Awesome. This cleared up so many questions for me relevant to this Spell & Shield Video. The entire time I was listening to his discussion on the merits of Ciri being the next protagonist, I was thinking to myself “Who the hell gave Ciri the coin? Did she do it for free?” It was 100% driving me crazy
The reason why Ciri will suck as a Witcher is that you cannot tell a story about masculinity, being isolated, shunned by society and stoicism with a pretty looking female as a lead in this setting. Those are overarching topics of the books AND games and you as a fan think that's all by accident? That they just forgot to mention the fact that women can become witchers too? Nah, those were the dynamics of the universe and topics and themes and atmosphere.
@@justaquietpeacfuldance did you skip the parts of the books that had Ciri as the protagonist, facing challenges and pressures that come with growing into a young woman, as well as her heritage? The story was never JUST about masculinity. I agree that the themes you mentioned are very important, but they are not the ONLY important themes, and having a male protagonist is not the only way to convey them either. There are stories of manhood to be told through other characters. There is understanding to be gained through seeing a woman step into a male role and experience hardships usually reserved for men. And there is opportunity to demystify women to a male audience by having a well-written, human female lead. Of course, all of that depends on actually having good writing. I understand having concerns, given how many badly-written Strong Female Leads(TM) there are in media in general, but I think CDPR's record when it comes to writing varrants at least a "let's wait and see".
If she hasn't lost her Elder Blood powers then why doesn't she use her teleportation powers anymore? And why would she go through the mutations? It's puzzling.
That's one of the points, exactly. It would/could have been interesting seeing her employ a mixture of Witcher TRAINING and Elder Blood powers, and explore how that might make the job of Witcher either harder or perhaps even easier. But naaaah... they went full Karen on this instead, and stacked her up with more power so they don't have to put too much thought into a new combat formula.. I hate these people.
@@jurandspychow3766 She da goat then! I also think it's interesting that everyone assumes that CDPR didn't consult Andrzej Sapkowski about how to make ciri.
At least, in W3, she's inexperienced, so Geralt has some wisdom to offer and things to teach her. Mary Sue Ciri is older, and will likely be written as to have no flaws at all, not even character flaws like inexperience.
@@Spectacular769 You have no idea if its true though... we don't know when Geralt meets her in the new games and when se starts getting new powers. Stop talking like you've played the game. Maybe she loses her memory like Geralt did and needs to get her powers back hence why she isn't and strong You do not know if Andrzej Sapkowski advised to write Ciri this way.
@@Spectacular769 Also Geralt was written to be flawed from the start.. the fact that Ciri couldn't save the girl in the trailer showed her flaws... otherwise she would have told her to hide in the woods.
I'd rather the game not be a sequel to the first three and have it take place earlier in the timeline when the world had more monsters and therefore more witchers. Then a create a character makes sense.
Better yet, a secret son from a random sorceress he banged who managed to render him fertile through some secret spell. Taken and trained by Ciri and her new school. I mean, it's always been fanfic, so why not at this point, lore means jacksht anyway.
I would liked a Witcher game where you start as a child and then go through the trials to become a Witcher. Then this game can be a 4 part series or more.
@@sabsinoname that's not exactly what this person meant, that part of the story can be a simple cinematic, but what this person is saying is they choose who they want to be from the beginning like you can in cyberpunk or any other RPG game that allows that customization.
This! Kind of like the Ciri intro in Witcher 3. I could even deal with a female Witcher if they introduced the Cat or Manticore schools, it would be (barely but still relevant to) canon. I think it'd be kind of cool to know the background of the custom Witcher. What I absolutely do NOT want is a character that's canonically a demigod in her own right, fluffing around struggling to kill the most basic of monsters AFTER her in game and on-screen (because I'm sure this is a continuation of the SERIES not just the games) god tier power-up. I think it would have been awesome if we could have chosen our Witcher kiddo from a small selection of pre-made kids, watched them grow through a tutorial montage, and then done an adult appearance tweak when the game cuts to the player character as an adult getting ready for some kind of mission or function. Don't get me wrong, I love Ciri, but I'd have preferred ANYTHING to this advertised game concept 😩
I agree with most of your points, also, my Geralt is retired and my Ciri is Empress (where she could do more good and save more lives in a day than in a whole life as a witcher, btw). I didn't want to play as either of them. Why couldnt they start fresh with a new character instead of canonizing one of endings and invalidating the stories and choices of a big percentage of the players. It just feels bad. I'm tired, boss...
Agreed. Both their stories should’ve been done. However it’s easier for CDPR to reuse Ciri and less work for them rather than write an entirely new character. It’s a shame too. I also did Empress ending because why the f*** would Ciri become a lowly Witcher lol? She was destined for much greater things than that. But I get that it’s one of the endings for her. However I believe both Geralt & Ciri’s stories had concluded
@@JGD199 Also, Vesemir and Geralt would never submit anyone, male or female, to the Trials of the Grasses, because of how bad it was. It'd mean a death sentence for adult Ciri to even try.
Geralt wanting Ciri to be an unhappy Empress and sending her to her horrible father is totally out of character. Fortunately the right ending is canon now.
@@SgtHodlI’m really feeling that I feel CDPR should have simply just side stepped continuing after Witcher 3 and just made Vesemir prequel story From the anime adaption they made throw in a bunch more contracts and ancient monsters and boom easy money printer Heck maybe throw in different school narratives as well
Originally, The Witcher 1 was supposed to feature a custom Witcher instead of Geralt, which made sense given the plot of the books. Eventually, this idea was abandoned, and Geralt was brought to life, which turned out to be a good decision. However, now that the Geralt trilogy has concluded, I was hoping for a return of the original idea. Unfortunately, CD Projekt failed to meet my expectations.
@@moonknightish This is true, however, I'm not convinced that she has the personality to become a likeable heroine like Geralt. For me, in both the books and W3, she was not that kind of character. She's an interesting side character, and that's it. Making Ciri into a forced 'true' Witcher, when she is quite a unique character, is plainly stupid. We don't have to agree. A custom Witcher could be chosen from different Witcher schools, each offering a unique intro (similar to Dragon Age Origins) and creating opportunities for diverse builds without having an overly overpowered character like Ciri. I prefer more role-playing options, as a new character would essentially be a blank slate, unlike a pre-existing character, whom I cannot mold to my will as freely as someone entirely new.
Yea, if Geralt's story is done... then all the surrounding characters should be done as well. I have no idea why they couldn't just set the new installment-- like 100 years in the future. Maybe something like a new (psuedo) Conjunction of Spheres brought more monsters and now you have to start a new Witcher order as a customizable character. There could even be some kind of McGuffin that allows female Witchers or something if you want to play as one. I have no interest this hacked-together, convoluted, plot to continue as Ciri.
