I'm looking forward to the game but that's a good point. Maybe she wants to prove how tough she is by not using her elder blood powers? I'd personally still use them if I had them. I'm curious to see how they explain that.
Indeed, this is why CDPR switched from their superb in-house RED Engine to generic Unreal Engine 5. The engineering and software talent required to keep a cutting-edge game engine running and updated simply left after the Witcher 3. Hence, why Cyberpunk 2077 was so buggy and had poor performance, the guys who built the RED engine were gone. Basically, NVIDIA saved CDPR by sending their own engineers to patch the RED engine in order to use the game as a showcase for their RTX tech. Now, with UE 5, the lowest common denomitator generic engine, they can hire any mediocre ESG/DEI staff to code the game instead of hiring true talent.
Are you guys surprised? It's no secret at this point that game studio names don't mean crap anymore. EA could release the best game ever tomorrow then the most ass sequel next and it all boils down to having too many cooks in the kitchen.
Just follow these steps 1. No pre-orders. 2. Wait for release. 3. Watch an extensive review from your favorite trusted source. 4. Make your decision. CDPR will either get rich or they will not.
Cdpr are already rich af. Look up how much money they made with Witcher 3 alone.. They sold the Witcher franchise to this new DEI people and they’re gonna try to exploit it but will end up ruining it instead, just like Star Wars n lord of the rings
Witcher 4 is just another game to me. I'm not excited for it. I am, however, excited for the future of Rebel Wolves, which is a new dev team comprised of ex-pats from the CDPR that created Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. And for Warhorse, another Polish studio that poached more of the original CDPR devs.
Warhorse a lot to prove with Kingdom Come 2. The 1st game was a niche release that had zero hype or expectations and connected with gamers because of how raw and honest it was. The sequel will not have that same luxury as most gamers seem burned out at this point with all of the garbage tier games that have been shoved into the market place over the last 4 years. Lets hope they exceed expectations.
I'm currently skeptical about all ongoing intellectual properties in the gaming sphere. My faith wanes as activists seem to have taken the place of genuine game developers. Mildly hopeful, yet realistically skeptical. Thank you!

Biggest retcon is actually that thered be enogh demand for there to be a witcher game; as whole point of the world is that as civilisation advances monsters living space gets smaller and smaller and thus witchers become redundent, not needet as monsters go extinct and few that are left can be delt by local militias.
I disagree with that. A lot of monsters require specialized knowledge to destroy. A local militia could deal with nekkers or ghouls, but something like a noonwraith or a more complicated curse, and they'd be completely out of their depth.

@@panzer00 the decision to make ciri an witcher fundamentally undermines Ciri, Geralt, Yen, Eskel, Lambert and Vesemir's character arcs from the previous games. Yeah Onimusha was perhaps the best news we got from the game awards. The Elden Ring game is going to be short lived as it's something completely different.
@@IsraTheBlack I will say this regarding the new FromSoftWare iteration of Elden Ring and why this is good news. This project was delevoped in tandum with the original Elden ring base game, and was essentially given to one of Miyazaki's chosen new game directors. There is a Famatsu interview with the new director and he explains how he was given the green light by miyazaki himself after pitching the concept. Why this is great is this game will sell decently well and add to the over all revenue for the company for fuel towards their other projects. This is the first of a few new directors that miyazaki has chosen to speerhead their own projects and i knew they would be seasoned with experience going back as far as dark souls, bloodborne and elden ring proper. There remains more to be seen which is exciting and why this is ultimately exciting is that Miyazaki himself is COOKING. Im assured that Miyazaki himself is done with Elden Ring for now and moving onto something completely new. Thats what the real greatness of this project means. This was a bone to throw to the dogs so we dont get even more anxious as to the new developments and whats amazing about this is there was absolutely zero leaks regarding this project. More is to come my friend.
Kinda worried for Onimusha, since it looks like generic souls like that plague the market today, the OG like Dawn of Dreams got very fun gameplay like RE, which is fun.
I was disappointed by this trailer. I like Ciri but I don’t think she should be the protagonist or an actual Witcher that went through the trial of grasses. A new character would’ve been much better imo and we still could have most of the supporting characters because they live so long.
CDPR destroyed a lot of good will with gamers with their Cyberpunk launch. Most gamers are jaded these days. Attaching the Witcher name to a sub par product will move units, but this game isn't touching Witcher 3 numbers. No way, no how.
People know cyberpunk was sabotaged for resisting.. There doesn't seem to be such resistance with New witcher, the devs just left the company. If you wondering what they resisted.. Study anti Christs communists.
They better explain A LOT during the intro/begining of Witcher 4 instead of just saying in some small dialogue "oh well, Ciri lost most of her powers while stopping the White Frost but managed to go through witcher mutations later cause of her blood"

And who exactly is willing to administer a 70% lethal process dear ciri? Her adopted father Geralt who views being a Witcher a curse half the time and the process a crime against humanity? Mommy yen who is sickened at performing relatively mild torture for the SAFETY of Ciri? Maybe her many friends and acquaintances who both have no clue how the LOST art of making withers work or how to brew and gather the reagents!?
Its suggested that Vasamir actually knows how to perform the trial of the grasses and he lies on being just a witcher instructor. Though they killed him in the game so...
Good point. The only way I can think of how they can handle it is asking for help from another witcher school. Dunno if it will make sense lore-wise tho
Won't be enough for me. If there was to be no Geralt, we should have gotten a brand new main character or a customizable one. Ciri is a cool, but not who I want to play as in a Witcher game, and should not be a Witcher.
@@marcuskane1040 All the witcher schools are basically dead. Lutho knew this its why he made a deal with Eymr to revive his school. The methods of creating new witcher is also gone. Its suggested but not yet proven in the story that the remaining witcher of the wolf school agreed not to create new witcher. (there goes that plot point) But the greater point here is this. They can barely make new witcher, that art is lost. To many witchers died during the progrom of the witchers. Any expert who remain would be rare and would need resources to restart his witcher school, resources he would not likely have and even the little he did he isn't likely to try creating female witcher. There would be stockpile of orphan boys and an understaff orphanage happly to get rid of hungry children. There is no way an expert would use his talents and dwindling resources to develop a method which work on females. That is just not the reality of the trial of the grasses. In addition to most people hating witchers and would not want new ones to be made. The final point is that Ciri would never go through the trial of the grasses from her point of view it would be self-deleting. In addition to the fact she does not have to be a witcher. She can advise on monster hunting for a king or she can go and learn to be a doctor. Unlike most boys recruited to be witchers Ciri has options that are far better than being a witcher. She was still young in the games, she can get an education degree, or maybe she can marry a prince and be happy. I do not see Ciri wanting to be a witcher or go through the trial of the grasses.

