLLOW, SUBSCRIBE and a SHOUT OUT from me if this is the first time you are ever hearing about his Channel.

No, Rod doesn't actually guide people fishing and he wasn't actually guiding me on the river... but let me tell you the story from my perspective.
A lot of people watch and follow Fishing with ROD. I was the same. Well before I lived in British Columbia I watched his Channel grow and develop through the years as I messed around with low production value UA-cam fishing content myself. To me fishing and video editing were just a hobby and I had no idea how I was actually going to benefit from it. I didn't care, I just loved the memories and sharing with friends.
Soon I realized there was a side effect to producing fishing content... people started to watch the content. People in the comfort of their home actually spent time watching me fish. Mind blowing right. Back in the day the content producers in the fishing realm were relatively limited. So the small community allowed you to stick out even if it was poor quality stuff like mine. That didn't seem to matter and I started to develop connections with people all over Western North America in the fishing community.
While I never connected with Rod when I lived in Alberta and then California I always thought I might run into him some day since I loved visiting British Columbia for vacation.
Fast forward to December 2014 and I actually obtained a job in Surrey, British Columbia. At that time I knew Rod lived somewhere in the area, and I knew that I knew nothing about fishing in the area. If you know anything about a guy like me... information hog... Rod's website and UA-cam videos were prime for me to study for hours and hours. www.fishingwithrod.com
Growing up on the Prairies I really struggled with river fishing. I had gone out Salmon Fishing a couple of trips with my Grandpa on the ocean, so I sorta knew how to do that. Catching Salmon on the River was something totally new and foreign to me. This was something I really desired to learn how to do. I got some gear and tried, but failed. I kept failing and realized I was going to need an intervention from a local angler to save my River Fishing Career.
I reached out to Fishing with Rod, probably like hundreds of thousands of people do. Asking for more information or to even meet up and go fishing with him. He gave me the typical response from someone you have never met before... something about being too busy. I use the same line as well myself, haha. So it never bothers me to hear it. He did help point me in the right direction though. With a little coaxing, I was able to catch my first COHO on a jig. I was super pumped!!!!
I saw Rod make a post one evening about filming in the morning. I was pretty sure he would be in the same location that he sent me. Since I was going to the river anyways I thought I should head out at what time I thought was super early. Turns out ROD was already there with Gill Steele and Shane Ito. They were twitching for Coho and caught a few fish. I was standing up river from them and Rod came over to talk after he saw me come. I was honored to be approached by him... he said he was cold and had a hole in his waders. Finally, I got to meet and chat with Rod for real. Little did I know that things would grow into what I feel is a great friendship and have shared many more days fishing on the river and elsewhere together. I feel privileged to have a knowledgeable fishing buddy like him.
At 19:53 in this video • LURE FISHING FOR COHO ... you will see their session of fishing. This was the first day I met Rod... can't believe it is only 6 years ago. Feels like I have known him for a lot longer. Probably from watching the videos and messaging for years before this actually happened.
After they left the spot I walked out and saw this little log jam and tossed a jig in it. The craziest experience commenced and I landed three hatchery coho... this is probably the event that sealed my fate as a SALMON FISHING FANATIC on the Rivers of British Columbia. Check it out here • FAST ACTION Coho Salmo...
Then I bought some waders and kept meeting up with Rod. I showed up in some of his videos and he showed up in some of mine. Turns out he gave me this footage from a few years back with my dad. I guess he never edited it and said I could use it if I wanted to. Finally got around to editing it. I don't do a job like him with narration, but I hope you enjoy the friendly banter and behind the scenes Fishing with Rod.
A little Chum Action in the Fall. Always a great fishery to experience it if is open for recreational purposes.
    Thanks for watching,
    God Bless your adventures!

Awesome video! 15:12 in the video the shot of the bobber going down got me excited for fall already. I’m new to river fishing and it was definitely frustrating last season trying to get the hang of it. Ended up catching my first Coho so I’m pumped to get out again this year and catch a couple more

Yes, it can be a bit frustrating and a little bit of a learning curve. Every year it gets easier though. As long as you ignore what 90% of the guys are doing out there and focus on the 10% who actually are catching most of the fish. I had a young guy beside me from the okanagan last year who was new to it. I was trying to give him some pointers. Work on getting the mechanics of drifting down with a tight line and the correct float depth... float the seems and bobber down hopefully! Best of luck.