This was exactly my gripe. Before the trailer there were 3 reasons why I wanted a new male witcher protagonist and not Ciri 1. Ciri was EXTREMELY OP 2. Her story like Geralt felt like it was concluded and I liked the Empress ending more because it was bittersweet( and it was HER actual choice if you let her process her father and the sorceresses without interfering) 3. I wanted to play as a WITCHER because that is implied by the Witcher series CDPR has seemingly solved 2 of these issues in the most contrived way possible. I'll hold out full judgement till I see more, but with the info we have now and current(western) development climate I'm VERY tired and warry.
Keep in mind we're told over and over again that the time of the witcher is coming to an end. Monsters are basically being brought to extinction, so unless another conjunction happens and more monsters get spawned, surely since we're now even further into the future they have even less of a reason to have witchers.
@@sneslive1556 A conjunction of the spheres happened at the end of the Witcher 3. You had giants, those desert bugs, fork tails, etc. all pouring out. I don't think it would be that much of a stretch to say it affected more than just skellige.

@@TheRealClaylex Not really. Did the same thing with Captain Marvel, she has to accept how awesome and spectacular she is and "quit holding back." Coming to terms with your flaws can be interesting character development, deciding you essentially have no flaws isn't.
Im with you on this, CDPR has a lot of explaining to do, and it better be good I loved Ciri, in W3, and wanted to see more of her in other games, but she would never go down this route, neither would any assist her in it from W3 It feels like some devs just pushed this through, because of *reasons*
Remember when Ciri spent years on the run, got the hell beat out of her by just about everything, had a lot of emotional immaturity, was a decent sword for a layperson but obviously not immersed in combat for decades, and needed the help of others to avoid death or capture - while also being the most powerful person on the planet? I have no idea how they’re going to nerf the elder blood and make her even more powerful. But they will.
I really wonder why Ciri would do this. Theres quite a bit of drama regarding fertility between Yen and Geralt, and Ciri is definitely aware of it. I wonder why Ciri would sterilize herself anyway, and if Yen/Geralt knew beforehand or tried to say anything.
That part actually makes a lot of sense if you read the books. The reason the Wild Hunt were after Ciri in the first place was because they wanted her to have a child with their king.
@@damned0wl They defeated the Wild Hunt, but I supposed conceptually their could be potentially other otherworldly consent-haters, its a multiverse setting afterall... So I can see the logic of wanting to remove some incentive, from Ciri's point of view of being harassed so much. I'm still curious what the writers will choose, but thinking like yours make the concept less inconceivable.
not to be fertile would be worth it...the elder blood brought nothing but harm for her and people who wanted to user her like brood mare...so why not making the "becomming a witcher" sterilisation...life problems solved plus extended life span....i would totally trade that..
@@elivenya-theautisticbookwy9638 She can literally move between universes, no need to sterilize herself after getting rid of the wild hunt. Her children are supposed to be messiah-like figures according to the prophecy. She wanted to have children. Extended lifespan? She literally has power over time and space.
My head canon for Witcher 4: Letho the only witcher which wanted to bring back creation of new witchers manages to rebuild the School of the Viper and they start trainning young witchers again, (if you want you can retcon that they managed to even create female witchers, by changing the formula for the trial of the grasses, this way you can have both genders), so you create your own witcher but not a full blown veteran witcher like Geralt, instead you create a young ´just graduated´ witcher which is obviously weaker and inexperienced than a normal witcher. you start going and doing missions and such but suddenly the conjunction of the spheres who was prophesied to happen again, happens!, but your character ends up beign teleported to the realm of the monsters or the place where vampires come from, and you start your quest for survival in a foreign universe with new types of creatures, etc here your quest is to find a way back but you end up going to different dimensions using some artifact or something, so you find other humanoid cultures and do quests for them in order to survive and manage to find a way to come back, the world of the elfs from the wild hunt, the world of the vampires, etc, this could turn into several games btw, so eventually you manage to come back to earth and is absolute chaos with monsters everywhere and you returning as a witcher is a godsent, so the story takes whatever route you want from here.
Yes, but minus the female "witchers". Witcher is a male term. It's the male counterpart to witch. To have a female Witcher is an oxymoron. The Witcher is about young boys forced into a life they did not want.
I think none of these things make a character a Mary Sue by themselves. The main part of being a Mary Sue is having no weakness or character flaws and it's too early to say anything about that, besides she can be easily killed with a sword. I trust in CDPR and their writing which has been stellar so far.
The problem with Mary Sues is not that they are powerful, it is simply that they behave like jerks (remember Ray slapping Finn's hand because he wanted to be gentlemanly?), *that's* the problem, not that they are powerful. There are plenty of male "Garry Stews" in the market like basically all Assassins in the Assassin's Creed series, Batman in the Arkham series, any first person shooter character, all of which are extremely powerful characters, adept on all forms of martial arts and weapons and able to drive all types of vehicles that are at the same time highly beloved characters, but why is that? The reason is because all of these characters have redeemable qualities that make them likeable and at times even relatable. See James Bond, for example. Bond originally was a character that would make a lot of remarks that would be considered misogynistic by today's standards and at times he would slap women around and stuff like that. Those elements deprived the character from reaching his full potential for longevity so they were wisely faded out as the years went by. At the core he is still a Garry Stew that handles all weapons, vehicles and is able to perform death defying feats every two seconds, but now he is a Garry Stew with a relatable character arc and who treats people (and women, in particular) better than he used to without slapping them and saying cruel remarks. So in the end, the problem with Mary Sues is not that they are powerful, and Ciri's problem is not going to be that she is overpowered (Ezio, Alex Mercer, Jin Sakai all of these were overpowered, to be truthful), her problems will come if she starts patronizing men, hating Geralt for principles and stuff like that. If she behaves like a decent person and treats others with respect, then let her kick all the monster asses that she wants.
I think the claims of her power and Elder Blood making her a demi-god are rather overblown considering she is (or was, before the lore breaking Trial of Grasses) just as frail as any other person, in that a sword of arrow kills her just as dead.
I highly doubt that Ciri still has the full extent of her space-time powers, since that would make no sense for the gameplay. But she does have some proper magical training and will be able to use more magic than the simple witcher Signs, meaning you'll have more build options than would be available to a regular witcher.
Totally agree! Also, In time of contempt, geralt and vilgefortz both say geralt could learn more powerful magic if he had the ambition,he just chose not to ❤
The Trial of Grasses probably stripped her gifts, or she lost them after fulfilling the prophecy. Whatever it is, more people need some imagination before they rush into badmouthing things with little known details. 😂
ya know, i really didn't expect to agree with this video, but i listened to his points and it really sounds like he's right, this is the natural progression, i mean i don't like the whole girl boss woke agenda thing, but in this space we often mention we don't mind it if it makes sense given the lore and the story from the previous game, she's not given her girl boss status by mystical reasons outside of the elder blood, everything else she gains through her trials and effort of her own, maybe she went through the trial of the grasses and survived simply because of the elder blood deal she was born with and maybe she had a reason to become stronger, maybe there is a story behind that desire to become stronger in the story that makes sense. but all the really skilled ppl leaving the studio and the possible effect of this might make or break the game, because this studio cares more about diversity than they do about quality in their games, so i admit i'm a little biased of what this game is going to be like.