It would be a bit of a lore break even then. Part of the reason there are so few witchers is the process is supposed to be secret, lost, or secretly lost. Other wise every kingdom would be gathering up orphan boys to force through the process like a ficked up super soldier program for the military advantages.
heck you could even say that ciri tried to make a female witcher and actually suceeded (this has never worked if I remember correctly) and you still could push feminist propaganda while at least exploring motherly themes this time.
Actually Geralt, Vesemir etc were wolf school witchers and they failed to produce female witchers and they lost knowledge and means of making new witchers but there are different other schools in different regions (outside those we have in game) who still have that knowledge and means to make new witchers and we know those schools not always share knowledge and communicate to each other so we really don't know much about them from books/games. Also,. if you look closely, you see that Ciri doesn't have Wolf medalion but what it seems to look like Cat medalion so she is Cat school and probably went Trials of grasses there. It is good to be sceptical but it is also good to look more closely lore what we know about witchers outside wolf school and Geralt's adventures.
School of cat - aggressive mutants with small control of anger outbursts. Destroyed be redanians. Paraiahs, black sheep of witcher schools... In game they said they connected to elves and got one time female witchers...
Literally this. Like why is she so nerfed in the trailer I was hoping for a new combat system revolving around her DMC type powers with her becoming EMPRESS. Witcher Ciri sounds boring asf. Empress Ciri>
I'm just mad they invalidated 2/3 endings for this. I like the ending where she dies because it's dark but also fits the tone of the witcher world and story
The thing that I am most concerned about is that if they had a great idea for Ciri, they wouldn't have gone this route. An actual Ciri game could be amazing, it is actually what I was hoping they were brainstorming with 'Project Hadar', their unannounced IP. A game where Ciri could travel to different realms and dimensions using her powers. Could do quests and stuff that cross from dimension to dimension and all of that. That could have been great. But they just took her and made her into Geralt... but a girl. She isn't unique anymore. She is just him, but a girl. You could make a Witcher game with a female protagonist that could be great. The one above I described with Ciri could be awesome. A Yennefer or Triss game where you play an incredibly powerful sorceress could be great. But they opted not to do that and just take Ciri and reduce her character to... girl Geralt. I'd say I don't get it. But I'm pretty sure I know exactly why they did it.
when witcher 3 ended i was like, witcher 4 needs to have ciri as protag or a character creator, no other choice. now ciri is a "witcher" and breaks our choices of ending in witcher 3, which disappoints me a lot, not only because it ignores our choices but because they created the game at the time when all of the game replace their male protags with female protags. disappointed in cdr
The only impressions I can relate to about the game. Sacrificing the canon and the lore in the altar of having a recognizable face for the new game is not a good trade.
In the official lore, which is canon: the School of the Cat was the only one that trained women (as well as non-pureblood humans) to become witchers. The Cat School modified their Trials of the Grasses for women and non-purebloods. However, the trial was still more lethal for girls and non-purebloods, and fewer than one out of ten survived. If you paid attention to the Witcher 4 trailer: Ciri was wearing a lynx medallion, NOT a wolf medallion, (i.e., Geralt belonged to the Wolf School.) The Cats were the first witcher school destroyed by Nilfgaardians; (the Wolf School was the second.) Then, the few Cat survivors founded the Lynx School. The Lynx School is the successor to the Cat School. So, at least CD Projekt Red is keeping as close as possible to the established lore: if Ciri was to be a female witcher, then she would belong to the Cat School = Lynx School. The Cat School or the Lynx School is barely/rarely mentioned in the books, games and TV shows, which is why most people are not familiar with it. However, the point is: female witchers did happen, and it is canon. We did not see or know about "female witchers" because only one school had them, it was a small school, and that school was the first one to be wiped out and go near-extinct, (like all other Witcher schools.) That's why we really have not met any Cat or Lynx let along a female Cat or Lynx. (Ciri is the first female Lynx we meet.) (You can read about the "School of the Cat" and "School of the Lynx" at the Witcher wiki site.)
@@spellandshield As You can read in the books Ciri started the trial, as it was partialy known to witchers even then but instead of starting the process her Elder Blood made her speaking prophecies of the future (I belive she prophecised death of Coen and Geralt then). Just wait and see how it looks after premiere, how they explained it and don't buy preorder.
Just my opinion, but I was hoping to go back in time where Witchers aren’t a dying breed, Trial Of Grasses still happening, monsters are all over, & could play as young Vesemir! Or even a Witcher we know/knew for more backstory/history..
Thanks for expressing my POV on this. I have been explaining all this to people all day. It has been especially annoying hearing youtubers saying "my favorite part was when she drank the potion" yes...something that she wouldn't be able to do, and even if she were to survive drinking the potion she would not be getting much in the way of benefits from it they are made for witchers, which Ciri isn't and couldn't be. A far better story, I've been saying, would have been the beginning of the witchers. Being one of the first witchers learning about the many monstrosities that needed to be fought off. Being the first to learn their weaknesses and to share with other witchers or withhold if you want to go down a route of choice and consequences. Which is my favorite way of writing RPGs I love having as many branching narratives as we can get that are well thought out and written.
I agree with all of these points and have pointed them out on my channel as well. I differ in one point maybe: To me the issue is not whether or not Ciri can go through the trial of grasses. She's a child of destiny, and there are points in the books where Geralt says that witchers believe that children of destiny don't even need some of the pre-trials because they are sure to survive the process, because they're destined to. Obviously Geralt later claims also that this is all superstition in the phase of his life where he doesn't believe in destiny. So you can figure this out somehow. Also there is nothing in the lore that says a sorcerer can't come along and rediscover how to do this. We know Alzur was involved.. maybe someone discovered some notes or whatever. Geralt after all gets additional mutations in blood and wine, maybe someone can put it all together again based on that and then adjust it to girls. None of that is really an issue. The real issue is: SHOULD this happen. Is this going against what the character of Ciri was supposed to be in Sapkowski's vision. And there I have a much bigger issue. In the books she first is taught as a witcher, then as a sorceress, then she's part of a band of criminals, then she's supposed to get pregnant from the Aen Elle, then she's supposed to be married off... everybody tries to tell her what she's supposed to be. And at the end of the books she finally choses her OWN path. So her backtracking to being a witcher again... I don't know. yes she took a medallion for herself from Bonhart in the books, so she definitely feels still connected to Geralt. But it's a much different idea of thinking of yourself as a witcher and going through the trials, rendering yourself infertile (unless they fix that too somehow, which would be lore breaking in itself, because becoming a witcher without sacrificing anything is kind of stupid). So if she becomes infertile in the process, how is Yennefer ok with this, given how much she suffered from this sacrifice she herself had to make. So to me the question is not whether they can come up with some BS way of making the trial of grasses work, to me the question is whether they can come up with a satisfying explanation on why on Earth Ciri would even consider this and why nobody stopped her. And that reason better not be "someone killed Geralt with a Golf club and now she's angry"
Same. This is my biggest problem with Ciri as the protag. I can deal with lore stuff since the licencing changes in 2019 meant 'new lore and canon' were made official, but don't freaking ignore my choices from the previous games! Even before I knew how gods awful atrocious the game was, I decided to nope out of Veilguard for this very reason. It makes me SO mad when past player choices are retconned... and even more mad when the devs say "oh we won't be retconning anything" while staring is right in the eye and retconning everything. I'm not fond of being gaslit by people who want my money lol. I get cranky.

