  • Part 38! 1968 VW Radical Custom Ian Roussel Finds Himself In A Balancing Act 📐 🤓 ✅
Ian Roussel begins matching the left and right fenders, as well as bringing up the surface towards final finish!
We are getting close to 100k SUBSCRIBERS! Please subscribe if you haven't and SET YOUR NOTIFICATIONS!
There are no rules in car customization, and if there was a rule it would be to go as far outside of the box as your fabrication skills can take you. Ian envisioned a simple and radical solution to this style of door opening. He walks himself and Jamie through the process, with pretty satisfying results. This is only the beginning. Come journey with Ian out of this world fully into the outer space of KUSTOMS. 🛸 🛸 🛸 🛸
"Car Building Is Fun! Lets keep it that way."~ Ian Roussel
    The backstory...
Ian has decided to lower this VW Beetle 6 inches to get it to the ground and start radically modifying this beat up 1968 VW Beetle, but like most things that were once going to find the fate of the crusher, he once again proves you can do some amazing things in your garage with some imagination, fearlessness and a willingness to make mistakes as you create. 🥴
His fascination stems from the seemingly limitless customization opportunities for this vehicle. Join Ian on a wild ride through his mind 👽 as he envisions then fabricates his most radical ideas to date.
Ian worked and studied at a bronze casting foundry as a young man, where he learned to create models, armatures, molds and finished sculptural artwork in all mediums and finishes. Ian is fascinated by the artistic process of sculpture. He brings this knowledge to his car customizations, to his TV show audience, and now he brings it to you, his growing UA-cam audience.

My beloved husband was a fabricator, too. And a transmission guy…. He passed away 5 months ago. He sure loved life.
He used to go on about your work… and when I looked at his iPad after he had passed I could see the videos of yours he had been watching. Now I subscribe, too. It makes me still feel close to him this way… and I’m hoping he is still watching through me…. Thank you Ian and Jamie

I don't know if you have Costco stores out there but they have what I call heavy paper cardboard like the thinner stuff you showed. It comes between the layers of stacked toilet paper and paper towels. They are about 4'x4' and they will give them to you. I use them for patterns when doing leather work. Best part is they are free. Love the show, look forward to every notification of a new video.

A lot of this car building stuff is very similar to the stuff we would do as kids with construction paper, and paste, and straws and tape and stuff. How you make the shapes and what makes them structurally sound is kind of the same thing, but how you go about it is different (welding instead of gluing...) I wonder if thats why I like this kind of stuff, because of childhood memories?

As it relates to the quest for subscribers, I’ve been one since the beginning. I became a fan of your mad fab skills from the first time I caught Full Custom Garage. You have a quiet but confident demeanor and a good balance between words and actions.
For a greater success, I’d be mindful of.
    1. Superfluous or inane conversations that aren’t relevant to the project.
    2. Losing continuity with all projects.
    3. Not completing projects.
    4. Make sure viewers are engaged with the projects’ direction.
    5. Wasting viewers time with indecision or lack of progress relative to time spent viewing.
I’m sure you will get 100K viewers and many more. Congratulations!

You were discussing the type of material you use for your templates. They resemble a product carried by Home Depot called Ramboard. Used by construction and painters to cover flooring. It is more cardboard than paper and I use it all of the time to make templates because it’s rigid, but pliable and cuts easily.

I use whatever is handy which today is carbon fiber cloth, but I prefer matt as it conforms very well avoiding bubbles particularly when you can apply much pressure on the part.

Love it, envisioning tools are like looking into a crystal ball! Would be great if you could take the finished body to victors mob of body guys to finish it off. Ian Love you and Jamie's banter, it is just so much fun. Jamie I feel like creating a bunch of aliases just to get you 100k.There is something special watching something created out of thin air!!!

Exercise tile packs is a good foam for support when shaping, can even hit with an abrasive disc to sculpt detailed contours etc.

Luck of the Irish another show already! I’m digging that both sides are going to match soon! I love the way you improvise to get your measurements, shows your brilliance for your trade! Jamie as always another great show, you’ve come so far! I’ve been watching from day one and you both have come so far in your work together, you should be proud! As always lots of love from Santa Cruz Ca!

At the local lumber store you can get heavy paper on a roll for floor covering during construction to protect from damage. Not as heavy as what Ian s has but it does work well . Just saying.