I think the problem goes further than some basic 'don't want to play as woman' or even 'girlboss.' It has been well established that the studio has lost a lot of talent, it was also well reported that cyberpunk was rushed out earlier than it should have (albeit well after its estimated release date) because the studio was running out of money. Off the back of the problems with cyberpunk the studio sought investment and in order to do so it was required to have a DEI stratagem. From that point onwards everyone put CDProject under a microscope. This trailer merely confirms a lot of the fears. There is evidently still a lot of the Witcher DNA here, this video closely mimics one of the quests from the Witcher 3, and tonally it matches the "hunting monsters" trailer on the lead up to the Witcher 3 release. And a lot of people actually wanted more Ciri content off the back of the last game albeit she was OP even in that game. The real issue here is the willingness of the studio to just throw the lore of the Witcher universe away, as was stated in this video, her becoming a full blooded witcher didn't even make any sense. In the books the Geralt saga had already been wrapped up as an Arthurian legend, however the game didn't contradict what was written and even had the feel and atmosphere of the books, which is why it works so well. But when the developer is happy to just throw that away we are heading for another one of those rings of power moments. Ciri's appearance doesn't help with the current trend of what is happening to the culture, would anyone have been surprised at all if they had quickly flashed up a status screen that included pronouns?
ya know, i really didn't expect to agree with this video, but i listened to your points and it really sounds like your right, this is the natural progression, i mean i don't like the whole girl boss woke agenda thing, but in this space we often mention we don't mind it if it makes sense given the lore and the story from the previous game, she's not given her girl boss status by mystical reasons outside of the elder blood, everything else she gains through her trials and effort of her own, maybe she went through the trial of the grasses and survived simply because of the elder blood deal she was born with and maybe she had a reason to become stronger, maybe there is a story behind that desire to become stronger in the story that makes sense. but all the really skilled ppl leaving the studio and the possible effect of this might make or break the game, because this studio cares more about diversity than they do about quality in their games, so i admit i'm a little biased.
The only thing Ciri gains from the Trial of the Grasses is the ability to imbibe witcher potions, which is so useless for her that the choice to make her a witcher is nonsensical.. She can already use witcher signs and has the potential to learn much more advanced magic. She is a very capable swordswoman and has extensive knowledge of oil, brews and monsters (thanks uncle Vesemir) She has the potential to control space and time She defeated a werewolf and a basilisk in W3 using a steel sword and oil (in the case of the werewolf), which is nothing to sneeze at, many witchers in the lore fell to monsters far less dangerous.
I'm actually pretty excited to play as Ciri, although I would prefer if they let her stand in her own lane instead of turning her into a witcher, it feels a bit like they are making her into female Geralt. Hopefully they will provide solid explanation on the whole mutation thing in the game.
@@MistahJay7 she doesn't deserve to be relegated from Lady of Time an Space/President into a plumber imo. +personally, I do not think female witcher is something even worth exploring as a concept. @@justaquietpeacefuldance I have no idea what you're even rambling on about lol. @@MistahJay7 yeah, a different game. Whole damn appeal of being a witcher is that it's a lowly profession and Geralt just happened to be a cool down to earth guy. I don't see Ciri filling that role of a lone melancholic profesional on the Path very good as it was never about being OP.
You hit the nail on the head with the narrative. Ciri wouldn't possibly choose this life for coin when she could have been a queen at the end of the previous game. Meaning, she is bringing all her power to "right the wrongs" of the world. And with that you have the vehicle to feed politics to the world. You will fight every manner of injustice and find that the real monsters were the people all along.
For me the biggest problem with Ciri at this point is lorebreaking witcher mutation. It's a major plot point in the books that witcher mutations are impossible for females to endure. Why does she with all her powers have to be a mutant and drink elixirs as well?
It’s not impossible. No girl has survived yet, that’s all. Ciri is a child of destiny, she’s got elder blood, and Geralt had prepared her body with necessary ingredients and training to undergo the Trial of the Grasses when she was a child. Or the sorceresses could’ve discovered a safer way to undergo the mutations. We will find out how all this stuff happens in the game, we don’t really know anything yet except that she successfully became a real Witcher. 🤷♂️
it isn't lore breaking, the Witcher games are continuations of the books, therefore they ARE the lore. We have no information about the game AT ALL. It can't break lore we don't even have yet.
@@somegodforsakenprospero according to the book author, they aren't canon. Not that I support him in this opinion, but if I see stuff that doesn't add up well, I am very cautious about it.
Honestly i don't really mind ciri.. What bothers me is that she's a witcher.. How when where and why?? I honestly thought she would take the title of witcher but not an actual witcher instead she would use her elder powers... A pseudo witcher... I thought the method of the trial of grasses got lost??
Even if it wasn’t - the technology of mutation is designed for male body. And given that Ciri is already a skilled fencer and potent sorcerer - why mutate her and what matters most, why would she choose it?
I don't think that what they wrote in that article means necessarily that Ciri still has the Elder Blood powers. Those powers were always something *more* that made her special. She could have lost her Elder Blood powers but still have an affinity for magic. So that, instead of being the most powerful sorceress in the world, she could just be a very capable one, albeit just one among many this time. Gameplay-wise this only means that we will have more skills to choose from, and I'm here for it.
That's pretty much what I got from it too. It reads more like options to maximize game play like you can lean into developing Ciri to be more of a Witcher or more of a sorceress. She's never really been shown to develop any strong control over her Elder Blood powers and it's more of a gamble from jumping randomly through space and time to the outcome varying greatly depending on the choices you made through the game.
If Ciri is actually a witcher (mutations and all) in this sequel, then that means the (good) ending where Geralt gifts her a sword and she becomes a witcher is the canon game ending for 3. If that's so, then everything was already pretty much prepped for this game. Her going through the mutation is explained by how UMA's curse was lifted by undergoing the initial witcher trial. It's likely she did so to relieve herself of her powers as she considered them more of a curse than a gift... and it made her a multiversal target. Everything else is self-explanatory. She already defeated the white frost and she's already had the witcher training. She also idolizes Geralt and the remaining witchers, so it makes sense that she'd go that route if she chose to remain in the world. She didn't want to become Empress and she didn't want to become a mage. I recommend anyone who thinks Ciri beind made the protagonist being something done to cater to certain groups replay TW3. The entire last act of the game is basically setting her up for this. The only real mystery is why she has the "witcher eyes". To which I suspect what I mentioned earlier - she did so to somehow dull her innate abilities... and I'm sure it will play a major role in the upcoming story as to why.
I'm not sure she's a Mary Sue , but she is definitely the "Chosen One" trope from many fantasy/sci fi series. This also why Geralt is such a good protagonist, because he's not the chosen one, just someone that that has a relationship with the Chosen one.
My guess is that her powers have transferred to her son, the child of prophecy. As for the trial of the grasses- I think she might've used the mutation chamber found in Blood and Wine. She'd probably need to go through this to probably search for her son the same way Geralt searched for her in the books and games.