Yes, we may be cooked on this one boys. I am very cautiously optimistic, but they really set this up in a way it can just be another dragon age veilguard delivery.
u gained a new sub my friend, was losing my mind thinking i was the only one who saw this too. The trailer as presented breaks so many lore rules man, they'll probably retcon it with girlpower magic and a sparkle of pandering.
There are already redditors trolling the UA-cam comment sections they ng to gaslight anyone against Ciri being the protagonist. Synthetic man called this one the moment he saw the trailer. The cope is unreal. Trust your instincts, I was one of the few who didn't like Ciri back in W3 days.
Despite being critical about the trailer from the very first few moments I laid eyes on Ciri's new appearance, I think the game as overall would be great. If the monsters like leshen could be upgraded upon and have more details while also making combat much better than was the clickfest in Witcher 3....then Witcher 4 will still be helluva great game - even if they push some DEI ideologies. I can live with DEI ideologies if the storyline and side quests has morally gray choices like Witcher 3 did - basically choosing one option is only slightly less worse than the absolute disaster of consequence the other choice would had - that is what I want from my Witcher experience, a very grim dark world. I will frown at DEI messages, but I could somehow live with it if implemented in a good way - similar to how Larian studio implemented it - you want to interact with that content? Go ahead for it. You do not want to see woke/DEI content? Okay, we will not shove it into your face. That is enough for me to enjoy that game. We will see in few years in which direction the game was headed in devs minds.
My points exactly. Also, to add to your points that they are probably gonna say "the elder blood made her survive the trials". The thing is that vesimir against Geralts wishes tried to see if ciri could go thru the trials. He tried the prep potions on her and she had the most violent reaction to those potions he'd ever seen. Presumably because of the elder blood. We all know they vesimir is dead and Geralt was vehement against ciri becoming a witcher so if either of them had knowledge of how to perform the trials it's a complete road block for ciri. Some people are trying to say she's gone to a different school but we know from the lore that there really aren't witcher schools that are fully operational anymore. It would be miraculous to say the least that a school were able to continue creating witchers. Insanely miraculous that ciri survived the trials since it was only 12 year old boys that stood a 20% chance of survival. And on top of all that, if nothing else, while ciri did in the trailer anyway, seem slightly stoic, she's still showing far too much emotion. Witchers are believed to have NO emotion, they do feel them yes, but for all appearances people just look at them as cold monsters. The trials mute the witchers emotions but she's showing distress to the woman being killed in the end or desperation to get her to safety etc.. More of a nitpick on that front sure. But it's just another thing that showed me the studio is throwing a wrecking ball into the well established lore. The princess of time and space...turning her into a witcher...a superfluous task. Easily could have given her nurfed powers in this game but kept her as the child of the elder blood. But no. They had to hamfist this into the story because a woman can do anything a man can do. Either give me lore accurate ciri. Or give us character creator where the males have the option of being a witcher and the females can't but instead could be witches or sorceress' instead. That would have encouraged me to play the game multiple times just for the play styles. Let alone the would be difference in choices that the previous game had. I somehow feel like the choices in this game is gonna be surface level just because the level of tenure in cdpr post witcher 3 is few and far between. Lol warhorse has since poached all the talent from cdpr and i bet my bottom dollar it's because of the politics. Even the director was the lead artist and this is his first game in his current role.
Im not interested in playing Ciri. I am going to pass. One of my biggest problems with the 3rd game revolved around her. I agree with you with a new protagonist
@@ZrodyApo No point in trying to convince these people. I'm 100% sure that if Ciri was originally a man and was now the protagonist, none of these dumbass arguments would be made.
Same, would have been dope to have another conjunction maybe 100 years from TW3 and the world powers convince Geralt, Yen and others to reignite the Trial of Grasses, making your own character. Mentor Geralt would be sick.
Ciri is absolutely ok as a protagonist. In fact the whole story is about her, both books and the games. It's only logical since geralt is retiring. I like this channel but the comments are always talking about women bad even in cases like this where it's pretty much expected from the story🤣 However there are several much more important things to be annoyed about: lore breaking, the fact that this trailer was kinda eh, not bad but not great either, that cpr had a lot of senior staff leaving and that after cyberpunk I don't know if I can be hyped for what is the sequel of my favourite game. Fingers crossed
I am not happy at all. The blatant breaking of the lore is just attrocious, and bending the plot into a pretzel to justify itself is hardly enticing. I'm not against female protagonists, but when you're continually phasing out male protagonists for established properties(western) and only introducing female protags for the new ones I get miffed and skeptical of your intentions.
Even if the game is decent gameplay wise and in the other parts of the story, it looks like this needs the Veilguard treatment. Money is the only thing these corporations understand. Take it away and watch them scramble.
Not only is it extremely lore breaking for Ciri to have done the Path of the Grasses, they also invalidated 2 of the 3 possible endings in W3. For the first time in a Witcher game, your previous choices are meaningless. Sounds familiar, Dragon Age fans?
The lore breaking is pretty annoying, but Ciri has always been the protagonist / co protagonist. With geralt retiring it's only logical to use Ciri as a new protagonist. Not sure why this is such a big deal, neither Lambert or eskel can really hold a game on their own. It's either Ciri or another story entirely
@@FrostyMts it's not like she has to be a strict Witcher... There was no need to make her drink the potion, they could have just made it so that she didn't need it or something
The only game concept that would have been great is going back in time to the days when the conjunction was still pretty recent and the Witcher's where created. I would love to play witcher games where you played as one of the first witchers and the different schools where created in a world that still needed them and where monster's where plentifull. They could have made a game like that for every major school.
They should have let us made our own Witcher and made Geralt our trainer. The ending of Witcher opened a lot of portal that put more monster in the world, so it made a lot of sense that Witcher schools are needed again, but they sadly choose to break the lore to make their DEI masters happy.
That's what I was sure they'd do. It's the perfect DEI waffle: it checks all the boxes because you *could* make yourself a shave-headed brown lesbian if you wanted.