People have already forgotten the power that Ciri has. The Ciri we see in the trailer is not the Ciri we know from Geralt's saga. Where she is indeed a sorceress and her power surpasses any witcher making her impossible to teach. However, in this universe she IS a witcher. The Bauk that holds her up against the wall says something to the contrary though -"You cannot change anything." A hard truth, from a developers perspective. So at the end of W3 with Ciri's power now established CDPR can begin again with a new saga in which Ciri can choose to exist in any universe. Take a look at the titles Witcher 3 and Witcher IV. One is normal numeric and the other is in Roman Numerals. Not the same universe at all.
I got lambasted because I made her empress and thought that made the most sense actually. She could have been the god queen of the continent Instead of being a manly girl boss vagabond with attitude

@@jebediahrage8273 what you said doesn't even make sense to me. You treat it like some kind of evil plan. W1R literally one of the projects that has been in the work plan for years now.
OP and Mary Sue are not the same thing. The difference between the two is very crucially the writing and how their power is handled. There have been excellent stories about OP characters, some of them earned their powers but some didn’t, and the writing is what turns the story of an OP character to a good one, vs bad writing which just gives you a flat, boring Mary Sue. I understand the concerns, I share them, but I think a lot of people are too quick to dismiss. We don’t know anything about the story, no more than we did from the Witcher 3 trailers. CDPR have talented writers, they can still make something good out of it. Whether or not they will remain to be seen, but i intend to at least allow them to *try* before I go ‘full internet’ on them.
I hope they still have those writers. I recall they said they would be doing a "restructuring" of their staff, so there can be a concern that a lot of writers were let go and replaced, and/or whoever is left will have people who *aren't* good writers looking over their shoulders telling them what to write and what not.
This is a very important distinction. By the OP definition Superman is a Mary Sue. It's more about the story, and the story is really important in building a video game where a character has to grow and develop their abilities over time. CDPR have given us some quality stories in the past so I have confidence giving them the benefit of the doubt until they actually give me reason not to.
A lot of their talented writers and other amazing senior veterans staff and talent have left. Then add the fact that CDPR has been following and implementing ESG and DEI initiatives pretty hard which has hammered most all games they have been forced into and it makes you weary for what they made. Also I don't want this to be or feel lik Geralt 2.0 if anything I'd rather see a remaster of Witcher 1 and 2 in Witcher 3's updated combat, style, and mechanics systems with no censoring if thats Geralt 2.0 is what they plan (if not worse).
"OP and Mary Sue are not the same", but Mary Sue often get the rules of the universe they're in rewritten to fit them girlbossing everywhere, for example ignoring the rules and caveats of how witchers are made, and at what ages they do so just to have her show up all the men around her. Seems as though you ignore some Mary Sue qualities to promote the accepted narrative of the past few years.
As someone who has been probably watching all kind videos & baords about this, the majority of people indeed wanna play as Geralt again, even though it has been very clear since day 0 that W3 is the finale saga for Geralt. There are 2 massive reasons about this: 1. Most players only played W3 & that's a big problem. It's simply not enough to quell the curiosity fo Geralt characterization.\ 2. Both the OG books, comics & games are all feature Geralt as "The Witcher". We have zero story (non that I know of) that featured other witchers, even some witchers that has been created by CDPR can only have brief summary story about them in Gwent. This means without a doubt the face of The Witcher has always been Geralt of Rivia. But then again, I am gonna play devil's advocate to some of the things you say in this video: Personally, I do made two choices for the new protag. For a SEQUEL, it's either new character (creator too) or Ciri. This can only make sense because Ciri is indeed the most natural progression & I would argue if any character deserved such "passing the torch" treatment, it is indeed Ciri. Not only because she is practically also MC of the books, she is literally Geralt's surrogate daughter & the Witcheress ending has been canon for a long time from CDPR comics. Even if she is not the main protag of the next game, I am 90% sure she is witcheress. It's also what she wanted since she was a girl. Your definition of Mary Sue is not quite correct imo. By this logic, OP power character like Superman is Gary Sue. Based on oxford dictionary, Mary Sue is a type of idealized female character, typically a young woman, unrealistically lacking in flaws or weaknesses. This means even OP character don't always mean Mary/Gary Sue. For the start, yes, Ciri is very powerful & now also full witcher (apparently so), but she still have flaws & weakness that has been established in her previous characterization. We know nothing about this game story yet. Also, from trailer alone, this doesn't fit Mary Sue story as things simply don't go the way Ciri wanted. Even after she saved the day by slaying the relic monster, the sacrificed girl still being killed by the fearful mob. Every actions still have consequences & hopefully the game actually stand by this, just like previous Witcher games. In the end, people are way too quick to judge simply because of the political climate & game industry trend that clear ruined many female characters. It is understandable to have such strong disagreeable reactions, but we need to judge this thing much more carefully, otherwise we are no better than the woke crowds who ruined many franchises simply because of their ego & ideologies.
Also, so many people keep forgetting that beside W4, we also get Witcher 1 Remake which of course featured Geralt. The possibility for Witcher 2 Remake also there & maybe other new Witcher spin off game with Geralt.
Going through the trial of the grasses for Ciri makes no sense. Not only is the fatality rate unacceptably high, hence why it's essentially forced on young boys who don't have much choice, but none of the abilities are comparable to her natural Elder Blood, so the cost/benefit risk assessment makes no sense for her.
Ciri has prior connections to the School of the Cat through the lore of the game (she took their pendant from the body of Leo Bonhart after killing him), and they are the only school that trained female witchers. It's really not a stretch for her to become a witcher.
You fail to consider that becoming a Witcher might be exactly what Ciri wanted. After all she grew up with the Witchers at Kaer Morhen and thinks of it as home. It could just be exactly what she wants. I think the idea of playing as not just Ciri, but the first ever WILLING Witcher is such a cool concept, not just a child of fate who was chosen into the life.
@simonconte7299 And that changes the fatality rate of the trial of grasses how exactly? Why would a grown woman, entirely of her own free will, subject herself to dangerous toxins and mutagens to gain abilities lesser than what she currently has?
One of the best elements of the Witcher series for me was the whole "Targeted outsider surviving on your ability to play on the hated- but-needed dynamic". If Ciri is as OP as this vid alludes to,,,,, not only will the combat be trival, but so will the interpersonal suspense. Ciri: Anybody in this town gives me a hard time,,,,,,,, and you ALL die🥱
W4 protagonist should be Eskel he's alive in all W3 endings also Geralt & Yen would NEVER let Ciri do the trial or fight monsters without OP elder blood powers. The Ciri "Witcher" ending ONLY is logical bc Ciri had mastered space time pwrs she's WAY more powerful than Geralt & freaking defeated the White Frost 😳 that's the ONLY way you let ur daughter hunt monsters & even then its a pretty illogical ending for Geralt & Yen.
No he should not. Ciri is more interesting char and is a protag with Geralt in books. Eskel being a W4 protag out of nowhere i a huge downgrade and most ppl would hate it
@@sillylittlesheepjax6009 Ludacris the bastardization of lore to force girl boss Ciri down fans throats is WAY worse than a Eskel adventure. Ciri's OP powerful it's a joke to have her fight trash tier monster after defeating the White Frost 🤦♂️ doesn’t make sense in any way
@@SgtHodl ''force girl boss Ciri down fans throats'' BRO you are in wrong IP if u hate Ciri, She is a protag of the books and whole W3 story is abt her too (u even play as her) How dumb u can be. It is clear u are new to witcher lore in general. Silly grifter, Ciri is the most importand person in Geralt life
@@sillylittlesheepjax6009ok but are you dumb. The games are the games and the books are the books. Calling someone who quite possibly has played all Witcher games a grifter because they have a different opinion about the next game (that has barely anything to do with the books anymore) than you is such a dumb and elitist stance
Now was probably a good time for a custom character for sure, if they wanted to play it safe and almost guaranteed to be well received. They could even work in a way to somehow make a female main character work as a Witcher, or a female only class that's similar but different.
I feel like Ciri was Superwoman in Witcher 3. Killed 10 guys in 5 seconds but she went through the trials as a full grown up? Why? And let Geralt go. I want him to have a life with Triss. I wish you made your own Witcher to be honest.
There's some crazy powerful people in canon that never made it into the Witcher 3. That lack makes Ciri seem more outstanding than she is with the poor control of her power.
From a game mechanics standpoint, Ciri didn't have a fraction of the abilities that Geralt had in Witcher 3, and I found playing her much harder than playing Geralt.
Read the Corvo Bianco comic They made Yennefer romance canon Triss can suck it (not really, she's fine. She was really trashy in the books, but she's had a lot of character development)
Going off what they said Geralt is probably retired and living with Yennefer. It’ll be fun to have interactions with him. As long as they don’t kill him off and we can go visit him at different points I’m fine with it. Maybe he’ll be like our Encyclopedia Witcherica and we go see him to find out how to kill rare monsters.
I also think, whether it was stated in the books or games, that adults do not and cannot survive the Trial of the Grasses. They are only done on young boys. Young girls do not survive them. How did Ciri survive it? It is also antithetical to anything Geralt and the rest of the witchers wanted for her; in both the books and games. No one wanted her to be a witcher. (Only in the show, Vesemir did. But even then they said it's too dangerous for her.) It breaks lore and it breaks characterization.
i usually play female too, to me it´s like why not have something nice to look at. being your own customized witcher is more interesting than both ciri or geralt again.
But i also want something nice to Look at 😜🤷🏻♀️ Team geralt here 🤣 no, i know his Story is over… But i prefer a nice masculine guy to Look at over women..
Thinking on what was said in the video I actually think becoming a witcher wasn't a hardcore necessity for Ciri but a point of internal and external validation, she can potentially be framed as a spoiled rich kid that feels guilty and spends her youth being rebellious to her duties by wasting her time on being charity for the plebs, the larp is her way of dealing with her insecurities until she wises up. Atleast that's how they should put it and her growing out of it into actual maturity by the end of the game if they really going to do this.
Not to mention guys that she ended up being sterile going through the Trial of Grasses as far as my knowledge on Witcher game lore is concerned like why would she end going sterile while being an elder blood is more powerful anyway? its like wearing flip flops to run while you have and can wear best sneakers in the world for that job
Ciri is the logical natural progression of the story The Witcher 3 was setting this up especially the dlcs yeah she's the most powerful character in this world that we know of which means the villain or villains are gonna be even more powerful a Mary Sue is a female character that's instantly good at everything they do like Rey for example but Ciri isn't like that if you knew the books you would know this idiot
To have Ciri risk her life to become a witcher where her chance for survival is extremely low when she is one of the most powerful people in the whole witcher world is stupid. Even in the books she is basically too powerful, in my opinion at least.
Playing Ciri for me is a big NO NO! she can be a sidekick or some character that you play with from time to time but never main character because I Never play females ( breaking immersion, the same reason I never played doll's when I was kid just GIJOE or Spider Man figures)
I like your take. I argue that what was presented was not a Mary Sue. There are several cues in the trailer that tell us she is not perfect, she is not demigod-like powerful - and she is not all that in control (of herself). 1. She enters the lair and gets beat about until she guzzles the Witcher potion. She can't fight on equal terms until she does so. That she even needs to enter the lair is telling that she's not the teenaged demigod she once was. 2. She fails, as Geralt did an obscene amount of times, to anticipate the consequences of meddling in peasant mythology. He understood it, but he still did it. No doubt Ciri romanticized Witchers as noble monster slayers. But she's learned nothing from experience. 3. "There are only monsters." My take was that she slaughters the peasants here as the reveal logo rolls, like a monster. Or does she? Ciri is self-made. Ciri didn't get to make the choice to be the Daughter of the Gull or Calanthe's granddaughter, or Emhyr's daughter - but she does choose to be a Witcher. Geralt didn't choose to be a Witcher but did choose to stay out of politics. 4. Ciri is also a monster. Look at that head roll after the decapitation. She enjoys this. And even if she is a Mary Sue, the outcome in the trailer proves she can't solve the fundamental problem with us humans, that we choose to believe in things without evidence.
My hope was a build your own witcher prequel. When the whole witcher craft was in its peak, maybe even conflicts with other schools about the right approach to the witcher-tum.
The trailer clearly shows that she isn't a Mary Sue. She had to scrape through to victory at every turn, relying on every aspect of her powers and skills to defeat the monster. She falls, her blows are blocked, she is locked in the monster's claws against a wall of rock. Sure, her use of elemental magic ultimately turned the tide of the fight, but I have no doubt that her power will be appropriately limited in gameplay, and I have full faith that the developers will give good story reasons why this is so. She is not a Mary Sue - if she was she would've sailed through the fight, slicing effortlessly through the monster's hide, doing somersaults over its head with a sassy smirk on her face as she applied makeup in midair. Then there's the scream she makes when beheading the beast at the end; she's clearly using up the last of her strength.
Also can someonetell me for some reason when i type comment i cannot see it being typed but i can "blindly type" and post it still have to rely on memory and typing skills
I completely agree, Ciri is just a Mary Sue and CDPR will be just an extension of the horrible Netflix Witcher Tv show. Ciri as a witcher is a mockery of Sapkowski's books, indeed if anyway they are ignoring the books why not just create a story about a new witcher from a different school. I am done with this woke CDPR. The good news is that the Rebel Wolves (the real Witcher 3 developers) already teased that they will showcase something on Dawnwalker soon.