Saying Ciri as a Witcher apperantly breaks the lore but making up some random ass Witcher that has zero involment in the extremely narative driven world revolving about existing characters doesnt break the lore... Then having Gerald as a trainer like in a cheap ass chinese RPG or even Fortnite, making references to to certain characters to forcefully trying to fit this into the existing lore. Thats cheap, lazy and could be the idea of a 13 year old.
im honestly not a fan of making our own witcher either. playing as Geralt actually made much more sense as he had actual relationships with other characters, they were his friends and almost like family and that was my problem with cyberpunk…they actually expected the player to care for some strangers they just met which was so weird to me.
Not ever game has to have a shitty custom character. The Witcher 3 was perfect with geralt, if this one is written well then there are going to be no issues
Same. I don't have too much issue with the idea of her becoming a Witcher, it's in character for her and NOT against canon (though it pushes canon to its limits)... but I would really have preferred to have a custom witcher trying to rebuild the Witcher Schools like they SAID we'd get for the next game.
There are other witcher schools though aren't there? Meaning they still have the ability to create new Witchers? Even then though I imagine it involves the exact same process as the wolf school.
It was hinted heavily that Ciri would be the protag of their next game. It doesn't mean that it is good decision though. Geralt is an iconic and beloved character, arguagly one of the best protagonists of gaming. I don't have a horse in this race since my laptop won't even run this game, but I wouldn't be interested in playing Ciri nevertheless. I think it is a cash grab project for them. Originally they didn't even plan to continue the Witcher saga, but since Cyberpunk almost sunk their ship they decided to return to same old formulas to make money. Yeah not particularly interested honestly.
They do this in games pretty often, when a character becomes too powerful in a series they do a reset, so the character can evolve through the story with the player again. Things like amnesia, death/resurrection (Shepard ME2) focus on a different character (Snake --> Raiden MGS2) etc.
Here’s the thing, I’m not opposed to a Ciri game. CDPR wants to make her the protagonist of the Witcher: 4? Ok. In that one ending, she does take up the mantle of her father: killing monsters. I don’t understand the rationale behind nerfing Ciri to the ground when it would have been lore friendly to have her surpass Geralt in the game she ultimately hunts vs Geralt. Geralt cannot prevail over several types of beings: like the ancient Unseen Elder, Gaunter O’Dimm, etc. I’m not saying Ciri necessarily could kill or truly seal them, but she’d have a better chance than Geralt would given that she is the Lady of Space and Time. Maybe she pursues Gaunter O’Dimm through whatever pocket dimension he slipped into, for example. Maybe she slips into the vampire home world. I think this would have been a rich field to explore. Instead, we have a Ciri who is a Witcher not only in name but physically, doing the same things Geralt did. She seems to have aged quite a lot, I bring this up because I don’t think that makes much sense given her powers and the fact that her adoptive mother and aunts essentially have eternal youth, not just looking youthful but living extended lives. Yen is 200 in TW3, for example. Even if Ciri somehow lost her Elder Blood powers: did Ciri refuse the stop-aging elixir to subject Geralt, Yen and the others who live for centuries to the pain of watching their child die before them? And then, there’s Ciri’s mishandling of the contract in the trailer. I thought Ciri was supposed to learn from Geralt and her own experiences about human nature, but she watches this village of desperate, frenzied cultists happily, rabidly offer up one of their daughters for sacrifice and she catches up to the girl and sends her back to the villagers who already demonstrated that they think she needs to die to appease their god? Was she counting on killing the monster and presenting to the villagers its head before the girl managed to make it back? I can’t see Geralt making that call. And then at the end Ciri looks shocked, enraged and offended, like the outcome was so out of left field. Was she in an amnesiac coma for 20 years and forgot about how people work so this contract was like her first rodeo?
@@Fatalitix3 my issue isn’t that Ciri had to bait the Bauk, it’s her decision to just send the girl back to the village alone full of villagers who see her death as a moral and religious obligation
@@ForbiddenCatBelly I see this as proof of Ciri inexperience, she correctly assumed girl wasn't safe near the lair, but in a heat of the moment she told her to ran as far as to the village
@ it would make sense for someone without experience, not someone who’s seen over and over what humans do when they are in rapture or desperate or even just want to feel plain old power.
hm i smell DEI and woke crap. Seriously, at this point I hope CDPR really falls flat on its face with this obvious shit. There is nothing nice to talk about or defend. A betrayal of lore and the Witcher series.
Ciri was to be Empress and unite the land For her to take the trial of grasses would destroy the option for a peaceful resolution to the lands, she could also have died and girls weren’t subjected to the trial of grasses Like, I get why they’ve done this, but it’s not what canonically would have been Ciri’s destiny
Yall talking about her looks when the main gripe I have right now is how they are telling her story. No Empress Ciri? Where's her powers? Why is she so WEAK in the trailer.....I don't want her to become a Witcher....She was supposed to be the Empress
At the end of the combat it seems she's summoning her elder blood powers. But yes, indeed, they'll have to explain a lot of things lore wise in order to make sense of the obvious.
According to Witcher lore, no woman ever survived the trial of the grasses hence why all Witchers are male. Somehow, Ciri survived the trial of the grasses lol. Geralt is the strongest Witcher because of experimental, stronger mutagens, but even then, Book/Witcher 3 Ciri is way stronger than Geralt due to her Elder Blood powers. They went Ciri Girlboss Witcher for the wokes (she is not Ciri, just a female Geralt). Canon Ciri is such a stupid choice as a protagonist as she is so OP in the Witcher lore due to her elder blood and powers. For the player nothing should be a challenge with a post Witcher 3 mature Ciri (in control over her powers). Yet in Witcher 4 Ciri is weaker than in Witcher 3, how? She underwent the trial of the grasses as she has yellow cat eyes now, not green. Still she lost her powers, she has no magic dash, teleportation, just witcher signs. What a retcon a sorcerer/sorceress is more powerful when in Witcher 3 Ciri is one of the most powerful beings in the universe!
According to Witcher lore they stopped trying with girls because they all died and carried on with boys because they had a lower mortality rate, but it’s not like they had a infinite pool of subjects and infinite time, im sure if they kept trying with girls at some point one would survive, it wasn’t impossible and in the lore it was never stated that a female Witcher is impossible
@ksmith2904 By the end of the Books and Witcher 3. No one alive knows how to make a Witcher. Vesemir was killed he was the last with some knowledge of the trial of the grasses, so who made the mutagens and procedure for Ciri? Also, Geralt would never approve Ciri undergoing the mutation to turn his daughter into a freak mutant like him (no one likes being a Witcher). This premise is just so dumb and out of touch. The Greater Brother mutants made by Jacques de Alderbserg after Azad Javed stole the mutagens and formula of the Wolf School were even more monstrous and failed than a standard Male Witcher.
@@Frencho9 Yennefer knows some of the trial and saying the knowledge is lost just means it’s lost to them, other Witcher schools may have the knowledge, Vesemir was a fencing instructor, he had bare bones knowledge of the Trial but easily other Witchers out there may know more, it’s not a stretch at all in the lore to suggest other Witchers of other schools still have the knowledge, the most difficult part would be finding a mage willing to work with the Witchers
@@Frencho9 And as for Geralt approving? The whole point of the canon ending of Witcher 3 and the events lead up to it, was letting Ciri make her own choices, when Geralt decides everything for her or tries too hard to nudge her in a certain direction, she fucking dies, so Ciri making the choice to become a Witcher, canon Geralt would approve
@ksmith2904 Have you played the games? It is pretty clear that all Witcher schools are dead at this point. The Viper school in Nilfgaard was dying this is why Letho and the 3 remaining Witchers accepted Emyr deal to assasinte the Northern Kings because of his promise to finance the rebuild of the school. But by Witcher 3, only Letho remains alive if you did not kill him in Witcher 2. The Wolf school was the most robust and active. Sure they can pull a Witcher school out of thin air like they did with the Griffin School but lorewise Witcher schools are dead in the books and the games, with no one knowing how to make new witchers. And why would Yennefer subject her daughter Ciri to such an abominabke procedure. Wishful thinking, I reitarite the premise is dumb but some will just accept any excuse to have a Ciri Witcher, I guess. CDPR should have gone for a setting 300 years earlier during the golden age of the Witchers, were all schools were active and players would choose a school like if it was a class/origin and make their own witcher with a specific background like Dragon Age Origins.
I'm skeptical too... But if you look at ciri's pendant, you see it's a cat, not a wolf. Strange i know, but in that case, it would be just a question to convince some elves to try the thing... The others points still stand thought...
Eh, there ARE canon She-Witchers, but they're so vanishingly rare they're basically invisible for a reason. It's not that they all die - though that's almost the case anyway - it's that messing with women (might) make them give birth to 'natural' mutants/Witcher children which was forbidden for very good reason. There were a couple of schools that dabbled (successfully) with making She-Witchers, but it absolutely wasn't Geralt's school. Manticore was the only one that had any kind of success... and by success I mean two EVER and LONG before Geralt's time. I believe the other school that dabbled WAS the School of the Cat... so that might be there "you'll have to squint but it's there" nod to canon. 🤷
@@stevenbishop1782 The RPG books are canon as far as I'm aware. In those books, the Cat and Manticore schools both tried, and Manticore WAS successful on (I believe) two occasions.
People so excited for this while not even realizing that the game director for The Witcher 2 and 3 as well as other lead staff, left CDPR and aren't involved in this game. This combined with all the DEI nonsense that CDPR has been spewing has killed my interest in this game. And now, on top of everything they break the lore in the first trailer and change Ciris appearance and voice to fit the current trend. So typical. Ciri already had badass powers and elder magic, they could have made her a truly unique character. But no, they went the lazy route and just made her a Geralt clone probably, because that's what modernity in gaming is about. Replace man with woman, make woman just like the man she's replacing and hope to profit (while almost always failing).
She looks very emotional in the trailer, Witchers are cold and calculated usually just do their job, even ciri was kinda like that in Witcher 3. She also suffers from masculine face syndrome a lot of female characters have recently for some reason.
Feminist consultants instruct video game devs to deliberately make the females ugly to detract from the leering male gaze, male comfort and male enjoyment.
@@misanthropicattackhelicopt4148 To be fair, that's a point which isn't really played out in the games. Remember the quest in W3 with the Witcher from the cat school who slaughtered a whole village in rage.
I think it’s pretty clear that there’s a new Witcher school/ School of the Cat which has something to do with the explanation. Whether or not the explanation is good is a different story but I think they know people will have questions about this and they have to properly address it
I’m so disappointed… The lack of character customisation, playing fast and loose with lore.. This reminds me more of the Netflix adaptation than what they did previously. I’ll pass on it.
I can understand being upset with the lore changes but character customisation? Have you played this series before? The most you xould do in the last game was change hairstyles.
@@lewisdawson4816 it was the perfect point to introduce a new custom character. I’ve read all books minus season of storms, played all the games1-3 and thronebreaker. So yes i am familiar with the series.
@ I never said you weren’t? And fair enough I personally don’t like the change from Geralt either I’ve read the books too and am very attached to him in this series but I don’t think it’s impossible for a witcher game to be good with ciri as the main character hopefully much better combat than 3 also.
all my thoughts in one video, amazing. nobody really cares about the lore behind the witchers, the trials and failures of female witchers etc... they just want the next big thing and could care less for such a blatant disregard of lore. being a stickler for lore andd sceptic myself, i need a damn good justification for that break in lore. this, does not seem like it will satify the urge for it. to say i am not exactly hyped for this is an understatement.
i would have preferred a witcher game in the style of the old dragon age origins. taking place just after the first junction of spheres with monsters appearing and witcher schools being founded in different places. you could then decide which witcher school you'd start in coupled with your starting skillset and equipment, customize your witcher, play a small intro-section akin to the origins in da:o and then venture out into the world to go for the main story.
For a stickler for the lore you clearly know fuck all about it, it was never stated that a female Witcher would be impossible, just that the mages stopped trying, Ciri becoming a Witcher can 100% fit into the lore without any retcons or changes
@@ksmith2904 nice way of being a prick about this. good stuff, mate! i don't recall saying anything about it being impossible, only that they were deemed failures. but maybe you can help me find that spot in my comment, eh? ciri becoming a witcher fitting 100% with the lore? for sure! if they retcon it and make it possible then hell yeah. as it is, right now? big nah. anyway, thanks for the comment! really made my day 😄