I mean, right at the start of the Witcher 3 you get the setup for a typical fantasy coming-of-age story. Ciri is training to be a Witcher but is young, and undisciplined. She only gains some understanding of her magical abilities during an equally short period of sorcerous training from Gwen. Having her choose to follow the path of her adoptive father at the end of the Witcher 3 is a perfectly valid way to end the Witcher 3 and is basically the most stereotypical fantasy arc for her character. She isn't fully human, but she wants to be. She fighting to retain some of her humanity (just like Gerald). Being more powerful than the father (and adoptive mother), yet choosing to honour the lessons taught, is what of course what is going to allow her to overcome the even greater challenges she will face. I mean, this stuff pretty much writes itself. The is Rand > Tam relationship from the wheel of time. Or the Luke > Vadar relationship from Star Wars. Jon Snow > Edward Stark. Conan. Any Terry Goodkind novel. Baldur's Gate 1+2. Its been done a million times. She could have been the most powerful queen of the realm; she could been an all powerful sorcerous. She choose to become a Witcher. If this was any other studio, this generic fantasy would have me worried. But if they have great subplots/side quests, great voice/stopmo performances, and the same level of immersive game mechanics as cyberpunk, then it has the potential to be a pretty good game. But if the devs are bored with the material, and CDProjRed is just trying to make bank, then its probably going to suck.
"Why on Earth would anyone like that be a witcher". Indeed that is a question that occurred to me as well. Why, if she has the Elder Blood and that power is more or less intact? And this is not a gameplay issue. I'm sure they can make the gameplay challenging enough whatever abilities you can acquire. It's s storytelling issue. I like Ciri and I've wanted to play as her ever since finishing TW3, but I did not expect that in a game where we would play as her, that she would be a classic witcher. At first glance, that makes no sense, and I'm rather curious how they'll write around this issue. Regarding the general conversation about a TW4 protagonist, I did not expect a named configurable character like in Mass Effect, but I can see how that might've been desirable.
@@moonknightish Does she really? Hate her powers I mean? Or does she simply hate that other people are after her for them? In any case, it doesn't actually change much IMO. She still has them and they are hers, so it wouldn't make sense not to use them where they're useful, especially after she's learned to control them better in TW3. I'm not saying this is an insurmountable problem, just that it needs some careful writing.
Nothing is inherently wrong about wanting a new witcher but the witcher is an adaptation of a book series that are mainly about two characters Geralt and Ciri. Geralt's story is done so it makes sense to explore Ciri more now. The witcher 3 also pretty obviously set this possibility in one of the endings. Ciri is a very powerful mage in the books but her magic was blocked. Everything in that article is book accurate assuming she gets her magic back. Also her teleportation powers and chaos magic are different things, essentially different powers. Ciri is not a demigod because she has powerful magic. One interesting thing about witcher lore is that children of mages are usually very powerful mages but rare because most mages can't have kids. Ciri's mother had magical power but so did Geralt's. He could also have been a very powerful mage but he only ever learns basic magical signs like other witchers. You're complaining for the sake of complaining.
God, this whole setup comes across like someone's first fanfiction where they crap all over the lore and give even more powers to an already op character without thinking of the narrative consequences.
Honestly, my best guess is they'll shoot for another grindy RPG (Similar to Ubisoft with the AC franchise) so she's not ridiculously OP off the start. Which doesn't make much sense considering she should have access to her abilities from the beginning, but still. And because the enemies will most likely level with her, somehow everybody from the thugs to the vampires will all be even stevens with her.
Playing as a young pupil of Geralt would have been more interesting. Male/female version as the player wants. Geralt could appear in scenes similarly how Vesemir appeared in the previous stories.
You're wrong about her just killing the monster to right wrongs. The clip clearly implied that she was paid for the contract by the father of the girl, and just like in the Witcher 3, it also implied that her choice to accept the contract and follow through had ripple effects just like Geralt's actions did. You can't save everyone.. I'm sure that's a lesson Ciri will have to learn as well in this story. Ciri has always been a very important part to the Witcher's story in the books, games, and in the TV show. They literally foreshadowed her being the next main character in the end of the Witcher 3. Argue about the trials of grass all you want but I'm sure the story will break that down for you when the game releases.
I hope people realise that just being powerful doesn't make you a mary sue...Mary sue's are characters that breaks the established lore of the world without any reason for it. The only thing you can accuse ciri of is being a more powerful geralt because of her elder blood. Because of gestalt's mom his magic is more powerful than other witchers which for ciri its her elder's blood. Also Geralt was experimented om futher, that's why he has the white hair. This means the method of making witchers and be altered
Other than the one scene of the good ending at the end of Witcher 3, was there ever any evidence that showed that ciri had a strong desire to be a Witcher as a profession? She seemed more interested in traversing worlds and being with geralt and yen? With the wild hunt no longer after her, I can only logically see her traveling again, returning to the Witcher world to visit friends and family and maybe joining geralt on the odd Witcher contract that he does when he isn’t at his vineyard.
Larian from BG3 said the other day if the devs aren't having fun that we won't tho. Also, many good seniors left which is the problem. Switch to Unreal Engine also. And how it went with the veil guard... Also as a guy playing a woman character.Remember how Geralt had those juicy moments with girls. i can't play as a woman and have nude scenes. u could argue that's the lest of problems and yes u can skip.] But my moral compass says, don't pre order and w8.
I don't mind female leads, even if they aren't my jam, I don't mind Ciri being the protagonist, but this isn't the "logical" choice as the writers haven't earned the right to make her a Witcher nor explained how her Elder Blood has weakened or is now no longer a mover and shaker in the Witcher world. CDPR could have made an entire game explaining the who, what, where, when, and why's a new school has arisen, what Sorcerers and involved and why they want to create female Witchers, and more importantly why Ciri wants this, but none of this is being respected and instead being force feed to us with the "promise" that it will be explained and will respect the past lore and established world. Hogwash, I have no reason to trust CDPR let alone take their words with anything but a grain of salt; especially after the Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco.
This is literally a cinematic trailer. Just like the one for Witcher 3 in the beginning. We have no idea where the story will begin or how it will play out. Y’all just like to complain.
They never let her bend space and time when you played her in Witcher 3. It was just a short range teleport. So off the bat they're not likely to let her dimension hop in Witcher 4 casually. The fact she has sorcery is powerful, but only insofar as the lore. The games never truly showed how powerful sources can get other than alluding to it rather than letting Ciri under player control do it. I'd even go so far as to say it's doubtful we'll be as powerful as the Ofieri mage in Hearts of Stone. Potential via lore doesn't translate into gameplay 1:1. As for the bland ass character creator in Mass Effect 1 and Cyberpunk 2077 I felt they had the depth of a puddle for their first games. It's why I want a character with history. Which is why I lean toward Eskel or Lambert as options. But they decided on Ciri.
maybe the elder blood was somehow "damaged" reducing ...and maybe even twisting her powers in some form. Could make for some interesting in game abilities.
I think she has lost her powers, or they are severely weakened, due to do facing the White Frost. Her whole destiny was to face the White Frost. So i could easily see that it took everything she had to stop the White Frost, and she had just enough to get back to our world. Ciri has wanted to be a witcher since she was young, and only stopped working towards all that when they had to leave Kaer Morhen. So when she gets back she realizes that she isn't anywhere near as powerful as she use to be, and this is when she decides to take the Trials. What residual strength was left in her blood is what allowed her to survive the Trial of the Grasses, and is the reason why she became a witcher where no woman has before. My thinking is they did this, so that she does NOT become superwoman, or a Mary Sue. Otherwise if you leave her fully powered, she would have no need for the Mutagens, because she could end most monsters in the blink of an eye. I've also had a thought that maybe she wasn't weakened by the White Frost, but somehow got depowered by the main Antagonist, and her Path is now to get her powers back. But then that leads yet again into Witcher 5, where she is OP again. Ciri has hated her powers, because of the burden they are, and the fact that everyone wants to use her and her powers for their gain. Hell losing them would be more of a dream come true for her, than a curse.