I'm sceptical for the same reasons as you are, but one big reason for me being sceptical is that i simply can't imagine The Witcher 4 being half as good as The Witcher 3.
Because he was not main charachter in the books and all plot showed in video games haven't focused on his story???? Ciri is natural choice for the protagonist of next game :P
Out of curiosity, do tell me if I’m wrong it has been a minute since I’ve played, but it was my impression they rediscovered the formula to make witchers in the third game when using the trial of grasses and the mutagen concoction to heal UMA of his curse, was that not the case?
What was done to UMA was an incomplete version of the trial of grasses. Since the first stage of the trial requires potions to make the body more susceptible to the mutagens, Yennefer used it to make UMA’s body more susceptible to her magic so she could extract the curse. It’s the mutagens that makes Witchers mutants and give them their abilities. The quest itself doesn’t exactly go into too much detail on how Yennefer learned the process so deeply but there’s no mention of her learning anything about the mutagens since she doesn’t apply them to UMA.
@@OnyxRider well what of Geralt finding the lab where he learns to modify his own mutagens? Not saying that’s the answer but in my mind that makes rediscovering the formula a much more realistic goal than before given some time and the right people
@@righteousdarkness321 The story in that quest was that the owner of the laboratory was looking to find a way to cure his son’s mutation and turn him back into a normal human. The experiments ended up doing the opposite and instead enhanced his mutations. The letter you get from Yennefer to start the quest tells us she’s unaware of the details of the laboratory and implies that she merely happened to stumble upon the information and it wasn’t something she was specifically looking for. CDPR could theoretically go the realm of claiming that this lab and research is what opened the door to rediscovering how to make Witchers so you are onto something there
No he didn't. The books never outright stated that women can't be Witchers. There have been records that there were female Witchers in the School of the Cats that only 1 of 10 women survived the Trial of the Grasses. Have you even read the books?
@@JoKoBod Stop lying my dude, nowhere in the books it is stated that female witchers exist. The idea of female witchers being a thing came from a dogshit tabletop game that, by the way, isn't canon. Implying people didn't read the books when you yourself most likely never did is beyond pathetic.
Completely share your sentiment. Was never excited about the idea of playing Ciri, a great character in her own right, but not to play with as a full-fledged protagonist. I always hoped the parts in the Witcher 3 where you played as Ciri were over quickly, cause she's ... rather dull to be honest. So, 3 full games with her? Not enthused at all. That said, a game where you could choose between a custom male Witcher or female (Lodge) Sorceress, could've been dope. But overall, a prequel would've been the best idea, I think. Send us back to the beginning of Witchers and a shedload of monsters.
They redid the trial of the grasses on Uma in the main campaign AND Geralt found a safer, more effective way to mutate at a higher level in the lab in Blood & Wine. (As a 200+ year old mind you) My main issue is her losing her powers + being a woman lol
Debunking the woke witcher narrative as a Nigerian: As a Nigerian gamer who is a die-hard fan of the witcher(hate the series, love the books and games), based on the "homophobic" culture of my country alone, you can't hate the direction the gaming industry has been going more than me, so believe me when I say the witcher 4 is not woke, based on the trailer at least. The pattern recognition people see from other games is organic for the witcher 4. People are judging the game based on what other games like the TLOU2 have done and not seeing it from the perspective of the books and game. From Ciri being a bisexual (not confirmed in the games, but she is in the books in weird circumstance)to taking over the reins. Here are the arguments have seen so far in the comments and the in-world logical rebuttal to them.: 1. It is breaking the lore - the whole point of the games is to take liberties and craft a story that makes sense as Witcher 1-3 is lore breaking if you want to be rigid about it because Geralt and Yen died at the end of the books. So, to answer the "lore breaking" part people are complaining about in the trailer of Ciri taking potions suggesting she's undergone the trial of grasses: The whole premise of Ciri powers as crafted in the witcher 3, is to fulfill a prophecy. Which is the reason the wild hunt (elves) was after her. If we are to go by logic, fulfilling this prophecy (i.e defeating the white frost), was assumed to be fatal to her, which is why they were trying to kidnap her, otherwise they could have just asked her to help. So we can assume that defeating the white frost at the end of witcher 3 took a toll on her that she lost most of her powers and even almost died, but for the remnant of the special blood/ lineage in her. Now, we know one of the ending is her becoming a witcher (this makes the most sense with her personality in the books and even in witcher 3). What's to say, she didn't ask Geralt and Yen to help her with the potion. Yes, they'll refuse at first but she always gets her way cos she's stubborn. 2. Women cannot survive the trial - Ciri is not an ordinary woman. She is half elf from another realm and has (remnant if it now based on liberties I assume CD project red is taking) a world-ending overcoming power in her and you think a mere poisonous herb would kill her? C'mon guys! 3. Angry Ciri- Ciri is and has always been a belligerent boss bitch in the books and even in witcher 3 ( remember her besting the bloody baron and insulting the other guys when they sat around the fire + other instances in the game where she was just rude). This is who she is. 4. Making her a better Geralt - Ciri is more powerful than Geralt as we all saw in the game and would probably best him in a duel to the death except if plot devices helps Geralt. The prominent thing Geralt has over her is wisdom and knowledge( some of which she has - remember the beginning of witcher 3 when Vesemir was teaching her the bestiary and she already knows it and just wanted to play?). If anything, they've taken liberties to nerf her to make the game playable. 4. Why her? - Cos it makes the most sense. Yes, she's a plot device for the main character in the books and games, but towards the end of the game, the story became fully about her. Every character from the game was acting for her. They made it so obvious that we even took control of her much more than the first half and quarter of the game. It make sense that the story will continue with her, again, because she literally grew up among witchers and was trained to become one with all the knowledge of one. Now that "she has lost most of her powers", it only make sense she'll want to be like her "father" even if he doesn't approve. 5. Ciri ugly- What?!!!I think people are seeing so much pattern recognition from other games, that they just want to scrutinise everything lol. She's beautiful! She's has the look of a battle-hardened polish warrior in her later years. Compare her to Brienne of tarth (GOT), Katee sackhoff (Another Life), Charlie Theron (in mad max) and see if she's ugly again. To people pausing her mid-animation and saying "see, she's ugly" Have you seen what Piers Morgan thumbnails do to beautiful women when they are in the middle of talking? Also, in the trailer, the people of the village were all white, which is a good sign. If CDPR were deep into ESG and DEI, you know they can't do that.
You would think I would be really excited to hear about the Witcher 4, The Outer Worlds 2, etc. but I'm not. I am so deflated by western gaming at this point that I literally cannot bring myself to any amount of hype or hype when they announce stuff now.
Female protagonist - check Uglified existing female character - check Broke fundamental lore to fit political ideology - check Won't be buying - check I thought Ciri becoming Empress was canon ending, females can't survive the trials of the grasses, and Ciri was more powerful than Witchers anyway, she has the elder blood. This game is an abortion. I don't play as female protagonists full stop, but all this woke slop - die CDPR die. Only when every AAA company crumbles into dust will gaming be revived.
It's so sad to see how people here obviously do not know the source material - the books. Yes they indeed broke "fundamental lore" but not what you think. In the trailer Ciri as she is caught by the monster drains energy (!) from her environment. This is implies she is a sorceress and indeed in the books she was "source" with great magical ability ... until she sacrifices them to save her life in book 4. She cant use them anymore. But here she does. That's the actual lore contradiction. And its not (!) that ciri has mutated further. In the books she was partially mutated in Kaer Mohren.
@@HobanProduction no it hasn't, I'm a man like the vast majority of gamers, I like to play as men. Especially in games about characters who are warriors as men are superior in this regard.
@@Adam-r6s2c Yes, but she was partially mutated, which significantly boosted her physical ability. This is mentioned by Triss in book 3. Without this ciri would've died in book 5.
Don't think shes lost her elven powers, trailer show her drawing elemental power from the rock face, different medallion than wolf, means shes been trained as a witcher at a different school yet reveiled. Likley elven blood magick, offsets potion toxicity in some way.I'll hold off judgement till game release.
Finally someone who actually knows the lore.... for me the changes are weird but still you can justify everything in clever way and build interesting story about it. I can imagine Vesemir and Geralt not agreeing for trial of grass so Ciri found Cat school (known assassins and murderes) to complete training
The lore on Ciri drinking witcher potions was established in Blood and Wine. I suspect the justification will be her Elder Blood allowed her to endure the Trial and mutate. It allowed her to resurrect Geralt and Yen in the books. So it's hardly the most implausible thing she's done with it. CDR canonizing endings is the norm for their games. Like it or not. They always have. They have never been a studio that accepts multiple options like classic Bioware. Is this the preferred path? No. But it's hardly surprising, and the breadcrumbs were pointing to this all along.
Also, during the curse removal on UMA, it is specifically said that if this works, they're going to have to decide if making new witchers is to be a thing. So they set up lore-permissible means for this to happen. Do I like it? No. But this isn't out of bounds.
@@ArtOfDyingWell Seeing as I think they were always planning Ciri as the new protag, I think the only "plot hole" is they didn't give her cat eyes in that dialogue. But that would've given the store away.
@@ArtOfDyingWellThe games were their own universe from the first 5mins of W1. They have respected the book lore. But they were never slaves to it. *IF* they maintain that balance, this probably will be fine. If they don't, it'll be another boring girl boss.
Write this down, Ciri developed a new "trial of grasses" using her elder blood and that made it possible for women to become witchers....the whole school of the lynx that was shown before? Formed by Ciri to be a female witcher school.
It doesn't make sense for someone to choose the mutation of a witcher over the power of bending space and time
I'm looking forward to the game but that's a good point. Maybe she wants to prove how tough she is by not using her elder blood powers? I'd personally still use them if I had them. I'm curious to see how they explain that.
or even being an Empress of biggest empire of the known world ...
It actually does for Ciri, she always hated her power, being forced by "destiny" to be someone she doesn't want to be
She can't control her power properly. That's canon.
Also, I highly doubt anyone close to her would allow her to go through the trial of grasses.
Seeing this, you can understand why so many senior talent left...

Devil's advocate: What if they address this conundrum in the game?
@@panzer00 the decision to make ciri an witcher fundamentally undermines Ciri, Geralt, Yen, Eskel, Lambert and Vesemir's character arcs from the previous games. For them to just allow Ciri to undergo the trials and create new witchers is basically character assassination. Nothing they explain can fix that.
No lie brother I’m not excited about it. But that Onimusha? Yes
Hell yeah, Onimusha is the shit.

In what?
(there goes that plot point)
But the greater point here is this.

Agree, that was my first thought “Lazy AF”
that would be more interesting " a witcher born from kingdom experiment then somehow ended up trained by ciri "
heck you could even say that ciri tried to make a female witcher and actually suceeded (this has never worked if I remember correctly) and you still could push feminist propaganda while at least exploring motherly themes this time.
Well didn’t they rediscover it in the third game with the elf dude (his name escapes me at the moment.) in order to save him?

(Ciri is the first female Lynx we meet.)
(You can read about the "School of the Cat" and "School of the Lynx" at the Witcher wiki site.)
It's not canon as far as I am aware and largely fanfic.
That's not written by Sapkowski though, and only books written by him is canon according to him
@@spellandshield As You can read in the books Ciri started the trial, as it was partialy known to witchers even then but instead of starting the process her Elder Blood made her speaking prophecies of the future (I belive she prophecised death of Coen and Geralt then). You see it was never stated that girls can't become a witcher, only that all atempt ended with failure, perhaps Ciri can manage due to her Elder Blood, why do we need to know everything before the premiere? Just wait and see how it looks after premiere, how they explained it and don't buy preorder.
The old devs who made the witcher, well THE WITCHER, are all gone , this company is a husk of its former glory.
I hate it when sequels completely disregard the fking ending we picked in the previous game

I knew something weird when I saw the trailer. Thanks for the clear up.
Witchers not having emotions, being cold monsters is just a stereotype, reinforced by this awful english dub I'm afraid
Im not interested in playing Ciri. I am going to pass. One of my biggest problems with the 3rd game revolved around her.
I agree with you with a new protagonist
The whole story revolved around her since the books, she's literally the main character tying everything together in the Witcher saga...
@@ZrodyApo No point in trying to convince these people. I'm 100% sure that if Ciri was originally a man and was now the protagonist, none of these dumbass arguments would be made.

@@ZrodyApoYes and she is incredibly boring as a character.
Ciri is absolutely ok as a protagonist. In fact the whole story is about her, both books and the games. It's only logical since geralt is retiring. I like this channel but the comments are always talking about women bad even in cases like this where it's pretty much expected from the story🤣
However there are several much more important things to be annoyed about: lore breaking, the fact that this trailer was kinda eh, not bad but not great either, that cpr had a lot of senior staff leaving and that after cyberpunk I don't know if I can be hyped for what is the sequel of my favourite game.
Well they’ll find out
Even if the game is decent gameplay wise and in the other parts of the story, it looks like this needs the Veilguard treatment.

So she went through the trials? When she started drinking decorations I was lost lol wtf is going on? And her face? And voice is different too.