Geralt was established, and the choices you make with him in Witcher 3 are choices that Geralt would/could make. Even he had a code of honor. He doesn't kill intelligent monsters unless they leave him no choice. He does work off of right and wrong. With Ciri in this new game, We will be making those choices for Ciri along The Path. Does do it all for the coin? For the rush? Because its the right thing to do? Or does she turn into some vengeful witcher like the Witcher from the School of the Cat you face in Witcher 3. It will be YOUR choice in the game.
they said that the new game would have more build variety than the 3rd, so these abilities will probably just be the diffrent builds you are going to be able to play around with
yup I expected that logically it would be a new Witcher from another school. But seeing the way CDPR are taking this, it looks like Witcher fan fiction than an addition/continuation of the story.
Another "explanation" that doesn't even make sense, Ciri has elder blood and the power to travel through different planes and even through time. She said that there been some humans with tech int them, so she obviously have been in the furure or at least on some planet where tech is that advanced. I've played witcher games because of the Geralt, not Ciri. She didn't even be in first two "parts", just mentioned,. I don't have any reason to buy this new game just for the "fact" that I'll be playing as woman. There are many other games that allow this possibility and some are even better.
Although i agree with you about the girl boss trend..(im super over it) I do not quite see it yet with ciri though there is unfortunatly a very high likley hood of it happening..😒 I am of a wait and see mind set, im neither hyped or dissapointed we know to little. As for why Ciri would want to be a witcher over a sorc i always thought that was her preference because the way i alway interprited her character was that she always wanted to be like her father figure Geralt and follow in his footsteps, she always came across as not careing for power and magic like every other scorceress.. i dunno im probably huffing the copeum too hard 😂
Developers told us that we will see her becoming a witcher during the game. So this trailer is something that happens a bit into the game already. My guess is that her elder blood magic is a bit diminished after the events of Witcher 3 (or some event we will get as intro) and it is something she may regains in this new trilogy, at least partial or full (since it is probably still part of her plot there) They kinda want to tell the story of a witcher from the beginning but facilitating Ciri with already a extended background story. I don't think she will be that powerful from the start, that would just not work well for story telling and also would not work for gameplay well.
It is probably good to get this critique out already but CDProject Red has still enough good will from my side that I think their writers thought of this already. (Unlike Bioware I have no hope for their games)
I don't mind Ciri acting as a Witcher and overcoming her lack of mutations with her far stronger space-time powers (along with some basic sorcerer spells. i.e. she hasn't devoted the decades it would take to become a powerful spell caster like Yen) BUT giving her Witcher mutations and who knows how many spells on top of her OP powers... *sigh* Not saying it's a pass yet, but Witcher 4 will definitely not be a pre-order.
CDPR KNOWS deep down, along with the fans that it's not about any lore breaking or anything like that... That can be "explained" at least well enough that most gamers will swallow that pill. The reason why Ciri will not work as a Witcher is that you cannot tell a story about masculinity, being isolated, shunned by society and stoicism with a pretty looking female as a lead in this setting. Those are overarching topics of the books AND games and you as a fan think that's all by accident? That they just forgot to mention the fact that women can become witchers too? That it just slipped the author's mind throughout all the books and hundereds of hours of play and now you can exploit that mistake? It's so obviously fake that CDPR even tries to convince us, that because they perhaps are fighting some norms, standards. When in reality they just want an easy brand recognition and a protag with c()()ch and white hair on the cover. And who's sx-ist now?
Why is Geralt's "sTorY d0Ne" anyway? There were no quests/storylines about Geralt's origins in all 3 witcher game. His mother was a sorceress, writers could make a whole game/DLC based on that alone. Yet there are a lot of people who mindlessly repeat "his story is done". If anything it's Ciri's story done with the player deciding her fate in W3's main quest.
Im hoping her elder blood powers have a negative effect. Imagine it being like blood magic in origins. If you overuse it, then it drains your health fast. As for her character im hoping the writers keep her impatient and head strong. These flaws are important in the overpowered characters that can never get control over their abilities. Much like Anakin skywalker in star wars.
I think the father in that trailer gave her the coin. When the one man says "who's coin did you take?" The father lowered his head
Yeah, that's what I got too. And it adds new meaning to his "Forgive me, daughter, 'twas my only choice"
Yes, I think as well. Also, his "we failed" look at Ciri when his daughter died.
I'm sure we will find out.
Plot contrivance most likely.
I seem to remember Ciri being the empress of nilfgaard at the end of W3.

At least, in W3, she's inexperienced, so Geralt has some wisdom to offer and things to teach her. Mary Sue Ciri is older, and will likely be written as to have no flaws at all, not even character flaws like inexperience.

There's a reason they went for Geralt instead of character creation, no?
@@moonknightishMainly because of Geralt's great personality. Something Ciri doesn't have.
@@subzer0pl Ciri has a different personality than Geralt. Which will allow to tackle on situations with a different POV.
@@moonknightish we dont want trashy lezbo woke personality characters
Yea, if Geralt's story is done... then all the surrounding characters should be done as well. I have no idea why they couldn't just set the new installment-- like 100 years in the future. Maybe something like a new (psuedo) Conjunction of Spheres brought more monsters and now you have to start a new Witcher order as a customizable character. There could even be some kind of McGuffin that allows female Witchers or something if you want to play as one. I have no interest this hacked-together, convoluted, plot to continue as Ciri.
"Ciri deserved her own story". Uhm, "Deserves got nothing to do with it" - Unforgiven.

Kinda flies in the face of Geralt's comment "this world doesn't need a hero. It needs a professional."
100% with you my man
This was exactly my gripe. Before the trailer there were 3 reasons why I wanted a new male witcher protagonist and not Ciri
1. Ciri was EXTREMELY OP
2. Her story like Geralt felt like it was concluded and I liked the Empress ending more because it was bittersweet( and it was HER actual choice if you let her process her father and the sorceresses without interfering)
3. I wanted to play as a WITCHER because that is implied by the Witcher series
CDPR has seemingly solved 2 of these issues in the most contrived way possible.
Why does he need to be male though?
@@sneslive1556 A conjunction of the spheres happened at the end of the Witcher 3. You had giants, those desert bugs, fork tails, etc. all pouring out. I don't think it would be that much of a stretch to say it affected more than just skellige.

For me, Ciri's story was kind of over too in W3, but yea they made my game choices obsolete since one specific ending is now canon.
Ciri has elder blood...nobody strips away elder blood
I honestly think this game could be in a multiverse where the wild hunt never happened.