I don't have too much issue with the idea of her becoming a Witcher, it's in character for her and NOT against canon (though it pushes canon to its limits)... but I would really have preferred to have a custom witcher trying to rebuild the Witcher Schools like they SAID we'd get for the next game.
9:45 - Can you give details of this case?
I'm also very skeptical of the upcoming Witcher.
She does still have her power. You can see her use it when she was pinned to the tree to blast the monster away.
Bump
She used the girl as bait for the Bauk
@@Fatalitix3 my issue isn’t that Ciri had to bait the Bauk, it’s her decision to just send the girl back to the village alone full of villagers who see her death as a moral and religious obligation
@@ForbiddenCatBelly I see this as proof of Ciri inexperience, she correctly assumed girl wasn't safe near the lair, but in a heat of the moment she told her to ran as far as to the village
@ it would make sense for someone without experience, not someone who’s seen over and over what humans do when they are in rapture or desperate or even just want to feel plain old power.
Women were known for being excellent medieval, melee combat warriors. This game will be grounded and immersive.
hm i smell DEI and woke crap. Seriously, at this point I hope CDPR really falls flat on its face with this obvious shit.
There is nothing nice to talk about or defend. A betrayal of lore and the Witcher series.
Ciri was to be Empress and unite the land
For her to take the trial of grasses would destroy the option for a peaceful resolution to the lands, she could also have died and girls weren’t subjected to the trial of grasses
Like, I get why they’ve done this, but it’s not what canonically would have been Ciri’s destiny
Ciri now looks like a man must be made for modern audience
LOL! A older woman is a man for you?
A man? You need to stop watching porn and go outside
She supposed to be wearing make up and have smooth skin while being a monster hunter?
Yall talking about her looks when the main gripe I have right now is how they are telling her story. No Empress Ciri? Where's her powers? Why is she so WEAK in the trailer.....I don't want her to become a Witcher....She was supposed to be the Empress
Show us what you look like marcus, i bet you look busted as hell
This is what happens when the creator doesnt really care about their ip
At the end of the combat it seems she's summoning her elder blood powers. But yes, indeed, they'll have to explain a lot of things lore wise in order to make sense of the obvious.
What's funny is that it's very likely that the game itself will be even more broken than the lore.
@@noctoi Nope they tried but failed
@@stevenbishop1782 The RPG books are canon as far as I'm aware. In those books, the Cat and Manticore schools both tried, and Manticore WAS successful on (I believe) two occasions.
They could still have Ciri use Potions and bombs with her own kinds of magic. You could've said the Elder Blood would allow her to endure the Potions.
No, she should still be able to use her Elder Blood powers!
Naw.
We will see if they bother to explain her ending up like this and for me the writing of such explanations will be buy or skip moment
Ciri as the main protagonist can work but as you pointed out there are a lot of questions which need answers. Very good answers.
I am very very very cautious about this game.
The righteous girl boss fury in action.
Feminist consultants instruct video game devs to deliberately make the females ugly to detract from the leering male gaze, male comfort and male enjoyment.
She is older, probably in her 30s and also CGI trailer did not reflect the game graphics or looks.
It worse than that Witchers emotions are muted due to the mutations. So her raging is just another dump on the lore.
Whether or not the explanation is good is a different story but I think they know people will have questions about this and they have to properly address it
I’m so disappointed…
The lack of character customisation, playing fast and loose with lore.. This reminds me more of the Netflix adaptation than what they did previously.
I’ll pass on it.
cdpr witcher games were always playing fast and loose with lore.
@@user-xo5zu1lw2wno, they tried to honour the lore as much as possible.
Tenner bet it wins game of the year, and you all fucking love it.
all my thoughts in one video, amazing. nobody really cares about the lore behind the witchers, the trials and failures of female witchers etc... they just want the next big thing and could care less for such a blatant disregard of lore. being a stickler for lore andd sceptic myself, i need a damn good justification for that break in lore. this, does not seem like it will satify the urge for it. to say i am not exactly hyped for this is an understatement.
i would have preferred a witcher game in the style of the old dragon age origins. taking place just after the first junction of spheres with monsters appearing and witcher schools being founded in different places. you could then decide which witcher school you'd start in coupled with your starting skillset and equipment, customize your witcher, play a small intro-section akin to the origins in da:o and then venture out into the world to go for the main story.
For a stickler for the lore you clearly know fuck all about it, it was never stated that a female Witcher would be impossible, just that the mages stopped trying, Ciri becoming a Witcher can 100% fit into the lore without any retcons or changes
@@ksmith2904 nice way of being a prick about this. good stuff, mate! i don't recall saying anything about it being impossible, only that they were deemed failures. but maybe you can help me find that spot in my comment, eh? ciri becoming a witcher fitting 100% with the lore? for sure! if they retcon it and make it possible then hell yeah. as it is, right now? big nah.

I always sided with iorveth and helped protect vergen
It felt more like Geralt would do

Because he was not main charachter in the books and all plot showed in video games haven't focused on his story???? Ciri is natural choice for the protagonist of next game :P
This has made me excited for the Rebelwolves new game.
Out of curiosity, do tell me if I’m wrong it has been a minute since I’ve played, but it was my impression they rediscovered the formula to make witchers in the third game when using the trial of grasses and the mutagen concoction to heal UMA of his curse, was that not the case?
I remember most of that. Thought they had part of it and educated guesses. Not sure.
CDPR could theoretically go the realm of claiming that this lab and research is what opened the door to rediscovering how to make Witchers so you are onto something there
Lets not forget siri lost her magic on the books and now she appears to be casting witcher signs, but i can be wrong
Sapkowski was clear that women can't be witchers.
Beyond that, I want to play as Geralt, not an uglified version of Ciri.

@@ksmith2904Lmao, looks like they brainwashed you too
@@ksmith2904 It's impossible on non humans, Ciri isn't Human and she's part Elf.
Debunking the woke witcher narrative as
a Nigerian:
As a Nigerian gamer who is a die-hard fan of the witcher(hate the series, love the books and games), based on the "homophobic" culture of my country alone, you can't hate the direction the gaming industry has been going more than me, so believe me when I say the witcher 4 is not woke, based on the trailer at least. Here are the arguments have seen so far in the comments and the in-world logical rebuttal to them.:
1. It is breaking the lore - the whole point of the games is to take liberties and craft a story that makes sense as Witcher 1-3 is lore breaking if you want to be rigid about it because Geralt and Yen died at the end of the books.
So, to answer the "lore breaking" part people are complaining about in the trailer of Ciri taking potions suggesting she's undergone the trial of grasses:
The whole premise of Ciri powers as crafted in the witcher 3, is to fulfill a prophecy.
Very relatable!
LOL she didn't become a Witcher she just realizes she has been a Witcher all along.
The witcher was always inside of her
Female protagonist - check

Broke fundamental lore to fit political ideology - check
Won't be buying - check
I thought Ciri becoming Empress was canon ending, females can't survive the trials of the grasses, and Ciri was more powerful than Witchers anyway, she has the elder blood. This game is an abortion. I don't play as female protagonists full stop, but all this woke slop - die CDPR die. Only when every AAA company crumbles into dust will gaming be revived.
"I don't play as female protagonists full stop" Okay your opinion has been invalidated with that line
@@IsomerSoma she was never made a witcher in the books, and could never use signs.
For most people that was seen as a plot error because there was no justification prior. So I don't I'd use that as precedent.
@@ArtOfDyingWell Seeing as I think they were always planning Ciri as the new protag, I think the only "plot hole" is they didn't give her cat eyes in that dialogue. But that would've given the store away.
@@shawngillogly6873 I'm going by the lore of the books which is why it wouldn't of had any justification even in Witcher 3