Then CDPR came... And retconned everything.
@@65firered Or maybe they consulted Andrzej Sapkowski to find how to move forward with the story?
@@ed61730 Unless he's decided to sabatoge CDPR... which I doubt. No, I don't believe that anymore than I believe these retcons are necessary.
@@65firered How would you know though? There are logical story endings form w3 where Ciri would have lost here powers or become weaker.
Im with you on this, CDPR has a lot of explaining to do, and it better be good
I loved Ciri, in W3, and wanted to see more of her in other games, but she would never go down this route, neither would any assist her in it from W3
It feels like some devs just pushed this through, because of *reasons*
@@damned0wl Ciri also wanted children & the Wild Hunt is gone.
Would've been the better retcon, I want to play your head canon lol
@raketensven3127 thank you XD
Yes, but minus the female "witchers". Witcher is a male term. It's the male counterpart to witch. To have a female Witcher is an oxymoron. The Witcher is about young boys forced into a life they did not want.
Ciri going through mutations is lore breaking as is
I think none of these things make a character a Mary Sue by themselves. The main part of being a Mary Sue is having no weakness or character flaws and it's too early to say anything about that, besides she can be easily killed with a sword. I trust in CDPR and their writing which has been stellar so far.
Maybe her teleportation abilities will be locked behind some kind of rage mode similar to Kratos's Spartan Rage
Just like a Witcher...

but all the really skilled ppl leaving the studio and the possible effect of this might make or break the game, because this studio cares more about diversity than they do about quality in their games, so i admit i'm a little biased of what this game is going to be like.
How could she loose her powers if they are given from her having elder blood, did she get a blood transfusion or something?
that would be some retcon
I think the problem goes further than some basic 'don't want to play as woman' or even 'girlboss.'
It has been well established that the studio has lost a lot of talent, it was also well reported that cyberpunk was rushed out earlier than it should have (albeit well after its estimated release date) because the studio was running out of money.

Nilfgard ending makes more sense than the witcher ending
The only thing Ciri gains from the Trial of the Grasses is the ability to imbibe witcher potions, which is so useless for her that the choice to make her a witcher is nonsensical..
She can already use witcher signs and has the potential to learn much more advanced magic.
She is a very capable swordswoman and has extensive knowledge of oil, brews and monsters (thanks uncle Vesemir)
She has the potential to control space and time
She defeated a werewolf and a basilisk in W3 using a steel sword and oil (in the case of the werewolf), which is nothing to sneeze at, many witchers in the lore fell to monsters far less dangerous.
The last point is just a gameplay oddity. In the books many monsters are killed with steel swords. Silver swords are used more rarely
@@moonknightish I stand corrected :)
I'm actually pretty excited to play as Ciri, although I would prefer if they let her stand in her own lane instead of turning her into a witcher, it feels a bit like they are making her into female Geralt. Hopefully they will provide solid explanation on the whole mutation thing in the game.

It’d be better if Ciri became Empress and you play that instead of her becoming a Witcher.
@Pårchmēntôs I'll only be happy if they make it work from the narrative standpoint. But I am a bit sceptical about it so far.
we are getting a girl power trip trash storyline with feminist lezbo woke personality, enjoy it boys
it isn't lore breaking, the Witcher games are continuations of the books, therefore they ARE the lore.
If you don't know why it's Geralt vs Ciri then you don't understand what's going on.
Shorty was godpowered in 3, if anything shes been nerfed
She could have been the god queen of the continent

I wanted a prequel being vesemir being the protag.
We would get to see the height of the witchers, which to me would be immensely more interesting.
It would be boring since you know what's going to happen. Prequels always suck.
There are 2 massive reasons about this:
1. Most players only played W3 & that's a big problem. It's simply not enough to quell the curiosity fo Geralt characterization.\
But then again, I am gonna play devil's advocate to some of the things you say in this video:
Personally, I do made two choices for the new protag.
@simonconte7299 thank you! Some people can't think for themselves.
Says who that it's uncomparable?
One of the best elements of the Witcher series for me was the whole "Targeted outsider surviving on your ability to play on the hated- but-needed dynamic". If Ciri is as OP as this vid alludes to,,,,, not only will the combat be trival, but so will the interpersonal suspense.

Eskel being a W4 protag out of nowhere i a huge downgrade and most ppl would hate it
Yeah Geralt calling her a Witcher at the W3 ending was more of an honorary title rather than him literally wanting her to go through the trials
She really didn't feel as powerful in Witcher 3 as in canon, though...
Read the Corvo Bianco comic
They made Yennefer romance canon
Triss can suck it (not really, she's fine.
But even then they said it's too dangerous for her.)
It breaks lore and it breaks characterization.
My guess is Ciri lost her space time magic after defeating the white frost...
i usually play female too, to me it´s like why not have something nice to look at.
being your own customized witcher is more interesting than both ciri or geralt again.
But i also want something nice to Look at 😜🤷🏻♀️ Team geralt here 🤣 no, i know his Story is over… But i prefer a nice masculine guy to Look at over women..

Also, does her face look strange?
Botox.
People say she just aged, but apparently bone structure grows with age past 21 as well. Her facial structure got masculinized.
I realy realy wanted to create my own witcher this time around >.
Not to mention, I have no problem with an all powerful female character, if she has earned it, which she clearly has
I wanted to play a custom character, but Ciri will do!
Tell me you don't know the lore without telling me you don't know the lore
Fantastic video. I absolutly have the same opinion. Good health to You, Sir.
Ciri hates the Elder Blood. And she hates being forced to be something else by forces outside of her own.
Say it with me, "MaaaaRaaaaae Suuuuuue!"
Also as a guy playing a woman character.Remember how Geralt had those juicy moments with girls.
i can't play as a woman and have nude scenes.
u could argue that's the lest of problems and yes u can skip.]
But my moral compass says, don't pre order and w8.
No, she is captain Marvel. And boy, that went down well.
As if the previous trilogy wasn't a fan fiction already
Another "explanation" that doesn't even make sense, Ciri has elder blood and the power to travel through different planes and even through time. She said that there been some humans with tech int them, so she obviously have been in the furure or at least on some planet where tech is that advanced. I've played witcher games because of the Geralt, not Ciri. She didn't even be in first two "parts", just mentioned,. I don't have any reason to buy this new game just for the "fact" that I'll be playing as woman. There are many other games that allow this possibility and some are even better.
Although i agree with you about the girl boss trend..(im super over it)
I do not quite see it yet with ciri though there is unfortunatly a very high likley hood of it happening..😒 I am of a wait and see mind set, im neither hyped or dissapointed we know to little.
My guess is that her elder blood magic is a bit diminished after the events of Witcher 3 (or some event we will get as intro) and it is something she may regains in this new trilogy, at least partial or full (since it is probably still part of her plot there)
They kinda want to tell the story of a witcher from the beginning but facilitating Ciri with already a extended background story.
*sigh*
Not saying it's a pass yet, but Witcher 4 will definitely not be a pre-order.
